CEO´s Message Dear friend, No human activity can be as exciting as the calling to simultaneously alleviate the three most serious crises our society is facing namely: food security, energetic efficiency and environmental sustainability. In this spirit, AlgaEnergy´s mission is based on the photosynthetic phenomenon, a biological process which is essential to life on Earth and that microalgae have been carrying out for billions of years. Fostered by light energy, photosynthesis transforms inorganic compounds into organic matter, and our task is to optimize the process in order to obtain highly valuable products derived from this biomass for different sectors, including agriculture, aquaculture, cosmetics, nutrition, pharmaceuticals, and in the future, bioenergy. Worthy of mention is agriculture, a sector which has become a business line of priority for us. In fact, we can say that AlgaEnergy is currently the only company in the world with large scale microalgae cultivation capacity, which has decided to focus on developing the potential of microalgae applied to agriculture. This decision was made based on the extraordinary results obtained after ten years of R&D&I dedicated to the production and valorization of microalgae, giving rise to the AgriAlgae®, a unique and highly efficient biostimulant which is already being successfully marketed in numerous countries. With a raw material of unparalleled quality, derived from a selection of different microalgae strains combined in the adequate proportions, and the most advanced technologies and production processes, we can offer an innovative, effective and sustainable solution –the biostimulants AgriAlgae®–, which, when applied in small doses, not only helps to obtain greater yields and productivities, but also optimizes and improves the qualitative parameters and organoleptic properties, which translates into more profitable productions for farmers. And all of this is done with the utmost respect for the environment. In fact, in the current context in which final consumers are increasingly demanding products with a low carbon footprint, AlgaEnergy provides yet another competitive advantage, as it is the only company in the world that has consolidated the circular business model of using the CO2 emitted by other industries as the main nutrient for its microalgae in the cultivation phase. In this sense, farmers using AgriAlgae® are directly contributing to averting the emission of up to 2 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere for every 5 liters of AgriAlgae® they apply. 7. Affordable and non-polluting energy The microalgae will be the precursors of the 4th generation, clean and inexhaustible biofuels. They are an inexhaustible resource for the production of different types of biofuels, such as biodiesel or bioethanol. Having already achieved the technical viability of the inexhaustible biofuels of microalgae, the next step is to achieve economic viability, an objective for which it is essential to develop technology through continued R + D + i. 8. Decent work and economic growth Blue biotechnology is one of the sectors in which more added value is generated through the creation of employment, which allows generating quality jobs. For AlgaEnergy, a company committed to equality, inclusiveness, quality, stability and safety in the workplace, its team is its main asset. 9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure The immense potential for application of microalgae in various industries is still to be discovered, ranging from the production of biomaterials to their integration into sustainable architectures. In addition, the technology and production processes developed by AlgaEnergy –the most advanced in the world– take advantage of a large amount of CO2 emitted by other industries as the main nutrient for microalgae, in a circular economy model. 13. Action/Initiative for the Climate
2. Zero Hunger Microalgae are a renewable and inexhaustible resource, which also has the highest protein content on the planet. They do not compete with other food resources because they do not need agricultural land to be cultivated. They are also essential for the rearing of many species of fish and mollusks in the aquaculture industry. Finally, they are capable of considerably increasing the yields of the agricultural industry. 3. Health and Wellbeing Microalgae have an elevated content of high-value 100% natural origin compounds with immense potential for application in human nutrition and the pharmaceutical industry. Also known as phytoplankton, they are the origin of omega-3 fatty acids, and contain all kinds of vitamins and natural antioxidants that improve the life of those who consume them. 6. Clean water and sanitation The wastewater treatment processes through the cultivation of microalgae as fixers of heavy metals and other compounds, are a very promising circular alternative from the economic and environmental point of view, in comparison to their aerobic and anaerobic counterparts.

