December Welcome to the Central Coast in December! It’s a wonderful time of the Year, I love the Holiday Season. Warm sunny days and balmy nights allow us to enjoy our pristine beaches and calm waterways. Shopping in the evenings means we can cram as much activity into our days that time allows us. We have some very talented artists in iMag this month. Photography or a Painting by a professional is a lifetime gift that can be passed on for generations to come. Choose carefully as you are giving a gift for life. That makes it very special. With Christmas and the school holidays approaching, the entertainment on the Coast really hots up with a Mardi Gras, Christmas tree lighting, Christmas fair at Avoca, Carols by Candlelight and then the New Year’s Eve fireworks and Entertainment. Many of the Clubs and restaurants around the Coast are offering special Christmas functions.
Contents Don’t forget the Hinterland for something a bit different for those special events. We have a good variety of things for you to do throughout our iMag. We at iMag would like to take a moment at this time of joy and giving to remember thousands of people around the world who have been devastated by natural disasters this Year. We would also like to thank those of you that contribute time or money to help those in need. We would also like to thank you for all the praises we have been getting from you on our efforts to bring you a great iMag each month. We love what we do and appreciate the feedback. Love the smiling faces and wish you all a very happy Christmas season.
Merry Christmas!

The festive fun starts on the Central Coast in December! Summer has arrived, and Christmas celebrations are the highlight of a month packed full of festive fun on the NSW Central Coast. From community-based Christmas celebrations in Blue Haven, Wyong and Pearl Beach through to major Carols events at Gosford’s Bluetongue Stadium (December 19th), Mingara Recreation Club (December 23rd) and Memorial Park at The Entrance (December 24th), there’s something for all the family to enjoy! The Central Coast Christmas Fair takes place at Avoca Beach on December 9th, while Gosford Race Club hosts a range of meetings perfect for a Christmas gathering throughout December. Once the big day arrives, there are plenty of options for visitors and locals to tuck in to a festive feast! Head to our website to view the full list of options, including special Christmas fare at Mingara Recreation Club and Crowne Plaza Terrigal. Other significant events early in December include Tuggerah Lakes Mardi Gras Festival, celebrating its 61st year on Saturday 1 December at The Entrance. The Central Coast Mariners feature in three exciting home games at Bluetongue Stadium (one of the Central Coast’s great Local Secrets!) on December 1st, 14th and 31st, and after a great start to the new A-League football season, they’re sure to excite!
There’s also plenty of live entertainment including Wendy Matthews, Diesel, Dragon, The Black Sorrows, Phil Jamieson, Mental as Anything, Ian Moss, James Reyne and the Choirboys on show at some of our finest Central Coast venues, including Lizottes and Laycock Street Theatre – two more of our wonderful Local Secrets. You can check out the full list of the Central Coast’s 52 Local Secrets, as voted by locals (past, present and future) at www.visitcentralcoast.com. au/52localsecrets With Christmas wrapped up for another year, there are plenty of ways to ring in 2013. The Entrance hosts its annual familyfriendly New Years Eve Celebrations in Memorial Park, while the Gosford New Years Eve Festival returns again, with horse racing, the Mariners v Perth Football match at Bluetongue and live entertainment on the waterfront. Both locations conclude their celebrations with spectacular fireworks displays over the water at around 9pm. The ARIA Award-winning John Butler Trio are the headline act at this year’s Peats Ridge Sustainable Arts & Music

Marine Rescue Be safe on the water this summer The summer season is here and soon holiday visitors will be on the coast, many with their boats to explore our wonderful waterways for fun or fishing. Whether you are a local or a visitor, Marine Rescue Central Coast volunteers will be on duty daily from 6:00am to 6:00pm to help in the event of an incident or breakdown. Contact them on marine radio or phone 4325 7929. Marine Rescue suggests everyone takes a few simple safety checks before heading out. Be sure your fuel is fresh. If it is more than 4 - 6 weeks old it needs refreshing. Use only premium unleaded fuel not E10 as it can damage outboard engines. Be sure everyone onboard knows where lifejackets are stored and show newcomers how to use them. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and tell somebody where you are going and when you expect to be back. Leave a description of your boat including registration details with somebody ‘at home’ so if help is needed rescuers have sufficient information. Visitors seeking local information about Brisbane Water or Broken Bay are welcome to visit the base in Goodaywang Reserve at the end of Kurrawa Avenue Point Clare.

