Spring on the Coast Yarramalong Spring Festival Scarecrows

From the Editor Welcome to the Central Coast. The beautiful Central Coast has such a wonderful display of everything that is new, babies of all types are now playing or chirping. Birds, lambs, calves, ponies to name just a few. Everything that has a blossom or flower is on show; the Magnolias are magnificent this year. The timing for your drive through Wyong to Yarramalong is perfect. From the 29th, all the Scarecrows will be on show, so too will so many other fun things to do for the Australian Springtime Festival. Pages 22 & 23 have your programme. Enjoy the Festival. Westfield Tuggerah has a fantastic offer for you to enjoy in the outdoor courtyard while dining at any of the Restaurants there. We welcome to iMag one of the most beautiful Resorts on the Coast. Pullman Magenta Shores Resort, we have been there several times now and enjoy the friendly staff, great food and wine. I love watching a beautiful sunset while munching on a delicious Pizza cooked by the Chef in the new Pizza Oven. This is the

perfect place to bring DAD on Father’s Day. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or Run Away From the Kids without going too far away. This is the perfect place to spoil yourself at the beautiful Vie Spa. This is just the perfect place, but don’t take my word for it, GO. Thank you so much to everyone who tells our advertisers that they saw them in iMag. This is such a help to their marketing. I wish all the DADs a HAPPY FATHERS DAY. ON A PERSONAL NOTE: It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Karma Spa. Through unforeseen events Bonita must close Karma down. I cannot tell you my friend how personally upsetting this is for Emma & I but also for all your loyal customers. You are a Diamond in this industry and we wish you well. I hope you will come back soon. Till next time BIG HUGS, Klara

Update & renovate your kitchen This distressed kitchen which was lovely in its time needed to be revamped. The doors were in perfect condition but the owner wanted to brighten her kitchen and family area. So we refinished the doors and panels in a white acrylic paint, distressed the edges in with the keeping of the original finish. New kicks and a small amount of cabinetry. Then we gave the shutters a new look with the same paint finish. Well you can see the result, it has opened up the space and given a much fresher and new look to the whole area. The owner was very excited with the result. As were we.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the oldest forms of healing ever recorded dating back at least 2000 years, but some are convinced it is more like 5000 years old. Many of the modern massage therapies use techniques derived from TCM and even certain modalities such as kinesiology, reflexology, hot cupping, dry needling, hot stones etc, which are now stand alone treatments all originate back to TCM. Even Bowen therapy has its roots deep in TCM. Thomas Bowen developed his craft with a friend of his Ernie Saunders who had studied oriental therapies in America and when questioned on which book Thomas used as his main reference book he replied a

Shiatsu book. I am currently studying TCM massage and the familiarities between the therapies are remarkable. The assessment process of TCM is incredible and deals with the entire body not just the sore or painful parts but the body as a whole. Not just a physical whole but an emotional, energetic and physical whole and its surrounding environment. I have recently begun offering TCM massage as an option in my treatments. I still do my normal treatment at regular price and at the beginning or end I can introduce clients who are interested to TCM massage free of charge until I have completed the course at the end of the year. This has to be organised prior obviously for time allowances.

The Carousel This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

What to See & Do The Pelican Feeding in The Entrance Memorial Park is a highlight of any visit. Daily at 3.30pm The Entrance Heritage Walk is one of the best on the Central Coast and visitors will also enjoy the Coast to Lake Walk. Vera’s Watergarden is a children’s water playground opposite the Pelican Feeding area

The Most Useful Knot

Selection of just the right knot is an essential part of seamanship. The type and size of rope being used has a bearing, synthetic line tends to have a smooth surface and the holding power of a knot will be affected accordingly.

FASHION BOUTIQUE

A bowline is very strong, will not slip yet is easy to untie, and is the most useful knot used on boats. A bowline is universally used to make a non-slipping loop in a rope. It is used for mooring or berthing lines over piles and bollards, securing a line to an anchor, making a line fast to a ring or a shackle, etc.). Two interconnected bowlines make a very strong and sure method of joining two ropes.

