Bull and Oyster Roast
“ Don’t Miss the Bus! ”
Welcome to the Maryvale Bull & Oyster Roast, What a fabulous Maryvale tradition our Sports Boosters have started! In its fourth year, the Maryvale Bull & Oyster has become a fast favorite. If you are a newcomer to this fabulous event, you will see why. To our many loyal Maryvale event-goers, this year’s Roast is better than ever thanks to the combined efforts of the Sports Boosters and the Alumnae Association. I want to thank Stacy McAleer, Dana Rampolla and the many volunteer leaders who have worked so tirelessly to provide such a fun evening for us all to enjoy. The bulk of the proceeds from tonight's event will be directed as a lead gift toward a much needed small bus or van to transport students to athletic, arts and community service events. The remainder of the proceeds will be used toward the new Anne McCloskey Scholar Athlete award. So, please play those wheels, bid high on auction items and roll the dice with our raffles. Our girls will be the direct beneficiaries of your generosity. Winter season has just begun, so plan to come out to cheer on our indoor track and field and basketball teams. Go Lions! Thank you, most sincerely, for your support. Gratefully, Tracey Tracey H. Ford President Maryvale Preparatory School
Dear Friends of Maryvale, On behalf of Maryvale’s Athletic Department, I would like to thank you for your continued support of Maryvale Athletics. By encouraging your daughter to participate in our programs, by attending events, games and meets, and by modeling good sportsmanship to your children, you, too, are an integral part of Maryvale Athletics. We are looking forward to the huge success of the Bull Roast this year, and we are happy so many have chosen to support our athletic endeavors. I would like to offer a special thanks to Sports Boosters and the Alumnae Association for all of the hard work to make this event a success! Let’s go Lions!!! Sincerely, Terri Moeser Maryvale Athletic Director
Dear Friends of Maryvale, On behalf of Maryvale Sports Boosters, I would like to extend warm and heartfelt thanks to a number of people who have supported this year’s fourth annual Bull Roast. Firstly, welcome and thanks to all of our wonderful attendees! Without your support and presence, the event would not be the success that we are witnessing tonight. It is great to see so many familiar faces, and welcome those of you who have joined us for the first time this evening. It is so exciting to celebrate the growth of our Maryvale circle! Secondly, I would like to extend a great big Maryvale Lion’s “roar” to all of the wonderful businesses and donors who have contributed to the success of this evening. It is through your generosity that we are able to host such a fantastic auction. In return, we encourage all of our attendees to support the establishments that have agreed to be our partners in our endeavor to raise money for the Maryvale Athletic Program. And lastly, I would be remiss if I did not thank each of you who has volunteered to help bring our event to fruition. From making phone calls and asking for donations to setting up and organizing event details, your efforts are greatly appreciated. Sports Boosters is excited to donate the proceeds from this fabulous event to the NEW Anne McCloskey Scholar Athlete Award and our “Don’t Miss the Bus!” fund. As our Maryvale programs continue to evolve and grow, it has been a challenge transporting students to off-campus activities and sporting practices and games. The bulk of the proceeds from this year’s Bull Roast will go toward the purchase of a mini-bus or van to help alleviate some transportation obstacles not only for athletics, but also for Maryvale Arts and Community Service Activities. With gratitude for supporting Sports Boosters, Stacy McAleer, President

New Anne McCloskey Scholar Athlete Award Anne McCloskey joined the faculty at Maryvale in 1961 as Maryvale’s second Athletic Director. Mrs. McCloskey coached JV and varsity field hockey, basketball and lacrosse and was the gym teacher for grades 1-12. In this age of specialization, it is hard to believe that one person wore so many hats. Mrs. McCloskey was a great role model for girls growing up in the 1960s who were not fully aware of all the choices they had. This was pre-Title 9. There were no leagues, no team records, little or no newspaper coverage and no college scholarships for female athletes. The teams at Maryvale were competitive and always a strong challenge to their opponents. Mrs. McCloskey’s teams won many games. But the most important things she taught were the fundamentals. She was nationally known for teaching basic skills. Even on the college level, opposing coaches could spot a player who had been taught by Mrs. McCloskey. It was well known that she was a good coach, but as everyone remembers, she insisted that her athletes play like ladies. There was no gum chewing, and team uniforms had to be clean and neatly pressed. Mrs. McCloskey found the balance between being a well-respected teacher and one that students admired. The girls had fun in her classes, but they knew she meant business. In 1975, Mrs. McCloskey left Maryvale to become the Assistant Athletic Director at Loyola University Maryland, where she was responsible for the development of the women’s athletic program. She also coached field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. Later as Director of Recreational Programs at Loyola, Mrs. McCloskey directed the intramural program, club sports, fitness centers and Lifetime Sports Program as well as field hockey and lacrosse camps. Tonight, Sports Boosters is pleased welcome Mrs. McCloskey as we announce the establishment of the Anne McCloskey Scholar Athlete Award.
Auction Procedures The silent auction will close promptly at 10 p.m. as defined below: 1.
The opening bid on each item must be at least the minimum price listed.
2.
Each subsequent raise must follow the increment listed. Any bids not adhering to this format will be declared invalid and voided.
3.
If a name is crossed out, that bid will be considered null.
4.
There is no “upper limit” for your bids! If the bid sheet is full, please turn it around and continue on the back or request a second sheet from a Silent Auction Volunteer continuing to adhere to the increment set for the item.
5.
Once the auction is declared closed, the last bid entered on the bid sheet that adheres to the designated increment shall constitute the winning bid and will be so marked. The Auction Committee will mediate any disputes among bidders and that determination shall be final.
6.
Invoices will be prepared shortly after the closing of the Silent Auction. This process may take anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes. Please be patient!
7.
The list of winners will be posted in the Silent Auction area and invoices will be available at the “Silent Auction Checkout Table.” The cashier will ask for your ID and item number. Once your payment has been processed, please take your paid invoice to the Silent Auction Coordinator, who will retrieve your item.
8.
Auction item purchases are final. No returns or exchanges will be issued, nor is it possible for expiration dates to be extended. All provisions listed in the certificates are subject to availability.
9.
Auction item purchases are tax-deductible only if the winning bid exceeds the fair market value of the item (listed on the invoice). The tax-deductible amount is the winning bid minus the fair market value.
10. Neither Maryvale Sports Boosters nor Maryvale Preparatory School provides any guarantees, warranties or servicing of auction items and is not liable for any personal injury or damage to property that may result from the use of the item or service sold. 11.
