April is art month and the coast provides a wonderful canvass for a range of visual and performing arts all designed to stimulate your emotions and imagination. Arts activities begin on 1 April at The Gosford Regional Art Gallery where everyone can pickup a brush and try their hand at watercolour painting – this free activity is open to all ages. 6 April sees the start of the annual ‘Sculptures on the Green’ (sculpturesonthegreeen.net.au). Set on the grounds at Mecure Kooindah Waters Resort, this event running until 26 May, provides a wonderful environment for exhibiting large outdoor sculptures. On 7 April, selected artists fling their studio doors open as part of the 5 Lands Arts Trail (5landsarttrail.com). This great initiative allows you the opportunity to view their creative space and chat directly with the artist to discover their inspiration. The weekend of 13 and 14 April showcases local handmade arts and crafts. Wyong Race Club hosts the

Marine Rescue NSW Most people on the Coast have heard of Marine Rescue, and because of the descriptive name have an idea of what it does, but few of them have any idea of ‘how, when and why’. Marine Rescue Central Coast Unit based in Goodaywang Reserve at the end of Kurrawa Avenue Point Clare has an open house programme to help groups gain a better understanding of what is involved and how it all works. Many groups have visited the base over the past twelve months. The unit has hosted Rotary, Lions, Apex and Retirement Village dinners, VIEW, Probus and Walking Group lunches and morning teas. The Unit has a presentation outlining the history and operations of Marine Rescue. Visiting groups are able to inspect the marine radio room and meet the volunteer operators, and then check out the unit’s rescue boats. Depending on the group’s requirements the unit will provide morning tea, lunch or dinner. Enquiries about a Group visit may be made with the Unit Commander, Pat Fayers, by calling 4325 7929

Bushcare Program Seeking Volunteers In the Gosford Bushcare Program, people from the community volunteer their time to come along and help restore areas of their local bushland. The program is open to anyone from the community and there are groups throughout the Gosford area. You can choose which of the locations and meeting times suit you, with most groups meeting once per month for 2-3 hours. You are welcome to try out some of the different groups to find one that you feel most comfortable with. The social side of being a Bushcare volunteer is equally rewarding, especially when sharing a cuppa with homemade treats after tackling weeds. When you join a group more often than not you'll make friends with a like minded group of people that find reward in doing something practical for the bushland reserves close to where they live. As a Bushcare volunteer you will become a part of a larger network of people who like to stay healthy, happy and want to contribute to positive change all over Australia.

For Donations: Westpac Bank BSB 032-629 A/C no:20-3039

If you want to volunteer and help to restore Gosford’s beautiful bushland there’s bound to be a group to interest you. To find out more about the Bushcare Program contact Council’s Bushcare Officers Anna Deegan or Michael Smith from Monday to Friday between 9am – 3pm on 4325 8222 or go to Council’s website at www.gosford.nsw.gov.au

Seacoast Fishing The freshest seafood on the Coast... Our commercial fishing business has been operating from Kincumber for the past 8 years and we have the freshest fish in town, straight from the boat to our shop, which is located 400mtrs from the scenic road roundabout towards Macmasters Beach. Our catch consists of Snapper, Ocean Jackets, Bream trevally, mullet (which is the catch of the month!) and Lobsters. We also have local Oysters, school prawns and a variety of frozen products. As our weather cools and the westly winds start, mullet season begins for us April and May, this happens each year when the mullet schools up in big patches coming out of our estuaries and they travel to the sea, this is where our licensed boys use the hauling nets to catch some, most of the mullet schools head straight out to sea, but some travel along the coastline for a while, these are the fish the boys try to catch. Mullet has the best omega 3 oil content, which is so good for us, flavour is strong, but a great fish to eat (our favourite). Fresh is Best! We are open thurs, fridays 11am to 6pm and saturday 9am to 6pm. More info on: 43686160 Patanga Street, Kincumber

Sculpture in the Greens A new egalitarian model, exhibiting contemporary outdoor sculpture held at Kooindah Waters Golf and Spa Resort, Wyong during April and May 2013. GALA OPENING NIGHT 5PM 5 APRIL, with entertainment, wine tasting and a great party atmosphere. ‘Sculpture on the Greens’ subscribes to the belief that Art should be considered an opportunity for expression, rather than a subjective competition. ABOUT THE EXHIBITION The entries have been selected with a very high caliber, pointing towards an interesting, contemporary exhibition with a diverse and eclectic range of sculptures assembled for the exhibition. The exhibition is not a competition, as art is a subjective and personal expression of ones passion. With this in mind, 6 high profile selectors from different backgrounds in sculpture will be chosen to recommend the major stipends.

