FROM THE PRESIDENT__ _ FROM THE DIRECTOR It was very good to see all that attended the 2011 Illinois Holstein Convention in Quincy. Congratulations to all award winners, your recognition shows that the hard work you put in every day doesn’t go unnoticed. As always many changes will come about in the new year. First of all, we have received the resignation of our treasurer Andrew Smith. Even though he has only been with us a short time, we definitely appreciate the time and effort that he has put in. Moving forward, I would like to introduce our new Treasurer, Carol Jones. She can be reached by email at idea@earthlink.net or by phone at 815-934-5551. The Wendling family: Kevin and Jennifer, Many of you may already back, Morgan, left, Macy, right, know Carol as she is the and Gaige, center. daughter of Don and Shirley Zehr of Zehrview Farms in Graymont, Ill. If you get a chance, make sure to welcome her to the Illinois Holstein Association family. The 2012 committee meetings will be held January 3, 2012, in Bloomington, with a Board of Directors meeting to follow on January 4, 2012. We have made some changes to the committee member lists. Make sure to attend and participate in the committee of your choice. Much discussion is expected on the following committees: State Show, State Sale, Publications and also National Convention. Be sure to bring your ideas and participate. I can’t let this opportunity pass without touching on the 2011 Illini Golden Opportunity Sale. I for one was very encouraged by how the cattle sold, bidding was fast and furious and when the dust settled an average of over $3000 was obtained. A very good sign for the days to come and the value of registered Holsteins. As we head into 2012, I look forward to working with many of you. Whether your on the Executive Board, on one of our many committees, or if your involved with the State Show, State Sale, or next year’s convention. I’m sure we will do our best to move Illinois Holstein Association forward. Well, I hear the cows calling, so to wrap up I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and blessed New Year and the best of luck in whatever you do.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Best wishes to you and your loved ones. 2011 has been a very good year for Holstein Association USA. Business has been strong with a lot of interest in Registered Holsteins. Your leadership has been busy working to influence new dairy policy as well as represent your interests in discussions about the proposed Dairy Data Alliance. If you are not on Holstein Complete, I encourage you to contact Callie Unruh or the office in Brattleboro to find out how it might benefit you. Many members are saving money with this program. With the next three National Holstein Conventions being held in neighboring states, I hope that you would plan to attend one. It is a good opportunity to make new friends, visit successful breeders and learn more about your organization. With Illinois hosting the 2015 Convention, it is a good time to prepare ourselves to be great hosts. We need all of you helping to pull it off! Have a great 2012.

DUTCHESS DOMAIN__ Happy New Year Holstein Breeders! I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving and Christmas, was able to spend time with family, and remembered the real reason for the holidays. As dairy farmers, there is so much to be thankful for, and though it is easy to note the challenges, my Grandma has had some good words of wisdom. When things go wrong outside she has said, “Better in the barn, than in the house,” which is good to remind us of how fortunate we all are and how precious family really is. Though most of you had to work on the holidays, it is a blessing to have a career that means so much to you and does so much good for the consuming public. In between those holidays, many attended the Illinois State Holstein Convention, hosted by the Mississippi Valley Club in Quincy, Ill. I was able to attend the convention banquet and thought that it was a success, so thanks go to the host club for a nice convention and those that made the drive to attend. It was great to see everyone this fall at the shows and I would like to congratulate all Illinois exhibitors who represented Illinois so well! I certainly enjoyed finishing my Junior Holstein show career on a high note, so thanks to all that helped out. I need to say thank you to my parents for all that they did in order for me to get to show this year. From mom making sure I had clean white pants, to my dad and Uncle Ron taking care of cows while I was busy with the U of I judging team, I really appreciated it! Stay warm, stay safe, and remember that Spring, sunshine, and warmer temperatures will be here soon.

Holstein USA Holds Board Meeting
The Holstein Association USA, Inc. board of directors held its fall meeting in Chicago, Ill. on November 17-18, 2011. President Chuck Worden chaired the session. The board approved the 2012 Managementby-Objective Business Plan and associated budget, as presented by management. The Business Plan projects growth in sales of Holstein Association USA's core products and services. New for 2012, herd owners enrolled in Holstein COMPLETESM will receive volume discounts for genomic testing. Holstein COMPLETE provides a financial incentive for participating in several of the Association's products and services. The package includes membership, registration, classification, mating information, pedigrees, and production records. Update on 2011 Business Plan Management is pleased to announce registrations through November 12 were 303,800, up 3 percent over 2010. Regular transfers, for the same period, were up over 7 percent. Reporting through October, Holstein COMPLETE enrollment totaled 254,006 cows and 1,807 herds. This represents 6 percent more cows and 3 percent more herds since the end of 2010. AgriTech Analytics (ATA) General Manager Bill VerBoort reported ATA has processed
records on 882,377 animals through the end of October. This is a 2 percent increase in the number of records processed the same time last year at the Association's dairy records processing center, located in Visalia, Calif. Committee Reports The board of directors heard reports from the Audit, Genetic Advancement (GAC), Junior Advisory (JAC), Legislative Affairs, and Show Committees. The board approved a recommendation from the Genetic Advancement Committee to officially report carrier status for haplotypes impacting fertility (HH1, HH2, and HH3) from the new 6K SNP genomic test. This will become effective with the next genetic evaluation, scheduled for December. The Junior Advisory Committee made several recommendations which the board approved. Requirements have been streamlined for juniors who want to participate in junior production awards and the scrapbook and folding display contests. In an effort to encourage more participation in junior programs, the board approved the JAC's recommendations to simplify the applications for Distinguished Junior Member and Distinguished Young Junior Member recognitions, starting in 2013. Details will be provided on the Association's website. From the Show Committee, the board
approved the International Show at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis., and 10 National Shows for 2012. The list includes National Spring Shows in Columbus, Ohio; Stillwater, Okla.; Jefferson, Wis.; and Richmond, Utah; the National Summer Show in Columbus, Ohio; and National Fall Shows in St. Paul, Minn.; Puyallup, Wash.; Springfield, Mass.; Harrisburg, Pa.; and Louisville, Ky. The board also approved Syracuse, N.Y., as the site of the 2012 Judges Conference, to be held in conjunction with the New York Spring Dairy Carousel, and approved 36 judges for the 2012 National Judges List and 64 judges for the 2012 Qualified Judges List. Other Business In keeping with the policy to allow the release for reuse of a prefix after 20 years of non-use, the board will release of 2,149 prefixes effective December 31, 2011. _______Illinois places at National 4-H Quiz Bowl Contest The Illinois 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Team received “Honorable Mention” by placing 5th in the 2011 National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl competition held in Louisville, Ky., on November 4-5, 2011. In addition, Ryan Sheehan of Huntley was recognized as “top individual” in the written test. Team members included: Morgan Bollech, Kingston; Valerie Girot, Elizabeth; Ryan Sheehan, Huntley; and Jonathon Weekley of Trenton, Ill. The Illinois team was among 17 states competing from throughout the United States. The 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl has become a premier event of education and competition among young people involved with 4-H dairy project work. This was the 32th consecutive year for the Invitational 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl competition, held in conjunction with the North American International Livestock Exposition. The 4-H dairy quiz bowl is one of the nation’s most challenging contests for dairy youth as it tests the contestants’ knowledge in various areas including dairy production, dairy products and dairy science. The competition includes each team member answering a 50-question test and then each Illinois Holstein Herald
team competes with other teams in the double elimination contest. Each round consists of a series of 5 team questions and 20 toss-up questions. Thank you to Diamond V Mills, Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa for sponsoring the team
jackets and to the Illinois 4-H Foundation and the Illinois Milk Producers’ Association who sponsored the team expenses. Dave Fischer, retired University of Illinois Extension Dairy Educator, was the team coach and was assisted by Becky Meier, Ridott, Ill.

