Kangen Water
Change Your Water...Change Your Life Do you know that the human body is over 70% water? Have you ever considered that the type of water you drink, could have the power to change your health - completely? No one would think of putting diesel fuel into a petrol engine, would they? Why then do they do the same with their bodies and expect a good outcome? Ask yourself why the incidence of critical diseases continues to rise when medical science is advancing daily. We're doing something wrong, and most of us don't know what that is! There's an answer.

WHAT DOES THE NEW YEAR MEAN TO YOU? I have been thinking about New Year and where it was going to take me, my shop, my factory and my new career in floristry. All very exciting. There was a mixed reaction when I asked others what the new year meant to them, but the majority saw it as a catalyst to look at the year gone by and think about what they would like to change or where they would like to go. 2017 in the Chinese Horoscope is the year of the Rooster which is said to be a powerful one. In a Rooster year, all the Chinese animals can reap the rewards by tapping into the rooster traits like loyalty, commitment, hard work, and family values. Mind you I think that these values would hold you steadfast no matter what the year. This is what I found that the horoscopes depicts as this year. "I am alert, ready to take action The first on the scene, the last to leave I take chances, but I am precise I know were things belong, I am orderly and fastidious Nothing escapes me, I am always prepared I never give up, or in."

Bowen Therapy Bowen therapy has been developed into a modality used to treat many imbalances, discomforts and conditions. A large percentage of pain that we experience in the body is due to postural imbalances, which affects the mechanics of the body. The pain is usually a symptom or effect from the postural imbalance and most body therapists tend to go straight for the pain and rub or treat the sore bit. All though this usually feels good and temporarily relieves the pain, it does not fix the issue and in most cases the pain will return with time, however, to correctly treat this issue, we need to dig deeper using assessments and testing, to find the underlying cause of the problem and treat the cause, resulting in the symptoms to subside and along with selfhelp exercises and/or stretches bring about a longer lasting, if not permanent solution to the problem. Bowen therapy can also be used to treat and/or
help alleviate symptoms of medical conditions such as Planter Faciatis, Tennis Elbow, Chronic Headaches, Migraines, Asthma, Parkinsons, MS and Cerebral Palsy just to name a few. There are also specific treatments for organs of the abdominal cavity based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine technique of Chi Nei Sang. There are hormonal treatments used for treating many issues from painful periods to help with pregnancy to menopause, developed using ayurvedic principles. With such an amazing therapy developed and available right here in Australia, if you haven’t experienced it yet or you have an issue that other modalities just don’t seem to be helping, then give Bowen therapy a try.

COAST AND VALLEYS VETS ARE MOVING! Much as we've loved being part of the Milk Factory family, we've grown too big and it's time to leave the nest! But not far. We are moving to our new purpose built Veterinary Hospital in early 2017. Much bigger reception area to have you feeling less crowded when we are busy. Dedicated consultation rooms, and much larger hospital facilities to look after your pets more easily. Same friendly faces, same friendly atmosphere, and hopefully your furry family members will be just as happy coming to the new barn as they have been at our old cottage. The new address will be 138 Hue Hue Rd. Alison (next to Lustre Lodge) and it is exactly 1.6km from where we are now. But all the same Smiling faces we have now;- Drs Keith Phillips & Cormac O'Brolchain (yes our Irish Vet), Joslyn, Rhia, Jess, Danielle, Kylie, Jade & Tara, will be joined by our new Vet Dr Brianna Smits, and of course our welcoming committee of Hamish, Jess & Gus will be there to set your furry family members at ease.
So we look forward to seeing you all in the new barn, where we can continue to provide our very friendly professional high standard of care, for all your four legged family members, for their wellness care as well as our 24 hour emergency service. The new hospital will have extended surgical facilities, and apart from our dog & cat section, will include hospital facilities for Horses, Goats, Sheep and Alpaca. We will be having an open day once we move in- we'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, once we're open there, if you're driving past feel free to drop in and visit. The Carousel This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.
What to See & Do The Pelican Feeding in The Entrance Memorial Park is a highlight of any visit. Daily at 3.30pm The Entrance Heritage Walk is one of the best on the Central Coast and visitors will also enjoy the Coast to Lake Walk. Vera’s Watergarden is a children’s water playground opposite the Pelican Feeding area