Microalgae are the most efficient CO2 biofixation systems on the planet, capturing up to 2 kg of CO2 per kg of biomass produced. The microalgae that live in all aquatic ecosystems are the largest producers of oxygen on the planet. They appeared billions of years ago and changed the atmosphere. According to data from NASA, they directly produce more than 50% of the oxygen that exists on the planet, however, as precursors of all plant life, they are also indirectly responsible for the rest of the existing oxygen worldwide. 14. Marine life Microalgae, also called phytoplankton, are the basis of the trophic chain in the aquatic environment, hence of all sea life. In addition, they are essential to increasing production in the aquaculture industry, which is presented as the only solution to stop the exploitation from excessive fishing that threatens the survival of numerous fish species. 15. Life of terrestrial ecosystems Unlike what happens with other human activities that are causing deforestation and desertification, the cultivation of microalgae does not require a large area or fertile land. In addition, it does not use natural resources that can alter the proper functioning of ecosystems, nor generate any environmental impact because its production is totally controlled. Also, microalgae are the first colonizers of the deserts and the precursors of all plant life, so AlgaEnergy is convinced that they will play an important role in the recovery of soil quality.

What can microalgae offer in agriculture? We not only owe our lives to these microorganisms –as they provide us with more than 50% of the oxygen that exists on our planet– they are going to improve our lives within the next few years. Microalgae offer a number of benefits and applications in very different sectors, such as the agriculture. Concerning the latter, following 8 years of research and development, we have discovered that microalgae offer benefits that did not exist in the agricultural product market until now. Just a single cell, precursor of all plant-based life on Earth, can bring all of the compounds and tools a plant needs for optimal development. This is why the biostimulant range AgriAlgae® is highly effective and gets tremendous results when applied in just small doses. Our biostimulants have been enhanced by combining biomass from different microalgae in just the right proportions.
How does AgriAlgae® help farmers with the environmental factor?? AlgaEnergy is the only company in the world which has consolidated a circular business model by using the CO2 emitted by other industries as the main nutrient of microalgae in the cultivation phase. Therefore, one added benefit of using AgriAlgae® is that farmers are helping to prevent the emission of 2 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere per each 5 litres of product applied. I. Microalgae 1. What it is made from? It is 100% made from an intact high quality biomass of microalgae. AgriAlgae® combines different microalgae strains, selected and cultivated by AlgaEnergy at its own facilities with the most advanced technologies, which have been developed by the company. Therefore, it is not an extract formulation produced with the waste from other industries, since the high quality microalgal biomass developed by AlgaEnergy is integrally used to obtain AgriAlgae®.
2. What are microalgae? They are microscopic plant organisms present in any kind of water. We actually owe them our lives, because according to data from NASA, they are responsible for over 50% of the oxygen present in the atmosphere. Unlike animals, large plants or seaweed (macroalgae), which are only present in one realm of nature, microalgae are present in most realms –all of them except the animal one-, and offer therefore an unparalleled biodiversity. Nobody knows how many different microalgae species do really exist (the most conservative figure is around 60 thousand species), but in general terms, they have a very rich biochemical composition. In fact, they are the organisms with the greatest protein content on earth (from 40-65% of their dry weight), being also the original source of Omega-3 fatty acids, and offering a full range of plant hormones. In fact, these single-cell organisms that appeared billions of years ago and changed our atmosphere, are the precursors of all plant based life on Earth. Last but not least, they are the most efficient CO2 biofixation system in the planet, which is why they have an important role to contribute in palliating the climate change.
II. AgriAlgae® 3. Are microalgae alive? No, microalgae are no longer alive in the finished product. Once harvested, they are subjected to a strictly controlled process (UPT® technology) which guarantees that all the interesting molecules for plant organisms are maintained in AgriAlgae®, hence averting any kind of degradation. The result is an optimized, highly efficient and innovative product, made of microalgal biomass.
4. What their composition? They contain all the molecules that regulate any plant’s growth and development: all the essential L-amino acids, plant hormones, micronutrients, peptides, lipids, polysaccharides, vitamins, antioxidants and pigments.
