pond hockey

You are about to participate in Alberta’s best kept sporting secret which will see Lac Cardinal transformed into a hockey player’s paradise. Word has quickly spread that Lac Cardinal serves host to Alberta’s premiere pond hockey experience. During the past three months the tournament website, w w w.albertapondhockey.com, has received in excess of 29,000 visits from around the globe, demonstrating how quickly our secret is being shared.

The Alberta Pond Hockey Championships defines who we are as Canadians as we proudly display our heritage and share our passion for the game of hockey. What started out as a vision has become a reality through countless volunteer ef forts and the support of the entire Peace Region. This year’s tournament will feature 250 volunteers and 400 participants which will form 80 teams from across Canada. As residents of the Peace Region we are proud to serve as your hosts and welcome you to the land of the Mighty Peace. It is our hope that the 2009 Alberta Pond Hockey Championships will exceed your expectations and that you will join us again in 2010. Let the spirit of the pond prevail!

John Haney, President Alber ta Pond Hockey Association

“Greetings! Just a note to say what a great time I had at the Alberta Pond Hockey Championship near Peace River, Alberta. The scenario was spectacular. The people were happy and having a fantastic time. Everything was done perfectly. IT WAS A CLASSY EVENT! I couldn’t wait to get back to Boston and tell everyone all about it. Good luck this year and keep skating.” Gerry Cheevers, former Boston Bruin, Hockey Hall of Fame Legend “One of Alberta’s best-kept sporting secrets. The Alberta Pond Hockey Championships will blow you away. From being an incredibly well organized and family oriented event, to offering truly high-end competition.” Richard Wright, Edmonton Sun

“Frozen toes. Pucks lost in the snow. Dreams of scoring the overtime winner. Those were my memories growing up playing hockey on the outdoor pond at my home near Irma, Alberta. They were memories I was able to re-live on Lac Cardinal the last two years. The Alberta Pond Hockey Championship reminded me and likely the hundreds of others who laced them up what it means to be Canadian. To celebrate winter, the sport we love and just plain old good fun with friends and family. Game on!” Rob Williams, CTV Edmonton