Little Creek Cheese Where to find the best Haloumi Outside of Cyprus...

Russell Parsons, owner and Cheese maker said “It’s satisfying to know all the hard work has paid off." He also stated “we know it is the best but to get the recognition from the cheese judges is the icing on the cake." Their Haloumi is all hand made from cow’s milk, which they receive from the Riverina area. It’s made fresh, sold fresh and has a wonderful texture and flavour but does not go as rubbery as other ones that are on the market.

The Judges of the 2013 Sydney Royal have awarded Central Coasts own Cheese Factory “Little Creek Cheese” a Gold Medal for their BBQ Cheese (Haloumi). The only one issued in this class. Up against large companies that specialize in Haloumi from around Australia, the local family claimed the title.

Located in the Old Milk Factory at Wyong, Russell and Sue work 7 days a week with the help of Sues’ son Alex, to produce their Haloumi, Fetta’s, Soft Curd, Ricotta and Labna for their customers to enjoy.

Deborah Buckley Artisan “Let’s put a little bit of Feng Shui in our lives” Feng Shui helps us to create a harmonious living and working environment. A good place to start is the front door to your home. Stand outside and look at what it faces and what surrounds it. Is there too much clutter? What about cobwebs and dust? The front door is the entrance to your home! The cleanliness and tidiness of your entrance has a great deal of influence on the qi (which is the energy) being bought into your home. A clean and uncluttered front entrance will allow good qi in, bringing good luck and opportunities. An uncared for front entrance does not encourage good qi. What does your front door face? Is it something beautiful, such as a lovely garden, a nice wide open space, or a driveway, or noisy intersection. Some good Feng Shui cures could be using a bagua mirror above the front door, or planting a pretty hedge to help slow down the qi. Enhancing your front door with a “welcome” mat. Plants on either side of your door in nice pots (avoid spiky leaves) And keeping the area well lit and clear of clutter will help to bring in opportunities and good “Feng Shui” into your life.

The Memory of Water “Wickedly amusing ..... blackly humourous ........ a clever tragi-comedy” ..... these are all words used to describe Wyong Drama Group's opening play of the 2013 season the funny, but moving, “The Memory of Water”. Written by Shelagh Stephenson in 1996, and receiving the Laurence Olivier Award for best new comedy in 2000, it portrays three sisters as they gather for their mother's funeral and the interplay between them as each deals with the situation in her own way.

Danielle Morrison Studio – Gallery CONTEMPORARY ART & COLLECTABLES Well we are well and truly up and running and looking forward to seeing everyone again after a really long break due to little pests under the floor!!! We opened with a bang and had a fantastic turn out.

The play was written soon after the death of the playwright's mother and although not biographical, Stephenson says she recognised the potential for setting the play at a time when emotions are intense and memories abound. There are many comical scenes as the sisters recollect their childhood - although often not in exactly the same way! There are times of sadness, too, as “secrets” are revealed, some of which have had long-lasting personal effects. Director Ron Baker has been fortunate in being able to draw on the experience of a number of Wyong Drama Group's longest serving and best known actors, as well as some newer faces, to portray this somewhat dysfunctional, yet nevertheless, endearing family. Also described as “well crafted and entertaining”, comparisons have been made by a number of critics, to similar themes in works by Chekhov, Shakespeare, Hannie Rayson and Woody Allen!

So good to see all the familiar faces again and such a warm response to reopening, thank you to all those special people. Klara, you are the best!

A mature adult comedy - not to be missed.

Bookings - online NOW www.wyongdramagroup.com.au or phone the booking helpline 4353 4353 from 25th March.