The Italian Restaurant
Foodth wor ling l traveor! f
We had had a scary start to the day, driving in the pouring rain and blowing a tyre right off the Volvo halfway to the Central Coast. We have been to the Italian restaurant many times but thought a rainy day and the new menu were perfect matches. One hitch - Klara has become Gluten intolerant however the staff were so helpful, and sorted out every item. The menu is clearly marked with (GF) to make it easy. We shared most items so we could comment.
eater) and Klara the Chicken Ripieni breast filled with sundried tomato, chorizo and ricotta wrapped in prosciutto with mushroom, bacon Marsala sauce. The mains were perfectly done with tasty potato gallettes and broccolini. Choice of Salad or vegetables is readily available if you want to change accompaniments.
Entrees: We had a new dish Seafood Share (for 2), a selection of chilli lime Scampi; Prosciutto-wrapped Scallops; Lobster Ricotta Chorizo mousse stuffed cucumber; cream-cheese filled roasted capsicum wrapped in smoked salmon. Beautifully presented with such lovely tastes this platter was a delight. We accompanied this with the freshest oysters natural we have ever had.
Sweets; a delightful cheesecake, Creme Brulee, and wild strawberry & Balsamic Mouse with chocolate sauce. There is a choice of 13 sweets and it is hard to choose, ours were fantastic.
Mains: I had the Meat and Seafood Grill, Angus Sirloin, Med-Rare topped with prawns mussel, calamari, fish, scallop and bug with Citrus Chilli Aoli. Ian had Grilled Scampi (GF) with Garlic Parsley marinade served on Salad (he is a lighter
Our favourite Italian restaurant and its staff ensured the day improved. The new items on the menu were superb, the chef blew us away and we felt 150% better than we had. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant. They provide for every taste and pocket.

The Peninsula Ettalong Beach, Umina Beach & Woy Woy
Ocean Symphony Š Divine Guidance Pty Ltd (Ken Duncan)
The Peninsula a truly special place For those who live on the Peninsula, we all appreciate how truly special the area is with its safe and beautiful beaches, picturesque waterways, accessible National Parks, vibrant town centres, good transport and easy access to Sydney. Woy Woy is one of the busiest rail stations in New South Wales as locals commute to Sydney for work each morning and return each night to the relaxed Peninsula lifestyle. It is no wonder that more people choose to live and visit the Peninsula as they discover its wonderful attributes. Few places can boast one of the best ferry rides in Australia from Ettalong Beach to Palm Beach via the Palm Beach Ferry or the spectacular train ride from Woy Woy to Sydney via the Hawkesbury River. Nor can you ignore the wonderful Ettalong Beach Foreshore, the Woy Woy Waterfront or the many spectacular lookouts and National Parks. Without doubt our beaches are the cleanest and

safest on the Central Coast boasting Ettalong Beach, Umina and Ocean Beach, Pearl Beach and Patonga. Importantly, our town centres have become more vibrant with the bustling Umina Beach one of the busiest retail strip shopping centres on the Central Coast. This is supported by major shopping facilities in Woy Woy including Deepwater Plaza and Peninsula Plaza and boutique shopping in Ettalong Beach. In recent years we have seen the emergence of a great cafĂŠ culture and a range of high quality restaurants especially in the Ettalong Beach village centre. With great schools, terrific services and a full range of shopping centres, the demographics of the Peninsula are changing with young families and professionals moving in to complement our older population. No longer just somewhere to retire (and why not), the Peninsula has become a place for younger people to raise families and enjoy a lifestyle that is the envy of Sydney. Come visit the Peninsula and discover the reasons why others have chosen to make this area their home and a holiday destination.