Innocent Eyes specializes in maternity/ newborn, children and family portraiture. With Christmas just around the corner we can help you tick off your gift list or why not book us to come and take some memorable photos when the family are together. We guarantee we will make your family’s session a fun and enjoyable experience! From our family to yours… Justin and Caryn (02) 4353 0769
Panning By Justin Aveling, Innocent Eyes Photography Panning is a technique that can produce amazing results but is also one that can take a lot of practice to get right. The basic idea behind panning is that you move your camera in time with a moving subject and end up getting a relatively sharp subject with a blurred background (see image below). I’ve found that panning seems to work best with moving subjects that are on a relatively straight trajectory such as cars and bikes. Select a slower shutter speed such as 1/60 second and then experiment with slower ones. Depending upon the light and the speed of your subject you could end up using anything between 1/60 and 1/8 – although at the slower speeds you’ll probably end up with ‘camera shake’ on top of your motion blur.
Position yourself in a place where your view of the subject will not be obstructed by anyone or anything else. Also consider the background of your shot. Single coloured or plain backgrounds tend to work best. As the subject approaches, track it smoothly with your camera. If you have a camera with automatic focus tracking you can let the camera do the focussing for you. If your camera doesn’t have fast enough auto focussing you’ll need to pre-focus your camera upon the spot that you’ll end up releasing the shutter. Once you’ve released the shutter (do it as gently as possible to reduce camera shake) continue to pan with the subject. This smooth follow through will ensure the motion blur is smooth from start to finish in your shot. I look forward to sharing more tips with you next month. Happy shooting! info@innocenteyesphotography.com www.innocenteyesphotography.com

Three Reasons to try a Segway Central Coast based tourist operator - Segway Central Coast (www.segwaycentralcoast.com.au) is all about offering their visitors an experience they’ll never forget! With summer on the way now’s the time to get outside and have some fun and here’s Segway Central Coast’s top three reasons to do just that! 1. It’s the family outing EVERYONE will want to go on! How many times have you had family get togethers where the conversation has struggled and you find yourself just plain bored?! Organise a family function that everyone will WANT to talk about for years to come! Segway Central Coast will cater for large groups so the whole family can enjoy the day. Make some exciting memories and imagine all the fabulous photo opportunities! 2. Add another “set of wheels” to your repertoire Our first “set of wheels” is usually in the form of a bike or trike. Then a skateboard, razor and ultimately a car; and perhaps a scooter or motorbike. Give a Segway a spin and enjoy the freedom that two wheels can give you. There’s no exhaust – so you can enjoy the fresh air at Segway Central Coast’s lush location at Mt. Penang Parklands – just 45 minutes from Sydney’s northern suburbs. 3. Anyone can ride a Segway How often have you wanted to get together with the kids and your friends and wanted to do something everyone could enjoy? Segway Central Coast is the perfect solution for everyone aged 9-89! The Segway’s are easy to operate and at all times a Segway Central Coast guide will be on hand if you need assistance. No longer will younger ones feel left out or parents sitting on the sidelines watching! It’s truly something you can learn and enjoy together.

Little Creek Cheese
The word is out on Amazement’s magical days out for families.
Little Creek Cheese is the only cheese factory on the Central Coast of New South Wales. Located at the historical Old Milk Factory, in the back of Wyong. Being established now for just over 20 months they are opening their doors to the public and teaching cheese making. Owners and cheese makers Russell and Sue Parsons are excited about passing on their knowledge to anyone who would like to learn the traditional cheese making ways.
We have hosted birthday parties, weddings and family get together. The grounds are looking better and better and 2 new mazes are in the planning. The café is making a name for itself as a gorgeous venue, serving scrumptious homemade food and is open to everyone Friday through Sunday from breakfast. What could be better than a delicious lunch sitting and chatting with friends in the sunshine on the café veranda, with peacocks, geese and ducks strolling by? Amazement will close to the public from December the 15th til Boxing Day, only opening for pre booked end of year functions. Our Christmas trees will be on sale for one day only on Saturday December 15th from 8am.

The response has been great and anyone interested in attending a class can contact Little Creek Cheese direct for more details and dates on classes. Email LittleCreekCheese@hotmail.com or Phone 0488 481 441.

Sue said “We always have people asking us how we make cheese, so the next step was to open the doors and teach people how to make it, with a hands on lesson, rather than just a verbal answer”
Gennie thanks the many friends of Amazement and her staff for supporting her this year.

