From The Editor Welcome to the September/October edition of the FSC iMag. Spring has well and truly arrived, and the Far South Coast has exploded with colour as the temperature rises after winter. A spectacular natural phenomenon that happens during spring is the southern migration of whales past the Far South Coast. Travelling slowly with their calves, several species of whales feed and play as they head down to Antarctica for the summer. It's not unusual to see whales within 30m of a beach or just off a headland. There are numerous local whale watching tours that will deliver an experience you'll never forget. The Eden Whale Festival, held on 29th - 30th October is an annual celebration of Eden and its connection to the whales. Longer days also bring a host of events, and there's plenty to choose from over the next couple of months. Four Winds is hosting four events in September and October including The Festival of Dangerous Ideas and Joe Chindamo and the Australian String Quartet - read more on page 47. Kick-start your spring with ReBoot in Bermagui, a weekend focussed on fitness, good health and good food for all the family. Car lovers won't want to miss Pambula Motorfest with a huge array of vehicles on display. For a touch of local history, Montreal Goldfield is holding its Heritage Day on October 8th. The Granite Town Festival in Moruya on October 28th - 29th is a fantastic weekend full of music, food and art events that attracts thousands of people each year. See our What's On feature on pages 34 - 36 for more information about these events and more. Don't forget to keep your iMag handy as you travel around the region, or download it onto your phone or tablet from the website at www.farsouthcoastimag.com.au

George Bass and Matthew Flinders were the first Europeans to ‘discover’ Twofold Bay in 1798, but the region had been inhabited by members of the Yuin nation for thousands of years, attracted by the rich food resources offered by the sea and surrounding forests. Local Aboriginal people had a strong connection with killer whales, and this included the harvesting of small whales and fish that killer whales herded into the shallows. A permanent shore-based whaling station was first established by the Imlay Brothers in

the 1830s, and whaling continued for another century. For a real taste of life in the whaling industry you can also visit Davidson Whaling Station, the longest operating shore-based whaling station in Australia, located on Kiah Inlet at Twofold Bay. Historic Boydtown is also worth a visit - make sure you drop in to the beautifully restored Seahorse Inn. You can experience some of Eden's history and see the skeleton of “Old Tom”, Eden’s famous killer whale, at the Eden Killer Whale Museum. Eden is now famous as a destination for whalewatching, with migrations occurring in late autumn and spring. The Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre, located on Main Wharf, has displays of the local marine environment. It's a fantastic place to take children, with touch tanks and all sorts of interesting things. The Discovery Centre also run Rocky Rambles, Snorkel Tours and other activities during school holidays. Eden is a great base to explore the area south to the border, and is surrounded by National Parks and State Forests. The Light to Light Walk is one of Australia's iconic bush walks, taking 3 days to walk from Green Cape Lighthouse in the south to Boyd's Tower in the north.

Celebrate the whale migration at the Eden Whale Festival For one weekend each year, the rich maritime and whaling history of the port of Eden on the Wilderness Coast becomes the centrepiece of a festival that seamlessly links all things whale. Highlighting the southern migration of the humpback and other whales, there's no better place to be in Australia than Eden if you want to get up close and personal with these magnificent animals. The opportunities to have a close encounter with whales and explore the unspoilt coastal wilderness are as plentiful as the pilchards on which the whales feed. The Eden Whale Festival combines whale watching from shore and sea with a spectacular street parade, vibrant markets showcasing and selling the work of local artisans, great local food and wine, educational marine displays and presentations, quality children’s entertainment and live music. The Festival’s biggest day is Saturday October 29th, when the street parade and all-day celebrations culminate in illumination and fireworks, as well as live music. Discover Eden and Twofold Bay on Friday 28th and Sunday 30th with whale watching and tours from sea and shore. Discover the story of the Killer Whale Trail, join a free shore-based whale watching session, or head to sea with the experts for a whale watching experience like no other. Some of the events happening over the weekend are listed below - check out the website at www.edenwhalefestival.com.au for more information on times, location etc. The Street Parade heralds the start of the party at Snug Cove. Kicking off at 10.30am, the parade winds its way from the main street down to Snug Cove. Artists who Wood is a festival favourite with a $3000 acquisition prize for the artwork which best showcases the town’s connection with the ancient forests that surround it. It’s the fourth year for the event, and artists across the region are selecting their timbers and tools to create pieces that can be as big as

