September Welcome to the Central Coast ...It's Spring! Firstly Congratulations to Tom Slingsby for his Gold Medal in Sailing. Gosford Sailing Club will be packed out for the time being as Fans hope to catch a glimpse of our Hero. What a great achievement, maybe this is the first of many for the Coast and not forgetting the boys from Wangi getting Gold too. I do hope this means many young ones will take up this very exciting sport of Sailing. There is also an excellent restaurant at the Club called Latitude 33 but you must book. The Central Coast is sensational in spring. Our national parks and reserves are colourful with displays of wildflowers and our beaches beckon for long walks and maybe a swim for the hardy. Time to visit Andersons Boat hire and get out there on a BBQ Boat or even a Half Cabin and go fishing. Page 22 will give you the contact details.

Get your website mobile! Nature Play is good for mind body and spirit Studies from around the world show that children who play in nature progress faster, and are more confident than those who have little or no access to nature. They also show that anyone who lives close to an accessible natural area has a better chance of coping with our fast-paced lifestyle.

COSS Family Nature Club Do you remember those endless summer days when you left the house in the morning and didn’t get home until dark? Those carefree days of hiding in trees watching the world go by, or cooling off in the local creek? Do you remember those feelings of freedom, of a sense of place, of belonging? For most of us, our lives have now changed. We’re busier, we have barricaded ourselves in, and we often find ourselves looking out from behind a window, a fence, or a windscreen. Would you like your kids to discover the world of your childhood, to explore their skills and abilities, gain confidence and a sense of freedom?

Natural areas calm us, they clean our air and water, and provide refuge for the plants and animals that live in our beautiful Central Coast. COSS Family Nature Club is here to help Central Coast families connect with nature and build stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities. Family Nature Clubs are made up of people who come together to share the benefits of experiencing nature to teach their children life skills, creativity, problem solving and confidence. Your family nature club is your own club. You decide where you go, how often and for how long, it’s up to you! Find out how to start your own COSS Family Nature Club and receive your free guide: www.gosford.nsw.gov.au/recreation/ natural_areas/COSS-family-nature-club

Fernbank Farm Fernbank Farm is a wonderful heritage property at Wyong Creek and has recently become available as a Farm Stay and boutique wedding venue. Built in 1904, Fernbank has been lovingly restored, the home is considered one of the Central Coast's most treasured heritage assets. The property is set on 25 acres, 8 of which are beautiful gardens. The garden features a gorgeous rotunda by the lake, a lovely Somesby pebble area and hand-made iron gates to lead you along the hedged dam bank. Fernbank Farm is the home of the Santosa Clydesdale Stud and recently our youngest filly won Champion and Supreme Champion at the St. Helliers Heavy Horse Show. The Judge was the well known Clydesdale expert, Mr John Donaldson, who coincidentally was a prior owner of Fernbank Farm! …. Gosford Regional Gallery White Gums and Ramoxes Ceramics by Merric and Arthur Boyd from the Bundanon Trust Collection A Bundanon Trust Travelling Exhibition 21 July to 16 September This exhibition presents the ceramic work of potter Merric Boyd (18881959) between the 1910s-1950s, and that of his son, artist Arthur Boyd (1920-1999), from the 1940s-1980s. It takes its title from two characteristic motifs in the work of the artists: Merric was preoccupied with interpretations of trees, while Arthur’s ‘ramox’ is typical of his interest in metamorphised and hybrid figures. Place out of Time: Christine Vanderwyk 18 August to 16 September 2012 This exhibition, by Central Coast artist Christine Vanderwyk, explores the

natural landscape. Christine’s images are imbued with personal expression and symbolism, using line, shape and colour towards abstraction. She aims to capture the balance and timelessness of ever-burgeoning nature by taking inspiration from an area’s atmosphere and appearance. For Christine, the natural environment is a place of respite and reinvigoration. She takes the subject matter of the landscape far from a realistic view into an almost psychedelic ‘place out of time’. Innocent Eyes Photography

How to take better Danielle Morrison Studio - Gallery portraits

A world apart from typical studio portraits, we create natural photographs that leave you feeling…

by Justin, Innocent Eyes Photography

Innocent Eyes Photography provides an affordable photography experience to local families. We are utilising the beauty of water on the Coast, the magic of the mountains and warmth of farms in the Hunter and loving every moment of it. The most essential part of creating a memorable portrait is nature in her purest form. The innocence of a child comes alive in the environment and we pride ourselves in capturing the world in which that beauty integrates and reigns. Innocent Eyes is a family business and with our four year old son we have developed as a young family to merge with Justin’s fifteen years experience as a photographer. Together, these attributes enable us to guarantee we will provide you with service that is warm and photographs that are exceptional. Relationship is core essential and we look forward to building one with you. In conjunction with Monthly iMag, Innocent Eyes Photography is offering a family portrait session to one lucky family! We look forward to receiving your competition entry! From our family to yours… Justin, Caryn and Lawson Aveling.

