PLAY
All of these attributes begin with a solid foundation of training in the basics of musicianship, individual instrument or voice lessons, improvisation, music theory and history. GPRC also offers composition and recording technology. Exploration of the diverse world of music includes learning about influences from classical to pop culture to world music. Our facilities are equipped with grand and upright pianos, drum sets and other percussion instruments, sound-proof modules and practice rooms, rehearsal and recital halls, a computer/music lab, state-of-the-art Digital classrooms, recording studio and more.

With a world-class recording studio under construction for Fall of 2009, we are ecstatic about the significant advantage our students will have, to learn all that the world of recording has to offer. This facility will rival some of the best recording studios in Western Canada. The opportunities for you the student will be second to none.
COLLABORATE
At GPRC we have five different ensembles for the performing musician: Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, Electroacoustic Ensemble and Concert Choir. By rehearsing and performing alongside others, you will be inspired, challenged and motivated to explore musical genres while in a positive and exciting environment. You will develop camaraderie with fellow musicians that share the same passion for performing.

Most musicians are only happy when they are playing, singing, performing or at the controls in a recording studio. A career in music is a possibility with the right tools to pursue your dreams. Exploring the freedom to write, record, perform and practice while fine-tuning the skills needed is possible through mentoring from our highly skilled instructors. Our students develop the confidence needed to develop their potential in their chosen field of study. We have transfer agreements with other colleges and universities in Canada. Many of our students transfer into their 3rd year of study at the University of Alberta and the University of Lethbridge.

An artist looks at the world a little differently. Learning to express oneself is a journey and an adventure all at the same time. At GPRC, we will inspire, motivate and encourage you to explore the visual process through drawing, visual fundamentals, painting, sculpture, photography and design. Through several art history courses you will learn about the artists of today while appreciating the many influences from our past.

Small classroom sizes and one on one attention from instructors who are artists in their own right, will help you reach your utmost potential. Our newly transformed facilities provide opportunities for all types of visual art production. You will have access to drawing, painting and sculpture studios, photography labs, a large wellequipped woodshop, welding equipment, a kiln, audiovisual equipment, computer labs and a video-editing suite. Opportunities for growth abound with our Visitor in the Arts series that showcases important artists of our time who have succeeded in their specific disciplines. Your enthusiasm to perform will continue to motivate you as you seek out new challenges. There are many different careers available from working in live productions on stage to festivals and film, to directing and playwriting. Drama and performance students may pursue further studies towards a BA drama major or a BA/BEd (Drama), program as well as gain the skills necessary to audition for a BFA in Acting. For the technical theatre grad, the growing demand in the theatre and film industry may provide careers in lighting and sound, set and costume design, stage management and technical direction. Other graduates may further their studies at universities and film schools throughout Canada.
STUDENT LIFE As you travel down your creative path we will strive to provide you with a rich environment filled with studios, labs, and interesting working spaces, some of which are driven by technology and some of which are driven by the energy of your classmates.

You will perform. The Douglas Cardinal Performing Arts Centre, the Recital Hall, the Black Box, and the state of the art recording studio will be your venues. You will exhibit. The Glass Gallery, the Black Box, and various exhibitions throughout the community will be your showcase. You will be an audience. We bring in a wide variety of artists and performers every year to exhibit, perform, speak, and participate in workshops and master classes. Every spring, Fine Arts offers a travel study course. Interdisciplinary Topics in Culture is an exploration of masterworks and common practices, in the cultural history of European and American culture. In recent years we have traveled to London, Paris, Vienna, Prague and Venice. It is an amazing opportunity to see and experience firsthand some of the great wonders of the world.
