BC Greening - from green thoughts to green action As Scandinavia's leading trade fair, exhibition and convention organiser, it is Bella Center's policy to consider the environment in all activities. Our policy is to use energy, water and raw materials as efficiently as possible. In building up exhibitions, trade fairs and conventions, we place considerable focus on safety and the environment. It was Bella Centers first aim to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20 per cent from 2007 to 2009 and 25 percent by the end of 2015. That aim has been met and in October 2009 Bella Center was Green Key certified. In the last two years Bella Center has so far invested 20 million Danish kroner in what we call BC Greening: - A new energy management system - New ventilation and air condition - Sun film on windows - Replacement of light fittings with more energy-saving alternatives - Movement sensors in changing rooms, toilets and other remote areas - Computer monitors have been replaced with flat screens and PC's with laptops - An overall plan for waste management is underway - The cleaning agents used are environmentally friendly - Chilled tap water has replaced the yearly consumption of 100,000 plastic bottles - Disposable materials (plastic glasses and coffee cups) are made of biodegradable material - The electric cookers in the main kitchen have been replaced with town gas cookers Mr Green Key One of the most important resources in this green process is each individual - employees, suppliers and customers. When the green initiatives were launched, a little toy monkey was made the symbol of the project. The monkey goes by the name of Mr. Green Key, and he indicates that his owner needs to be involved and assume responsibility for Bella Center's new green profile. All employees were supplied with a Mr. Green Key, and he has found a permanent home at many of the workplaces in Bella Center, serving as a reminder of the joint project: - Overall Bella Center want to ensure that our buildings are constructed and run in an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient way - Reduce the volume of waste we generate by recycling as much as possible, including reusing materials and products which are suitable for recycling - Minimise our consumption of energy, paper, water and other resources - Monitor and streamline our energy consumption to achieve continual reductions - Insist on environmentally friendly supplies at competitive prices - Enter into dialogue with our business partners with a view to creating environmentally friendly solutions, when they are visiting the building as guests/customers
