From Gus Bender, Illinois Youth Soccer President

After a 2016/17 soccer year filled with mandates from US Soccer, we are excited for a soccer year full of new opportunities. The Fall season is underway and hopefully this new e-publication will help you to navigate through the process and due to some staff changes, point you to the correct program administrators at Illinois Youth Soccer. We welcomed Adam Howarth as our Director of Coaching in June and just recently Katie O’Malley joined us as our new Registration, Events & Communication Assistant. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions about the benefits of being a member organization of Illinois Youth Soccer.

In addition to information for this Fall, we are planning for the Spring season and you can find details about Spring State Cup, Presidents Cup, Illinois Cup, the 2nd Spring Soccer Festival and our redesigned 9v9 competition Junior Cup. All these programs offer playing opportunities for teams of all skill levels from the most elite to recreational teams.

I wish you much luck this Fall season and thank you for supporting Illinois Youth Soccer and our programs.

-Gus Bender, Illinois Youth Soccer President

As the Young Sportsmen's Soccer League approaches its 50th year supporting and servicing youth soccer in our communities, we would like to thank those who have made this possible.

In the forefront and the true faces of the YSSL are Jan Berkley, the Executive Director and Meredith Wong, the Office Manager. Jan is the organizer and automation coordinator that keeps the league moving forward and improving our digital backbone. Meredith coordinates and processes the daily and seasonal tasks that keep the league functioning. Both share the daily communication processes that are needed to respond to passes, game changes, e-mails, referees and coaches reports and complaints. They are our key representatives to clubs expressing interest in the YSSL.

In the background there are hundreds of individuals and groups that keep the YSSL growing and getting better. We have Referee Assignors who have the daily and weekly task of making an ever-changing schedule covered with Referees and Assistant Referees. The Referees themselves; who without them, there is no game. Club Administrators who work endlessly to keep their clubs informed and on task for what is needed to coordinate with the YSSL. Our DOC Committee and participating DOC’s at meetings. At the meetings they keep us informed and on point with our directions and development. Our DOC Committee works hard and struggles to keep our competitive teams challenged and our local community clubs playing and having fun.

This fall we have 1,037 teams. A number that is growing; and continues to grow, thanks to all of you. The DOCs, Coaches and parents continue to spread the word and inform others about positive experiences in the YSSL. We are always striving to improve and most importantly, we are listening to you. Thanks to all of you for being a member of the Young Sportsmen's Soccer League, helping us grow, and providing the experience you want from your soccer league. Respectfully,

Bob Berkley