WOY WOY LITTLE THEATRE ANNOUNCES 2017 SEASON Works by David Williamson, Neil Simon, Agatha Christie and Bill McIlwraith have been woven together to bring about a programme of plays that’ll leave ‘em laughing with Woy Woy Little Theatre in 2017. David Williamson’s 2011 comedy “When Dad Married Fury” is the first in March. After the death of his wife, millionaire and septuagenarian Alan Urquhart introduces Fury – half his age – to his two sons and daughter. How will they react to the beautiful young “gold digger” ? Following the huge success of “The Odd Couple” two years ago, director Shea Wicks will stage Neil Simon's “Rumors” in May and June. Set at the tenth anniversary party of Charlie Brock, Deputy Mayor of New York City when things don't go as planned. Agatha Christie’s 1950 classic “A Murder Is Announced” is scheduled for August. A delightful mystery that starts when a notice is published in the village newspaper announcing ‘a murder to take place on Friday at Little Paddocks at 6.30pm.

MARINE RESCUE CENTRAL COAST
CAPSIZE AND HYPOTHERMIA
Hypothermia is a serious life-threatening condition. It happens when the body's core internal temperature drops below 37°C (normal body temperature). Hypothermia is one danger when are in the water and can occur in water as warm as 20°. It happens when the body loses heat faster than it is replenished. One sign that your body is losing heat is shivering and ‘goose bumps’. As body temperature falls, shivering slows then stops. This is your body starting to shut down. The flow of blood to arms and legs slows, then stops. In deeper stages of hypothermia, speech becomes slurred, then incoherent. You become lethargic and uncoordinated, breathing slows, becomes shallow and erratic, finally you lose consciousness and can die. If you suddenly find yourself in the water, you will experience an initial deep and sudden ‘gasp’ followed by hyperventilation that can be more than 600% greater than normal breathing. You must keep your airway clear or run the risk of drowning. The cold shock will pass in about one minute. During that time, concentrate on avoiding panic and get control of your breathing. Wearing a lifejacket is important to keep you afloat. If capsized, lying on the upturned hull is a good idea to get as much of your body as far out of the water as possible.
30
www.monthlyimag.com.au
Wear proper clothing, synthetic fibres offer excellent insulation from the wind, but they do not protect you when wet. Wool insulates better while both dry and wet. Avoid drinking alcohol out on the water. Mixing boats and drinking can be dangerous, and increase the risk of hypothermia. Alcohol causes blood vessels to dilate, increasing the amount of heat lost. In an emergency, get out of the water as soon as possible. If you can't get to shore or back on your vessel, don't swim away. You lose more heat by swimming, than by treading water. Over approximately the first ten minutes, you will lose the effective use of your fingers, arms and legs for any meaningful movement. Concentrate on self-rescue initially, and if that isn’t possible, prepare to have a way to keep your airway clear to wait for rescue. In 20°C water, a person can survive for more than 18 hours floating with a PFD, and 10 hours treading water and swimming. Keep your clothes on to provide insulation from heat loss. If you are wearing a life jacket, draw your knees up and make your body as compact as possible (the HELP position). If there are two or more people in the water, huddle together to share and conserve warmth.

The People have spoken – Australian Reptile Park wins NSW Tourism Awards People’s Choice 2016 At the 2016 NSW Tourism Awards, set amongst the finest caliber of attractions in tourism the state has to offer, Australian Reptile Park on the Central Coast has achieved the most honourable recognition of all - taking out Gold in The People’s Choice Award, as the number one publically voted tourism attraction in the state. The wildlife park, renowned to be The Best Family Fun Day Out, also took home bronze in the Major Tourism Attractions category, selected by a judging panel for exceptional contribution to the NSW Tourism Industry. In this category Australian Reptile Park was flattered to be on the podium alongside Sydney Bridge Climb and the Australian National Maritime Museum, who took out first and second consecutively. To the park itself the biggest accolade was winning the peoples vote. “It’s a proud moment for all of us at Australian Reptile Park,” said Tim Faulkner, General Manager. “Australian Reptile Park ingrains a memorable experience to our guests from the first 44

time they visit, whether they’re a child or adult and these memories carry on for a lifetime. We pride ourselves on personalised service with hands-on animal interaction, entertaining and educational shows and the promise of an experience guests will want to return to enjoy again and again. “It’s most satisfying to all staff that the people recognise our passion and commitment to tourism, and animal welfare by voting for Australian Reptile Park as People’s Choice Gold Winner. We cannot thank all the voters enough, from all of us at the park we pass on a warm and big hearted thank you.” www.reptilepark.com.au