So look forward to lots of visits! Trading hours: Tuesday to Friday 10am - 4pm and weekends by appointment Ph 0400345291 danielle.morrison@hotmail.com

This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

He is currently completing his PhD examining the Artist/Sitter relationship in Contemporary Portrait Painting. AT LAST... The Etta That's Entertainment James Story The Addams Family THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story and it's every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren't upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he's never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents. In a prolific career spanning six decades, Charles Addams created several thousand cartoons, sketches and drawings, many of which were published in The New Yorker. But it was his creation of characters that came to be known as The Addams Family that brought Addams his greatest acclaim. With a unique style that combined the twisted, macabre and just plain weird with charm, wit and enchantment, Addams’ drawings have entertained millions worldwide and served as the inspiration for multiple television series and motion pictures. Performance Times Evenings: Sunday 6pm; Wednesday 7pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday 8pm Matinees: Wed 1pm; Saturday 2pm; Sunday 1pm Bookings: ticketmaster.com.au or 1300 723 038 www.addamsfamilythemusical.com.au

Vika Bull, one of Australia’s most respected, powerful soul singers, is set to tell the story of one of the most influential soul singers of all time, Etta James. At Last: The Etta James Story will be at Sydney Opera House from 30 April to 5 May. Vika Bull is a commanding singer with an impressive career, having sung alongside some of the Australia’s most iconic voices including Paul Kelly, John Farnham, Tim Finn and The Black Sorrows, and supported world famous musicians Bob Dylan, Sting, Joe Cocker and Billy Joel. “Etta James has had a huge influence on my musical journey. Someone played her record to me when I had just started performing, and from then on I was hooked. She had a voice so powerful it could knock you over, and I just love her sassy cheekiness on stage!” Vika said recently.

Etta James’ prolific career was shadowed by recurring problems with drug addiction; her time spent playing to thousands of fans juxtaposed with periods inside several prisons and rehab clinics. In the 1990s Etta became recognized as one of the first to bridge the gap between rhythm & blues, rock & roll and pop. She has since inspired the careers of a new generation of artists such as Christina Aguilera, Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse and Adele. The Italian Restaurant

Gourmet @Home

I had to write to you regarding a lovely evening we spent recently at 'The Italian' Restaurant at 12 The Entrance Road, The Entrance. First of all what a great location....right on the water’s edge, with a fantastic view of a variety of sea birds and little fishing boats. The gently lapping water and clean fresh breeze made for a great atmosphere to a relaxing evening meal. We had the choice of dining inside with full picture windows allowing views of the outside vista or outside on the boardwalk, right on the water’s edge. With such a mild evening we chose to dine outdoor. We were attended by attentive and courteous staff, and were presented with a delightful varied menu and a satisfying wine selection from the cellar. For entree we all chose the 'Bruschetta Bread’. This consisted of freshly diced tomato, Spanish onion, basil and Italian herbs, dressed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, placed on toasted garlic bread...delicious, what a great way to whet our appetites for the delights to come. For the main I chose Fettuccine Marinara, (prawn, mussel, Balmain Bug, calamari, scallop, and fish in a Napolitana sauce) mouth-wateringly tender and well-seasoned. My companions chose Risotto con Frutti di Mare and Scampi Alla Grilla and judging by the empty plates at the end of the meal, these were thoroughly enjoyed. The seafood was superbly prepared and presented and generous portions. We were spoiled for choice with the marvellous dessert menu with a delicious selection of gelato available, and finished with aromatic coffee, savoured as we looked out over our pretty view. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys authentic Italian cuisine, professional service and a 'to die for' location. It all comes together to guarantee a fabulous evening. Kind regards Sharon Ridsdale

As the change of seasons approach we are now refining our menus. We have some great winter warmers listed such as Osso Bucco with Risotto Milanese, Slow Roasted Shoulder of Lamb with a Herb Crust, Spatchock on Puy lentils or how about Duck Ragu with Mike’s famous handmade pasta. Or maybe those who like to celebrate a cold Christmas; our “Christmas in July” menu will be out soon. With hearty fare such as Slow Roasted Pork with plenty of crackling, Awesome Roast Potatoes and to finish Apple and Fig Puddings with a Caramel Sauce. As the end of financial year approaches we are also your ideal people to cater that party where the boss says “Thanks very much” for all the work you have put in over the last year. We can cater this at your office or a venue of your choice. To us at Gourmet@Home food is our passion and our motto is “food cooked with love”. We love to feed people not just cook for them. We are specialists in small intimate weddings, finger food functions, corporate events, buffets and dinner parties in your home. All prepared by us, served by us and all the cleaning up done so you don’t have to worry about a thing. With us entertaining is easy! Buon appetito. Ros and Mike. This, along with their great coffee (arguably the best in Avoca Beach), fantastic wraps, burgers and fish and chips, as well as fresh juices, smoothies and milkshakes makes Hi Tide Cafe the one stop shop for breakfast and lunch and anything inbetween!