ILLINOIS HOLSTEIN ANNUAL MEETING December 2, 2011 · Quincy, Ill. President Kevin Wendling called the Annual Meeting of the Illinois Holstein Association to order at 9:10 a.m. at the Holiday Inn East, Quincy, Ill. There were 35 members and guests in attendance. On a motion by Bruce Clanton, seconded by Jim Schumacher the minutes of the December 11, 2010, annual meeting were approved as printed in the Winter 2010 issue of the Illinois Holstein Herald. Treasurer Andrew Smith distributed the checking account register from the past two months. State sale income and expenses were discussed, profit was estimated to be around $5,000. Regional Representative Callie Unruh presented the initial portion of the Holstein USA report. If members are not on the Complete program, she recommends they join to save money on classifications. In the future more incentives will be added to the program. Registrations are up 2% (as of the first of November), 37% came through the Complete program which grew 6%. In conclusion, Callie pointed out she is available to help members get caught up on registrations by the end of the year, just get in touch with her. Illinois Holstein Member and Holstein USA Director-at-Large Boyd Schaufelberger rounded out the Holstein USA report. Boyd noted how amazing it is that registration keeps increasing despite the current economy. Holstein USA is doing a great job with their budget, coming out ahead financially. Looking back on last year, there were three judges’ conferences and now there is a National Judges List with 35 people on it. There is another list of 64 Qualified Judges, who don’t have as much experience. Next year there will be only one National Judges Conference and to stay on the National List, judges must participate in one conference every three years. Boyd discussed the 6K genomics tests for $43 and how that is becoming the official test to verify genetics. Boyd discussed a new Dairy Herd Management software for registered breeders that is being worked on. If you are a member of the Complete program, you will get a 20% discount on the software purchase. Dave Fischer presented the Extension Report. Illinois Milk Producers Association is looking for programs to replace Dairy Days. Mike Hutjens, Dick Wallace and Dave will offer three workshops throughout the state January 31-February 2, 2012 (one each in Centralia, Bloomington and Freeport). The Dairy Extension Office will fill Dr. Mike Hutjens’ position for teaching and extension (not Page 8
research). Later, Dave reminded young people to apply for the Allen Tucker Scholarship by February. The committee annual summaries were presented as follows: Governmental Affairs Chairman: Body Schaufelberger At the December 2010 Committee Meeting, the Governmental Affairs Committee discussed Animal Welfare and how an educational process could be developed. One thing they will discuss at the January 2012 meeting will be meat and milk residues. Dutchess and Little Miss Holstein Chairman: Lori Lyons The 2011 contest was held in the air conditioned comfort of the Mini Expo building on the McLean County Fairgrounds in Bloomington on Wednesday, July 20th. Dave Fischer served as emcee of the contest and Prairie State Select Sires sponsored Dutchess Scholarship. The 2010 retiring Dutchess was Katie Probst. Katie received a tiara necklace as a retiring Dutchess gift. Judges for the 2011 competition were Valerie Greco, Matrix Show Cattle; Callie Unruh, Holstein USA; and Gene McCoy, University of Illinois. Amy Schaufelberger was crowned the 2011 Illinois Holstein Dutchess and this year’s Little Miss Holsteins are Megan Busker and Lila Sloan. Special thanks to the committee members for their input and assistance in preparation for the contest. Futurity Chairman: Wendy Erbsen The Two-year-old Futurity #44 and Fiveyear-old Futurity #21 shows were held on July 22, 2011, just prior to the Junior 2-year-old and 5-year-old classes respectively. Justin Burdette served as official judge. Erbacres Jasper Liberty, owned by Kevin Erbsen of Lanark, was the first place 2-year-old winner. First place in the 5-yearold futurity was Bluff-Ridge Gibson Dream owned by Sarah Butler of Arrowsmith. There were 24 2-year-olds shown and five 5-year-olds shown. Membership Chairman: Brian Olbrich Senior membership for 2011 totaled 505 while 2011 junior membership totaled 215. There were 13,160 senior cows and 1,072 junior cows in 2011. Membership fees were collected at a rate of $30.00 per senior member and $10.00 per junior member plus an additional $.50 per
milking age identified female. Membership revenue increased over $5,000 due to the membership fee increase. Planning and Evaluation Chairman: Gary Janssen The Planning and Evaluation Committee met last year and discussed organizing the 2015 National Convention. The site at Pheasant Run in St. Charles has been chosen. This year the committee also made the decision to change committee meetings back to January, apart from the State Convention. PDCA Calf Sale Chairman: Marc Hilgendorf; Report given by Gene McCoy The calf sale in 2011 had 32 head, the average sale price went back up to what it used to be. The next calf sale is April 14, 2012 and they will begin the search for calves after the first of the year. Promotions Chairman: Brent Pollard; Report given by John Mitchell The display board was utilized at the state show, sale and convention. Promotional Heralds were distributed at World Dairy Expo and National Convention. Julie Drendel has been responsible for updating the website in a timely manner. Beth Weas Cash and Stephanie Stout are Web Reporters, for the south and north respectively. Julie requested the Board discuss the future of the website as soon as possible. State Sale Chairman: Mike Netemeyer; Co-Chairman: John Erbsen; Co-Co-Chairman: Kevin Wendling The 2011 Golden Opportunity Sale was held at the fairgrounds in Carlyle, Ill., on October 22, 2011, to a rousing success. There were 82 live lots, 3 choices and one embryo package with a gross of $258,100 and an average of $3060. The highest selling lot was a choice from Jeffry Jett Butler for $12,000 purchased by Dr. David Fall 2011
Clayton of Granger, IN. The highest selling live lot was a Planet from Dylan Reed of Vandalia purchased by Dale Probst of Wheeler. By comparison, the 2010 sale at Golden Oaks had 73 live lots sold and eight sets of embryos (2 lots) for a gross of $160,550.00 with a live lot and choice sale average of $2,095.21. The sale received tremendous support from the state of Illinois as well as Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, New Mexico, Kentucky, Wisconsin and even Ireland. We also received donations of $1930 from Prairie States/Select Sires, Prairie Farms Dairy, ABS Global, South Central & Gateway FS, Agri-King Nutrition, Bovine Answers, and the Clinton County Vet Service. This sale is put on by the state organization, not just the three people in the lead, thank you!