This is the life! If you live on the Coast and are a proud Coastie, it’s time to get on board with a new campaign to promote all things good about the Central Coast, called This is the life. It is all about celebrating life here and promoting positive perceptions of the Central Coast. The campaign follows the stories of loved locals from all walks of life doing extraordinary things with passion, and the lifestyles they can enjoy here. “The Central Coast has changed a lot over the past twenty years; it is certainly a more vibrant place with cafes, restaurants, festivals and a growing cultural scene,” said Administrator of Central Coast Council, Ian Reynolds. “We live here because we love it. I am sure you have that place on the Coast that you go that makes you pause and think ‘ahh this is the life.’ “It’s time all Coasties told our friends and family just how great life is in this spectacular region.” Help tell the story of the Central Coast You can help tell the story of the Central Coast. Mick Cook of Long Jetty is a firm believer that you are never too old to try something new, and the Central Coast is the perfect place to do it. “I started volunteering with Surf Life Saving here when I was 58, and have never looked back,” says Mick, who 17 years later is still keeping things safe at Toowoon Bay. Mick and his equally dedicated wife, Ruth, a first aid volunteer, love living on the Central Coast and say it stands out for “the friendliness and amazing sense of community”. Read more of Mick and Ruth’s story at www.thisisthecentralcoast.com.au/our-stories. Get out to eat on the Coast this summer! If you can’t stand the heat in your kitchen this summer, why not get out and eat in one of the Central Coast’s many great restaurants. Restaurateur Alessandro Cigola of Wyong’s Osteria A Mano restaurant says there are so many good restaurants across the Coast now - a real variety of sophisticated places to go. “Coasties need to get out and try Central Coast eateries and band together and be very proud of this beautiful region we all call home.” Alessandro himself was born in the small Italian town Lugagnano Val d’Arda and started training as a chef at the age of 14, before travelling the world and settling on the Coast where he is raising his young family. Seacoast Fishing Our commercial fishing business has been operating from Kincumber for the past 12 years and we have the freshest fish in town, straight from the boat to our shop, which is located 400 metres from the Scenic Road roundabout towards Macmasters Beach. Over the past few years we have increased our lobster catches and as the weather is warming up, our stocks of fish and shell fish, snapper, ocean jackets, bream and trevally are plentiful. We also sell fresh local oysters and local schoolies and we buy in Tasmanian salmon, trout, scallops and Coffs kings or tigers (whatever is the best this week). Peter has been fishing for over 30 years and has plenty of experience knowing where to place his traps. Mark is our youngest partner and is also very knowledgeable. Our boys are out in the boat most days, and they fish on Thursdays for our shop. So come in and try our freshest stock on Thursday and Friday from 11am to 6pm and on Saturday 9am to 6pm. Celebrations at Pullman Magenta Shores
Food worth travelling for!
This is the place to come when there are eight of you ready to celebrate anything at all.
There were five Sagittarians in our group when we dined at Magenta Shores recently, and all of us were ready to unwind after a busy few months. With a lovely glass of wine in hand, we looked over the menu and decided to try the Tapas Menu which was new since our last visit. I am gluten intolerant, which is another reason I enjoy dining here, as all six dishes on the menu were adapted for me and I loved every one of them. The food, the atmosphere, the cocktails, the service from wonderful well trained staff and the divine sunsets should bring you back often! For bookings phone 4352 8137 www.centralcoastimag.com.au