So much so, the home is considered one of the Central Coast's most treasured heritage assets. The property is set on 25 acres, 8 of which are beautiful gardens. The garden features a gorgeous rotunda by the lake, a lovely Somesby pebble area and hand-made iron gates to lead you along the hedged dam bank. Home of Central Coast Carriages and beautiful Santosa Clydesdale Stud, guests can enjoy a ride in the newly imported Landau Carriage.

Family Festival Saturday 1st December at The Entrance
This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

Imogen and the Pirates
Sydney Opera House & Showqueen Productions presents

An All-Star cast and the writers who brought you the smash hit Fat Swan (Trevor Ashley and Phil Scott) team up with acclaimed director Craig Ilott (Smoke & Mirrors) to play an uproarious world premiere in the Studio from December 6-23. Ashley stars as little orphan Fannie, a ten-year-old with a terrible secret... one that she can’t even share with her inmates at the Sutherland Shire Girl’s Orphanage, let alone the badtempered showbiz has-been who runs the place: the drunken Miss Trannigan (Rhonda Burchmore). The truth is: Fannie is not yet all woman. But, to get her genderreassignment surgery, she’ll have to find her true birth parents to get their permission. Featuring songs, audience participation, and more parody than you can poke a stick at, this brand new adults-only panto will have you in fits of laughter... and have you wishing that you too could be adopted by a sexy bald millionaire. The Wind in the Willows Sydney’s favourite family entertainment is returning to the beautiful surrounds of Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. Kenneth Grahame’s immortal story of life on the riverbank is a rollicking yet gentle adventure, starring the pompous, arrogant, vain, hilarious Toad – a favourite with children everywhere. Toad, along with his better-behaved friends, Ratty, Mole, Otter and Badger, as well as the rascally Weasel, have come to life every summer for the past 12 years providing enchanting and lively entertainment for all the family. This critically acclaimed outdoor theatre production delivers music, songs and laughs. There is fun for young and old as the Head Chief Rabbit transforms the audience into rabbits with a waggle of the ears and a wiggle of the nose. With laughs and surprises for children and adults, this is interactive theatre at its best. So this summer pack a picnic, pack the kids... and head on down to the riverbank. When: Friday 4 to Sunday 27 January 2013 (6pm show only on Friday 4 January). 11am & 6pm Tuesday to Saturday (6pm show only on Saturday 26 & Sun 27 January) Where: The Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. Soon the pirates discover they’ve hijacked more than they bargained for; Imogen throws tantrums like Frisbees and cleverly has them all disguised as women obeying her orders! The freshest seafood on the Coast...
Rockpool Retreat Visiting the Central Coast this weekend the best find was definitely the Rockpool Retreat. This busy cafe is in a divine location. We sat on the verandah and immediately noticed the blankets to cover your legs if you feel cold. The staff were caring too and the menu was very reasonable. There is a reason they are so busy. With an extensive menu our food was fresh, delicious beef wraps with salad and the best chips on the coast. The smell of good coffee was delicious whilst our iced coffees drew envious glances. Service is swift and a wonderful singer caroused us as we ate. I recommend this Cafe to anyone who wants to enjoy a leisurely Breakfast, lunch or brunch all of which are served up until 5pm everyday. There is live music on Sundays, a book club, and all sorts of community based activities along with fresh local produce. This Cafe is essential on your 'must do' list and I am sure once you have been it will be on your favourites list. 8 Bush Street Norah Head. 0243974859. Carolyn Sinclair, Retired Chef, Old Courthouse Restaurant, Minmi.
Come and try our locally caught seafood. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays our boys Peter Mark and Blane, bring in their daily catch for Sue and staff to sell direct to the public. Snapper’ ocean jackets’ bream and trevally are plentiful, we also sell fresh local oysters and buy in Tasmanian and NZ salmon, ocean trout, and fresh crystal bay prawns or fresh tigers or kings (what ever is the best this week). Peter has been fishing for about 30 years and has plenty of experience, knowing where to place his traps, Mark is our youngest partner and is very knowledgeable also and Blane is our excellent deckey. Seacoast fishing moors their 16 mtr boat Spinnaway 11, from Pretty Beach wharf, where the boys can travel as far as 50 miles and find new territory, especially looking for Lobsters (season starts in Nov). Please call us anytime for updated catch info on: 43686160 Patanga Street, Kincumber

