Autumn on the Coast From the Editor
Welcome to the Central Coast for May & June
setting with some magnificent works. I am a big fan.
This time of the year is my favourite, crisp mornings and evenings, lovely warm days. This gives us the energy to enjoy all the time we can out and about.
Something else you should visit is the new “Central Coast Interactive War Exhibit” which is something to take the whole family to. An amazing Exhibition.
There is so much for you to choose in this issue that will have you busy every day, get out your highlighter and choose your days carefully. We have three new restaurants for you to visit, Busby’s Cafe at Wisemans Ferry, The Raw Deli at Woy Woy, Jasmine Greens at Umina. I have been tested and now know that I need to be on a FODMAP Diet. I am gluten, fructose and lactose intolerant; therefore I have found that all our Restaurants we promote in iMag will look after your dietary needs with plenty of notice, so tell them when you make your booking what your needs are. High Tea at the Forest of Tranquility will also cater to your needs. I love that this does not impact on my passion for food and we can be catered for with love. As you can see by our beautiful cover, Sculpture on the Greens is on again. This is something you should try to see, in such a lovely

Our clubs, galleries and theatres have wonderful programmes to satisfy even the most fastidious among us. I want to ask you when you’re out and about or you make your bookings, please let our advertisers know you saw them in iMag; it does help us to know that what we do works for you. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all you wonderful Mums. Take your Mum somewhere special, we have some amazing Gardens, Parks or Picnic grounds for you to enjoy. May you always have love to share, health to spare and friends who care.

The Value of Mirrors Mirrors have uses in the home decorating, besides the obvious one. They open space, reflect light and add interest enhancing your décor. However, there are a few rules.
Mirrors in halls and stairways act to widen space and create a better flow between rooms. Using a mirror as a major focal point also works well. The bigger and Grander the space allows the better.
Mirrors need to be placed in appropriate places, for instance Using mirrors for ‘reflection’, is adding appeal, but not if it is reflecting clutter or work areas.
At Deborah Buckley Artisan we have a selection of lovely mirrors,if you can’t find the one you want, chat to us and we will find the one for your needs.
Make sure that it is reflecting something worthy. Also thinking of areas that are task driven like the kitchen and bathroom, try to use as few as possible, as you will be creating a lot of extra work in keeping them clean.
Deborah Buckley Artisan 1629A Yarramalong Rd, Yarramalong Phone: 4356 1958
Also remembering the rules of “FENG SHUI”, avoid mirrors in your bedroom as this can bring too much of the water element into your room, which is associated with sorrow. A mirror facing the bed can interfere with personal energy. Mirrors over a fireplace for instance is good feng shui as the water energy balances the fire element. It is also good feng shui to have mirrors at your Entrance, which offers a welcoming feeling.

World War One remembered in music Central Coast Chorale presents a memorial program of music inspired by World War One at St Patrick’s Church, East Gosford, 2pm Sunday 17 May. Titled, ‘1915: God, King and Country’, the forty-voice choir, which features local Central Coast singers and led by music director, Christopher Bowen OAM, perform stirring anthems that motivated men to enlist to reflections of sadness of the war's toll on human lives. The Chorale will perform haunting excerpts from Bowen’s 2014 critically acclaimed, ‘War Requiem’. Elke Hook, Mangrove Mountain resident, and Sean Le Breton from Narara, will feature as soloists in a piece written especially for the concert by local composer, Shayne Leslie of Elke Hook, stunning Wyoming, based on John 15:13. soprano featured in The Chorale will perform the Chorale
England’s other national anthem, ‘Jerusalem’, which was specifically written by British composer, Sir Hubert Parry at the request of poet, Robert Bridges in 1916 to “brace the spirit of the nation [to] accept with cheerfulness all the sacrifices necessary.” Other songs featured include Henry Purcell’s ‘Thou Knowest Lord’, Charles Stanford’s ‘A Song of Battle’, John Ireland’s ‘Greater Love Hath No Man’ and Vaughan Williams’‘O How Amiable’. Concertgoers will get a glimpse of how music stirred patriotism amongst civilian Australians and encouraged them to enlist for God, King and country. It is a must for those who want to honour and remember the fallen. Tickets are on sale through the Chorale’s website or available at the door. The group rehearses Wednesday nights and new members are always welcome. Contact Anne Darlington for more information on 02 4307 9355.

