Dear Valued Customer, Despite only being a few weeks into January, the news on the High Street hasn’t exactly got off to a good start and continues to be gloomy. In stark contrast to that; Land Rover has yet again had a record sales year and here at Hillendale we delivered 473 new cars during 2012 which was our largest volume since 2007; the team and I would very much like to thank you for supporting us. January is already off to a great start with the introduction of the 13MY Freelander which has many new features including electronic park brake for the first time and the new Special Edition Freelander Black & White at an unbelievable £22,495. The Special Edition Range Rover Sport Black Edition is bound to attract attention and we are delighted to welcome The All New Range Rover to our showroom, as it officially went on sale on the 10th January 2013. All these cars feature heavily in this edition of Trailblazer. 2012 leaves us with many memories; from the numerous good causes your business with us allowed us to support; to us looking quite ridiculous all growing moustaches during Movember and to the numerous awards we won; not least for Outstanding Customer Service. OPERATION FIRECREST TACKLING RURAL CRIME IN LANCASHIRE Lancashire Constabulary recently conducted Operation Firecrest aimed at targeting rural crime in Lancashire. To achieve this a suitable vehicle was needed and PC Mark Dibb of The Barrowford Neighbourhood Policing Team approached Hillendale in the hope of borrowing a 4x4 vehicle to assist in the operation. We were of course only too happy to provide our support to the initiative loaning a Land Rover Defender for them to use for a week. PC Dibb and his team used the vehicle to its full effect providing them with access to areas in Pendle which were otherwise extremely remote and inaccessible. Police stop-checked 688 vehicles, seizing six of them and made 16 arrests for a variety of offences including theft from rural buildings and poaching during the crackdown. Property valued at almost £16,000 was recovered plus officers made 161 crime

prevention visits to farms and other rural properties, produced a special farm watch crime prevention video and signed up dozens of new members to rural watch schemes ensuring that the fight against rural crime continues long after the week of targeted action. We hope to continue supporting local policing initiatives and are proud to be involved in the crack down on rural crime in the area.

MARIAM ASLAM
Glyn joined our ever expanding sales team in September as a sales specialist and with over 20 years of experience in the Motor Trade, Glyn is certainly the right man for the job.
Mariam joined the Hillendale Group through our Marketing Company, Image Red, back in November 2011. For Mariam as an English graduate, it was an exciting opportunity to start her career within a successful marketing company, and this gave her an excellent introduction to the workplace following university life.
Having initially started his career as an assistant accountant, Glyn soon realised he didn’t just want to be sat behind a desk but instead wanted to actively get involved with customers on a day to day basis. He started his sales career as a trainee salesman at a Ford dealership working his way up to Sales Manager and has been working in the motor trade ever since. With a genuine passion for cars, Glyn was only too familiar with the Land Rover brand and the success it has experienced in recent years and so in his own words, ‘working for an independent company with a genuine love for the brand and its customers was an opportunity too good to pass up’.

