facility overview Constructed in 1991, the Atkins Tennis Center continues to be recognized as one of the premier tennis facilities in the country on a university campus. The initial project was made possible by a generous contribution from Clint and Susie Atkins and was developed to provide a state of the art training facility for the University of Illinois varsity tennis teams. In addition, the facility was to be made available to the public and allow members of the community the opportunity to learn and play tennis. Once completed, the Atkins Tennis Center featured six indoor courts, eight lighted outdoor courts, public locker and restroom facilities, and a Pro Shop offering tennis equipment and apparel. In 1992, the USTA recognized Atkins as the country’s “Most Outstanding Tennis Facility.” In April 2009, the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics unveiled the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex which is part of the Atkins Tennis Center. This magnificent project was made possible by Shahid and Ann Khan who are great supporters of Illinois Tennis and the Urbana - Champaign community. The expansion increased Atkins’ number of outdoor courts to twenty, including six championship courts that feature individual scoreboards and spectator seating. In addition to the courts, the project provided a new entrance and Pro Shop area as well as additional restrooms on the east side of the existing tennis center. The Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex is the foremost outdoor facility in the Big Ten Conference and offers worldclass amenities to the public. T h e Cenpetiwomi t s
primary function of the Atkins Tennis ter is to serve as the practice and comtion home for the Illinois Fighting Illini en’s and men’s tennis teams. Since construction, the women’s team has achieved a number of milestones including a program high ranking of 22 in 2004 and a win over top-ranked Duke in 2003. In 2009, Illinois’ women’s team hosted its first NCAA Regional and came within one point of advancing to the Sweet 16. Illinois’ men’s team is a fixture at the top of college tennis. The 2003 team captured the NCAA Team, Singles, and Doubles Titles in what has been called “The Perfect Season.” In 2007 the Illini came within one win of their second NCAA Team Championship. In 2010, the Fighting Illini Men took home the Big Ten Tournament Title. Since its opening, numerous collegiate tennis champions have trained and competed at Atkins.

permanent court time Permanent indoor court time (PCT) allows a group of players to reserve an in door court on the same day and time over an 18 week period for a one and a half hour block. Two 18 week sessions correspond with the University of Illinois’ fall and spring semesters. Exact session dates are listed below.
PCT Session Dates Fall Session (18 weeks)
September 8-January 11
Spring Session (17 weeks)
January 12- May 10
Captains will be notified of any conflicts during the PCT session which would result in a cancellation of PCT on certain dates. Anyone who wishes to purchase PCT must fill out and sign a PCT form which is available at Atkins’ front desk. On the form each group must designate a captain who will be the contact person for the group. A $60 application fee must accompany the form and will be applied toward the purchase of PCT. PCT is allocated by means of a lottery system conducted in May for the following season. Once the lottery is complete, PCT may be reserved by selecting an open PCT court. PCT groups will be renewed automatically for the second session unless increased demand warrants a second lottery. PCT cannot be cancelled once a session has begun. Participants will receive an invoice in September for the fall session and in January for the spring session. The invoice will be payable at the Atkins Tennis Center front desk within 30 days of issuance. PCT prices reflect the total cost of a court for one of the 17 dates over a session. For example, a group who plays from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm on a weekday would share the total cost of $612 ($34 per date x 18 weeks). Below are the rates for PCT.
