Summer Decorating Now that the summer is back and we can start the outdoor living again it’s time to reassess your outdoor areas. There is nothing better than sitting under the trees on a warm summer night , watching the stars with a cool drink relaxing amongst the cushions. So where do you start? Just as a favourite chair's upholstery may inspire a room's colour scheme, a few dominant hues in your flora can anchor an area's composition. In the open-air living room shown , green-glazed pots are right at home, and the chartreuse of the plants is echoed in square pillows. Tones of blue and aquamarine in the surrounding foliage find their match in the remaining pillows and seat cushions, as well as in the wicker chair. Flowers sprouting through the limestone paving and the reddish tree trunks tie in the striped pillow. Don’t forget mixing the old with the new always adds warmth and cosiness. Find that special chair of nanna's in the shed, and start the décor for your summer dinner party with friends. You can always call by our shop for gathering some of the old and new pieces.

The benefits of a regular massage... Many people would agree that a massage will make you feel good mentally and physically. To educate my clients to maintain their wellbeing a regular massage will aid the body into feeling better. Emotionally when we are stressed with work or overwhelmed our mind is exhausted and will effect the body by feeling run down. Massage will revive the body to function at its full capacity to deal with daily life and activities. Muscles will become over tired with tension and aches and pains.

needs for their body and mind. A regular massage is entirely up to the client, weekly, fortnightly or monthly but we need to learn to listen to our bodies and to maintain our wellbeing. My loyalty to regular clients is every 4th visit will be a 90min treatment for the price of 60mins. Hope to see you all soon..

Last week the following email landed in my wife’s inbox.. “In brief introduction I am Mr.Perryman Reginald, Richard Krupka Owner PC Wrangler Are you a business minded person, can you uphold financial deal with utmost secrecy, sincerity and seriousness? Your ability to respond and co-operate with me, will be the beginning of more good financial deals between us.” It went on to promise significant financial gain for the right person, if they first outlaid a sum of money. For years we’ve been hearing stories of scammers and hackers so why people still being conned? With Christmas and New Year looming, let’s take another look at security and what you can do to ensure that you and your finances are protected. So what is a scam and what is a hack or are they the same thing? The short answer is a scam is generally something that will encourage you to hand over information. Whereas a hack, is more likely something such as a virus that will infiltrate your computer to obtain the information. Firstly and most importantly, if you receive an email out of the blue that seems too good to be true…IT IS! Scams like the email above, prey on desperation and greed and their sole aim is to take your money. Most commonly these scams will ask for a sum from you to unlock a larger amount in return. Once you hand over the initial amount of money, you will most likely never hear from Mr Perryman Reginald again! But not all scams are as easily identified. In the same week, my wife, received an email from her sister (with whom she works) with a Dropbox file sharing link. Assuming this was work related my wife clicked the link. The page appeared legitimate with Dropbox logo’s, it asked her to sign in with her email,

email password and phone number. And there are the red flags…the only login that requires your email and email password is your email account. By obtaining the above information, scammers would then be able to access additional personal information making the threat of identity fraud a very real possibility. Some important information to remember: • Banks, financial institutions and the ATO, will NEVER ask you to verify your personal information via email • DO NOT click on attachments, links or download files in emails unless you are confident of their origin. • NEVER provide personal information, passwords or bank account details via email, over the phone or enter them into a website unless you can absolutely verify the identity of the person asking. • Ensure that you always have current antivirus installed on your computer and run frequent diagnostic tests. If you believe you have been scammed or hacked change all your passwords, pin numbers and passcodes immediately. If money has been handed over or taken from your accounts, contact the police and your bank without delay. In many cases money has been found and returned. Finally have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year! We will be back in 2016 bringing you tips and news from the world of IT. The Carousel This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

What to See & Do The Pelican Feeding in The Entrance Memorial Park is a highlight of any visit. Daily at 3.30pm The Entrance Heritage Walk is one of the best on the Central Coast and visitors will also enjoy the Coast to Lake Walk. Vera’s Watergarden is a children’s water playground opposite the Pelican Feeding area

