Sew and Tell is an exhibition of clothing items and textile works produced by students from Stevenson House where teacher Elizabeth Charlton teaches children’s sewing classes. Having learnt a variety of sewing techniques over a period of months, the participants aged 10 to 12 have evidenced their development by creating fashionable dressing gowns and pyjamas, onesies, pants, floral and formal dresses. The exhibition is presented as part of Neighbourhood House Week, a nationwide celebration of the role of Neighbourhood Houses that help people connect, learn, and contribute in their local community.

Elizabeth Charlton said, “My greatest pleasure has been to share my sewing passion with these girls who are learning to sew in the kids sewing class.” Lyn Harding, Melton City Council’s Neighbourhood Programs Officer, explained, “Neighbourhood Houses are great places to learn something new, meet other people and work together as a community of people. Sew and Tell encompasses all this, where children have come to learn a new skill; all the children come from different schools within the community to meet other children and this exhibition gives them an opportunity to work together on a project. This exhibition forms part of the celebration of Neighbourhood House Week from 8 May – 12 May.”