spring. The Newly Elected IJHA Officers are: President, Aaron Mitchell; Vice President, Sarah Sheehan; Secretary, Emily Irwin; Treasurer, Morgan Bollech; and Reporter, Bri Sheehan. We have an outstanding group of juniors to work with. They are the future of this organization. Our goal is to get more of the juniors to participate in activities! We continue to work with the juniors to help them develop their leadership and communication skills as well as to teach them about sportsmanship and citizenship. We thank all the members who help the junior association financially. We truly appreciate your support.
State Show Chairman: Brian Wesemann; Co-Chairman: Nate Janssen The State Show was held July 21 & 22 at the Interstate Center, Bloomington. The weather was hot, but the number of animals was impressive regardless. Brian thanked all involved for their help. The site offered some challenges and the set-up was not done up to our expectations, but that was resolved and will be taken care of in the future. Fundraising was more of a challenge in 2011, they raised less than $8,000, compared to over $9,000 from the year before. For 2012, the Expo Center would like us to have the show in June or very early in July due to commitments they already have. This led to much discussion about the site and the need to explore other options such as county fairgrounds. Due to time constraints, the discussion was postponed until the January Committee Meeting.
Executive Chairman: Kevin Wendling The annual executive board meeting was in February and they had employee reviews for the first time in years. Shortly after, Lori Lyons resigned and candidates for Secretary and Treasurer were interviewed. Tina Yagow was hired as Secretary and Andrew Smith was hired as Treasurer. The transition phase has been difficult, but is coming along, the committee thanks everyone for their patience. President Wendling also thanked Vice-President Olbrich for communicating so well with him in the President/Vice-President relationship. Kevin thanked the rest of the Executive Committee for their help and participation. President Wendling also informed the group about the upcoming Committee Meetings in January in Bloomington. The Executive Committee only assigned chairmen and co-chairmen this year, and will allow anyone interested in attending to choose their own committee schedule/ assignments. In the future, committee lists may be determined from attendance sheets signed at the meetings in January.
Youth Chairman: Melissa Irwin; Co-chairman: Glen Meier Spring Thing was held March 5-6 in Bloomington at the Chateau Hotel. This was a change in location and worked out really well. The winning Junior dairy bowl team was the Boone-Winn Club and the winning Senior team was Tri-county. We had excellent participation in the speech contest as well as the poster contest. The Jeopardy contest was held in three age divisions. The Illinois Championship Show was again a huge success, 82 animals were exhibited. Big thanks to all the donors who sponsor plaques! We would ask that if you have not sent your payment that you get it to Glenn Meier ASAP. At the fall meeting held November 19 in Champaign, production awards and Junior AllIllinois certificates were presented. Emily Irwin was chosen as the YDJM candidate and will be submitting her book to the national contest this
Proposed By-law changes to Article VII – Administration Section 1, paragraph 4: The Board of Directors shall select four (4) of their members to act with the officers as an Executive Committee, which shall have the power of the Board of Directors between meetings of the Board. An officer(s) or director(s) of Holstein Association USA shall serve on the Executive Committee as a non-voting member. a voting member provided they live in the state of Illinois and are also a member of the Illinois Holstein Association, concurrent with their term as National Director or Officer. New paragraph 5: The retiring Illinois Holstein Association President will also serve on the Executive Committee as a voting member for two years following his/her retirements from that office. Section 3: Three A majority of voting members of the Executive Committee shall constitute a quorum.