5. What is a biostimulant? A biostimulant is a functional substance that generates great results when applied in small doses. Biostimulants promote the growth and the development of plants, optimizing their physiological processes and stimulating their immune system. There are many sorts of biostimulants: animal, plant or bacterial, organic or non-organic, acting within the plant or in its immediate environment, etc. AgriAlgae® is a plant-based 100% microalgae-derived biostimulant, making it is singular, innovative, sustainable, natural, and above all, vastly effective..

6. Is it a fertilizer? No, it is not a fertilizer. The main function of AgriAlgae® is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of fertilization, facilitating the nutrients uptake, assimilation and transport of nutrients. Although you can probably save on fertilizers, they must never be replaced by biostimulants because they work in synergy. AgriAlgae® is therefore a complementary product to traditional fertilizers which, applied in small doses, provides significant results, factually improving the nutritional development and consequently the final yield.
7. How does it differ from fertilizers? Biostimulants work through different channels from those that are used by fertilizers. AgriAlgae® basically acts to regulate and optimize the metabolic and physiological processes of plant organisms. It facilitates the assimilation and transport of nutrients from the roots to those organs where they are greatly needed. In summary, it stimulates and catalyses the development processes of individual plants.
8. Does it replace fertilization? No, it is not a substitute for fertilizers, although it is a perfect complement, as it increases their efficiency and therefore the yields. We could say that, while the fertilization provides the nutrients, AgriAlgae® provides the essential tools that any plant needs to maximize the efficiency of those nutrients.
9. Is it compatible with foliar fertilization and/or fertigation? Can you mix it with K, Cu or other nutrients? AgriAlgae® is compatible with any other product, including any fertilizer, macro- or micronutrient, and can be applied both, foliar and over the soil. In addition, it notably improves the penetration and absorption of nutrients.
10. What differentiates it from other products with amino acids? It differs in several aspects: composition, proportion and quality of amino acids.
Composition: There are 20 essential amino acids any plant needs. AgriAlgae® contains all of them. Proportion of amino acids: Each amino acid has a specific essential function. It is therefore important that the plant has all of them at its disposal. However, it is equally important that the proportion of each amino acid is adequately balanced, allowing the development and growth of the plant. On top of that, considering that the amino acids contained in AgriAlgae® are obtained from microalgae, which are exponentially growing plant organisms, the proportion of amino acids in AgriAlgae® is ideal for promoting growth. Quality of amino acids: There are amino acids in L form and D form. In nature, all amino acids are always found in L form. In AgriAlgae®, all amino acids are L-amino acids, as found in nature, which is the functional form recognized by plants as a physiologically active molecule. Amino acids in D form are organic matter, but do not have a physiological function for a plant, and they arise as result of some aggressive production processes (such as acidic or alkaline hydrolysis). Therefore, it is always best to use L-amino acids, particularly in stone fruits, in which D-amino acids can even result phytotoxic.
It is also important to note that the composition of AgriAlgae® also contains other valuable molecules present in microalgae, including a wide range of plant hormones, micronutrients, polysaccharides, vitamins, pigments, antioxidants, etc. Therefore, AgriAlgae® is not comparable with other products containing amino acids.
11. What differentiates AgriAlgae® from known products based on seaweed (macroalgae)? There are seaweeds (macroalgae), like those found on the beach, and microalgae, which are imperceptible to the human eye. While seaweed are found just in one realm, microalgae are present across all realms of nature with the exception of the animal one. They are single cell organisms, and are the precursors of all plant based life on Earth. In this sense, AgriAlgae® differs from products based on seaweeds (Ascophyllum, Kelp, etc.) in origin, composition and quality.
Origin: While seaweeds are “fished” at the coasts without any control over its growth, particularly on the quality and homogenization, AlgaEnergy grows its own microalgae in state of the art photobioreactors, using complex software systems and solenoid valves, controlling all variables that influence the biochemical composition and quality of the microalgae (e.g. temperatures, nutrients, pH, CO2, etc.) throughout the whole process. In this sense, AlgaEnergy has no dependence on external factors and can guarantee the quality of the final product, and moreover, its homogeneity.
