REDISIGNING A PUBLIC SQUARE IN ATHENS LECTURERS: M.MPAMPALOU, P.PAGONIS STUDENTS: A.AXAOPOULOU, E.PERTIGKIOZOGLOU, I.POLYDORA
Dis – covering the City The square (Klafthmonos Square) is located in the center of Athens, exactly at the point where the neoclassical part of the city meets the medieval with the narrow and arcades. Also under the square there is the trace of the fortress wall of the ancient city of Athens. Since the square is consists dipoles (medievalneoclassical, ancient-new, Carte- sianlabyrinthine) two different urban spaces are created: one formal square, which corresponds to the neoclassical part of the city and a park with softer ground and trees , which refers to the lowest medieval part. The two spaces meet and overlap each other, while revealing the trace of the ancient wall.

THE NEW MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF ATHENS PROFESSORS: T.PAPAIOANNOU, D.PAPALEXOPOULOS STUDENTS: A.AXAOPOULOU, E.PERTIGKIOZOGLOU, I.POLYDORA
Exhibition space – permanent exhibits
The museum detaches from the ground and is enclosed in a regular slid, the cube. Also, is dissociated from the trace of the ancient wall that is revealed through the view- as an exhibit and element of the outdoor space. All the functions of the museum that concerns only the museum, are contained in that piece of space, which sails in the urban carpet, calling you to get into it and discover it. The functions that are autotomized, are situated underground the library and the amphitheater.

Urban frames
strategies of shaping urban fronts in Faliro
The front is designed as a boundary, an Inhabited Wall. A narrow longitudinal dwelling block is placed parallel to the MASTER PLAN side facing the park. Open spaces are integrated in the 1: 2000 apartment building, in the form of void spaces that ‘erode’ the mass, framing the view towards the park and the city. The occupied spaces are an assemblage of different types of housing modules, encouraging diversity and flexibility. The space left in-between the park and the housing block act as an interaction zone. The boundary is lifted from the ground to create space for commercial uses, as well as to import urban flows from the neighborhood to the park and vice versa. The existing transversal streets ending in the park’s entrance remain, while the slope angle of Piano’s intervention is extended to form three ‘basins’.

URBAN GRID Wooden urban signal- PanHellenic student architectural competition Presented in Benaki Museum from Hellenic institute of architecture STUDENTS: I.POLYDORA, M.PAPADIMITRAKI
The idea of that urban signal came through the system of the 3d grid that is defined in a square of 6m2 The aim of that wooden construction is to inform people for the events of the city. The general information is transmitted through the big screen with the wooden pixels that form the slogan of the advertisement. The particular information is transmitted through the two electronic screens, through the sound and through reading the brochures. That wooden construction can be put together easily, is economical and has energy autonomy through the photovoltaic panels that has.