President Wendling recognized our 2012 National Convention delegates – Ron Schaufelberg, Jason Oertel, Bob Miller and himself, Kevin Wendling. President Wendling asked Ray Hess to report on behalf of the Resolutions Committee which included Hess, Julie Drendel and Jerry Smith. DECEMBER BOARD MEETING December 2, 2011 · Quincy, Ill. President Kevin Wendling called a meeting of the Illinois Holstein Association’s Board of Directors to order at 12:15 p.m. at the Holiday Inn East, Quincy, Illinois. Secretary Tina Yagow called the roll. Fourteen directors were present, along with four members of the Executive Committee. Julie Drendel discussed sharing the cost of a booth at World Dairy Expo with other Midwest states. The total cost is $2,000 and would be split between 3, 4 or possibly 5 states. The motion was made to pursue participating in a Midwest States booth at the 2012 World Dairy Expo by Boyd Schaufelberger, second by Gary Janssen, more discussion followed. The group approved the motion. Julie Drendel also talked about IHA participating in a special Midwest Holstein summer issue. The average printing cost to us would be $2500-4000. The cover will look just like an Illinois Holstein Herald, but the inside
will have a lot more content with the Midwest advertisements. The issue will reach many more people. Jim Schumacher made the motion that the IHA participate in this special summer issue, Brian Olbrich seconded and the motion passed. President Wendling called for nominations to fill the four seats on the Executive Board for the coming year. Jim Schumacher, Bruce Clanton, Gary Janssen, Beth Weas-Cash, Steve Irwin, and Joe Engel were nominated. The nominations were closed and the vote revealed that Jim Schumacher, Bruce Clanton, Gary Janssen and Steve Irwin would be the elected Executive Committee representatives for the year. Based on the new By-laws change approved by the Annual Meeting of the membership, Dale Drendel will be a voting member as past IHA President and Boyd Schaufelberger will also be a voting member as a Holstein USA Director. Junior Journeys Illinois Junior Holstein Association Annual Meeting Minutes The Illinois Junior Holstein Association held their Fall Annual Meeting on November 19, 2011, at the Hawthorne Suites in Champaign, Illinois. Emily Irwin gave the reporter’s report saying that the paper scrapbook had placed 1st at National Convention, the digital scrapbook was 4th, and also to make sure to take lots of pictures this year for next year’s scrapbooks. The treasurer’s report was handed out by Morgan Bollech and showed a balance of $7,791.55. It was approved by Adam Olbrich, and seconded by Ryan Sheehan. Colleen Ziller’s secretary report from the March 6, 2011, meeting was handed out and read. Sarah Sheehan motioned to approve it and Ryan Sheehan seconded it. Vice President Haley Lyons reported that most of the money from state show was in and that the show went very well this year. JAC committee member Aaron Mitchell reported that they had just recently had a meeting and that there would be some changes coming for next year’s national convention. For old business, Spring Thing 2011 seemed to flow well, the people were good to work with, and the committee members for next year should try to get the same hotel. Illinois was represented well at National Holstein Convention in Virginia. Highlights included: • Aaron Mitchell being a DJM semifinalist and placing in Senior Jeopardy • Morgan Bollech placed in Intermediate Jeopardy • The Junior and Senior dairy bowl teams did well • The paper scrapbook was 1st, and the digital scrapbook was 4th • Kaylen Miller’s Junior folding display was 2nd. Next, Hayley Lyon’s gave a report about state show saying that everyone enjoyed the sweatshirts and that we were up in numbers this year. We discussed that if we give sweatshirts again next year for prizes that we should have one made up to use in pictures. We decided to leave it up to the next vice Illinois Holstein Herald
president to decide that. Also at state show, the workers auction was an easy way to earn money for the association, but next year we will hopefully have more people to be auctioned off and more buyers. The railbird judging which was also held at state show was also a good fundraiser as half of the money was donated back. The Boone-Winnebago club has finished their 4X4 barn quilt and it was decided that it would be auctioned off at the Senior Convention. If there was interest in the barn quilts, then the other clubs will each make one and possibly auction them off at the Sizzler. We then moved on to new business. The Spring Thing 2012 Committee: Meredith Ziller, Ryan Sheehan, Kaylen Miller, Emily Sheehan, Dan Obert, Brianna Sheehan, Anna Folgate, Morgan Bollech, and Miranda Kollmann need to get the hotel booked, but as a reminder it can’t be the last weekend in February. Haley Lyons asked for state show judge suggestions so that she can start contacting who we want. Molly Sloan and Chris McCullugh were mentioned. Haley Lyons also asked what ideas we had for prizes. Fleece sweatshirts and throws were suggested. Election of Officers was then held and they are as follows: President- Aaron Mitchell Vice President- Sarah Sheehan Secretary- Emily Irwin Treasurer- Morgan Bollech Reporter- Brianna Sheehan Production Awards were then handed out; we discussed using the same form that is turned in for National and move the deadline to Spring Thing. Winners would be forwarded to National. However, if we want to get more participation in the production awards, this would not be the way to go because the National form is more complex to fill out. Nothing was decided. Junior All-Illinois and Reserve Junior All-Illinois awards were handed out to the members that were present. There were no DJM books turned in, and Emily Irwin will be Illinois’ YDJM. There were no club scrapbooks turned in. Ludwig Farmstead Creamery After the Annual Junior Holstein Meeting the club was invited to visit the Ludwig family farm in Fithian, Ill. The Ludwig Farm is five generations old and still running strong especially due to their recent addition, the Ludwig Farmstead Creamery. They have a variety of different cheeses that they make using traditional European methods although they always add on a slight dissimilarity to make it their own. The Ludwig’s also take great pride in breeding top-of-the-line Holsteins. They want them to live a comfortable, healthy lifestyle with their longevity always in mind as well. We first started off through the office, past the lab and into the loafing shed. On one side they had two box pens where they kept their show cows. Alongside the box pens were free stalls where they kept their heifers. Before a calf can end up with the heifers in this shed they first started at the calf hutches which were right outside the shed. After weaning they were hauled over to another property until they reached a certain age so that they could maximize growth and finally found their way back to the main farm with the rest of the heifers. On the other side of the shed was free stalls which the milking cows were kept in which made it easy for them to open up a gate and bring a few into the parlor at a time. The parlor could hold up to 5 cows at a time. Once we walked through the milk house we found ourselves standing outside another building which was the Ludwig Farmstead Creamery. The creamery was just added to the farm within the past year and has started off on a good note. Walking in you saw the awardwinning Dutch cheese maker to your left. The milk was able to be pumped over from the parlor so it was easily accessible to be made into different types of European-style cheese. To

your right you can see the aging room, where the cheese is stored until the desired length of time is reached. Some of their prized aged cheeses include Kickapoo, which is similar to the German cheese Buterkase; Feather Ridge cheese, the creamery’s first cheese; Traditional Dutch Farmstead Gouda; and Jake’s wheel which was named after the creamery’s founder and similar to his favorite cheese, the Havarti. ILLINOIS JUNIOR BREEDER AWARD Steve and Emily Laesch, Laeschway Holsteins · Greenville, Ill.