Composition: Biostimulants based on seaweed determine their effectiveness on polysaccharides, as well as some small amounts of some plant hormones. They do not have a significant amount of proteins. In contrast,

AgriAlgae® contains all essential amino acids, pigments, vitamins, antioxidants, etc., besides polysaccharides and a high content and wide range of phytohormones. AgriAlgae® is therefore based on a much richer raw material.
Quality: In addition to the fact that seaweeds are collected from the coasts and that microalgae are cultivated while controlling all kind of parameters, as well as the different biochemical compositions of these raw materials, it is also noteworthy that seaweed products usually are a sub-product from other industries, which are elaborated based on the waste of these industries. This means that once seaweed has been harvested, it is submitted to the extractions of compounds of interest for human nutrition, and the final waste is used to produce biostimulants. As one can imagine, during this process, there are some compounds that are extracted, but other interesting ones are degraded as well. However, in the case of AgriAlgae® , AlgaEnergy allocates 100% of the high quality microalgal biomass to the development of the product, keeping all the compounds of interest in the form of functional molecules. To ensure the integrity of these molecules of interest, AlgaEnergy has developed the UPT® technology, that makes it possible to obtain this high-value product based on a premium raw material.
12. Is it compatible to apply with phytosanitary products? AgriAlgae® is compatible with any phytosanitary product. Moreover, it has wetting properties and provides a carrier effect, promoting the effectiveness of the active ingredients. In addition, aggressive phytosanitary treatments cause stress to the plants which results in a physiological stoppage, and AgriAlgae® accelerates the plant’s recovery from this provoked stress.
13. What effect does it provide against abiotic stress? Due to the climatic changes, chemical and phytosanitary treatments, intense exploitation, uptake of nutrients, phenological changes and many other factors plants must face during its physiological development, they are subjected to a continuous abiotic stress. In this sense, with the resources they have available, they must synthetize the essential molecules they need to overcome the abovementioned challenges. AgriAlgae® provides all these essential tools to the plants, and reinforces their immune system, considerably lowering the incidence of any kind of abiotic stress, and accelerating the plants’ recovery.
14. Is its application compatible with microorganisms? There are no incompatibilities; in fact, symbiotic synergies that benefit the plants can even appear. However, since microorganisms are living organisms that interact with the environment, you should not apply them in the same area simultaneously. The recommendation is to alter applications.
III. Application 15. How much do we need to apply per hectare? The consumption is between 5 to 7 litres per hectare per application, and the general recommendation goes from 3 to 5 applications per cycle, depending on the type of crop, the intensity, the planting, etc. Do not hesitate to reach out to us for a detailed recommendation.
16. How is it applied? AgriAlgae® can be applied both, foliar or to the soil. It is compatible with all fertigation and spraying systems. The general recommended application root dose is between 5 to 7 litres of product per hectare. The dilution rate in case of foliar applications is 0.3-0.5% (3 to 5 litres of product in 1000 litres of water), depending on the type of crop and culturing method. 17. When should it be applied? AgriAlgae® can be applied throughout the full cycle of the crop. Its greatest benefits are obtained prior to a situation of high metabolic activity (sprouting, flowering, fruit setting, fruit development, ripening, etc.), or as a preventive or therapeutic treatment application in order to boost the resilience and the recovery from stressful situations.

18. What application is better, leaf or root? None is better than the other one, they are all different. With the foliar application the response time is quicker, but the duration of its effects is shorter. On the contrary, with the soil application, the reaction period is not as fast, but the duration of the effects is longer. It is therefore recommended to alternate the application methods, depending on the phenological state. If you want to achieve a persistence over time through foliar applications, it is recommended to repeat the application every 2 or 3 weeks. 19. Should you complete one application or more? It is advisable to apply Agrialgae速 several times throughout the crop cycle, from 3 to 5 times depending on the type of application and the crop, amongst other variables. From a technical and non-economic perspective, it is always preferable to carry out more applications even in lower doses, than to apply greater doses in less number of applications.
