“I have always been drawn to anything that reflects light. I’ve always found it hard to drag my eyes away from these crystals which appear to sparkle with their own light, cleverly capturing the weakest ray: breaking it down giving it colour, concentrating it, multiplying it and then casting it back to harmoniously connect with the surrounding space, often reaching distances which seem infinite. Man’s attraction to this fascinating sparkle is older than time immemorial. Our perception that light is life is natural and instinctive. The hope and projection of immortality that it conjures up in us is transcendental.” S. Curto

Draw attention to a city (Kiev) and a country (Ukraine) who are experiencing a difficult period. But also on himself and his own vision of art. Alexey Kondakov, 31 year old Donetsk Ukrainian designer is the author of the project 2 Reality, which, thanks to the web megaphone, is becoming known all over the planet. The idea of bringing characters of famous works in the most 'normal' and anonymous places of Kiev, came to him as he looked at a picture representing the friends drinking wine and celebrating; so he started to create these artistic contrasts using Caravaggio, Hayez images, Bourguerau, Regnier and others, offering a different view of the city.

“Art has the power to make one see things in a new light. It helps us see the beauty in things that some may overlook, or take for granted. As an artist, inspiration comes to me in many forms. I see so much beauty in old weathered things. A new life that hides behind an old, waiting to be discovered. Layers of chipped paint, rusted metals and old buildings- they excite me and spark new ideas within me. I begin my work without any preconceived ideas at all what the finished work is going to look like. I like the idea of each painting being a journey, ending at a beautiful destination. My paintings are made with lots of color and textures, bringing out the old with the new. I am a self taught full-time artist with a desire to create, capture and preserve a true beauty of art in each painting - in hopes to create a happy escape for the viewer”. I. Ashley

“When looking at Swiss painter Conrad Jon Godly’s mountainous paintings, it takes a moment to truly appreciate the incredible skill behind what seems to be such an effortless application of paint. Up close the landscapes appear to be a thick, almost random mix of blue, white and black, the result oils mixed with turpentine to create a thick impasto that Godly often leaves dripping from the canvas. Take a few steps back (or just squint your eyes a bit) and miraculously you might as well be looking at a photograph of the Swiss Alps. It’s a visual trick that the artist has perfected in both small and large-scale paintings over the last few years”.

“I tend to be doing more abstract subjects and pursuing painting on non-traditional surfaces such as Corian, Plexiglass, stainless steel and perforated metal, and then layering the different materials into one composition. The works on Plexiglass and Corian exploit the aspects of transparency, translucency and opacity and their interplay. The cast shadows between various layers then became an integral part of the image itself, changing with the light and giving another dimension to the work. I also find interesting the way colors are transfused behind translucent layers, and I would like to further explore this media in creating original works”. C. Veenemanmar

“She takes, the representation of beauty from the height of its pedestal from the depth of its chapel and wrings copiously its neck, remodels it, fashioning it according to her laws and when she has finished with it, it is Beauty itself that she has reinvented. She adds a muzzle, a thickness, a prominent jaw, a rodent’s head, enormous ears, I mean that she adds nuances, confers a new and original grace, an enchantment, a magic”. Denys-Louis Colaux

"It is not me, who went after the sculpture, that it came to me was obvious. It was instant” She said. Her work is very mature and powerful and exude with astonishing synthesis of forms. Artist’s visual language represents the androgynous human being in all the ambiguity of its power and fragility. Looking at Miramontes bronze figures we are getting enchanted by powerful calmness and silent emotion captured inside every sculpted motion.

These beautiful prints are salesman's samples of kimono cloth designs. Salespeople would bring these pieces to kimono makers in order to showcase the different patterns available. With its origins as the Chinese garment hanfu, the style of the Japanese kimono evolved over time to reflect cultural changes through the nation’s history. The kimono is considered a form of high art in the Japanese tradition. The artisans who weave the cloth, design and decorate the fabric, and assemble the final garment are all of the highest caliber. Traditional kimono cloth patterns themselves hold all kinds of significance. Colors, motifs, and other symbolic images come together on each kimono to tell the story of its wearer. References to important Japanese myths weave the essence of the tale into the garment while also conveying the intellect of its wearer.

Femininity is captured in most of his works and the female ďŹ gures are portrayed in their most intimate moments and often inaccessible referring to those moments of silence and reection are essential to learn about the inner life. What most fascinates the work of Steve Hanks is to study the light that emerges in all its lovely painting.

Immense PVC skins, stretched or deated; concave or convex mirrors whose reections attract and swallow the viewer; recesses carved in stone and pigmented so as to disappear: these voids and protrusions summon up deep-felt metaphysical polarities of presence and absence, concealment and revelation. Forms turn themselves inside out, womb-like, and materials are not painted but i mpregnated with colour, as if to negate the idea of an outer surface, inviting the viewer to the inner reaches of the imagination.

I have experimented to discover new glazes which combine crystallization with iridescence. I have researched crystal glaze techniques in the United States, Europe, Japan and China. In the long history of crystal glazes, I could ďŹ nd no iridescent crystal glaze. This fueled my ten-year long passion and intent to create an iridescent crystal glaze which has never been made anywhere, at anytime in history. I started testing, using data from my apprentice years. To make a new glaze is my lifelong passion.