The 2011 Junior Breeder award was presented to Steve and Emily Laesch of Greenville, Ill., during the banquet of the Senior Holstein Convention on December 2, 2011. The award was donated by the Erbsen Family in memory of the late Kenneth Erbsen. Steve Laesch grew up on a Guernsey and Holstein farm near Normal, Ill. He went to University of Illinois and graduated in 1992. While in college he was an Illini Dairy Club member and was on the U of I Dairy Judging team, being a member of the winning collegiate team at World Dairy Expo in 1991. While at the U of I he met Emily Schaufelberger and they were married in July of 1992. Steve worked for Rolling Lawns Farm until 1994, then went to work with his father-in-law, Ron, where his responsibility was caring for the cows. When Steve married Emily he also inherited some registered Holsteins that Emily had started as a 4-H and Jr. Holstein project. In 1995, Steve and Emily were blessed with a son, Joshua, and in 1998 Rebecca was born. In March of 2005, Ron and Karen built a house a half mile away and Steve and Emily moved to the dairy farm. Steve became more involved in management and herd decisions and in January 2006, he and Emily became sole owners and operators of Laeschway Dairy where they began making improvements to the dairy. Since that time, Steve has built a commodity shed, built a calf barn for weaned calves, remodeled the tie stall barn into an individual calf barn and replaced the old belt feed bunk with a covered drive through feed alley for dry cows and old barn cows. He was an influential part of building their three row free stall drivethrough barn in 2000. Through Steve’s management and breeding they developed Schaulane Outside Barbie EX90 2E GMD DOM from an Excellent Lindy. This family originated from Emily’s first 4-H calf, Bluff-Ridge Dutchoe Barbie, purchased in 1978 at the PDCA Calf Sale. Barbie’s best record at 6-07 is 42,280 3.7 1549 3.0 1266 in
365 days. Steve sold 10 bulls to A.I. studs as well as marketed embryos overseas. Currently, she has 10 Very Good and one Excellent daughter. Steve had the chance to sell some of her daughters in a few national sales, which sparked even more interest in her. Her daughter Schaulane Boliver Brandi-ET VG-86 sold in the 2007 Planet Holstein Sale to High Mountain Genetics of Ogden, Utah. Brandi best record is over 32,000 lbs. milk with a 3.4% fat test and 3.0% protein test. She is the dam of popular genomic young sire from Accelerated Genetics, Laeschway Jet Bowser GTPI +2138. Jet Bowser has gained some following in the field of genomics. He has some early daughters that have also tested high, including five on the Top 200 Genomic list. His highest daughter at +2475 GTPI is Sandy-Valley Bwsr Violet-ET. She is #51 on the Top 200 List of Genomic Females after the December 2011 run. However, he does not have any proven daughters to this point. Steve is excited to see what he daughters will do when the first ones calve out this coming spring. With the implementation of genomics, Steve is using more young sires than ever before, but only if they meet his breeding goals. He selects high type bulls with a focus on udder and feet and legs. He will use a high GTPI sire if the Type is high enough. He has calves being born by proven bulls Braxton, Guthrie, Sanchez, Fever and Jordan; young sires by Time and Atwood. For breeding, he is using Demspey, Hero and Sid as well as the young sires Bradnick, Shamrock and Magnus. Steve believes in using a little bit of a lot of bulls instead of a lot of just a few bulls. They now milk 125 registered Holsteins with production of 22,400 lbs. milk and BAA of 104 with 2 EX and 28 VG cows. Currently, Steve is working with a Very Good Shottle out of the Elegance family, Very Good Baxter from an Excellent Durham and an Armstead sister to Bowser.

He has also recently flushed Two-Fine Goldwyn Dor 2541 VG-88 DOM owned with Jerry Gaffner, Larry Kleiner and Steve Berlin. She has a +1961 GTPI and produced over 40,000 lbs. milk, one of Goldwyn’s top production daughters. She has a Million bull at Select Sires and a Bowser daughter sold to Select Sires. Steve continues marketing his animals through local and club sales as well as selling embryos. Over the next few years, he plans on keep the herd size the same but wants to focus on marketing genetics more. Steve and Emily are active members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where Steve has been on the board and served as chairman. Emily teaches Sunday School and serves as an organist along with helping with many other activities. Steve has served as DHIA delegate from his district and is currently on the Gateway Club board of directors. He’s also helped coach baseball and basketball teams in the area. Emily is a secretary at Greenville High School. Joshua and Rebecca have taken over the showing responsibilities for the farm where they regularly exhibit in 4-H and at the Gateway District Show and the Bond County Fair where they each have had Champion cow. Joshua has also shown at the State Championship show and at Section 19 FFA Fair for 2 years. In June he was recognized for being the top individual judge at the 2011 FFA State Dairy Judging contest. Steve and Emily are good examples of young dairymen being involved in their industry and their community. They have hosted many local, state and even international groups wanting to know more about dairying in the U.S., the most recent being a group of veterinarians from Holland and Spain this past September. They are extremely busy supporting their children in school activities where Josh plays basketball and baseball and is an officer in the Greenville FFA chapter. Rebecca plays volleyball, is a cheerleader and drum major for the Jr. High band. Page 15
ILLINOIS SENIOR BREEDER AWARD Tom and Kathy Neisen, Senteka Holsteins · Fowler, Ill. The 2011 Senior Breeder award was presented to Tom and Kathy Neisen, Fowler, Ill. The award was donated by the Erbsen Family in memory of the late Kenneth Erbsen. Tom and Kathy both grew up on dairy farms. In 1969, they married, and Tom began working at Moorman’s Dairy Research Farm in Quincy, Ill. His main responsibilities there were milking and breeding. It is during this time that Tom decided he wanted a dairy farm of his own. In 1981, Tom and Kathy started their own herd. Kathy said starting their own farm “was something we both knew, and it’s something we are both passionate about.” Currently, Senteka Holsteins has a herd average of 23,495 on 75 cows. Their last BAA was 104.6 with two Excellent and 26 Very Good. Tom’s breeding philosophy is simple: fancy cattle with outstanding udders and functional feet and legs. He tries to breed cows that are nice to look at and enjoyable to milk. They concentrate on milk quality and production. Tom said, “Bottom line, the milk check pays the bills!” Tom has been doing all the mating on the herd for the past 30 years. He also does all the hoof trimming and breeding. Tom and

Kathy have managed the operation themselves, never with the help of a herdsman, just their three children, Trent, Lance and Niki. Through Tom’s management and breeding practices, the family has had show winners at their local fairs for many years. When Tom and Kathy’s three children were younger, they would take a family trip to the PDCA calf sale to select 4-H projects. Kathy said this helped teach their children values, work ethic and responsibility. Today, they can still trace animals currently in the herd to two animals they started with in 1981. Bressners Star Fran EX-90 3E produced 148700 3.8 5668 3.1 3712 lifetime. Fran had six daughters who have greatly influenced the herd. Hinoli Mars Dolly VG-85 produced 167960 3.0 5039 2.7 2968 lifetime and had four daughters. Offspring from these two cow families continue to lead the way for the Neisens. They have won Grand Champion and Production classes at the Mississippi-Valley District Show and Adams County Fair. This past year, Senteka Mr Sam Darmee GP-83 was named Grand Champion of the Mississippi-Valley District Show. Reserve

Grand Champion of the same show was Senteka Garret Janie VG-85. Tom and Kathy are excited for the future of their herd. They have several Roy and Jasper young cows that look promising and have been shown at the local level. Tom and Kathy are active in the MississippiValley Holstein Club. Kathy’s father, Orville Loos, actually helped start the club. Kathy also runs a successful catering business. They have been named Premier Breeder and Exhibitor multiple times at their district show and are involved in other club activities.