The Peninsula Ettalong Beach, Umina Beach & Woy Woy

The Peninsula a truly special place For those who live on the Peninsula, we all appreciate how truly special the area is with its safe and beautiful beaches, picturesque waterways, accessible National Parks, vibrant town centres, good transport and easy access to Sydney. Woy Woy is one of the busiest rail stations in New South Wales as locals commute to Sydney for work each morning and return each night to the relaxed Peninsula lifestyle. It is no wonder that more people choose to live and visit the Peninsula as they discover its wonderful attributes. Few places can boast one of the best ferry rides in Australia from Ettalong Beach to Palm Beach via the Palm Beach Ferry or the spectacular train ride from Woy Woy to Sydney via the Hawkesbury River. Nor can you ignore the wonderful Ettalong Beach Foreshore, the Woy Woy Waterfront or the many spectacular lookouts and National Parks. Without doubt our beaches are the cleanest and

safest on the Central Coast boasting Ettalong Beach, Umina and Ocean Beach, Pearl Beach and Patonga. Importantly, our town centres have become more vibrant with the bustling Umina Beach one of the busiest retail strip shopping centres on the Central Coast. This is supported by major shopping facilities in Woy Woy including Deepwater Plaza and Peninsula Plaza and boutique shopping in Ettalong Beach. In recent years we have seen the emergence of a great cafĂŠ culture and a range of high quality restaurants especially in the Ettalong Beach village centre. With great schools, terrific services and a full range of shopping centres, the demographics of the Peninsula are changing with young families and professionals moving in to complement our older population. No longer just somewhere to retire (and why not), the Peninsula has become a place for younger people to raise families and enjoy a lifestyle that is the envy of Sydney. Come visit the Peninsula and discover the reasons why others have chosen to make this area their home and a holiday destination.

I Just Can’t Believe It! I smoked for over 20 years. My health was not great and I was struggling with the cost of cigarettes. My wife hated me smoking and our daughter complained that I smelled like rotten eggs. I tried to stop many times but never lasted more than a few weeks. That was then; now it’s been over a year since I smoked; I feel fantastic, and I know I will never smoke again. As Cognitive Hypnotherapists we constantly receive this kind of positive feedback from our clients, not only for smoking but for many different issues. So Why Is Hypnotherapy So Effective? Even though we all have the ability for lasting change, we repeatedly fall back into our old habits; this is because the patterns in our sub-conscious mind have not changed. This is where hypnotherapy is so effective; it helps us rearrange and establish new sub-conscious patterns that permanently change our behaviour. The Subconscious Mind Is Very Powerful, but generally we make little conscious use of it. It’s a bit like driving a powerful motor vehicle without

your hands on the wheel; it easily goes out of control. Through Hypnotherapy we are able to utilize and direct the power of your sub-conscious mind to change those patterns and beliefs on a very deep level. It’s easy, powerful and quick and can save you many years of suffering. Can Anyone Be Hypnotized? Yes if they want to be. No one can be forced into a trance and no one will ever accept suggestions they don’t agree with. The purpose of hypnotherapy is not only to implant productive suggestions into the sub-conscious mind but to help rearrange ones thinking process in a way that supports the ongoing change. Hypnotherapy is finally coming of age and being recognized by doctors and medical authorities throughout the world as an effective and valuable resource for one’s ongoing health and happiness. Marine Rescue Central Coast

Inspect your boat before you go

Take a few minutes to make sure your boat is safe before you leave, to reduce the risk to you and your passengers whilst on the water. The majority of calls for help to Marine Rescue are from boaters in trouble because of motor problems, including running out of fuel. Explain safe boating to everyone on board before you go. Show your passengers where the safety equipment is kept and explain how to use it. At least one other person on board must know how to operate the boat in case of an accident. Should your boat even leave the dock? Check the hull, electrical, fuel, propulsion and cooling systems. Make sure the throttle and steering are OK. Check the oil, all hoses and lines for leaks or cracks. All clamps and belts must be secure and in good condition. Inspect, clean and replace spark plugs if necessary. Ensure the battery is fully charged. Is the bung is in place? Load your boat so that the gear and people is well distributed and balanced. Maintaining your boat, its engine and all equipment in good working order and inspecting before you go should ensure you always have a good day.

