Kozhikode is a coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala. It was a significant spice trade centre and is close to Kappad Beach, where Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed in 1498. It has always been a centre of trade and commerce activities. To acknowledge the economic and social act of the city it is very essential to have anmInternational convention centre. It is the start of a new era of prosperity and economic development for the region. The investment signifies a new confidence in the city as a future economic powerhouse in Kerala. The International convention centre will be the spark to ignite further development and planning processes with the emphasis on investment, job creation, economic development, infrastructural improvements and tourism in Calicut. The Parametric building style is an innovative approach in Calicut. This makes the building more noticeable among all the other commercial buildings and influences the visual quality of the region. The unique style turn curious heads and create a whole new level of experience.

The design is incoparated with the concept “Parametricism”. Creating a new face of architecture in the Calicut city by modern and postmodern architecture style. The design has been developed by considering the flexibile design ideas, this design can be overlaid in future - changing the use pattern, spatial subdivision, engineering system’s etc.

PORTABLE SHELTER FOR MIGRANT LABOURS

CONSTRUCTION STEPS

Corrugated roofing sheet is placed over the bamboo frame with 15cm overlap and fitted tightly with screws

Migrant workers who make shelters for us, live in unhygenic structures with poor living standards. They live in camps of aluminium sheets stacked like animals without any basic facilities and are prone to all deadly diseases

PROBLEM INTRODUCTION To Design a portable shelter for migrant workers with low cost materials and fully sustainable design.(group work)

DESIGN A unit of 3.8m X 3.8m size with a Bio-Toilet and Kitchen which can accomodate 7 people and which can be multiplied with other units and connects to a larger working community .It can be easily assembled and easily dismantled . And fully constructed by ourself.

PRINCIPLE Structure is built with sustainable green materials like bamboo, bamboo ply, tetrapack roofing sheets