1 metre square. Radio Controlled Model Boats Miniature, working remote-control sail and power boats on a quaint bay make for a pretty picture at Quarantine Bay. The owners don’t mind a chat either and there’s a cuppa always on back at the club house. Live Wood Sculpture by John Brady Watch a sculpture emerge from the timber under the craftsmanship of artist John Brady. Hailing from Sale, Victoria, John is astonishingly detailed with his tool of choice – a chainsaw. Sunday 30th October is all about exploring Eden’s most special places at your own pace, and keeping an eye out for whales at all times! There are several tours you can join, or explore on your own: Discover Eden Tour Hop on and off as you please while you explore. Stops include shore based whale watching, visits to our historical sites and maritime walk, exhibitions, Mary MacKillop Hall, Eden Killer Whale Museum and Snug Cove, where you can dine on fresh seafood and take a whale watching charter (but book early!) Shoalhaven Street Rodders Show and Shine on Sunday morning is hot rod heaven on Imlay Street. Have a close look at the cars and chat with their passionate owners, who travel to Eden from Victoria and Queensland and many places in between. Visit www.edenwhalefestival.com.au for details.

It’s an oceanic migration like no other and Eden has been an important part of it for centuries... See how we celebrate it each October with art, street theatre and music, while we feast on the harvest from sea and land. Held in and around the port, the festival embraces our maritime and bush heritage. It’s the most unique whale watching experience the nation has to offer.

Etched in Stone: the stories behind Eden’s War Memorial Between 2014-2018, nations around the world are commemorating the centenary of the First World War. Eden Killer Whale Museum’s exhibition Etched in Stone provides a local perspective on the stories behind the names of the First World War servicemen who are commemorated on Eden’s Cenotaph. With the First World War being fought on shores far from Australia, few families were able to visit grave sites or battle grounds. Local memorials provided a formal place for communities to grieve and remember those whose who would never come home. They also provided a place of commemoration where a grave was not possible, usually for the sad situation where soldiers were missing, presumed killed. While memorials honour the names of service personnel, space prevents individual stories being told. The Fallen have always been given a special place in history, but what of the men who returned home physically and
emotionally changed forever? Etched in Stone tries to understand the experience of some of Eden’s 122 First World War servicemen – the courageous and the deserters, the young and the old, the loss or survival of brothers, those who went on to serve in the Second World War and those who never made it out of Australia the first time around. Etched in Stone is on display at Eden Killer Whale Museum until 2 December 2018. Left: Ernest Ralston. Courtesy of Mrs D Hawthorne. A signaller with the 33rd Battalion, Ernie was recommended four times for gallant conduct and devotion to duty before being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his service in France. After the war he served as Lighthouse Keeper at Green Cape Lighthouse.

See And Hear Whales At Eden With Cat Balou Cruises Australian Geographic has named Eden as the Number 1 whale watching destination in Australia for 2016, and there is no better way to watch these giants of the deep than with the award winning whale watching vessel, CAT BALOU. Cat Balou Cruises owner/operators, Gordon & Ros Butt, are celebrating their 27th year of whale watching at Eden, making them the most experienced whale watching operators in NSW. They take pride in providing the highest level of customer service and safety and customer satisfaction is reflected by return clientele and numerous awards won over the years. CAT BALOU CRUISES have been inducted into the South Coast Tourism Hall of Fame and Trip Advisor have awarded CAT BALOU their Certificate of Excellence in 2013, 2014 2015 and 2016. Whale watching cruises operate daily until late November, with a guarantee of seeing whales on both the half day and Family whale watching cruises. CAT BALOU has a 99% success rate in seeing whales. In the rare event of not seeing whales at close range, a return free cruise or a refund of half the fare is offered. Cat Balou has a hydrophone aboard to enable passengers to hear whales singing. It is mainly Humpback whales seen on their southern migration, often accompanied by their young calves, however most years other species can be sighted, including Southern Right, Dwarf Minke, Bryde's and occasionally Orca. This year the Pacific Whale Foundation intend to have one of their researchers from Hawaii aboard Cat Balou for part of the season to continue their ongoing research into Humpback Whales through photo ID. Cat Balou is a stable 16mt catamaran licensed to carry 72 passengers, however numbers are limited to around 60 so everyone has plenty of
room to move about. There is inside seating for all passengers and the upper deck and large bow area provide excellent viewing and photo opportunities. A live commentary is given throughout and complimentary refreshments including hot soup, biscuits and cheese provided. Unlike most of the other ports in the area there is direct ocean access from the port of Eden with no sand bars to cross, therefore passengers are not required to wear life jackets. At times there are opportunities to watch whales from shore but nothing compares to seeing these majestic creatures at close range. Seals and dolphins plus many species of sea birds including Albatross are also usually seen on the cruises. On selected afternoons Cat Balou also offer their 2hr Twofold Bay Discovery Cruises . This cruise explores the southern section of Twofold Bay, viewing Boyd’s Tower, Edrom Lodge, Boydtown, the woodchip mill, naval wharf and fishing fleet. If whales are within the bay it’s an added bonus! For bookings and timetable for all cruises Phone 0427 260 489 or 0427 962 027. HistoricPambula Things to See & Do Enjoy the beautiful historic buildings of Pambula Village Stroll around Panboola's wetlands and amazing revegetation areas, including the Old Racecourse Visit the friendly kangaroos at Pambula Beach Try some oysters at Pambula Lake
The Pambula River floodplain was for thousands of years a source of food and materials for the Thaua people of the Yuin nation. Europeans first explored the region during George Bass's southern voyage of 1797. Seeking shelter from a gale, Bass travelled up the Pambula River, noting its beauty in his diary. A marker has been erected by the National Parks and Wildlife Service on this historic site. European settlement began in the 1830s, with the original township built on the southern banks of the Pambula River. Severe flooding in the 1860s meant the town had to be re-located to its present site on higher ground. Pambula’s historic past is still very much in evidence, with beautifully restored and maintained historic buildings and farmhouses.