Woy Woy Little Theatre – the only non-musical community theatre group in the Gosford City Council confines – is emerging from both its busiest year and the most rewarding as audience response and numbers continue to rise. 2016 looks like being more of the same for the group based at the Peninsula Theatre in Woy Woy as they’ve just announced their 2016 Subscription Season which comprises a comedy/drama first staged just 14 years ago, a popular Australian comedy set during WWII, a classic thriller by the author of Dial M for Murder and an amusing farce from Alan Ayckbourn. First cab off the rank is Charlotte Jones’s Humble Boy, an intriguing piece possibly best described as an English Country Hamlet, with many nods to Shakespeare, aerodynamics and apiculture. Second show is Dinkum Assorted, a comedy by Linda Aronson and possibly the only play in the world written for a cast of fifteen women and a nanny goat! Set in an Australian country town biscuit factory during World War II the play shows how the all-female cast run a 'Mum’s Army' Civil Defence Unit and put on a show for the war effort. Frederick Knott’s second hit thriller Wait Until Dark is scheduled for August 2016 while Alan Ayckbourn’s Christmas farce Absurd Person Singular should send audiences home chuckling in time for the festive season. Subscription Season brochures are currently available at both the Peninsula and Laycock Street Community Theatres, as well as Libraries and Community Centres at Woy Woy, Umina Beach, Ettalong, Kincumber, Green Point, Erina, Gosford, Wyoming and Kariong. Non Subscription tickets will go on sale through Woy Woy Little Theatre’s website mid-January 2016. Peninsula Theatre, cnr Ocean Beach & McMasters Rds, Woy Woy. woywoylt.com.au. Shitbox Rally Australia partners with Spirit Of Tasmania for the first “Shipbox Rally” sailing across Bass Strait Shitbox Rally has teamed up with Spirit of Tasmania for the first ever sea crossing in the dedicated “Shipbox Rally”. Ferrying 200 cars worth less than $1,000, it will be a welcomed indulgence of comfort and style as 400 participants take shelter from driving their cars across Australia’s toughest roads. Since 2010, Shitbox Rally has raised over $6.1 million for cancer research, and has travelled through every state and territory on the country’s most challenging roads, with Tasmania being the final Australian frontier. Departing Melbourne at sunset, Shipbox Rally will sail towards Devonport, as the teams wave goodbye to the dusty tracks and glistening city lights of the mainland and discover the plush and modern surrounds of “The NEW Spirit of Tasmania” on the 429km crossing. In a rally renowned for river crossings, tough conditions and certainly no smooth sailings, it’s a welcome addition to the seven-day adventure. For Box Rallies Founder, James Freeman, the Tasmanian wilderness has long been beckoning and its beautiful, lush backdrop will be a welcomed addition to the dusty outback roads that Shitbox Rally usually frequents. The colourful convoy of teams will leave tropical Mackay, in Mid-North Queensland on 7 May and travel down

the length of Australia before taking on the rally’s most wicked water crossing – the Bass Strait. The cavalcade of brave Shitboxers will reach their final destination of Hobart on 13 May. The largest independent fundraiser for Cancer Council, Shitbox Rally is committed to raising funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. As James Freeman, founder of Box Rallies explains, “it’s through the support of organisations like Spirit of Tasmania, that Shitbox Rally can focus on what’s really important – the fundraising.” “The official “Shipbox Rally” is something Spirit of Tasmania is proud to support, especially as it is the first time the event is coming to Tasmania,” Spirit of Tasmania CEO Bernard Dwyer said. “It is a most worthwhile cause and we are looking forward to making the journey across an enjoyable and relaxing one for all of the participants.” To learn more, visit www.shitboxrally.com.au

Walkabout Park makes makes the Top 10 List! Lonely Planet has listed the Central Coast’s Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park as the 8th best animal adventure in the world! Our Walkabout Park is on the Top 10 list alongside places like the Galapagos Islands and Yellowstone National Park. And this world-ranked real life working wildlife sanctuary is right here on our doorstep. With 80 acres of fox-proof bushland, it is home to kangaroos, koalas, dingoes, pythons, wombats, devils and all their feathery, furry, spiky and scaly friends. Many of the animals have been rescued and can’t be released back into the wild to deal with people, dogs, cats and cars. Instead, they are safe with the rangers at Walkabout Park. Step into the animals’ world where you not only get a hands-on introduction to Australia’s weird creatures, but you can also feed the alpacas, cuddle the bunnies and meet their other