Win a Portrait Session! You could win a family portrait session, three 5x7” matted prints and a magnificent 16 x 20” framed print on our new watercolour paper stock and floated in a white box frame. Please send your name, address and contact details on the back of an envelope to PO BOX 589 Toukley 2263 or email info@ innocenteyesphotography.com

Learning to use light effectively is essential when wanting to take great portraits. When photographing people I always prefer to use natural light, even if I am indoors. There are plenty of aspects that need to be understood in order to achieve the desired result. Quality of light One of the most important things is the time of day at which to shoot. I avoid shooting in the middle of the day as you will end up with harsh, unflattering shadows on the face. Instead, consider shooting slightly earlier or later in the day (before 8 am and after 4 pm) as the light is softer and more flattering. Alternatively you could shoot on an overcast day as the clouds act as a ‘soft diffuser’, getting rid of harsh shadows that direct sunlight produces. Window light Employing the sunlight through a window to light a portrait shot is a favourite technique of mine and can make for some really engaging and dramatic portraits. The soft light through the window acts as the perfect highlight for a strong and moody image and works particularly well if you have the light cast on just one side of the subjects face, leaving the other in shadow. (see image above) The general rule is that the closer to the window you are, the more light you’ll have to work with and the stronger the contrast will be between shadows and light. If the light coming through the window is too bright, you always have the option of using curtains or blinds to diffuse some of the light. Feel free to email me your pics for feedback. I look forward to sharing more pro tips and with you next month. Happy shooting! info@innocenteyesphotography.com www.innocenteyesphotography.com

Sadly we will be closed for some major refurbishment for a couple of months. I will be using this time to paint for a solo show to reopen the gallery in spring. In the meantime I have some of my works hanging at the Yarramalong Macadamia Nut Farm. Beautiful place to pop into for great coffee!! If anyone needs to contact me please don’t hesitate to email me or call. So, thank you for all your support and I will see you in the spring! 11 Alison Road, Wyong 0400 345 291 danielle.morrison@hotmail.com

MONTHLY

Saturday 15th September Farmers Market Memorial Park, 8am - 1pm

This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

Near the Sails Stage The Waterfront, The Entrance  Children’s birthday parties a specialty.

That's Entertainment A Diamond Jubilee and You’re Invited! Wyong Drama Group is celebrating 60 years of entertaining our local community and true to that spirit it is having a birthday celebration to which the whole community is invited. The party will be in the usual venue of Wyong Memorial Hall starting at 6 pm on September 8th. For a change the group members are not performing. Instead they will join in as everyone kicks back or toe-taps or dances to the lively music of At The Hop’s music of the 50s and 60s with a special tribute to Johnny O’Keefe and a Las Vegas Showgirls segment. Why not dress up in the fashion of that era? Many of us will be! A three course spit-roast dinner completes what promises to be a glorious night of celebratory fun. The evening is BYO. Tickets are $35. Ring Robyn on 43534353 and come and join us! Saturday September 8th 6pm

Noel Coward was worried that his legacy would be forgotten. Far from it! His plays are regularly performed throughout the world and his songs, both witty and sentimental, continue to delight. Many of his songs his songs, such as Mad Dogs and Englishmen, and Don’t Put Your Daughter on the Stage, Mrs Worthington, have not lost their relevance, appeal or humour. Azzuro Blu Wharf, The Entrance. "What a lovely evening out. Although it was raining we were able to park within a few metres of Azzuro Blu Wharf, The Entrance where The Italian Restaurant, right on the Waterfront is situated. We were so well served, cold water on the table, a comprehensive wine list, friendly service along with authentic Italian food - it doesn't get much better than that. Oysters, sweet fresh Sydney Rock Oysters were shared by 3 guests at our table. They were succulent Mornay, Kilpatrick and Natural, whilst I enjoyed a Chicken Caesar Salad as an entree. Our main dishes were delightful. 2 of our party of 4 had the Scampi Alla Grillia dressed with lemon juice and garlic with rocket salad and shaved parmesan and cherry tomatoes. They thoroughly enjoyed the scampi, our other guest had the Enzo Prawns sauteed with garlic and chili in Napolitana sauce. While I admired the presentation and taste of their meals my favourite was definitely my own. Home made light, fluffy gnocci with a delicate cream sauce accompanied by Sauteed King Prawns and fresh Asparagus - it doesn't get much better than that. The menu is more exciting than standard Italian restaurants, a great way to relax and enjoy."