In Pursuit of Excellence An Evening with Jamie Cullum An evening with Jazz Superstar Jamie Cullen was the top prize won by Sales Manager Mark Holden and his lovely wife Jemma, for him leading the Hillendale Sales Team to the top of the Land Rover National Sales League in Quarter 3 last year. The results were drawn from various measures including overall sales performance; and customer service and efficiency scores in a mystery shop environment.
Jamie Cullen performed exclusively for the Land Rover team and winners of the ‘In Pursuit of Excellence Campaign’ at the iconic May Fair Hotel in London, where Mark and Jemma enjoyed a truly memorable evening.
A great achievement for the Hillendale Sales Team – well done.
On a recent training course at the Land Rover Experience centre in Malvern, Glyn was able to test drive the model range in an off-road environment and with his love of all things F1 and British touring cars, he thoroughly enjoyed learning about the vehicles as well as driving them through mud, muck and water. Outside of work Glyn has 3 children, all grown up and enjoys dining out with his partner Helen and weekends away in the country. With a genuine desire for the brand and a great understanding of customer requirements Glyn is looking forward to the new challenges of this role and hopes to be here for years to come. We wish him all the best as he puts his experience into practice.
Her role as sales administrator provided a solid grounding in marketing where she gained a real passion for working with clients to manage all their marketing requirements. Having worked her way up into client management it was only fitting that when the position became available within Hillendale Land Rover for the role of Group Marketing Executive she jumped at the chance. Still working closely with the team at Image Red, Mariam is keen to learn new skills and has already attended Land Rover training to help with her product knowledge. Some of Mariam’s daily tasks now include planning advertising for the dealership, updating content on the Hillendale websites as well as social media, writing content for Trailblazer and looking after the Hillendale customer database. Out of work, Mariam is a keen guitarist who loves to gig and has a vintage vinyl collection to be envied. On the weekends that she’s not at a gig, a devoted Manchester United fan she can often be found cheering the team at Old Trafford. She is also an avid traveller and aims to visit a European City each month, having already travelled to Oslo, Edinburgh, London, Barcelona, Paris and the Christmas markets of Berlin since July last year! MOVEMBER: Hillendale Hair’ies raise a hair raising amount for Movember
Rudolph comes to Hillendale
As the month of Movember approached, the team at Hillendale pledged to help raise much needed awareness and funds in aid of men’s health. Having started the first of the month clean shaven, the ‘Hillendale Hair’ies’ began to cultivate and groom their moustaches throughout November, providing entertainment for staff and customers alike.
Getting into the Spirit of Christmas, we decided to go all out this year on our festive themed showroom. We had a giant Santa hat sitting on top of a Range Rover Evoque, a Range Rover Sport decked out with our staff as Snowmen/ women and the main attraction was our Freelander Sleigh being pulled by - yes you guessed it - our very own Hillendale Reindeer. (No animals were harmed in the making of our showroom).
Needless to say they became rather attached to their new facial friends (or so
we’d like to think) but as the month drew to a close they seemed quite relieved to rid themselves of the weird and wonderful moustaches they had grown. We managed to raise a fantastic £2,000 in aid of this great cause; a massive achievement and we’re extremely proud of all their efforts. Thank you to everyone for their kind support.
To add to the festive spirit we decided to run a fantastic competition to win an iPad mini with the compliments of Hillendale. To be in with a chance of winning all you had to do was take some pictures of yourself as Santa in our Freelander sleigh. These were then posted to Facebook adding the location as Hillendale and the pictures with the most likes would be crowned our winner. We are now pleased to announce that the picture with the most likes was Mrs Claire Holt Owner of Flash Bang Science Ltd and a valued Hillendale customer. Congratulations to our winner; we hope you’re enjoying your prize.
Donations to local food bank in Nelson As we prepared for the Christmas festivities in December it wasn’t without thought to those less fortunate. In support of Councillor Ansar and local Brownies and Beavers to increase donations to the local food bank in Nelson, we decided to set up a collection box calling for staff and customers alike to donate any imperishable foods to the dealership.

We had a great response in support of this initiative and Hillendale contributed a further £500 of food and goodies in addition to what was collected. We jam-packed a Discovery 4 with tins, pasta, rice, canned meats, soups and a quite a few special treats and delivered it all to the Food Bank in good time for Christmas. We know everything will have found a good home. We hope our efforts made the Christmas celebrations a little better for some families and hope to continue our support of the local food bank in the future.
YOUNG CARERS AT THE PANTO A Christmas to Remember! With the support of our friends at local coach company Moving People, and courtesy of Hillendale, 48 Young Carers from Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale took an early Christmas trip to Manchester to see Peter Pan at The Opera House. En route to Manchester the youngsters stopped off at Pizza Hut where we provided pizza’s and pasta before the performance, as well as Christmas gifts for everyone kindly donated by Moving People. We sincerely hope this has been a Christmas to remember for these great young people.

MEET THE CUSTOMER Major Hamish Cole
When deciding who we could feature as our ‘Meet the Customer’ going into 2013, our decision was easy; Major Hamish Cole, a true Land Rover enthusiast has become quite a familiar face in and around the dealership with an appreciation and passion for the brand and the vehicles second only to our own. As a child, Major Cole remembers his first contact with a Land Rover at the Royal Highland Show in the 1960’s becoming captivated by the capability of a vehicle being used like a tractor to power farm implements. It wasn’t however until Major Cole started Military Service that he found himself surrounded by a wide selection of Land Rovers from defensive to offensive vehicles in a variety of conditions and countries. During this time the family owned a selection of Land Rovers including an original Defender 90, a Discovery V8, several P38 Range Rovers before settling with his current vehicle a L322 Range Rover purchased in 2002 - you could go as far as saying that Land Rovers have served their true purpose in the hands of Major Cole. His current vehicle, a Range Rover, is a true workhorse. This is no pampered vehicle, having travelled throughout the UK and Europe across various MOD ranges, on various shooting and fishing trips, and to remote no ‘Home Start Recovery’ zones where it has always performed as designed. Upgraded with a new digital TV and DAB radio it also boasts iPod connectivity and a hard drive for his PC alongside a newly purchased tent annexe for any weekend trips away. This vehicle is a true representation of the capabilities of Land Rover – It does what it was designed to do and is harnessed to fit the individuals lifestyle.

Currently Major Cole works as a Community Nurse covering rural Lancashire and the Range Rover guarantees that he is able to get to his calls no matter what Mother Nature intends. As a valued customer, Major Cole often pops in for a coffee always with a story to tell and we’re always happy to welcome him into the dealership.
