The final exhibition at Gallery Sixty One Revisited will run from the 6th to 24th of December and is shaping up to be the most controversial the gallery has ever presented. To celebrate the closing of the gallery, Director Caroline Christie is exhibiting the best worst art she can find. If you haven't already been to the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre, we recommend you visit for the annual Muswellbrook Local Art Awards. This competition offers local artists from Muswellbrook, Singleton, and Upper Hunter Shires the chance to exhibit their work in a regional gallery and gives visitors a chance to view local art. Starting on November 5 at Newcastle Art Gallery, the exhibition John Olsen: The City's Son celebrates master painter and Australian living treasure John Olsen OBE, AO and features works chosen by the artist that reflect his affection for Newcastle, his birthplace. The exhibition will be launched with a Spanish Street Party (Fri Nov 4 from 7pm). This free
event, featuring Spanish wine, food, music and festivities, acknowledges the Spanish influence on John Olsen's art practice. There is also a new guided tour, ROAMING ART TOURS, which takes you around the various smaller galleries and includes artist and gallery talks, art demonstrations and the chance to purchase artworks direct from the makers. Coffee Shops in the Hunter
The key to getting the coffee you want is knowing how to order it
A well conveyed coffee order helps the coffee maker understand what you want, and ordering in the sequence of preparation is ideal. This sequence is size, style, milk and sweeteners. For example “large, flat white on full (cream milk), 1 sugar”. All Espresso coffee beverages are based on ‘shots’ (25-30ml) of Espresso extracted coffee.
As cup size increases, so should the number of shots. Stronger coffee should be ordered as extra shots, because there may already be 2 or 3 shots in the size ordered. Milk comes in three textures: Flat (almost no air introduced), Latte (textured with air but consistent micro-foam throughout), and Cappuccino (slightly over-textured milk to create a layer of denser foam on top). Milk comes in three temperatures: Hot, Extra Hot and ‘Insane’. A great way to start a fight is to tell the coffee maker what temperature the milk should be. Milk thermometers are the most unreliable device on earth and good coffee makers don’t use them because they are unhygienic and slow. If you want extremely hot milk, ask for “As hot as you can make it” or my favourite, “Hot enough to light a cigarette!” Article by Jake Bush King Street Confectionery

Everyone’s patience and sanity is tested to the limit, and much hilarity ensues as they try to muster the fortitude to survive their annual Familial Endurance Test with minimal casualties. Throw in a re-badged penguin jumper, a seemingly endless supply of miniature jams, and the constant threat of the emergency services arriving, and it’s shaping up to be a Christmas that no-one will forget! Featuring a talented Newcastle ensemble that includes Jan Hunt, Patrick O'Brien, Kathleen Warren, Amanda Woolford, Carl Gregory, Elise Bialek, Emily Daly, Benjamin Martin, John Franks and Arlene Richards, 'Festive Spirit' is the perfect Christmas treat! A good Estate & Inheritance Plan will answer three central questions well: what’s important to me, what is the plan if I get hurt, sick or die and crucially, how effective is the plan? Unfortunately, most people only really have a lawyer produce a Will and perhaps obtain some life insurance and income protection and then pop the champagne thinking the job is done.

The town has been bustling with a variety of industries since the early 1800’s and there are many beautiful historical buildings and attractions to remind of its long history. The Old Rectory and historic St. John’s Anglican Church are a wonderful example of these building. The Old Rectory has been lovingly restored and is a beautiful venue for a high tea or other special events. A rich wine growing area During the 1860’s, land settlement was extensive between Nulkaba and Pokolbin with wheat, tobacco and grape growing, the main crops. Coal mining was the principal industrial base of the Cessnock area for over fifty years. The Hunter Valley wine-growing area in Cessnock City is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions and one of the most famous with around 4,500 acres under vine. The vineyards of Pokolbin, Mount View and Allandale, with their rich volcanic soils tended by entrepreneurial vignerons, are also the focus of a thriving and growing tourism industry. The town has a number of fine restaurants, guesthouses and galleries. The Convict Trail is a conservation project that is restoring the convict-built Great North Road. This is one of Australia's national historic treasures. 32

A rather good story of Professor Sir Edgeworth David recently came to light in 1938. At an assembly of mining men a visitor asked to interview Professor David. An old man with a bag of samples was the applicant, and on being presented to the Professor went through his samples. Taking one piece of conglomerate, he said that it was three million and ten years old. The bemused Professor said he could understand the three million, but asked the old chap how he came to be so accurate in his knowledge of the exact age of the rock. He explained the matter satisfactorily when he said that ten years previously the Professor had stated it was three million years old. The laugh was against the great geologist, who often told this story against himself. It was due to Sir Edgeworth David that the town of Kurri Kurri, and the South Maitland coalfields came into being.