During the event, other exhibitions will be offered under the umbrella of Sculpture on the Greens, including Bobby P Fine Art Gallery in Wyong and Forest of Tranquility. It's Shitbox Rally It began as a near impossible dream and is now the largest private Cancer Council fundraiser in Australia, raising more than $4.8 million dollars and counting. After losing both his parents to cancer 12 months apart, South Australia’s James Freeman decided to take action to fight the disease, creating a unique and challenging way to raise money and awareness. So began Shitbox Rally – a challenge to drive cars worth $1,000 or less across Australia via some of its most arduous dirt tracks imaginable to raise money for cancer research. In a world premiere documentary airing May the 9th on Nat Geo People, join the fifth annual Shitbox Rally filmed in 2014. Armed with nothing but their shitboxes, gaffer tape and a whole lot of courage, the teams began the trip of a lifetime in Perth and headed north stopping by Meekatharra, Marble Bar and Broome before heading into The Kimberly and arriving in Darwin on the longest and most challenging Shitbox Rally yet.

The Carousel This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.
What to See & Do The Pelican Feeding in The Entrance Memorial Park is a highlight of any visit. Daily at 3.30pm The Entrance Heritage Walk is one of the best on the Central Coast and visitors will also enjoy the Coast to Lake Walk. Vera’s Watergarden is a children’s water playground opposite the Pelican Feeding area

The Bogan Song Cycle 2015 Central Coast Tour Musical Cabaret at its finest comes to the coast. Dorian Mode and Andrew Wilkie are the hilarious Bogan Song Cycle, musical comedy cabaret. After their spectacular success at Sydney Fringe and the prestigious Adelaide Fringe’s Spiegel Tent, the boys bring their hit show home to the Central Coast.
The Bogan Song Cycle is the brainchild of Dorian Mode. A proud Coastie, when not holding up the bar of his local fishing club, Dorian is often found out and about the Coast fishing,

He’s also the first person in Australia to have a doctorate in Bogans! Andrew Wilkie, (virtuoso vibraphonist and composer of Tap Dogs) and local chippie from Avoca Beach, accompanies Mode to perform sublimely smooth music with droll lyrics and descriptive storytelling unveiling bogan lifestyles. Bring It On The Musical Saturday 27 June – Thursday 9 July Bitingly relevant, sprinkled with sass, and inspired by the hit film, Bring It On The Musical takes audiences on a high-flying journey filled with the complexities of friendship, jealousy, betrayal and forgiveness. Bring It On The Musical will have its Australian Premiere at NIDA Theatres, Kensington playing from Saturday 27 June to Thursday 9 July 2015. Bring It On The Musical tells the story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill of extreme competition when rival high school cheer squads perform explosive dance and aerial stunts, tumbling and flipping across the stage, performing elaborate routines culminating in towering formations of human pyramids. A colourful cast of 27 bright, young performers, including cheer-royalty Campbell, captain of the Truman High School cheer squad, is suddenly forced to spend her final year of high school at the neighbouring, hard knock Jackson High School. Despite having the deck stacked against her, Campbell befriends the dance crew girls and, along with their headstrong and hardworking leader Danielle, manages to form a powerhouse

Fault Lines An international collaboration between two nations, who have experienced the devastation, loss, and ongoing after effects of an earthquake. Fault Lines depicts the human response to the devastating earthquakes in Christchurch and the Sichuan province of China. The show had its world premiere at the Melbourne Festival in October 2012 in a unique collaboration between New Zealand choreographer Sara Brodie and China’s Sichuan province-based Leshan Song & Dance Troupe. Together they crafted an intimate, personal response to explore shared earthquake experiences by combining traditional Chinese dance and culture with contemporary dance.
Undressed:
350 years of underwear in fashion at Powerhouse Museum Organised by the world’s leading museum of art and design, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and features more than 80 garments from the V&A’s extensive collection of underwear, many which have never before been on public display. Highlights include Queen Victoria’s undergarments, one of the earliest known bras, and many rare, delicate and beautifully detailed items worn by some of the world’s most glamorous women. Men’s underclothes will also be shown, as will everyday essentials by major retailers such as Marks
On a quiet spring afternoon in 2008, an earthquake measuring eight on the Richter scale devastated the Sichuan province of China, killing over 69,000 people. It was a natural disaster on such a scale that defied imagination – but for millions of Chinese survivors, there was nothing for it but to pick up the pieces and carry on. The earthquake hit with intensity, and inflicted fear, trauma, and not only the loss of loved ones, but the loss of inner peace. The choreography and the dancers take the audience on the roller coaster journey that follows this event. In a dance of rare technical prowess, Fault Lines is a sincere elegy to those lost, and a stirring tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. www.faultlines.co