Exciting Trip to the Netherlands By Robert Miller, Mil-R-Mor, Orangeville, Ill. I was invited by the Triple A Cattle Breeders Club of the Netherlands to address their annual meeting. Harry Weier of Deerfield, Wis., accompanied me. The meeting was held at a large meeting room at a beautiful golf course at Swifterbant. The intense interest of the Dutch farmers in cattle breeding was quite amazing to me and the meeting hall was filled to standing room only. It was a great pleasure and honor for me to discuss cattle breeding with these dedicated breeders in the motherland of the Holstein cow. For two days before the meeting, some of the officers and members of the cattle club took us to visit 11 farms and on Sunday took us sightseeing. It was a memorable delight to visit historic areas around Beemster where many of the more famous U.S. foundation Holsteins were imported from. In fact, this area produced one of the most influential importations ever made. He was a bull named “Netherland Prince” who was imported as a baby calf along with his mother in 1880. The “Holstein Friesian History” reports that the first 75 cows in North America to produce over 1,000 pounds of fat were all descendants of Netherland Prince. About 70 years after this importation, a pedigree research of all the cows in the U.S. with over 1,000 lbs. of fat showed more than 80 percent were descended from Prince. It is very interesting to note that Prince genetics have returned to their birthplace. The bull O-Man, a direct descendant of Prince, was bred by the Obert brothers right here in Stephenson County. Oman semen was sold in the Netherlands and most of the herds we visited showed us Oman daughters. Oman is held in very high regard by the Dutch breeders. In addition, Oman has sons in A.I. service in nearly every country in the world that has a Holstein population. All of the original foundation animals that founded the North American Holstein came from Holland and it was obvious on our visit that the Dutch breeders have never lost their intense passion for breed improvement. Mr. Weier and I were very impressed with the well-designed barns that featured both cow comfort and labor efficiency. Several farms milking over 100 cows were handled by one man with perhaps some school-age children helping with calf chores. The land base on most farms is small by our standards with 100 acres being a common size. With these small farms it is more economical to hire custom operators than to own machinery and most farms are cropped by custom operators. Illinois Holstein Herald
The 11 herds we visited were all of similar size. They ranged from 100 milk cows to 130. The quality of the cattle we saw was remarkably good with the longevity of their cattle being quire superior to the U.S. average. Each of the herds would point out several cows that had produced over 200,000 pounds of milk—and a few over 300,000 pounds—in their lifetime. These high-lifetime cows were impressive; they still had sound udders and good feet and legs with excellent strength and mobility. One of the more interesting visits was to a herd of pure Dutch Friesians that has been a closed herd for about 40 years. They raise their own herd sires from their best cows. Observing this beautiful, uniform herd makes one wonder if all the fuss in our country about the negative impact of inbreeding is fact or fiction. These cows are not as tall as Holsteins and at first resemble beef cows with their extreme fleshiness. However, when you carefully analyze them they have flat, dairy-like bones, silky hides, and long necks with strong heads. All these traits suggest good production but when we examined the official milk records we were positively amazed to see records of up to 1,600 pounds of fat and 1,200 pounds of protein in 365 days. This was the most uniform type herd and the best feet and legs for a whole herd that I have ever seen. The udders were soft and pliable and carried high enough but were not as shapely as Holsteins. The owner and his son were master cowmen who understand breeding like few others I have ever met. It was a real learning experience to visit with them. Among the interesting sites was a visit to a restored working windmill of the original Dutch type. This windmill was 50 feet high with four, 40-foot blades that came within two feet of the ground. It was entirely made of wood, even the blades and the huge drive gears inside were wooden. This windmill pumps 15,000 gallons per minute! Most of the Netherlands is below sea level and the Dutch have been draining and reclaiming land for over 400 years. Many thousands of miles of ditches and canals channel the water to where it is pumped over the dykes into the sea. Since about 1930, electric motors and diesel engines run the pumps that keep the Netherland habitable. Prior to that huge wooden windmills drained the water. Water pumping is a continuous and costly project that is now managed by the government but previously was all done by wealthy entrepreneurs who made huge profit building dykes and by draining
thousands of acres of shallow water and selling the land for farming. Almost all of the Netherlands is flat and within a few yards of sea level, plus or minus. The land is extremely productive and very expensive. From the land prices I was quoted I estimate the land was three or four times as expensive as Stephenson County land. Harry and I were very impressed with the high quality cattle we saw. We realize we saw some of the elite breeder herds and not the average. However, we did see eleven herds and they were all top quality. The owners were all passionate about their pedigrees and mating choices. They knew every cow’s pedigree and were constantly discussing mating options. They are on a milk quota and can’t make more milk so they breed for higher components to increase their profits. Herd averages we saw were all about 7.5% for CFP. Their roughage is corn silage and rye grass. They don’t grow any legumes. This probably helps their components to be so high. Nearly everyone speaks English and the Dutch breeders gave us real interesting in-depth herd tours pointing out cow families, etc. They sure treated us royally and I told Harry we better go home soon before we get a swelled head.

