ECHOES OF AN ANCIENT PEACE Mary Parslow Stencil Monoprint | 9 x 12 | $250

1 2 3

When my feet touch the ground in the Peace region

and I pause long enough to deeply feel the land, I can perceive echoes of a bygone time. This ancient time

resonates in the form of images, impressions, scents and vibrations. This piece is a response to that experience.

WILD & SACRED II Sandy Troudt Acrylic | 14 x 18 | $450

The Muskwa窶適etchika Wilderness area, near Dead

Dog Creek, evokes memories of times spent in that beautiful, pristine wilderness area.

FALL TREES Cindy Vincent Oil on Canvas | 12 x 11.5 | $725

During Fall in the Peace River I have a favourite hiking spot located down by the Old Fort. The last leg of this downhill hike is the scene for Fall Trees. The amazing

colours of autumn never cease to inspire and amaze me.

QUALIFYING

OLD RELIC Penny Boden Acrylic | 36 x 36 | $975

I wonder what happened a long time ago? To wonder makes us human. Stories are concocted and they make more things to ponder.

SILHOUETTES Mike Kroecher Print | 15 x 8.5 | $250

Silhouettes is the result of a three-step printing process. The background, a collograph, was printed first. Then paper stencils were inked and printed, and finally, linoleum stencils were printed on top. I like using this process — the image is colourful and simple, yet sophisticated.

THE PEACE RIVER FLATS Mike Kroecher Oil | 24 x 48 | $250

This painting shows canola fields in bloom. The Peace River flows in the valley just behind the fields. The flats contain some of the best agricultural land we have in this province.

IMPRESSIONS OF TAYLOR BRIDGE Mary Parslow Stencil Monoprint | 12 x 9 | $250

Standing by the bridge at Taylor I am enveloped by a chaos of impressions: the sheer energy of water rushing under the bridge; the mix of colour, misty air, and pebbled rocks; the seemingly fragile metal bridge constructed to span the wild rush of water. This piece is a response to the experience.

FRAGILE, FIERCE BEAUTY Mary Parslow Linocut | 8 x 10 | $200

He came unheralded late one winter afternoon, a Saw-whet Owl. He sat on a tiny branch by the back door for at least 30 minutes unperturbed by our coming and going with the camera. He was watching us, but more especially, the clutch of chickadees at the bird feeder. We were riveted by his fragile and fierce beauty.

LOST IN THOUGHT Sandy Troudt Acrylic| 16 x 12 | $800

Someone else’s treasure?

ACCEPTED – CHAPTER

A BUNDLE OF BUNNIES Penny Boden Acrylic | 16 x 20 | $300

We should all weep for those who cannot see the hope and joy that any kind of baby animal can bring.

LONG WAIT Penny Boden Graphite | 11 x 8.5 | $3000

Some things in life have to be earned.

SPOOR SPAWN Miep Burgerjon Acrylic | 20 x 20 | $500

Playing with a palette knife in the underbrush, a wee mushroom slipped out of my paintbrush. Now the gnomes of Charlie Lake have another stool to perch upon!

BODEN Payge Fortier Oil on Canvas | 14 x 18| $800

ATHABASCA SUNSHINE Patricia Peters Acrylic| 20 x 16 | $775

Hiking along the river just north of Athabasca Falls I sat down and did a plein air sketch which resulted in this painting. It contrasts how small I felt to the towering strength of these amazing mountains.

SEPTEMBER 24 Louise Ruddell Acrylic| 10 x 20 | $225

The harvest is in, perhaps the first snow of the season looms.

MORNING BUOYS Suzanne Sandboe Watercolour| 18 x 23 | $900

I was immediately charmed by this scene along the west coast one early morning. The stillness and hazy landscape captivated this quaint fishing boat out for its morning catch.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH Suzanne Sandboe Watercolour| 22 x 30 | $2500

This painting catures a view up a rocky ridge, where expressive clouds billow down the mountain side, drawing one’s eye to the distant hills.

WAITING IN THE WEEDS Suzanne Sandboe Watercolour| 15 x 20 | $900

Waiting out in the field was this old rusty car begging for my paint brush to capture the colours of the rusty old fenders and weathered parts.

HARVEST LIGHT Sandy Troudt Acrylic| 18 x 24 | $600

The light on the bales in contrast to the dark, deep canyon in the far distance through which moose, elk, deer, wolves and coyotes roam and seek shelter, caught my eye. The contrast between the wild land and the tamed is the essence of the North Peace area that so often inspires me.

STANDING WATCH Sandy Troudt Acrylic| 14 x 18 | $450

Overlooking a summer field, these aspen steal the scene.

PINE GROSBEAK Cindy Vincent Etching| 4.25 x 5.75 | $525

Pine Grosbeak is an etching produced on a zinc plate. This time honored process is a technique that I have always wanted to pursue.

WINTER JEWELS Cindy Vincent Oil on MDF| 16 x 12 | $850

Winter Jewels was a joy to paint. The light filtering through the trees catching bits of snow, and twigs were like rare gems sparkling in the sun.

PEACE CONNECTIONS FCA’S NEWEST CHAPTER HOSTS SECOND EXHIBITION

The Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) was founded 70 years ago by a group of influential artists, including Group of Seven luminary, Lawren Harris. The FCA is a not-forprofit organization that shares and promotes the passion and pleasure of the visual arts through exhibition, education and communication. This prestigious organization provides many services that elevate artists and their art for all to appreciate. There are currently twelve chapters across Canada and abroad, with over 2000 members.

The Peace River Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists (PRCFCA) connects artists from as far north as Fort St. John, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek and Tumbler Ridge in B.C. to Beaverlodge, and as far away as Grande Prairie in Alberta. It took the collaboration and commitment of many to turn the vision of bringing a Federation chapter to the Peace Region into a reality. Although the PRCFCA is in its infancy, barely two years old, it’s off to a stellar start. The culture of our chapter is all about establishing connections among artists in our far-flung communities and to keep them strong.
