Rumbalara Reserve Yaruga Lookout and picnic ground Yaruga lookout, picnic ground and amenities block, located at Rumbalara Reserve via Dolly Ave Springfield, have had a major face lift thanks to a successful grant application through the Federally funded Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program and Council’s matched funding. Yaruga lookout is situated within one of Gosford City Council’s, Coastal Open Space System (COSS), bushland reserves and takes in views of East Gosford, Green Point, Brisbane Waters and glimpses of Broken Bay and beyond. There are several bush walks that can be accessed from the lookout and picnic

area. These walks vary in length and ability ranging from short walks that return to the picnic area through to longer walks into the Gosford City centre or through Council’s COSS to Katandra Reserve. The lookout and picnic ground are now completely accessible to all abilities with paving to the viewing platform, picnic facilities, including free electric barbeques, and left and right ambulant unisex amenities.

Make your Website an effective Salesperson An effective website can make it so much easier to gain new customers and generate quality leads. Besides the fact your competitors are building online businesses and marketing on the web, some key points to consider include: • Increase customer confidence - if nothing else a quality website will show customers you are a serious business and worth, at least contacting for a quote. • Low cost advertising - your website runs a non stop promotion of your products and services. • Your website can answer frequently asked questions your staff would normally answer over the phone taking up valuable time. • Rather than sending out large files as attachments, send customers links to your website product and services pages. • Updating your own products and pricing is quick and easy, keeping clients up to date with your latest offerings. • Shopping cart software automates the selling process any time of the day, even when you sleep. • Target products and services with Pay Per Click and only pay when a potential client clicks your advertising. • Keep your clients up to date and build relationships with social media and newsletter marketing. Remember your website is not just a marketing tool it can also be used as a business tool used to sell your products, get quotes and over time build long term business relationships. Email Rob, rob@rcswebsites.com.au and ask for some advice on generating more leads from your website or using your website as an effective sales tool.

Of course the extremely popular Scarecrow competition will be running. If you would like to enter a scarecrow, please call Di Salmon on 43 56 1502. The crows must be on show by August 24th and the winners will be announced and awarded on September 9th at the Fair – Jack Gear Oval, Linga Longa Road, Yarramalong. Bring your own nibblies and wine, and enjoy a great night watching one of the classic movies of all time. The movie title will be announced shortly, and you need to get dressed up in theme! August 25th /26th –The Wyong Creek Hall is staging an Art Show and Wine Tasting. The Art Show will be facilitated by the Tuggerah Lakes Art Society, , and simple Devonshire Teas will be available along with a Wine Tasting by Robert Oatley Wines.

A Boules Tournament will be played on August 26th at Jack Gear Oval. September 1st – the Yarramalong Fire Brigade will hold a Trivia Night in the Yarramalong Hall. Bring your brain, and get involved in this very vocal night to raise money for our Firies. September 2nd – Wyong Creek Hall will do another Devonshire Tea. This event has proven to be extremely popular, and the gorgeous antique china is a great feature. This year, there will be light lunches, wine tasting and live entertainment, so don’t miss out. September 2nd – (Father’s Day) 9.30 – 3.30 there be a Tennis Day and you can contact Gail Brigden on 4356 1254 to be involved at the Kulnura Courts. All levels welcome. A fun day. Cost is $10. Friday 7th September is the popular Darts Tournament at the Old Yarramalong School. If you are a darts player, give Garry Whitaker a call and register to play as it is a great team night, and the Darts enthusiasts of the Valley hope to make the Darts night a regular social feature each month. This event is being staged by the Yarramalong Darts & Home Brewing

www.centralcoastimag.com.au Club. Phone 0419262024 or gwhitaker@harboursat.com.au. The Festival will culminate on September 9th and the Progress Association will be staging The Bumble Hill Burn. If you are familiar with Bumble Hill, the steep and winding road climbs from 23 metres above sea level to 300 metres above sea level over a 4-5 kilometre distance. There will be a run up the hill starting at 8.30am, and we hope to attract some of New South Wales fittest runners. If you are a runner and would like to participate in this event, you can register online at www.bumblehillburn.com.au. The Burn was a great success last year, and we hope to attract a lot more runners, so start your fitness regime and join the climb. Everybody is welcome, on September 9th to the final event of the Festival – The Spring Fair. All funds raised go towards supporting the heritage community buildings, local school, fire brigade, and the gorgeous old St Barnabas Church. This year, the Fair will be bigger and better than ever with Pinnacle Challenge, Tug O War, School Soccer Tournament, Carriage Rides, Pony Rides, Jumping Castle, Stalls, Antique Fire Truck Display, Cup Cake Icing Display, Reptile Display and a live Band & market stalls. Come and join in the Fun at the Yarramalong Spring Fair, or just enjoy all the Scarecrows on a drive through the Valley for Father’s Day.

Fresh menu. Eat in or takeaway. Delicious Danes coffee. Home made cakes.

The Bumble Hill Burn The Bumble Hill Burn will be conducted on Sunday 9th September. The run will transcend the steep hill known as Bumble Hill Road covering a distance of 6.2 kilometres. The elevation is steep with a 23 metre above sea level starting point, and climbing to 300 metres in around 4 kilometres. Not for the faint hearted! The purpose of the run is to attract other communities into the Yarramalong Valley, create a tourist event, and experience a run in a wonderful, breathtaking environment. The climb has been a favourite of cyclists for many years, and last year the athletes ran the climb in super quick time. Another important reason for the run, is to raise money for the “community of buildings” in the Valley, most of which are Heritage, and not funded by the Government or Council. These include the Historic St Barnabas Church, The Yarramalong School, The Yarramalong Hall, The Wyong Creek Hall, The Wyong Creek School, and of course The Yarramalong Progress Association who are responsible for staging the event.