NATIONAL 4-H DAIRY JUDGING CONTEST
The 2011 National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging contest was another exciting event for Illinois 4-H’ers. The Illinois 4-H dairy judging team placed 9th high team overall in a strong contest held at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis. The Illinois 4-H team was among twenty-nine teams from across the nation who competed for top honors on October 3. Illinois team members included: Dylan Reed, Beecher City; Samantha Ropp, Strawn; Sarah Sheehan, Huntley; and Erik Sheppelman of Bloomington, Ill. On an individual basis, Samantha Ropp placed 7th high individual out of 109 contestants and received an “All-American” plaque, which is presented to the “Top 25”. Dylan Reed placed 19th in Guernsey. On a “top 10” team basis by breed, Illinois 4-H was recognized for placing 5th in Ayrshire, 5th in Guernsey, and 8th in the Holstein breed. The Illinois 4-H team was sponsored by the Illinois 4-H Foundation and Illinois Milk Producers’ Association. In addition, Effingham Equity, Effingham, Ill., sponsored the team jackets. The team was coached by Dave Fischer, University of Illinois Extension Dairy Educator, retired.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS DAIRY JUDGING RESULTS
Members of the 2011 University of Illinois dairy judging team were: Michelle Fluty, Bloomington, Amy Schaufelberger, Greenville, Paul Schumacher, St. Rose, Erin Petersen Cropsey, Haley Lyons, Rockford, Kaleb Pruemer, Shelbyville, and Angie Boesche DeKalb, Ill. Junior team members Lyons, Pruemer, and Boesche participated in the 18th Accelerated Genetics Intercollegiate Dairy Judging Contest in Viroqua, Wis., on September 18. The team was 7th out of 17 teams overall and 6th in reasons. The team placed 4th in Guernseys, 5th in Holsteins, and 6th in Milking Shorthorns. At the 43rd Intercollegiate Dairy Judging Contest hosted by the All-American Dairy Show in Harrisburg, Pa., on September 19, team members Amy Schaufelberger, Michelle Fluty, and Paul Schumacher were 10th both in reasons and overall .The team was 4th and individually Schaufelberger placed 1st in Brown Swiss. In Holsteins the team placed 7th with Schumacher and Schaufelberger placing 14th and 24th respectively. Michelle Fluty was 10th with the team placing 10th in Jerseys. Illinois Holstein Herald
On October 3, Fluty, Schaufelberger, and Schumacher competed at the 2011 National Collegiate Dairy Judging Contest at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis. The team was 9th overall and 8th in reasons out of 21 teams. Individually in reasons, Amy and Michelle were 11th and 19th respectively. Michelle Fluty was an All American placing 21st overall. In Ayrshires, the team was 2nd with Michelle placing 6th, Amy 13th and Paul 17th. The team placed 7th in Guernseys, 10th in Milking Shorthorns and 11th in Holsteins. Amy Schaufelberger was 1st and the team was 8th in Jerseys. The University of Illinois Dairy Judging team composed of Fluty, Schaufelberger and Schumacher judged at the North American International Livestock Dairy Contest held in Louisville, Ky., on November 6. The team was 6th in reasons and 10th overall with 16 teams competing. Overall, Amy placed 16th and 3rd in reasons. Michelle was 9th in Ayrshires and Paul was 12th in Brown Swiss. Amy was 1st in Brown Swiss and the team placed 2nd. In Holsteins the team placed 5th and Amy was 8th.

KASKASKIA DAIRY JUDGING The Kaskaskia College Dairy Judging team enjoyed an extremely successful season this fall. Competing in three national contests, the team was never outside the top six team placings and brought home numerous awards. Ellingson Receives Illinois Distinguished Service Award The Illinois Milk Producers’ Association has awarded its Dairy Industry Service Award, to a life-long Poplar Grove (Boone County) dairy farmer. It is given by this board annually and is meant to recognize an Illinois person who has contributed to the betterment of our state’s dairy industry. This year’s winner is Don Ellingson. Don and his wife, Gen, are Foremost Farms USA members, and have been actively engaged in dairy farming for more than 66 years, raising four children. At 87 years young, Don is still known to hold the halter in the showring, and has a long line of high-quality cows that have been very successful at many major venues. The Ellingson family’s cowherd is the longest continually-classified Holstein herd in the country. He has served in many capacities with his cooperative, the Boone County Farm Bureau, local DHIA, Illinois Holstein Association, 4-H, dairy bowl team coach, and the Poplar Grove School Board. Don also was a charter member of the Illinois Milk Promotion Board and served as its district #2 director for 24 years. During that time, he oversaw the investment of more than $50 million in checkoff monies. Fall 2011

OCTOBER BOARD MEETING MINUTES_________ October 21, 2011 · Carlyle, Ill. A meeting of the board of directors was called to order by President Kevin Wendling at 3:10 pm on October 21, 2011 at the Clinton County Fairgrounds, Carlyle, Ill. President Wendling asked Tina Yagow to record the roll. The minutes of the June meeting were approved as read, following a motion by Bruce Clanton that was seconded by Harvey Harpstrite. The treasurer’s report was distributed in Andrew Smith’s absence. As he is just starting the position, more details will be forthcoming. On a motion by Joann Hartman and second by Jim Schumacher, the group approved the report. Boyd Schaufelberger reported on Holstein USA business. From a financial standpoint, Holstein USA is doing well, ahead of last year. Holstein USA has endorsed the Peterson Bill in Congress and wants to be aggressive in encouraging the bill (more information at http://democrats.agriculture.house.gov/ press/PRArticle.aspx?NewsID=1118). He continued to discuss USDA and Dairy Data Alliance from June 2011. The Holstein USA board will meet November 17 & 18 in Chicago and this will be great exposure for Illinois Dairy Farms through tours of local dairies. There was no extension report given. 2015 National Convention Our committee members went to the annual meeting in Richmond. Our committee tried to create a partnership with IN and IA, but IA already has sponsorship for 2014 and IN needs to get going on their plans for 2013 quickly so they can’t wait for us. Delegates voted to go back to two-day business meeting schedule. We need to put together a steering or advisory committee which needs to meet prior to January with the goal of identifying potential sponsors and a preliminary budget. 2011 IL Holstein Award Nominees Everyone was reminded to get nominations to Kevin Wendling ASAP for Sr. Breeder, Jr.