20. When does it expire? When it is properly stored, i.e. not exposed to extreme temperatures, the product lasts two years.
21. In what format is it available? There are four product lines: one for foliar applications, one for applications over the soil, one organic version optimized for any kind of applications, and one premium range optimized for each phenological phase. The product is available in 1l bottles, 5l jerrycans, 20l drums and 1000l IBC containers. In addition, there is a whole range of AgriAlgae速 biostimulant, enriched with various micro and macronutrients, all of them sharing the same basis: an optimized combination of microalgae as the main active ingredient.
22. W hat is the size of the molecules contained in AgriAlgae速 ? The size of the molecules that are present in AgriAlgae速 is well below the range of microns, avoiding any problem with spray nozzles or drippers. Moreover, as it is a slightly acidic product, it can help to loosen irrigation systems and dissolve lime.
23. What is the ideal pH? The pH of the packaged product is between 3.6 and 3.8.
24. Does it have a grace or security period? It has no grace period because it is a completely harmless natural product, 100% plant based.

26. In which kind of crops is it applicable? AgriAlgae® can be used in all kinds of crops: horticultural crops, fruit trees, olive trees, citrus, arable crops and cereals, etc. The reason it is useful for any crop is that it is not just a nutrient, but also an essential tool needed by any plant organism and will help it to uptake the nutrients provided by the basic fertilization.
27. Is the foliar application better? How does the product work on the leaf?
Neither application method is better or worse, they are different. When applying to the leaf, the response time is reduced and the results are accelerated, but the duration of effect is also shortened. On the contrary, when applying to the soil, the effect takes longer, but its effect duration is greater. While the foliar absorption is via stomata and leaf cuticle, the soil nutrients uptake is mainly done through the root hairs. In both cases, the absorption of nutrients is carried out by mechanisms that regulate the input and output elements. However, in the case of root absorption, nutrients must be transported to other organs of the plant, which are sometimes far away from the roots. For this reason foliar application has a more immediate action.
28. What are the effects on the ground when applying AgriAlgae®? In addition to the effects within the plant, AgriAlgae® is a product with a high quality organic matter, which also improves the soil´s physicochemical properties increasing the capacity to hold water and nutrients. It favors cation exchange between the ground and plant, and boosts the assimilation of nutrients.

29. Are its effect immediate? The foliar application effect is faster, the effects are noticeable within a few days. This makes the foliar application ideal for a therapeutic treatment after a stressful situation.
30. Does it affect the taste of the fruits & vegetables? It does not alter the taste as an external variable, however, its taste might be boosted, since the processes of maturation and synthesis of sugars are optimized, achieving better-quality fruits. If the plant has the tools it needs to enhance its development and maximize the efficiency of its metabolic processes, it will be able to develop more homogeneous fruits, making a better use of its own resources, which ultimately results in fruits of better quality: better flavor, better color, higher caliber, etc. Several blind tastings have been conducted by independent official institutions, which are available, and in which the fruits harvested using AgriAlgae® have obtained the highest scores compared to other biostimulant products and the control treatments.
31. Does it affect wildlife? It does not affect wildlife. There are any traces or incompatibilities. It is a 100% vegetative and harmless product.
32. Do phytohormones anticipate the entry of production? AgriAlgae® does not alter the natural rhythms of crops. AgriAlgae® helps the plant to make their internal processes more efficient, improves the use of resources to achieve higher rates of flowering, fruit setting and production, and increases crop yields.
33. Is there any effect in case of an excessive application of AgriAlgae®? There are no negative effects by applying high doses. This is because it is a sustainable natural product, and it is 100% plant based. In case of an excessive application, it will always imply a contribution of organic matter of the highest quality and functional components. Therefore, any application in excess will at least improve the soil’s microbial quality.