E

farmyard friends. Join in activities like boomerang throwing and animal encounters throughout the day, or set off with a map to explore the bush tracks and visit ancient Aboriginal sites, or hire your own personal ranger to take you behind the scenes. Or book a Wild Sleep Out full of ranger-led nightanimal encounters, with your choice of a private eco-cabin or family-sized tent with everything included. 100% of proceeds are spent on the animals and bush, so you are helping to save the planet just by visiting. We’re getting crazy about Crocodilians at the Australian Reptile Park! Australian Reptile Park icon “Elvis”, a 4.5 metre Saltwater Crocodile renowned to be Australia’s crankiest croc, will be fed daily during the school holidays. This is a thrill seeking experience demonstrating the strength of his snapping jaw, capable of crushing the skull of prey as large as a water buffalo! On January 8th, Elvis will turn 50 years old! This means he’ll be sharing his birthday with his namesake - the King of Rock and Roll himself, Mr Elvis Presley. Guests will be treated to the park’s own Rock and Roll show for the giant croc’s birthday, when keepers feed Elvis a special gift! However, Elvis isn’t the Park’s only crocodilian! Deadly and dangerous experiences extend into the park’s gator lagoon, home to 40 American Alligators! Their daily feeding during the school holidays consists of keepers entering the danger zone of the lagoon, and dangling their food over a walking plank, whilst tempting the giant reptiles to launch high out of the water for food – something not to be missed! For those looking for an up-close experience at the Park, our roving keepers will be wandering around with a variety of friendly critters for you to meet! This includes the special holiday series Dinosaurs Alive! where visitors have the

chance to meet the mighty Spinosaurus & Tyrannosaurus Rex and also participate in a Dino Dig! However, to really get up close and personal with our animals, guests can book Animal Encounters with either Tasmanian devil joeys, a komodo dragon or Hugo the Galapagos tortoise, BehindThe-Scenes tours and/or interactive Kids 2 Keepers programs. There’s always an additional cute factor during the holidays, and this time it’s the introduction of two new baby emus Zippy and Poker who will be out roaming amongst the free-range kangaroos for visitors to enjoy. The Australian Reptile Park is open daily from 9am until 5pm daily. The park is located at Somersby on the Central Coast of New South Wales, approximately a 60 minute drive from Sydney and Newcastle with complementary parking, and BBQ facilities. The Italian Restaurant Review Our party of five chose a scorching hot day in the middle of a heat wave, to visit Azzuro Blu Wharf at The Entrance. We were immediately refreshed by a Valley of the Giants Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2016, along with the amazing view of the Sea. The meal was outstanding! We had a great choice of seafood starters ranging from fresh oysters that tasted heavenly, stuffed squid with chorizo, chilli and breadcrumbs which was so tender and delicious, lightly battered calamari that melted in the mouth and also a wonderful fresh tomato bruschetta.

Main courses ranged from Scampi alla Grillia – beautifully grilled prawns - that were tasty and fleshy on a bed of rocket and parmesan salad, a traditional pasta Marinara which was subtly herbed with continental parsley, a whole champagne lobster Mornay that had a gorgeous cheese sauce, chicken Ripieni - tender chicken breast fillet that was filled with chorizo, ricotta and sundried tomatoes and had a tasty creamy masala, bacon and mushroom sauce. A lot of these great choices on the menu were suitable for

our gluten intolerant guests. We noticed other patrons Food enjoying a meat worth and seafood grill travelling for! that we wished we had ordered, (good reason to visit The Italian Restaurant again) as the quality of food is truly amazing all round. Desserts were fantastic, everyone loves gelato and we tried mango and passion fruit which were presented in beautiful cocktail glasses and which were consumed with relish. There was a delicious baci (Italian kiss) filled with a tasty hazelnut chocolate ice cream and a cannoli filled with a superb ricotta custard. Coffees were hot and of good quality served by Kaitlin, our attentive waitress. Congratulations to Kelly the manager for the way the establishment is run, as the food and service were excellent! We can’t wait to eat there again. Emilia Risi

Drinking is such an enjoyable part of life!

Well, we’ve discovered Alcofree. Restaurant Review

Food worth travelling for!

Barretts Restaurant at Magenta Shores There is no doubt that Magenta Shores is a great location for rest, relaxation and a good meal. Barretts Restaurant is another culinary showpiece from Executive Chef Paul Clune. It offers a wide variety of locally sourced food and both local and international beverages. Our party of three began our adventure with a glass of Veuve Ambal French champagne, recommended by our knowledgeable waitress Rebekah to complement the magnificent sunset viewed from our table. We had to have oysters to go with our champagne and they came with a choice of natural, wasabi gel with toasted sesame seeds or finger lime vinaigrette. For entrees we decided on the smoked Atlantic trout, with horseradish panna cotta, green apple gel and pickled cucumber (which melted in the mouth). The locally sourced and grown heirloom tomatoes in a consumé with fennel salad and sherry vinegar was delicious and my favourite was definitely the pan-seared scallops, braised baby gem, roasted speck with parmesan foam which was just the right combination of flavours. Rebekah selected a fabulous ‘In Dreams’ Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley to accompany our main courses. We chose Grilled barramundi in a shellfish broth with fondant potatoes and watercress. (Klara was more than content with this dish, as being gluten intolerant, she was able to enjoy it without a care.) There are so many delicious gluten free choices on this menu although Barretts do cater for many intolerences.

