Even though the teenage years of my life have already passed I have to admit that I still find new and interesting content on Rookie. The whole magazine is so fascinating for me because I didn’t have anything like that as a teen and I kinda try to make up for the want of this experience by reading it every now and then. An article in the June2015 issue of Ziggy magazine about Tavi Gevinson reminded me that although I check the magazine’s website I forgot about Style Rookie, where it all began. So I opened a new page in my browser, typed thestylerookie.com and read a post randomly from 2009: “blogs vs. magazines”. Perfect! But before reading the post, to be honest, I started to feel sorry for myself not knowing about stylerookie back in 2009. This feeling hit me probably because I was like ‘if I’d read this blog back in 2009 maybe some (even just small) things would of turned out differently. Or not. Who knows. Damn.’ Then I started to feel sorry for myself not growing up somewhere where magazines like Dazed,

AnOther, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar or i-D were (and still are) so easily available. And I started to feel sorry for myself missing such a variety of sources of inspiration. But instead of singing “if only I could turn back time” in my head I though of this thing called The Internet and murmured a prayer cuz still, without it I wouldn’t know that these magazines even exist.

Then this guy came to my mind I wrote an article about: James Hyman. Now he can just go fuck himself. The guy owns the

biggest magazine collection in the world and founded The Hyman Archive which will help him to get his printed nirvana digitized and make accessible for the whole world. Insane. He must be a brilliant man! When

I found out about James, I heard this voice in my head saying: ‘yeah, and people ask me why the hell do I insist carrying all my

magazines with myself every time I move from one apartment to another, why didn’t I just threw them out already?!’ W-hell, just like James said, not everything can be found on the web, and

these magazines have a lot to offer. Think about the smell, the touch, the cover, the design, the layout and also the great photographers, designers, artist and writers who appear on those pages. This is the good old mag-feeling that makes me a fanatic. Some of my magazines are still at my parents’ place in my room. I keep them in a cupboard. I own just enough of them to fill that space. Most of the mags are big, chunky ones, like Elle Germany, Vogue Australia or Vogue UK I bought during my travels years ago. Every now and then, when I’m at my parents’ place I walk upstairs to my room open the cupboard to read them. They bring back the memories of those