It’s Crossroad’s Festival fifth birthday!

Classical Music of North India An inspirational evening of Indian music featuring father and son sarangi players, Santosh and Sangeet Mishra, who will be accompanied on tabla by Bobby Singh. This music has been traditionally handed down from teacher to student for many, many years, and promises to be an evening of uplifting and inspiring music. When: Saturday September 1st. Doors open 7pm for 7.30 start. Where: The Circle of Life, 8 Henry Parry Drive, East Gosford Cost: $25 at the door. Children under 12 years free of charge. More details: contact Gerry on 0416 202 802. Light refreshments available.

The prestigious festival of classical music on the NSW Central Coast celebrates its fifth year in 2012! For the first time, we bring to Australia a prominent international artist, British violist Paul Silverthorne. Paul is a leading international figure in contemporary music, as Principal Viola of the London Symphony and London Sinfonietta. We are excited to join Paul with some of Australia’s leading classical musicians as well as the music community of the Central Coast. Opening the festival is a ravishing program of works for voice, viola and piano, culminating in the gorgeous classic written for this exotic trio combination, Brahms’ Two Songs Op. 91. Silverthorne will be joined by the acclaimed Australian pianist Phillip Shovk as well as rising star of Australian Opera, Victoria Lambourn. On the second Festival morning, I and my good friend Chris Pidcock are joined by New York-based Australian ex-pat violinist Asmira WoodwardPage for a magical all-Bach morning, which will be introduced by Silverthorne to tell the fascinating story behind the music (hint: it involves a Russian Count and a bad case of insomnia!). Back by popular demand is the astonishing young violin sensation Harry Ward, who amazed audiences last year with his depth of musicality and flawless technique.

Harry joins familiar friends to present the concert that I am most excited about - a heart-stopping program of music filled with powerful imagery and exhilarating joy, including this year’s world premiere: a new piece to match Bach’s Brandenburg 6 written by rising star of Australian composers, Londonbased Daniel McCallum. We are also proud to provide listeners with a ‘PreFestival Recital’, a chance to warm up the senses with some piano passion offered by the entrant declared ‘Best Australian Pianist’ for 2012. This concert will also feature famous violin works by Beethoven and Massanet. I am sure you will discover new favourites at this year’s Crossroads, and I, along with this year’s lineup of artists, can’t wait to share the joys of music with you all. 18-26 August Bookings phone 0437 399896 Brochure at www.asa.edu.au/crossroads Glen Donnelly, Artistic Director

The Carousel This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

MADE IN HEAVEN What have the sacred music of Schubert and the Spirituals of Afro-Americans in common? Drawing on the powerful and ancient liturgies of Catholicism, Schubert composed a great deal of religious music within a short lifetime marked by poverty, lack of success and hardship, whilst the black slaves of America used their powerful music and texts to maintain their sense of humanity and help them cling to the precious idea of freedom and independence within a time of the most unimaginable torment and deprivation. Both Schubert and these slaves bequeathed to the world some of the greatest music ever written.

Simply Sicilian Rockpool Retreat

Tasting on the Coast

Visiting the Central Coast this weekend the best find was definitely the Rockpool Retreat. This busy cafe is in a divine location. We sat on the verandah and immediately noticed the blankets to cover your legs if you feel cold. The staff were caring too and the menu was very reasonable. There is a reason they are so busy. With an extensive menu our food was fresh, delicious beef wraps with salad and the best chips on the coast. The smell of good coffee was delicious whilst our iced coffees drew envious glances. Service is swift and a wonderful singer caroused us as we ate. I recommend this Cafe to anyone who wants to enjoy a leisurely Breakfast, lunch or brunch all of which are served up until 5pm everyday. There is live music on Sundays, a book club, and all sorts of community based activities along with fresh local produce. This Cafe is essential on your 'must do' list and I am sure once you have been it will be on your favourites list. Rockpool Retreat 8 Bush Street Norah Head. 0243974859. Fun with Wine If you haven’t been to Adina lately you have missed the new release Pinot Grigio. This very popular style is grown at Adina – the vines quite possibly the oldest in Australia. This fresh young wine goes perfectly with Salads, seafood based rice and pasta dishes. On the other hand this Italian variety is a wine you can drink at any time easily. With summer sure to come again you need to be ready with a bottle or two of Adina Pinot Grigio. Still in Lovedale, a visit to St Clements Estate will be well rewarded.

St Clements boasts magnificent views, wood fired pizza and some excellent wines, not least of which is the Premium red. This is an unusual wine being 40% Barbera, 40% Nebbioli and 20% Grenache. Sitting outside St Clements with a great red and wood fired pizza – that’s a pleasant day or night, you might need to rug up if you choose to sit outside. The view is well worth it though. Enjoy the crisp, clear Winter days in the Hunter Valley. Take the time to discover Lovedale – in the next issue I will tell you about a hidden treat you will simply die for! “Wine is the drink of Gods milk for babies and water for beasts.”