Emma chose the medium roasted lamb with salt baked celeriac, bonito smoked provolone cheese, broad beans and jus gras. It was tender and married well with the celeriac. I was delighted with the beef tenderloin with onion puree, Parisienne potatoes, turnip, carrot and zucchini, beef jus and very tasty puffed barley, it was a good example of the fine produce that we have locally. Desserts are always our favourite and we were not disappointed. There was the coconut and Thai tea panna cotta, mango salsa, lime and palm sugar syrup. An outstanding passionfruit curd with chocolate short bread, mandarin sorbet and freeze dried mandarins which was an experience for the taste buds. The last dessert was a delicious take on date pudding, with caramel sauce, vanilla bean ice cream and cinnamon crunch. While sipping hot coffee we concluded that Barretts was a truly wonderful dining experience and worth travelling for! The team of well trained staff led by Stephanie Van Loon is a credit to the establishment. Barretts current opening times are Fri and Sat nights 6 - 9.30pm and lunch 12.30 - 3pm Sat and Sun. However, just for the school holiday period it will open Mon - Sun for dinner 6 - 9.30pm and for lunch on Sat & Sun 12.30 - 3pm.

Five Lands in Plein Air

An exhibition of paintings by members of the Art Hall Crew and invited guests. Each artist has contributed two paintings: a plein air (outdoor) painting completed in situ at Terrigal and North Avoca as part of the 2015 Five Lands Walk day, and a painting completed at a later date that was inspired by the plein air painting.

Gallery Two: 6 February to 3 April

Cloth from Seeds to Bloom: 20 Years in the Making: Julie Paterson “I offer my art as fabric to be used in the home… I engage my audience by telling them stories of where my ideas come from… I find these stories in the landscape in which I live…” - Julie Paterson. Contemporary textiles commonly sit at the practical end of art and design. Cloth from Seeds to Bloom: 20 Years in the Making is comprised of Julie Paterson’s domestic textile objects which take the viewer on a journey from the humble seed through to the luscious bloom. Nine key textile groupings are broken into individual rooms, each displaying objects rich with pattern. 13 February to 16 March

Res/Object - Chris Dewar Minimal abstractionist, Christopher Dewar investigates the process of object making through two-dimensional wall-based works. Dewar is intrigued by how objects can signify social standing, create comfort, build relationships, represent spirituality and express personal identities. He uses various mediums to explore the relationship between humans and objects whilst exercising a simplified composition and a controlled palate.

TreeTop Adventure Park, offers self-guided highrope courses, which involves climbing through a series of challenging obstacles, such as rope-ladders, wobbly bridges, tunnels and cargo-nets and are interspersed with flying-foxes (zip-lines). These high-wire activities are progressive and designed to allow everybody to enjoy. The activities allow the whole family to enjoy a fun, healthy bonding experience in a wonderful forest without any special ability or knowledge. TreeTop Adventure Park is composed of courses comprising of between 10 to 20 challenges. A challenge is a way to move from one tree to the other at a height of up to 20 metres. Each course is customized to a particular age group and designed with graded difficulty so participants can progress safely, at their own rhythm. The Adventure Park is separated into two separate sections: The Children’s area is designed for children 3-9 years of age. It includes 4 courses (beginner, easy, medium and difficult). Children’s bookings are for a two-hour session. The Adult’s/Junior’s area is made up of 4 courses, which increase in height, difficulty and duration as participant’s progress through the levels in order. Once fitted with their safety equipment, participants attend a training session which includes a practice course. Once they have demonstrated that they are ready to go, they can start their big adventure. TreeTop Crazy Rider, Australia’s first tree based rollercoaster zip lines ramp up the WOW adventure factor as they swoop, twist, turn and zig zag through the trees in Ourimbah State Forest. The one kilometre long Crazy Rider Xtreme is an exhilarating rush for those who dare as it darts through the forest six storeys above ground with 40 corners including four 360 degree turns. The Pioneer is a softer, 350m long adventure filled with twists and dips and loads of fun. Both zip lines are fully accessible for people of all abilities including wheelchair users. Everyone can experience the rush of the Crazy Riders. www.TreeTops.com.au Ph2 4025 1008 Ourimbah State Forest - 1 Red Hill Road (off Yarramalong Road), Wyong Creek Nsw 2259