Pambula now has an eclectic mix of businesses, with art galleries, cafĂŠs, restaurants, retailers, pubs, a wine bar selling locally made wines and local produce, a bakery, deli, organic and bulk food shop and even an old-fashioned milkbar. At the southern end of the town is Panboola, a community-managed recreational area that is restoring parts of the floodplain and former race course. Just 5 minutes east of the village is Pambula Beach, set between the ocean, the mouth of Pambula River and Ben Boyd National Park. Pambula Beach has an excellent swimming beach patrolled by the Pambula Surf Life Saving Club, a dog friendly beach at Middle Beach and the beautiful Pambula Rivermouth, with a playground and barbecue. Follow the river inland around the corner from the playground area until you find the walking track. This track has viewing platforms that offer beautiful views of the cliffs on the opposite bank and the beautiful clear water below. Heading south toward Eden from Pambula, turn off the Highway to Pambula Lake, at the opposite end of the lake/river system. Pambula Lake is the operational base for several local oyster growers. Don't leave without trying some of the delicious freshly-shucked oysters, grown in the clean waters of Pambula Lake.

Merimbula is the tourist hub of the Sapphire Coast with its lakeside restaurants and cafés, great shopping and a vast array of attractions and accommodation choices. Merimbula has a long history of human occupation, with Aboriginal people making the most of the available food resources, leaving behind middens that are visible today. In more recent times, Merimbula was one of several coastal trading ports connecting the