Peninsula Theatre Woy Woy
Lovers at Versailles Opening May 15 at the Peninsula Theatre If you look closely at the promotional material Woy Woy Little Theatre has created for its next production, Lovers at Versailles, you’ll probably notice that one of the characters seems to be fading away. The character is Stephen Sullivan, and there’s a reason for his transparency. He recently passed away. Stephen, played by Woy Woy Little Theatre stalwart John Hickey, admits this is the first time he’s been asked to play a ghost. “Well, not a proper ghost” he laughed. “My character Stephen has just died as the play gets underway and arrangements are being made for the funeral. “Some people come to pay me their last respects but my passing causes some unpleasantness in the family home,” he teased. “It seems a few personal letters are discovered… letters which Stephen probably should have destroyed years ago,” said John. There are time differences throughout the two act play with scenes played that occurred up to ten years ago before reverting to the current time. But it will be easy to differentiate the time changes. Lovers at Versailles is written by Bernard Farrell and directed by John’s wife, Barbara Hickey, both of whom have been involved with the WWLT company for more than 50 years.
The play examines the plight of three women who are left behind when Stephen Sullivan suddenly dies. His wife, Clara, always suspected that Stephen had a hidden life. His daughter Isobel is determined to use every 44

opportunity to move up the social ladder and Anna, Stephen’s favourite daughter, is now offered a second chance at happiness. The cast includes Shea Wicks as Stephen’s wife Clara, Tiffany Duncan as younger daughter Isobel and Judi Jones as Anna. Other characters in the play include David O’Gorman (Mark Shaw), Tony (Rohan Smith), Stephanie (Chris Cherry), supported by Troy Clune, Patricia Nissen and Renee Chinn. Lovers at Versailles will open on at the Peninsula Theatre in Woy Woy Friday night May 15 and run for a three weekend 10-performance season before closing on Sunday May 31, 2015.
Reviews: “Lovers at Versailles is another notch on the author’s maliciously funny gun… tenderly triumphant.” – Sunday Independent. WWLT at The Peninsula Theatre Corner of McMasters and Ocean Beach Road, Woy Woy NSW 2256 Bookings: www.wwlt.com.au

Food worth travelling for
The Italian Restaurant "foodie heaven" Azzuro Blu Wharf, The Entrance
“A restaurant experience so complete, it was "foodie heaven"! A little taste of The Mediterranean right on the waterfront at Azzuro Blu Wharf in The entrances' restaurants hub. The Italian Restaurant offers delicious regional fare with a seafood bias. We chose a mix of traditional dishes, succulent garlic and chilli prawns served in a rich spicy tomato sauce, beautifully balanced salt and pepper calamari accompanied by the freshest of fresh rocket and shaved parmesan salad. Entrees not to be forgotten. Mains were equally delicious, tender lamb backstrap; gnocchi deftly prepared in a variety of different tasty sauces and grilled scampi beautifully prepared.
Food worth travelling for! As was expected, desserts were a treat to round off a truly scrumptious meal. Menu options would be a staple in most high end city restaurants and were completely supported by a comprehensive bar and wine list, quality ingredients, highly skilled culinary expertise along with delightful professional service. An added bonus was a Piano Accordionist serenading diners with Italian inspired compositions further enhancing the warm summer evening's atmosphere. A more memorable dining experience would be hard to find in this vicinity. Regular return visits are now definitely on our dining out agenda. Penny Martin Always seeking a "good food experience"

Non Alcoholic Drinks from Alcofree
the same sophisticated taste, your choice of drinks is pathetic. And this poor choice even extends to restaurants, pubs and clubs.
Drinking is such an enjoyable part of life!
Well, we’ve discovered Alcofree. At Alcofree they believe in offering drinkers and nondrinkers a choice – a choice of a growing range of non-alcoholic and alcohol free beverages to suit every occasion and almost every palate. Their range of nonalcoholic beers, wines, ciders, cocktails and more is the best you will find.
Almost all of our social occasions include drinks of some kind, and at the end of a long day’s work it’s hard to beat the relaxing feeling of a lazy refreshing drink. And who doesn’t enjoy a long cool drink with their meal or when vegging-out in front of the entertainment box? The range of drinks available to us is huge, both at the supermarket and the bottleshop. Huge that is if you drink alcohol or are happy with sugary water-based drinks. But if you don’t drink alcohol, or are cutting down, and want

