The world of soccer is full of abbreviations, IYSA, USYS, USSF and on and on. It’s hard to keep track. Here is a cheat sheet to help you sort thru the alphabet soup of abbreviations in the soccer world in Illinois
CEP: Coaching Education Program Whether you are a beginning parent coach or an elite level travel team coach, Illinois Youth Soccer provides the latest US Soccer certification and licensing coaching courses in English and Spanish. US Soccer licensed instructors provide the latest coaching information, techniques and tools to help you handle the challenges of coaching in a fun, learning environment.

CIYSL: Central Illinois Youth Soccer League A member competitive league of Illinois Youth Soccer. Founded in 1980, CIYSL serves over 200 teams in the central part of the state and in 2010 expanded to include CIYSL-North, for teams in the greater Chicagoland area.
DCC: Digital Coaching Center The DCC is a state-of-the art online educational platform. The DCC allows coaches to create a personal profile, register for courses, communicate with technical staff, take part in online courses, create session plans with an online graphics tool, access an archive of U.S. Soccer training sessions and much more.
ILLOWA Not an abbreviation. ILLOWA is the Illinois Youth Soccer member competitive league that services teams along the Illinois / Iowa border.
ISRC: Illinois State Referee Committee Want to be a referee? The ISRC handles all referee training and certification for Illinois
IWSL: Illinois Women’s Soccer League The IWSL is the premier amateur women’s soccer league in the state. With over 1200 youth and adult teams, the IWSL is the world’s oldest and largest all female soccer league.
IYSA: Illinois Youth Soccer Association That’s us. Proudly serving the Illinois soccer community since 1975, Illinois Youth Soccer is one of Illinois’ largest youth sports organizations with over 87,000 registered players. We are the official state association of US Youth Soccer and a member of the US Soccer Federation.
MRL: Midwest Regional League US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League provides an opportunity for the most competitive teams in the Midwest to play each other on a scheduled basis while also competing for placement in the prestigious US Youth Soccer Regional Championships, as well as automatic qualification into the highlycompetitive US Youth Soccer National League.
ODP: Olympic Development Program ODP is the first step in the identification process for the National and Olympic Teams. The Illinois Youth Soccer Association conducts the program for US Soccer under the jurisdiction of the US Olympic Committee. The purpose of this prestigious program is to identify players on the basis of open tryouts and develop them to represent their state, region, and the United States in soccer competition.
SLYSA: St. Louis Youth Soccer Association SLYSA is the newest Illinois Youth Soccer competitive league and features over 950 teams. The Illinois portion of SLYSA, services 180 teams in the southern portion of the state.
SPD: State Premiership Division Illinois Youth Soccer started the State Premiership Division in Spring 2013 with support from our competitive member leagues. This exclusive competition was designed to give elite teams that are registered with Illinois Youth Soccer competitive member leagues an opportunity to compete against the other top teams in the state.
USSF: US Soccer Federation USSF is the governing body of soccer in the United States. Illinois Youth Soccer is the Official State Association and a Charter Member of US Soccer. USYS: US Youth Soccer Illinois Youth Soccer is a member of US Youth Soccer, the country’s largest youth sports organization. Members of Illinois Youth Soccer are also members of US Youth Soccer.
YSSL: Young Sportsmen’s Soccer League Illinois Youth Soccer’s largest boys competitive league with over 1,600 teams. Started in 1968, the YSSL offerrs divisions for teams of all skill levels.

State Cup
The Illinois State Cup is the most prestigious tournament in Illinois and the official state championship tournament of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Don’t be confused by similarly named league tournaments claiming to be a "state cup" championship.
Since 1966, even before its incorporation, Illinois Youth Soccer has been conducting this official annual state competition that is part of the national US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. The winners of the Illinois State Cup advance to the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Tournament and have the opportunity to qualify for the US Youth Soccer National Championship Finals.

Presidents Cup
The Illinois Presidents Cup provides Illinois Youth Soccer member teams in the 13U – 19U age groups an alternative to the Illinois State Cup and an opportunity to advance and compete against teams from across the country in regional and national competitions.
Illinois holds one of the largest Presidents Cup competitions in the country and Illinois teams have won 19 out of a possible 42 Midwest Presidents Cup titles since 2014. The National Presidents Cup championships showcase the four Regional champions in the 13U-18U age groups on a National stage.

Illinois Cup The Illinois Cup is a state championship tournament open to Illinois Youth Soccer member travel and high-level rec teams. Midwest Regional League (MRL)
The US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League is the premier league competition for the US Youth Soccer Midwestern Region.The Midwest Regional League joins the Eastern Regional League, Southern Regional Premier League and the Far West Regional League as the top regional competitions throughout the country.
Each US Youth Soccer Regional League is comprised of the top teams in their respective region that have earned their spot based on a proven track record of success in US Youth Soccer competitions. The top finishers in each regional league earn advancement to the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships, part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, the oldest and most prestigious youth soccer national championship competition in the country, and a chance to earn a coveted spot in the US Youth Soccer National League.

Illinois Youth Soccer started the State Premiership Division in Spring 2013 with support from our competitive member leagues. This exclusive competition was designed to give elite teams that are registered with Illinois Youth Soccer competitive member leagues the opporutunity to compete against other top teams in the state. In 2017, a US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Champion, 4 State Cup Champions, 7 Presidents Cup Champions, 11 MRL Champions, 4 State Cup Finalists, 5 Presidents Cup Finalists and 7 State Cup Semifinalists played in the State Premiership, providing teams the opportunity to play against the best teams in the state.

Game Changes
Although team schedules are due to the Illinois Youth Soccer office by APRIL 1, teams are allowed unlimited game changes. To get a game changed after the April 1 schedule deadline teams must do the following no later than 72-hrs prior to the originally scheduled match: Email chrisj@illinoisyouthsoccer.org a new agreed upon date, time and location that BOTH teams agree on. Representatives from BOTH teams should be included on the email. NO GAME CHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION. Games cancelled by teams without emailing this information may result in a forfeit.