Sensational whale watching with Merimbula Marina This month there are thousands of Humpback Whales migrating south along the eastern coast of Australia. The pristine waters off Merimbula are one of their most sensational playgrounds. Our vessels “TrueBlue” and “Sensational” have been whale watching in Sydney over the winter and we have observed thousands of humpbacks on their northern migration. All of these whales are now heading south, bringing their young calves with them! Last year we launched our new vessel “Sensational” and had some incredible whale encounters. This boat gets you out to the whales fast, which means you get to spend more time with them! She is licensed to carry 20 passengers plus crew, providing a more intimate and personalised experience. With real 360 degree water-level viewing this vessel allow you to get up close and personal with the whales. Our other vessel is a larger 75 passenger
powered catamaran with both indoor cabin and outdoor viewing designed for whale watching. This gives you space to move about and a stable platform from which to enjoy the whales. Merimbula Marina operates multiple cruises each day from September to November. We are a family owned and operated business and believe in responsible and respectful whale watching practices. We have a deep love of the ocean and all its amazing creatures and enjoy sharing this with our passengers. We offer a money back guarantee that whales will be sighted on your cruise - please see our website for full details. Check out our daily photos and whale reports on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/ Merimbulamarina. Like out page and download photos taken from your cruise for free! Bega is the business and administrative heart of the Bega Valley. It is also a place of natural beauty, surrounded by lush pastures and forests hugging the escarpment. In the language of local Aboriginal people, members of the Yuin nation, Bega is said to mean “large camping ground”. It would have been a place of great abundance, with an underground lake feeding a series of wetlands, providing plenty of tucker. The dairy industry has always played a major part in the Bega economy, and this is still the
28
www.monthlyimag.com.au
case today, with the Bega Cheese Co-op one of Australia’s leading manufacturers of dairy products, exporting millions of dollars worth of product every year. A visit to the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre is a must for all visitors to the region. The Heritage Centre is a wonderful reproduction of the original butter factory that was situated on the site in the early 20th century and has a wonderful display of cheese and butter-making equipment from the 1900's. It provides an insight into how early farmers lived, worked and transported their products. The Heritage Centre is also home to the Bega Tourist Information Centre, which provides information about attractions throughout the region. For those interested in the history of Bega, the Museum in the heart of the town houses a collection of photos, family histories, farm implements and machinery. Bega has a thriving arts community with its own Regional Gallery which hosts several major exhibitions each year, as well as the artist-run Spiral Gallery. There's a fantastic walking track that goes all the way from the sporting fields near the Bridge over to the Bega River. The track then follows the Old Racecourse.
Sports of all sorts at Spiral Gallery Aussies and sport go hand in glove‌ or do they? Jammed beween the Rio Olympics/ Paralympics and the footy grandfinals, Spiral Gallery is exploring sport and it's unique place in the Australian psyche. Jo Saccomani was so inspired by her 'Cricket Chair', made with cricket bats held together with a cricket ball, she's contemplating creating another piece made from skis. David Stocker's clay figures depict the
emotional highs and lows of sport, whilst one of Peter Otton's paintings has swimmers frolicking on a rather precarious beach. Other works include Damian Kennedy's painting of AFL footballer Isaac Smith, Sharon Cornthwaite's sporting jewelry and pieces from Sam Bailey, Anna Buck, Liam Ryan and Jock Morse, but more pieces will no doubt be included as opening night approaches. 'Sport' opens at Spiral Gallery in Bega on Friday 2nd September. www.spiralgallery.org.au

With beautiful beaches, estuaries and National Parks all close by, Tathra is an ideal holiday destination for both families and couples. Tathra’s famous historic Wharf, classified by the National Trust as the only remaining steamer wharf on the Australian coastline, is a popular spot for fishing. Built in 1862, the Wharf was built from funds donated by farmers and the Illawarra Steam Navigation Company and operated until 1952. The Wharf was damaged during the East Coast Low that hit the region in June, and it may still be closed to the public for some time. You can still enjoy the view from the car park adjacent

to the Wharf though. Bushwalking, kayaking, mountain-biking, snorkeling and surfing are all popular around Tathra. There are lots of things for the kids to do, with a fantastic skatebowl suitable for skateboards, bikes and scooters, and a great playground. Both are located near the Tathra Surf Lifesaving Club. An easy 3km walking and cycling track runs from Tathra to the mouth of the Bega River at Mogareeka, with other walks around town as well. There are plenty of National Parks within easy driving range of Tathra. Bournda NP is about 15mins south toward Tura Beach, the Mimosa Rocks NP hugs the coast north towards Bermagui and Biamanga NP is north-west of Tathra between the Princes Highway and the coast. Direct access to the ocean is available at Kianinny Bay (also good for swimming), and the boat ramp at Mogareeka provides an easy launch into the Bega River estuary. Tathra also has great places to eat, ranging from gourmet delis to cafĂŠs and restaurants. Make sure you have a coffee at Cliff Place in Beach St at the top of town, to really appreciate Tathra's spectacular ocean views.
Walking in Tathra Forest Wildlife Reserve From Tathra, head back toward Bega on the Snowy Mountains Highway, and turn right into Thompsons Drive. The car park on the right marks the start of the Tathra Forest Wildlife Reserve. This 60 hectare wildlife corridor provides habitat for a range of fauna species, including glossy black-cockatoos, listed as a threatened species. These rare birds feed on the black sheoaks (Allocasuarina litoralis) found in coastal forests, and build nests in the hollows of old or dead trees. The Main Ridge Track passes through coastal rainforest down to a secluded
wetland, with a variety of waterbirds, frogs and water dragons. Continue through the Reserve until you reach Dilkerra Rd; follow this until you reach the famous Tathra beach. The walk takes about 45 minutes one way, and is graded as easy medium. Once you reach Tathra Beach, you can keep walking to the historic Tathra Wharf, partially open to the public after sustaining damage in the East Coast Low of June 2016. Left: Glossy-black Cockatoo. Intriguing Cobargo Things to See & Do Follow the Cobargo Village Historic Walk and listen to the Audio Tour Enjoy a picnic on the banks of the Narira River Explore nearby Wadbilliga National Park
Cobargo is located half an hour north of Bega, in the midst of lush, green pastures rolling away to forested mountains. The village was established with a Post Office, general store, school, hotel, church and blacksmith during the 1870s around the butter and cheese-making industries. In the 1860s, Cobargo was known as Wattletown, as bark stripped from local wattle trees was shipped to Sydney and Melbourne to be used in the tanning industry. This industry only ceased in 1964. Cobargo was also known as The Junction because of the junction of the Narira and Bredbatoura Creeks in the middle of the town. A Butter Factory and Co-op were established in 1901 and continued production, except for a short break due to fire, until 1980, when it closed because of changes in bulk milk production.