Ladies Fashions from around the world Illustration: Guide to tieing a bowline

Take the bight in the left hand, with the tail towards the body, allowing sufficient rope to make a loop of suitable size. Twist the bight into a small loop at the left hand with the main part of the rope underneath. Take the tail in the right hand, pass it up through the small loop, around the bight from right to left, and back down through the small loop. Hold the tail and loop and pull the bight tight. To release, push the bight into the knot.

The Peninsula Ettalong Beach, Umina Beach & Woy Woy

Ettalong Beach aerial photograph Š Deluxe Art Prints Umina Beach

The Peninsula a truly special place For those who live on the Peninsula, we all appreciate how truly special the area is with its safe and beautiful beaches, picturesque waterways, accessible National Parks, vibrant town centres, good transport and easy access to Sydney. Woy Woy is one of the busiest rail stations in New South Wales as locals commute to Sydney for work each morning and return each night to the relaxed Peninsula lifestyle. It is no wonder that more people choose to live and visit the Peninsula as they discover its wonderful attributes. Few places can boast one of the best ferry rides in Australia from Ettalong Beach to Palm Beach via the Palm Beach Ferry or the spectacular train ride from Woy Woy to Sydney via the Hawkesbury River. Nor can you ignore the wonderful Ettalong Beach Foreshore, the Woy Woy Waterfront or the many spectacular lookouts and National Parks. Without doubt our beaches are the cleanest and

safest on the Central Coast boasting Ettalong Beach, Umina and Ocean Beach, Pearl Beach and Patonga. Importantly, our town centres have become more vibrant with the bustling Umina Beach one of the busiest retail strip shopping centres on the Central Coast. This is supported by major shopping facilities in Woy Woy including Deepwater Plaza and Peninsula Plaza and boutique shopping in Ettalong Beach. In recent years we have seen the emergence of a great cafĂŠ culture and a range of high quality restaurants especially in the Ettalong Beach village centre. With great schools, terrific services and a full range of shopping centres, the demographics of the Peninsula are changing with young families and professionals moving in to complement our older population. No longer just somewhere to retire (and why not), the Peninsula has become a place for younger people to raise families and enjoy a lifestyle that is the envy of Sydney. Come visit the Peninsula and discover the reasons why others have chosen to make this area their home and a holiday destination.

The Cunning Little VIXEN by Leos Janacek

Pacific Opera’s production of The Cunning Little Vixen will be presented at Sydney Grammar School on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October 2015. The Cunning Little Vixen is a philosophical reflection on the uneasiness of man's relationship with the natural world and his own nature. Hay Fever

Hay Fever by Noël Coward was first staged in London in 1925 and at face value is very much a product of its time but inside the traditional form of the English drawing room comedy lies Coward’s keen observation of human beings couched in his acute and cutting wit. A cross between farce and comedy of manners the play is as funny now as it ever was. It has as much to say now about how men and women get on and how families function as it ever did. It is a classical English country house weekend with the Bliss family. The Father, David Bliss, is a popular novelist, the mother, Judith, is a recently retired successful actress, thinking about her return to the London stage, and their children, Simon and Sorel, are bohemian in attitude, artistically inclined and in their early 20s. Conventional behaviour and conventional morality are not well