Breeder and Distinguished Service Award. 2012 Committee Meetings Meetings will be held January 3-4, in Bloomington. Kevin asked everyone to make plans to attend. Format will be different this year because Convention will be 2 days in December and committee meetings will be separate in January, including a Directors meeting. Employee updates Tina Yagow was introduced as Secretary and Andrew Smith was named as Treasurer, though he was not present. State Show Brief results were announced by Kevin Wendling. Boyd Schaufelberger reminded us to check with the Expo Center in Bloomington about future contracts. Brian Wesemann and Nate Janssen are co-chairs. A thank you note was read from Lee Oltman regarding the Show Dedication Award he received. Club Rebate money has not been sent out yet but Andrew is aware that needs to be done ASAP. State Sale chair Mike Netemeyer reported there are approximately 100 lots listed in the sale catalog for tomorrow. The sale starts at 10:30 am Saturday, October 22. The board applauded Mike for his work and Mike complimented all of the people who were helping him organize the sale. Julie Drendel gave a report about the Herald. All advertising from the June Herald has been paid and bills are going out for the October Herald. Julie asked for consideration of electronic billing via email to save on postage. She spoke about the opportunity for Illinois to share a booth with other Midwest states at World Dairy Expo to set out our publication, the Executive Board will make a decision in December. The board previously asked Julie about putting a “mail date” on copies of the Herald, and she has found out from the printer that is basically impossible but she can put a
date in the credits inside noting when it was sent to the printer but the production time is out of our hands. For the December Herald, it will be smaller and then in January, Julie and Tina could work together on a newsletter to provide more news in a faster fashion. Julie has bids out for printers in the Bloomington area to replace the printer we used previously which went out of business. Julie also spoke about the website, which is being updated frequently. More members are becoming Facebook “friends” of the IHA and that is a way to update information quickly without cost. The website agreement is through January and will need to be renegotiated. Payments by advertisers on the website need to be verified as part of the new Treasurers financial discovery. Brian Wesemann arrived and spoke about the State Show from July 2011. There were many challenges, but everything turned out well and the event was financially sound. For the future, the facility contract may need to clarify how much preparation they will do to have it ready for the show for us. The issues of their ownership change and fees were discussed. The contract for next year is still unsigned and the date is still to-be-determined. The board commended Brian and Nate for their chairmanships for so many years, and Brian in-turn thanked the Directors for their help and support. Beth Weas Cash presented information about the December Convention, with a packet for each board member containing information from the Quincy visitors’ bureau, tours, events, registration, etc. The registration form is also available on the website. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:35 pm following a motion by Gary Janssen that was seconded by Brian Olbrich and pass by the group. OBITUARIES_______________________________________ Edwin E. Busboom Edwin E. Busboom, 88, of Flatville, Ill., went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 6, 2011, at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford, Ill. He was born March 30, 1923, in Compromise Township, a son of Henry and Tina (Gerbers) Busboom. He married Eleanor Grussing on April 11, 1942, in Flatville. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2008. Page 26
He is survived by a son, Edgar (Kay) Busboom of Flatville; three daughters, Elaine (Ray) Uken of Royal, Eileen Busboom of Savoy and Evonne (Chris) Hausman of Pesotum; six grandchildren, Tammy, Gary, Michelle, Matt, Tim and Nick; two stepgrandchildren, Jenny and Katie; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Elroy; an infant son; his parents; two brothers, Edward and Lorenz; and two sisters, Anna Meier and Martha Lubben.
Edwin was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a dairy farmer in the Flatville area all his life. He also owned and operated the Busboom Milk Hauling Service for more than 45 years. He started showing cattle at the county fairs, a tradition still carried on by his great-grandchildren. His priorities in life were Faith, Family and Farming. The Boone-Winnebago Holstein Club held their annual meeting at the Machine Shed on November 22, 2011. We enjoyed good food and fellowship, honored our award-winning juniors, and discussed the events of 2011, and those to come in 2012. Jennifer Wakeley was elected to serve as our state director to replace Brent Pollard. Club officers were elected, with Mark Irwin, President; John Mitchell, Vice-President; Brent Pollard, Secretary/Treasurer; Carrie Pollard, Reporter. Mark Irwin is recovering well from a broken leg. We wish Melissa, Emily, Brock & Justin patience and a slower pace as Mark recovers slowly, but surely. We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. Carrie Pollard
Our annual meeting was November 4, 2011, at the Paloma Community Building. Kathy Neisen catered the meal and there were about 40 people present. Most of the meeting focused on planning the state convention and acquiring a building to house our Shake Stand that we have at the Adams County Fair. Junior awards were presented to Outstanding Boy under 15, Jordan Thorman and Junior Girl under 15, Hannah Weiman; and Senior Boy 16 and over, Cory Thorman. Niki Neisen and Senteka Holsteins were named Premier Breeder and Exhibitor from our District Show. Winners from our judging contest were: Sr. Male, Danny Frericks; Sr. Women, Rita Frericks and Helen Thorman; Jr. Boy, Jacob Phillips; and, Jr. Girl, Grace Ackers. Officers for the upcoming year are Jeff Thorman, President; Herb Schmiedeskamp, Vice-President; Niki Neisen, SecretaryTreasurer; Beth Cash, Reporter; and our new state director, Herb Schmiedeskamp. We decided to donate $300 of dairy products to local food banks for the Holiday Season. Our club would also like to thank everyone who attended the 2011 Illinois Holstein Convention. Our club held its annual meeting on November 13, 2011, in Sycamore with 21 adult members and 6 juniors present. New faces included Rich Meyer with Sue Horvath from Beecher. Rich milks 30 Holsteins, primarily red. Jerry and Joy Monkemeyer, Elgin, milk both colors of the Holstein cow. I also visited with Urs Brugger, an intern working at Luck-E Holsteins from Switzerland. He shared stories of milking his 20-cow herd that includes one black Talent daughter. The animals are taken into the mountains and remain there from May 15th to the 1st of October. They are milked using alternators; the milk is made into cheese and the whey fed to pigs. He will leave Illinois and return home the end of January 2012. Both Lindale and Luck-E Holsteins hosted the national board of Holstein USA on November 19. Other news: George Drendel celebrated his 85th birthday on November 12. Andy Lenkaitis married Sarah Galdi on October 29, 2011. Andy works for GEA Farm Technologies and Sarah works at Rhea + Kaiser, an advertising agency. Michael Drendel, son of Mark and Pam Drendel, will marry Rebecca Lackowski on October 19, 2012, and Joe Mills will marry Erin Arnett in October 2012. Linda Drendel
CLINTON The Clinton County Holstein Club recently held their annual meeting. New officers include: President Bill Janssen, Vice-President Aaron Heinzmann, Secretary/Treasurer Jill Brammeier, and Co-Reporters Tracy Harpstrite-Grayling and Dena Brammeier. New directors for the club are: Steve Kollmann, Chris Kollmann, Todd Netemeyer, Matt Jansen, Bill Jansen, Aaron Heinzmann, Joyce Huelsmann, Harvey Harpstrite, Mike Netemeyer, Jason Brammeier and Kurt Thole. Several awards were also presented. Jessy Schomaker of Germantown received the Junior Breeder Award and Kalmer Dairy of Damiansville received the Senior Breeder award. Delores Richter of Highland was the Distinguished Service Award winner. Adrienne Brammeier was also named the Distinguished Junior Girl for 2011.
