During the pandemic, the business saw an increase in customer footfall. As per the reviews given by the customers, they realized the benefits of aromatherapy and fragrances in uplifting mood, relieving stress, and ensuring a pleasant and relaxing personal environment which resulted in increased business during the pandemic. “EKAM is largely a D2C company, so many of our customers can shop directly from our website and online channels like Amazon, LBB, Pepperfry, Urban Ladder, etc., and so we were able to grow faster like many other companies during this period, as more customers preferred shopping online from their homes during the pandemic.
Elaborating on the precautions and hygiene Aarti explained that the respective department had been extremely careful in adhering to all COVID-19 pandemic hygiene protocols both in the factories and in the warehouse at the time of packaging and shipment so that everyone remains safe and protected.

Aarti Koya, the CEO of the brand EKAM, was born in GOA and completed her schooling and Master's degree in Financial Services. Her father is a private contractor, and her mother, a housewife worked hard to give her a good education and ingrained a very strong work ethic in their children that helped Aarti and her brother to move ahead in their careers.
Aarti started her career in finance, in derivatives segment in the National Stock Exchange, but soon realized that she preferred working directly with companies. After switching over to private equity, she worked with a number of companies in the consumer sector by helping them in develop their growth strategy, building team management and strengthening their financials. So, when the opportunity presented itself to lead EKAM in Sep 2019, she grabbed it as she could now use all her knowledge and experience to build a world-class brand herself.
Passionate about creating world-class brands that will be remembered and could be used by several generations of Indian families, Aarti believes in the capability of Indian companies that are building themselves to deliver world-class products at affordable prices for the Indian market and the world.

A mother of 2 kids and a wife of a loving and supportive husband, she is very detail-oriented and believes the same as a crucial attribute to be fit to perform in any job but more so for a start-up when one could come across unexpected challenges along the way. Aarti counts her confidence and works hard as her biggest strength and can be very impatient and demanding at certain times, which, she reckons, helps in getting things done fast but understands that the same could be tough on her team and family.
In her free time, Aarti likes to read and travel, which helps her open her mind to new experiences and learning, boosting selfdevelopment, and value-addition. At work, developing new products that will make customers happy excites her the most.
Before becoming the CEO of EKAM, she worked in private equity and has invested in several consumer brands globally, including a 5-year stint in Shanghai, where she realized that the future of consumer brands will depend on digital media and E-commerce. Aarti talked more about herself and EKAM in a one-to-one session.
What is a working day in your life like?
Aarti: As CEO of a consumer brand, my time and energy is consumed and focused on creating the best quality products and delivering the best consumer experience from the time they come to our website or enter our physical stores to purchase it when they use the product. I have a strong and experienced team of 7 managers with whom I work daily to strengthen the brand in every aspect. diverse culture and friendly environment have played a huge part in building a global perspective in me.
You have been a job personnel for 15 years. And now you are enjoying entrepreneurship. How your journey has been as an entrepreneur so far?
Aarti: As an entrepreneur, my mind is never at rest. I am constantly thinking of what will be the next step for the brand, what new products to launch, how to empower our employees, how to deliver the best experience for customers, etc., It is honestly all-consuming, but at the same time the joy of creating products, of reading fabulous customer reviews, seeing our employees grow, makes me push myself more and more.
What challenges did you come across while establishing the company as the first CEO of the brand EKAM? How did you overcome them?
Aarti: As a young brand, the biggest challenge is to have sufficient resources to support the brand and the team. We also have to navigate the ever-changing digital landscape as almost every brand spends money on digital marketing.
What’s your idea of fun and enjoyment?
Aarti: Reading, watching movies, and playing with my kids.
Who is that one person who has been the pillar of strength and your biggest support?
Aarti: My family and my partner have been my pillar of strength and support. It truly takes a lot of courage to raise kids and to work.
Being a native, you have seen and experienced the rich heritage and culture of Goa. How does your background, the place you were brought up influence your personality?
Aarti: Goa is a wonderful place to live in. I have spent my entire childhood meeting people belonging to different cultures. I think Goa’s

Aarti: There is really no substitute for hard work. It is not enough that you are the smartest person in the room, in fact, you can hire many smart people for you, but what will determine your success is your discipline in seeing your projects through.