The town was large enough from the 1890s onwards to support a newspaper, ‘The Cobargo Watch’.
The picturesque historic village of Cobargo is more than a working village though; it's a creative, vibrant place that reflects the diverse, talented locals. Cobargo's Laneway Markets are an initiative of Cobargo Creators and happen every Saturday from 9am till 1pm. Enjoy the friendly Cobargo vibe whilst browsing fresh produce, seedlings, herbs, local crafts, craft supplies and other locally made goodies. There’s also trashy treasures and treasured trash for the bargain hunters and the odd busker to entertain. On the 1st Saturday of the month there is also a car boot sale held in conjunction with the market. Cobargo still has it's old favourites like the unique Bangles Pottery shop, where the owner throws pots in the front window, and South Coast Leather, where the scent of leather wafts from the door. Twig & Feather is also full of scented delights, with hand-made candles and a unique range of homewares, kitchenware and stationery.
Twig & Feather - Feel inspired in Cobargo Design, imagine, and create the comforts of home. Stepping through the doors of Twig & Feather, your senses are instantly tantalised by the sweet fragrances wafting through the store. The home fragrance diffusers, and natural soy wax and palm wax candles are made right on the premises, with intriguing fragrances such as black raspberry & vanilla, or ginger ale. Twig & Feather offers a unique shopping experience which will inspire ideas and spark your imagination. This home and living store offers a unique collection of homeware, kitchenware, garden ware, quirky stationery and gifts. Feel inspired by concepts throughout the store,
styled to offer you ideas for your own home whether you prefer country style, retro style, industrial style, contemporary or modern style, there is something to suit any home or interior. Twig & Feather, Princes Hwy Cobargo. 6493 6552 or info@twigandfeather.com.au

CharmingTilba Things to See & Do Go for a hike up Gulaga Mountain Try fishing at Mystery Bay Explore the fascinating shops Visit the historic ABC Cheese Factory Drop in to the Dromedary Hotel
The villages of Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba lie on the slopes of Gulaga, a place of great spiritual significance to the local Yuin nation, particularly Yuin women. Gulaga is cloaked in amazing rainforest around its peak and it's well worth hiking to the top for spectacular views (approx. 5 hours). Access the walking track from the rear of Pam's Store in Tilba Tilba. Named Mt. Dromedary by Captain Cook in 1770, the lower slopes of Gulaga became the site of much activity when gold was discovered in the 1860s. Many of Tilba’ s buildings were constructed in the late 1880s when the gold boom was at its peak. By the time mining ceased, the dairy industry was firmly established as the main source of income for the area. The village of Tilba Tilba, just a few kilometres south of Central Tilba, is also protected by a 50