34. How does the product perform in case of frost? It preventively helps to avoid freezing and withstands the frost because it facilitates mobility and accumulation of minerals in the different organs of the plant, thus lowering the freezing temperature. Therapeutically, AgriAlgae® helps to overcome the injuries caused by frost, restoring the physiological functions of the affected organ, as long as it is has not been a black frost.
35. Does AgriAlgae® cause irrigation drips? It does not clog the drippers nor sprayers. This is due to its acid pH that prevents calcium deposited on the drippers / spray nozzles. Moreover, AgriAlgae® may even help to dissolve the concretions of calcium carbonate, if there are any. It can remove existing scabs.
36. Does AgriAlgae® stain leaves and impair photosynthesis? AgriAlgae®, when freshly applied, leaves small visible drops of product, but these disappear as the product is assimilated by the leaf. It favors photosynthesis and other functions of the leaves (water regulation, gas exchange). Moreover, it is demonstrated that AgriAlgae® increases chlorophyll content and therefore promotes photosynthetic capacity.

V. Economic benefits First of all, it is worth mentioning that the usage of AgriAlgae® does not imply a great economic expenditure, since the product quantities needed to achieve an effective treatment are reduced, providing considerable results in small concentrations. To be more specific, the average use is around 5 litres per hectare and per application, and between 3-5 applications per cycle, depending on the crop. In addition, it is already a proven fact that AgriAlgae® provides greater yields and performance, not only in terms of kilograms per hectare, but also a better quality of each kilogram, which will imply increasing revenues due to a larger willan at least slight increase in its selling price. VI. Environment AgriAlgae® is a sustainable product, which is friendly to the environment. As a matter of fact, it contributes to the elimination of the noxious gas CO2 from the atmosphere, associated with the climate change. As highlighted before, AgriAlgae® is a biostimulant obtained from microalgae biomass. In this scope, worth mentioning that the gas CO2 is the main nutrient of microalgae, and in fact, in order to produce 1 kg of microalgae biomass, 2

AlgaEnergy participated in 2018 at the most relevant Spanish and international fairs in the agrifood sector. AlgaEnergy and Yokogawa sign strategic partnership and equity agreement to accelerate growth of the microalgae biotech sector
AlgaEnergy and Yokogawa Electric Corporation, a leading provider of industrial automation, control, and measurement technology, announce the signing of a partnership & equity participation agreement. The strategic agreement involves an approximately 10 million euros investment by Yokogawa to acquire newly issued shares of AlgaEnergy, making the Japanese company a reference shareholder. The entry of Yokogawa as a shareholder will enable AlgaEnergy to reinforce its position of international leadership. However, the scope of the agreement extends beyond just financial investment. The two companies, which share strong synergies and a common vision, seek to build an industry-leading partnership in the microalgae biotechnology sector worldwide by collaborating in the areas of R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and sales.
AlgaEnergy opens in Japan its first subsidiary abroad
AlgaEnergy is immersed in its internationalization phase. On the one hand, through the signing of agreements with leading partners who are leaders in their respective countries. Currently, the company is exporting its innovative solutions to more than 20 countries. On the other hand, AlgaEnergy is promoting its internationalization plans with the opening in Japan of its first subsidiary abroad Spain. With the creation of this subsidiary, materialized on the 1st of June, the biotechnology company wants to guarantee a strong structure from which it will be able to operate in the Asian markets. The opening of this first subsidiary has been followed by the establishment of subsidiaries in Italy, US and India, among other markets.

AlgaEnergy continues to arouse great interest among the specialized and general media. On television, it has been the focus of interesting reports broadcasted on RTVE and La Sexta, among others. On the radio, the most important programs in offering agricultural information have shown interest in AgriAlgae® and have dedicated outstanding time to the product. In the written and online media, AgriAlgae® is more and more present as an excellent proof of the interest it is generating in the market this innovative biostimulants. 2018, a great year for AgriAlgae® 2018 was a great year for AlgaEnergy. The agricultural range of biostimulants AgriAlgae® added two important awards to its long list of prizes.