Bistro 14 gold star dining experience! The Hardy’s Bay Club has had a makeover of great proportions and has new owners that do not mind letting the professionals they have hired run the show and they sure can.
Their menu features fresh ingredients sourced locally where possible, especially the seafood, house-baked breads and daily specials, which make for a very interesting menu.
We started with the freshest local oysters and the mushroom arancini balls with grilled eggplant: tight balls of al dente rice with a crunchy crust that had us wanting more, they were wonderful. “One of the best we have eaten” Emma had the king prawn orecchiette pasta with chilli, lemon, cherry tomatoes and garlic & rosemary crumbs so delicious. I had barramundi with a crisp crunchy skin & vegetables. The skin was like crackling, the fish tender, moist and totally mouth-watering. Emily had the Thai beef salad with crispy noodles and toasted cashews; I had to have a taste as it looked so good. It was just absolutely the most delicious dish, eaten very rare as she likes it and I do to. The beef was aromatic, tender and just won me over completely. Food The servings were so generous we worth skipped desert: we will have to try travelling for! them on our next visit.
We were ready to order, after changing our minds several times as there was so much we wanted to try.
Bistro 14 has a gold star from us; this is definitely “FOOD WORTH TRAVELING FOR”
There are many changes already and more to come. Emma and I joined Emily Carryer the Club Coordinator for dinner on a Saturday night. We arrived at 5.45 and to our surprise the car park was already quite full. There were families here for dinner, visitors ready for a great night of food and entertainment and locals proud to have a place they can call their own. This night a blues band was playing and they were so good, it wasn’t long before we were bopping to the music. Emily is gorgeous and will look forward to meeting you, lovely smiling faces will greet you at the bar or seat you to a table in the dining room. Actually the Club is set up so you can dine wherever you choose, outside on the deck or anywhere inside. Bistro 14’s team is led by Damien Battye, former Head Chef at Audrey’s, Macmasters Beach and a recipient of a SMH Chefs Hat. Not many of them on the Coast so you know you are in good hands.

Social Media The Basics The last 10 years or so has seen the rise of social media usage on the internet. In many homes and businesses across and Australia and the world, Richard Krupka social media has become Owner PC Wrangler a staple in the everyday lives of users. It has allowed for the spread of education, information and discussion as well as allowing millions of users to connect with like-minded individuals and groups. Over the next few issues we will be taking a closer look at social media. What it is, how to stay safe, and finally how to best utilise these tools in both a personal and business setting. But let’s start with what IS social media? Put very simply, social media is a broad term for the websites and applications that allow users to interact and share content with one another. For this article series, we will be taking a very basic look at one area of social media called ‘social networking’. Social networking allows users to share private information and connect with each other on a more personal level. Think pen pal. Probably the most popular and well known social networking site is Facebook. Facebook is a multi-functional site that allows the user to create a profile and share photos, thoughts, information and events. These profiles can be shared privately with a select group of people or publicly with anyone in the world. Essentially Facebook is your life on a screen. Where Facebook is your life on a screen, blogging is your diary much like a personal website. A blog is written in a chronological and conversational style and may be about a specific interest or just about your life in general. Like Facebook blogs may contain photos and thoughts but because it is a personal website is much less rigid in its structure. Blogger is a site where you can create and store your personal

blog without the need to employ or understand web site development. This is where social networking meets the corporate world. LinkedIn is a space for professionals to share their resumes and experience. Further to that, it also allows colleagues, associates and customers to rate their experiences dealing with you and your business. It can provide great insight and be a great time saver when seeking a professional or interviewing prospective employees. Facebook, Blogger and LinkedIn are three sites to name just a few. There are many other types of social networking sites from picture and video sharing to gaming and the majority of them, including the three we talked about are free to sign up and begin sharing. Although we have looked at the positives of social networking, it can also have a dark side. In the next issue we will look at security and how to protect yourself while using social media.

Convict Footprints on the Old Great North Road is an award winning play that is performed in remote bushland on the convict built road in Dharug National Park, within the Gosford LGA. Considered the most spectacular section of the road and the only World Heritage listed area on the Central Coast, Devines Hill comes to life with this theatre performance. This immersive, ‘theatre in the wild’ takes its audience on a journey back to the 1830s when times were tough and the act of stealing a handkerchief could get you life in “god forsaken Australia”. The play engages audiences in a way that no ordinary visit to the road can do. Script writer, Stephen Hopely and Director Jerry Retford have combined the tortured stories of these men with what has become known as “good old Aussie humour” to tell the story of building this historically significant road. LIMITED SEASON: 2nd, 3rd, 16th and 17th May 2015. Tickets from www.ticketbooth.com.au, search ‘convict’. www.convictfootprints.com.au
