Eclipse Ambassador Community Partnership

AN ECLIPSE is an awe-inspiring celestial event that changes the appearance of the two biggest objects we see in the sky: our Sun and Moon. When the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth, and is perfectly aligned, the Moon blocks the light of the Sun from reaching Earth. The result is a total solar eclipse. The track of the Moon’s shadow across the Earth’s surface is called the Path of Totality. In order to see the Sun fully eclipsed by the Moon you must be in the path of totality.

On April 8, 2024, a total eclipse of the sun will occur across a large portion of the United States including Northeast Ohio and the Greater Cleveland region.

According to NASA, Medina will experience the Path of Totality from approximately 3:13 p.m. until 3:17 p.m., with a total eclipse time of roughly 2 ½ hours.

The City of Medina has been awarded an Eclipse

Ambassador Community Partnership by the Great Lakes Science Center. The goal of the Ambassador program is to decentralize STEM learning into communities, creating access for all. According to the Great Lakes Science Center, Eclipse Ambassadors will be trained in eclipse education, basic astronomy, and eclipse viewing safety, and outfitted with equipment including a telescope with a solar viewing filter, educational materials, solar viewing glasses, and materials for activities.

As an Eclipse Ambassador Community Partner, Medina is planning a full weekend of educational and social events for all ages leading up to the Monday eclipse. Stay tuned for updates from the city.

Chad Gibson is the General Manager at Bunker Hill Golf Course in Medina, where he continues his passion for the community as host of two local high school golf teams and the Special Olympics.

As a Medina County native who’s worked at Medina County Golf Courses and Event Centers for 35 years, his philosophy of giving shows in networking, community involvement, investing in and helping individuals, families, and businesses succeed.

Chad has hosted over 2,600 events that has raised $6,000,000 for our local schools, churches, military, scouts, families in need, and non-profits. Over the years, Chad and his team have developed a niche in hosting and co-chairing events to help the community.

Chad spent several years as a director and a volunteer for local Chambers and non-profit organizations. He was a former member of BNI with past leadership roles as President, Vice President, Mentor, and Ambassador.