The Residents of Tarragal Glen Retirement Village

understood in this household. This collection of eccentric individuals is united only by their fascination with recent romantic stage productions in London. Even the housemaid, Clara, has a theatrical background since she was Judith’s dresser for most of her stage career. Each member of the family, unknown to the others has invited a guest for the weekend - a career diplomat, Richard Greatham, for Sorel, Sandy Tyrrell, an admirer of Judith’s acting, for Judith, Myra Arundel for Simon, and Jackie Coryton is the guest of David. These unsuspecting guests do not know what they have let themselves in for. Hay Fever will be staged over three weekends from Friday October 30. The Australian Reptile Park presents spring baby animals in September school holidays During the September school holidays there will be wildlife shows, roving keepers, alligator feeding, animal walks, Kids 2 Keeper workshops and VIP animal encounters. “Ranger Mick” will entertain visitors with his unique wildlife shows which showcase various animals throughout the day. This includes a NEW baby animal show at 1.00pm featuring baby koalas, wombats, kangaroos, bilbies, Tasmanian devils and dingo puppies. Visitors will be able to pat the baby animals and have their photo taken with them near the show area, whilst hear how they’re raised at The Australian Reptile Park.

September also marks feeding season for The Australian Reptile Park’s 40 resident alligators. Keepers will demonstrate conditioning techniques to avoid their snapping jaws as they rise high out of the lagoon to catch their food during daily alligator feeding shows. “School Holidays at The Australian Reptile Park is all about providing the best family fun day out to our visitors,” said Tim Faulkner (General

Manager and Head of Conservation). "Keepers will be out roaming the park with Komodo dragons, dingo puppies, lizards, snakes, and native birds for visitors to admire.” The most celebrated roving keeper activity of the school holidays will be the daily walk with the park’s giant resident Galapagos tortoise Hugo, who is turning 65 years old in September. The Australian Reptile Park is open daily from 9am until 5pm, located at Somersby on the Central Coast of New South Wales, approx one hour drive from Sydney and Newcastle with complementary parking. For visitors wanting behind-thescenes experiences at The Australian Reptile Park, interactive workshops are available during the school holidays with Kids 2 Keepers programs, and meet the stars of Animal Encounters. Seacoast Fishing Nearing the end of winter, fishing for snapper and all other local fish has been profitable. Coming into spring, as the waters start to warm up, the fish will also increase.

During the winter season this year our boys have been madly getting our new fishing boat "Suemic" ready, which should be in September. Mark, our partner in Seacoast Fishing has just had a new addition to his family: wife Mel, daughter Ellie and little Sophie, with three girls. We hope they love the fishing!! With our experienced staff of Greg, Bryce and Cameron, we can satisfy all our customers - deboning filleted fish, cooking up lobsters, or ideas on how to cook your seafood. Most of our catch of snapper, ocean jackets, bream, trevally and lobsters is sent to the fish markets but all our catch from Thursday and Friday is kept for our shop, open Thursday and Friday from 11 - 6 pm and Saturday from 9 - 6pm. We have local oysters, school prawns and also sell a variety of frozen products. Seacoast Fishing is "a real fishing home", where you see the traps, fish arriving from boats and a live lobster tank. Find us at Scenic Rd, Kincumber, 400m from Cullens Rd roundabout. Come and try the freshest fish in town!

The Italian Restaurant Review Azzuro Blu Wharf, The Entrance

The Italian Restaurant at The Entrance has a modern approach to Italian cuisine. It is situated in a great location, at the edge of the lagoon, overlooking the sea. A group of six of us went to eat there on a beautiful winter’s Saturday, which was warm and comfortable enough for us to sit in the outside area.

We chose a bottle of Squealing Pig Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to complement our meal. We jointly decided to share the seafood starters, which was a gastronomically wonderful experience. It consisted of seafood stuffed cucumbers, prosciutto wrapped scallops, cream cheese stuffed capsicum wrapped in smoked salmon, and my favourite: chilli lime marinated scampi with pink grapefruit, all presented on pop-in-your-mouth Chinese soup spoons.

