Mud, Sport & Cars – all on the Central Coast! It’s not often you’re encouraged to get down and dirty, but that’s exactly the opportunity available on the Central Coast this month! Two ways you can do this are the Raw Challenge Mud Run on October 13 at Doyalson, and the Adrenathon at Glenworth Valley on the same weekend. Both provide an exciting, adrenaline pumping and challenging course to test your fitness, agility, strength and stamina… so pick one and register now to get amongst the mud and fun! If you prefer to watch, then you should get to Australia’s most stunning stadium, Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium, where the Central Coast Mariners are back in action from October 14 hosting their first home match of the season against Perth Glory. The Mariners play 13 home games at the waterside Gosford venue between October and March, so make sure you catch a few throughout the season. The Central Coast Rugby 7’s at Kanwal on the last weekend of October will also present an opportunity
to watch international talent right here on the Central Coast. Toward the end of the month, it’s all about the grease! On the weekend of October 26-28, Chromefest returns to The Entrance for the annual weekend of show and shine, live entertainment and old fashioned rock’n’roll culture! Again – if you prefer to just watch, then you can’t miss the Gosford Musical Society’s production of Grease, showing at Laycock Street Theatre from October 26 through to November. With several market and community fair events scattered throughout October, there’s something for everyone this October on the Central Coast.

Marine Rescue Terrigal Marine Rescue Terrigal is one of the smaller Marine Rescue units in the Central Coast region. Size however, is not a significant issue, since service to the community and the safety of life in a marine environment are the reasons for its existence as a voluntary organization. Size of membership does not restrict Marine Rescue Terrigal in its essential duties of risk response in a marine area ranging from Box Head in the South, to Norah Head in the north, approximately 20 nautical miles (37.04 km) and 30 nautical miles (55.5 km) seawards, which amounts to an area of 1111.2 sq km of sea surface. During fundraising activities within the community, which are necessary for the unit's survival, a larger number of members would be of advantage as through more members and supporters fundraising would be more effective. New Members are always welcome and contact can be made via the Marine Rescue N.S.W. website. Patron is the honourable Chris Hartcher MP.

Creative Moods Stained Glass Studio Creative Moods Stained Glass Studio is now back in full swing after a taking a break whilst Alison was in Europe to investigate new and old trends in the glass world. First stop was Mornico Losana, Italy to work with world renowned glass artist, Miriam di Fiore, for the opportunity to work in her private studio and concentrate fully on the ‘Painting with Light” concept/technique of fusing glass. As a result portraiture in glass is something we are going to develop further. Then it was on to Murano, Venice, to catch up with old friends and to be invited to think about running some classes there in the not too distant future. This is a very exciting project currently under investigation. An 18 hour train trip ending in a ferry ride saw Alison arrive in Malta, (that’s a story in itself ) here she met with the founder of Valetta Glass and was given a private tour of his glassmaking facility.

In this fast, busy and noisy world which we live, I found a place of peace. Where the silence allows you to think, A place to inspire and be inspired. A place where artists, poets and writters reside A place that nurtures and feeds the soul. This is a place I wanted my clients to experience, a place for them to feel welcomed, at home, and free to make all of their creative decisions, in a place that feeds the inspiration. This place so special to me, where the search was not too long, my shop was there waiting... Sleeping for some time. A lovely old heritage shop, with the old fashioned shop windows, yearning to be adorned with special treasures to be admired. Come see our showcase of special finishes, our kitchen and vanity displays as well as a range of home furnishings. Or phone for an appointment for all of your decorating needs, I have a network of painters, upholsterers, curtain makers and joiners, all with the philosophy “ Be the best, Do the best”. Come and be amazed and inspired, where the old and the new intertwine with ease and care, and feel the warmth of age.

Innocent Eyes Photography A world apart from typical studio portraits, we create natural photographs that leave you feeling… Innocent Eyes Photography provides an affordable photography experience to local families. We are utilising the beauty of water on the Coast, the magic of the mountains and warmth of farms in the Hunter and loving every moment of it. The most essential part of creating a memorable portrait is nature in her purest form. The innocence of a child comes alive in the environment and we pride ourselves in capturing the world in which that beauty integrates and reigns. Innocent Eyes is a family business and with our four year old son we have developed as a young family to merge with Justin’s fifteen years experience as a photographer. Together, these attributes enable us to guarantee we will provide you with service that is warm and photographs that are exceptional. Relationship is core essential and we look forward to building one with you. In conjunction with Monthly iMag, Innocent Eyes Photography is offering a family portrait session to one lucky family! We look forward to receiving your competition entry! From our family to yours… Justin, Caryn and Lawson Aveling.
Win a Portrait Session! You could win a family portrait session, three 5x7” matted prints and a magnificent 16 x 20” framed print on our new watercolour paper stock and floated in a white box frame. Please send your name, address and contact details on the back of an envelope to PO BOX 589 Toukley 2263 or email info@ innocenteyesphotography.com
Learn how to ‘trick’ your point and shoot into doing what YOU want. By Justin Aveling Innocent Eyes Photography The traditional point and shoot camera was designed largely to be used in Auto mode where it makes the decisions about what settings to choose. Having said this, even the most basic entry level point and shoot digital camera comes with a variety of shooting modes which give you the ability to tell the camera what situation you’re shooting in and what type of photo you’re hoping to take. If you’re looking for shallow depth of field (ie. your foreground and background blurry- see example below) shoot in Portrait mode as this will trigger your camera to choose a wider aperture. If you’re looking for a wider depth of field (ie everything in focus) shoot in Landscape mode where the camera selects small apertures in this mode. If you’re looking for a fast shutter speed choose ‘Sports’ mode as in this mode it’s assuming you want to freeze fast moving subjects. Of course none of these modes allow you to get specific about the settings your camera chooses but they do give you a bit more control than you might think you have. I look forward to sharing more tips with you next month. Happy shooting! info@innocenteyesphotography.com www.innocenteyesphotography.com

The Carousel This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

We source our ingredients from local suppliers and make our ice cream on-site following a traditional formula. Available from our shop at The Entrance or from our butterscotch coloured, mobile coffee and ice cream cart found at many local markets. LICKS can cater for customers with special dietary requirements. Our fruit based sorbets are not made with dairy, all our ice cream and yoghurts are egg free and most of our flavours are gluten free. If ice cream is not your thing but you still crave a rich creamy treat – we make our own fudge too! LICKS proudly drink, serve and recommend Morgan’s Handcrafted Coffee. Roasted at the base of the Blue Mountains and sourced using Fair Trade Principles. We grind Morgan’s Handcrafted Coffee on-site once you have ordered. We choose to use their M-Organic and Swiss Water Decaffeinated coffee blends and their organic drinking chocolate.