The Italian Restaurant Azzuro Blu Wharf, The Entrance. "What a lovely evening out. Although it was raining we were able to park within a few metres of Azzuro Blu Wharf, The Entrance where The Italian Restaurant, right on the Waterfront is situated. We were so well served, cold water on the table, a comprehensive wine list, friendly service along with authentic Italian food - it doesn't get much better than that. Oysters, sweet fresh Sydney Rock Oysters were shared by 3 guests at our table. They were succulent Mornay, Kilpatrick and Natural, whilst I enjoyed a Chicken Caesar Salad as an entree. Our main dishes were delightful. 2 of our party of 4 had the Scampi Alla Grillia dressed with lemon juice and garlic with rocket salad and shaved parmesan and cherry tomatoes. They thoroughly enjoyed the scampi, our other guest had the Enzo Prawns sauteed with garlic and chili in Napolitana sauce. While I admired the presentation and taste of their meals my favourite was definitely my own. Home made light, fluffy gnocci with a delicate cream sauce accompanied by Sauteed King Prawns and fresh Asparagus - it doesn't get much better than that. The menu is more exciting than standard Italian restaurants, a great way to relax and enjoy." Carolyn Sinclair, Retired Chef, Old Courthouse Restaurant, Minmi.

Inspired by the natural world, Richard captures the beauty that surrounds us that's often simply passed by. Focusing on the landscapes of the Central Coast Richard says; "A crucial element to capturing the landscape in all its glory is the use of light. Shooting at sunrise and sunset is essential in capturing images seldom seen and rarely repeated. Working with different formats is inevitable when trying to capture these varying scenes at their best. That is why I employ both the panoramic and traditional aspect of photography." Self taught, Richard sees photography as a learning curve that is always throwing up new challenges. With this is mind Richard will be offering day courses in photography in the new year. "Teaching the basics of photography and digital workflow, I hope to set my students on a course to understanding and enjoying the medium." All of Richard's photographs can be viewed and securely purchased online at www.rastanley.com.au or visit his gallery at; Lemon Tree Framing, 4 Henry Parry Drive, East Gosford Tel: 4324 1364 Open Mon-Fri 9-5 Sat 9-1 Closed 25th Dec-13th Jan 2013

John Earle Gallery John Earle has been painting coastlines for over 30 years. He is a Newcastle local having lived here all of his life, apart from a few years in Sydney, Norah Head and trips interstate and overseas. His painting style is known as photo realism and his exquisitely detailed paintings are often mistaken for photographs. He is well known in his home town of Newcastle, for painting its stunning beaches. John and his partner Amanda, opened a gallery in Merewether in 1994, to showcase a changing selection of John’s work; paintings, handmade screen prints, limited edition reproduction prints of his paintings, both on paper or as large canvases, hand painted
ceramics and botanical works. John’s work has been exhibited widely. He has painted many beautiful Sydney scenes, expansive Sydney Harbour panoramas, Palm Beach Headlands, Bondi Beach, Neilson Park, anywhere that is scenic. His work has been hung in the Wynne Prize (for landscape painting) at the Art Gallery of NSW. He has travelled from the Whitsunday’s down the east coast of Australia and along the Great Ocean Road easily finding subjects that he feels compelled to paint. The gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 12 noon to 5pm. www.johnearle.com.au

Australian Reptile Park Visit the Australian Reptile Park these holidays and you’re in for a monster of a good time! We have so many monsters, we’ve created Monster Month and the fun starts on December 27th. The star of Monster Month is Elvis, who at 5 metres long and over 500 kilos is the monster of all monsters! He’s Australia’s crankiest croc but we love him all the same. Elvis is fed at 1.30pm every day of the school holidays and one lucky person each day will be chosen to feed him. That’s right! One lucky visitor per day will actually have the spine tingling experience of entering his enclosure
and feeding him, supervised by our experienced keepers of course! You just need to be in the crowd at 1.30pm for your chance to feed the monster. We’re home to many wonderful and colourful monsters: Hugo is our giant Galapagos tortoise and his daily walks through the Park are very popular with adults and kids alike. We have monsters in our alligator lagoon too, with over 30 breeding males and females. The exciting annual nest raiding will be on again in early January; keep an eye on the website where we’ll announce the date. For more details and school holiday show time visit www.reptilepark.com.au