Food worth travelling for!
This restaurant is outstanding in every way. It is situated in the old Post Office in Terrigal and has a beautiful, cosy interior that was elegantly arranged and prepared. The menu alone is worth travelling for! For entrees Klara had the Chilli Bugs, that were cooked in a sauce with sweet chilli, garlic, ginger, tomato, saffron, spices, that really brought out the flavour of the Moreton Bay bugs. Emma had the superb home-made Goat’s cheese Tortellini with butternut puree, Persian figs, candied walnuts and sage butter, while I had Taste of the Sea with slipper lobster, king prawns, smoked salmon and oysters that were all fresh and delicious. The recommended wines were the 2011 McClaren Vale Scarpantoni Merlot and the 2014 Hunter Valley Scarborough Chardonnay, which married extremely well with the food. (The wine selection and bar is another reason to visit.) For main course, I had the thick cut A-grade Riverina Black Angus Fillet of beef, off the bone, char grilled with roasted mushroom, Dianne sauce (which was juicy, tender, and melted in my mouth). It was served on a bed of spinach with hand-cut chips

and beautifully cooked greens. Klara had the Free Range Duck Breast (very tender) with Pork Belly (that pulled apart) served with caramelised apple, seared sea scallops, roasted hazelnuts, morcilla and crackle, which was all artistically arranged and really flavourful. Emma had the Chicken Vino Bianco - chicken breast pan-cooked in white wine and cream with sautéed mushrooms on mashed potatoes and side vegetables.
We loved our desserts and Emma had the warm-centred chocolate soufflé with raspberry sorbet, hazelnut praline and fresh strawberries. Klara had the Baileys Crème Brulee with fresh summer berries, vanilla bean ice cream, coffee and hazelnut crumble and I had the Chef’s selection of sweets and small cakes which were beautifully arranged and all delectable! Compliments to the Chef Tony Romeo for all of it! Terrace Grill is competitively priced and open Thursday to Sunday for lunch and Tuesday to Sunday night for dinner and has a great atrium that is ideal for group functions. Emilia Krumm

This touring exhibition from the National Portrait Gallery celebrates candid, contrived, natural, sexy, ironic, beautiful and fascinating Australian portraits which all show a bit of skin. Fun and forthright, the exhibition interrogates our instinctive, embedded and complex reactions to nakedness. The portraits, which feature some of Australia’s greatest sports people and foremost creative achievers, including Billy Slater, Germaine Greer, Dame Edna Everage, David Gulpilil and Megan Gale explore the subtle but crucial differences between the naked and the nude, being dressed or undressed and seeing someone clothed or unclothed. Locals Only began two years ago when the idea of a coloured and scented sunscreen that rubs in clear was envisaged. Skin Cancer is something that has always plagued my family and after doing some research and finding that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Australia, it was clear that something had to be done about these alarming statistics. All sunscreens that I have looked at (whether it is budget sunscreens or premium sunscreen) are all remarkably similar, there is nothing significant that really differentiates the two. They are generally all considered a white paste that you rub onto your skin that leaves you smelling like that typical sunscreen smell we all know. Applying sunscreen is considered a routine that has nothing fun, exciting or unique associated with it. The idea behind Locals Only was to add that excitement that was missing by creating a unique sunscreen product. Locals Only sunscreens are coloured and scented, high protection sunscreens. All our sunscreens rub in clear and are available as: Watermelon, Tropical, Malibu and Strawberry scented sunscreens. They were designed to leave you smelling fresh and fruity during your time in the sun and also provide you with the highest quality protection (SPF50+) from harmful UV rays as possible. All our sunscreens are oxybenzone free, making them marine safe! This was something that I found to be extremely important as oxybenzone has been found

Coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world and hence why I believe it is so important to ensure the protection of these coral reefs. All Locals Only sunscreens are free of nanoparticles found in some zinc oxide and titanium dioxide based sunscreens that can enter the bloodstream and cause damage to living cells and organs. This was also something I found to be extremely important as ingredients such aszinc oxide and titanium dioxide are mineral ingredients that must be mined, causing further loss of biodiversity and damage to local ecosystems through the destructive mining processes. All Locals Only Sunscreens are SPF50+, 4 hours water resistant and made right here in Australia.