We enjoyed a wide variety of main courses ranging from traditional gnocchi Food with a delicious arrabiata worth sauce, a scotch fillet with travelling for! sautéed prawns on a bed of mashed potatoes, two crispy salmons served on a bed of tomato salsa with avocado, a lobster Mornay served with a rucola salad, roma tomatoes and parmesan cheese and a very well-executed duck with salted caramel sauce and roasted truss tomatoes. The journey to the facilities was tricky as the toilets are situated outside the building, but it was a covered walkway so one would not get wet if it rained. Desserts continued to be delicious and varied. We experienced the panna cotta with mixed berries, crème brulee, apple crumble and a coconut gelato presented in a martini glass with dark chocolate. Coffees were served by very attentive staff and the good service did add to the great enjoyment of the meal. We would highly recommend the Italian Restaurant. Emilia Risi

Huge that is if you drink alcohol or are happy with sugary water-based drinks. But if you don’t drink alcohol, or are cutting down, and want

You’ll be able to sample an enticing range of the finest handcrafted treats of dark and milk chocolate, allowing you to ‘try before you buy’ to ensure you purchase the right sweets to tingle your tastebuds. To really escape the winter blues, why not warm up in Luka Chocolates cafe by wrapping your lips around a traditional French style hot chocolate, a popular choice with many visitors. As well as

the confectionary and hot chocolate, they also offer premium quality ice cream and coffees to compliment your sweets. There is something on offer for everyone. Luka Chocolates has brought a new type of food tourism to the central coast region. Their passion to teach customers to consume quality sweets and to educate people in the art of being a master chocolatier makes this the perfect spot to have a much needed refreshment for tour groups and customers passing through Wyong Shire, while offering a unique and educational experience. Karen McNamara MP, Federal Member for Dobell praises Luka Chocolates as “a great example of an innovative small business that’s brought something unique to Dobell…creating a wonderful place for people to experience chocolate making and to taste the handiwork of the chocolatiers.” The Wyong Milk Factory and Chocolate Boutique is located next to the M1 Freeway (formerly known as the F3) and a short distance from the Wyong town centre and train station. There is plenty of parking available on site. 10/141-155 Alison Road, Wyong, NSW 2259 Phone: (02) 43554848 Email: info@lukachocolate.com.au www.centralcoastimag.com.au

Register from 9am onwards, at Long Jetty Foreshore, Tuggerah Parade. There’ll also be a charity auction of artworks produced on the day at 2pm. Social Media -

Promoting your Business Over the last two issues we looked at social media, starting with what it was, how it worked and how to stay safe while using it. To conclude our social media Richard Krupka series, this time we will be Owner PC Wrangler looking at some basic ways to utilise social media for growing your business and staying connected with your customer base. Whether you have a small home based business, market stall or a large multinational company, social media can be used cheaply and effectively to help you reach a wide customer base as well as helping your business stay relevant. How do I start? To begin using social media for your business, the set up costs are minimal. Most people already have access to a computer or a smart phone, and setting up accounts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, to name a few, is free. The rest is up to you to get creative! Once you have established your social media accounts it is important to plan ahead. Having a good idea of what to post and when will help you maintain good content and ensure that you are posting with frequency. How frequently should I Post? Understanding your target market and knowing when they are likely to be online is a great start! As a general rule though, many strategists believe that posting more than twice a day becomes more irritating than informative, while posting once a week or less could see you losing your connection with your customer base

Copyright – keeping it legal and staying protected Once you have decided what you want to post, make sure you are the owner of your content. If you take your own photos and create your own images, watermarking them before posting can be a great way to minimise unauthorised sharing. If you are using other peoples content always check the permissions attached to their work or images before sharing on your page. Where to be careful Due to the rapid nature of social media, posts can quickly go viral. Active page management is essential, not only to monitor the posts and comments from your audience, but to ensure the integrity of your business is being maintained. For example sharing or promoting sensitive information can sometimes have negative effects on your business and should be kept to your personal page. Now that we have had a basic look at social media you should have the tools to begin posting! As usual if you have any questions, need IT advice or help contact us at PC Wrangler

What should I post? In general; a good mix of information, pictures and fun! Because social media can be updated so easily, it’s a great to use in addition to the information found on your website. It’s an easy way of making quick contact with your customers letting them know for example, what’s happening in your business that day or upcoming events.