National Heritage listing. Tilba Tilba is home to the magnificent Foxglove Spires, featuring one of Australia’s finest open gardens covering 3.5 acres. A large section of the grounds have been developed over many years, with water features, spectacular mature trees and the Willow House overlooking the duck pond. It's a wonderful place to inspire and delight children, with many hidden features to find and plenty of space. The entire village of Central Tilba was classified by he National Trust in 1974 in recognition of its historical significance. Central Tilba maintains its village atmosphere, and has become a centre for craftspeople and artisans, as well as ‘oldfashioned’ stores like the general store, lolly shop and toy shop. Leatherwork, art studios, woodwork, jewellery, unusual clothing, cafes, antiques, giftware, as well as a bakery and a pub are all located on Central Tilba’s main street. At the ABC Cheese Factory there's South Coast Cheeses made on the premises, and Real Tilba Milk, made from local jersey cows. The annual Tilba Festival, held each Easter, is a wonderful expression of the laid-back Tilba vibe - it's a corporate sponsorship-free zone.
Tilba Leather Tilba Leather was established in 1982, and proprietors Phil and Debbie Elton are very proud to have supplied their customers with quality leathergoods for the past 30 years. It’s no surprise though that the business is still going strong when you discover the quality of the beautiful leather goods at Tilba Leather. Traditionally home to two indigenous tribes, the Walbanga and the Brinja-Yuin, the name Moruya is derived from the word, mherroyah, meaning "home of the black swan". Black swans still feature in Moruya, and are frequently seen in the lakes and rivers around town. European settlement began in the 1820s, with the township gazetted in 1851. Moruya's granite quarries were famous for supplying the rock used in the piers of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. From 1925 to 1932, the Harbour Bridge works saw 250 stonemasons employed and relocated to Moruya by the contractor to produce 18,000 cubic metres of dimension stone for the bridge pylons, 173,000 blocks and 200,000 yards of
crushed stone that was used as aggregate for concrete. Moruya granite was also used for Sydney’s Post Office, the Bank of NSW, the Cenotaph in Martin Place and the base of the Captain Cook statue in Hyde Park. These days, Moruya is known for its beautifully preserved heritage buildings and streetscapes, as well as the large, intricately carved wooden poles that are dotted along the footpath of the main street. Fantastic cafes, restaurants and pubs can also be found in this bustling little country town that has lots to offer. Moruya has a thriving arts scene, and hosts two major festivals each year. Moruya is at the geographic heart of the Eurobodalla River of Art Festival; a 10 day festival of live music, theatre, film, visual arts, literature, creative workshops and cultural experiences held each May. Granite Town, held each October, is a celebration of Moruya's vibrant culture and features live music from some of Australia's best bands, amazing food in the popup dining district, and the visually spectacular Riverlights, a parade of unique artist designed, community built, floating lanterns launched on the Moruya Riverat dusk. www.farsouthcoastimag.com.au

Granite Town Festival- where Moruya comes alive A vibrant mix of music, art, culture and delicious food, Moruya’s Granite Town Festival brings people of all ages together to party the weekend away on the banks of the pristine Moruya River. Kicking off on Friday October 28th, the third Granite Town Festival will open with the IMB Riverlights, an awesome display of community built, giant illuminated floating sculptures towed by kayakers and paddle boarders on the Moruya River at dusk. Five months in the making, these unique and remarkable luminous artworks are a reflection of a truly collaborative community both in spirit and in action. Over 8000 spectators flocked to the river in 2015, and in 2016 that number is expected to increase. Fire twirlers and roving performers will entertain the crowds and the delicious offerings of Eat Street - a pop-up dining precinct of delicious local and further-flung fare - will add to the carnival atmosphere. The HUB, the central music venue situated at Riverside Park, will host a talented and diverse weekend-long line-up of great Australian music with a strong Jazz-rooted, funk and reggae sound. Starting on Friday 28th through to Sunday 30th, crowds can dance, move, jump, fling, feel, chill-out and bask in the best contemporary music around, featuring established well known acts, up-and-comers and even a few old favourites. Eat your fill of delicious food within the large, grassy fenced HUB zone, buy a beer (or bubbles) at the bar and enjoy the funky GT vibe with friends and family. Right: the Waifs have been a feature act at last year's Granite Town Festival , and are back again in 2016.

The Horizon Credit Union Life Style Village, a mini-township of massage, relaxation and wellness right on the river’s edge will feature stalls, activities, lounge areas and a separate bar/coffee house to provide a little TLC and breathing space from the main stage. The Horizon Stage in the Life Style Village offers an opportunity for walk up performers as well as scheduled local acts to strut their stuff, providing some of the best, most spontaneous entertainment of the weekend. Camping on the riverbank will be offered in 2016 - just walk to the action right next door and join the party, or head back for a kip to last out the weekend. Book your space on the website well in advance to take advantage of this awesome accommodation option. To top it all off, GT will be offering the opportunity to participate in a Gourmet Champagne Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, complete with live music, as well as Guided Tours showcasing local Indigenous culture and some of the significant historical sites in the area. Book your place in either of these activities on the website. Don’t miss the Granite Town Festival - it’s where Moruya comes alive and where you get to enjoy a gorgeous family holiday by the beach and river and an amazing music and artistic event all at the same time! To experience what the town was like during the boom, a visit to the Original Gold Rush Colony is a must. Located in a natural Australian bush setting on 4.5ha, the Original Gold Rsuh Colony, formerly known as Old Mogo Town, is a great place to step back in time. The Original Gold Rush Colony has won the Cultural and Heritage Tourism award at the South Coast Regional Tourism Awards four times, as well as winning the Heritage and Cultural Tourism - Hall of Fame award in 2011.
