Melinda Does Doris… Again: The Movie Songs After a sold out performance in 2016, six-time CMAA Golden Guitar Award winner, Australian favourite, Melinda Schneider returns to Laycock Street Theatre on Sunday April 9 with her stunning new show, “Melinda Does Doris… Again: The Movie Songs”. This nostalgic celebration celebrates the release of Schneider’s second tribute album to Doris Day, released in October 2016 and includes such timeless hits as “Just Blew In From The Windy City” from the 1953 film Calamity Jane, “Pillow Talk” from the 1959 film of the same name, “There Once Was A Man” from the 1957 film The Pajama Game, “Tea For Two” from the

1950 movie of the same name and “The Very Thought Of You” from the 1950 film Young Man With A Horn… just to name a few. “The wonderful Doris Day turns 93 on 3rd April, 2017, so I just had to do something to celebrate,” said Melinda of the special show. “Recording my new album has inspired me so much and those classic movies and the songs that came from them will never die. I just love performing them.” Melinda Does Doris… Again - The Movie Songs continues Melinda Schneider’s outstanding, heartfelt homage to the wonderful Doris Day. The Vicar of Dibley comes to Wyong To mark the first show of their 65th year, Coast Theatre Company (aka Wyong Drama Group) will bring the marvellous British comedy The Vicar of Dibley to life on The Art House stage in March. After their recent highly successful run of Noises Off, Coast Theatre Company is showing no signs of slowing down in 2017. Noises Off cast members Alex Travers and Maddy Parker have jumped ship and are now codirecting this masterpiece comedy. The stage adaptation follows the lives of your favourite Dibley Parish Council members in four classic episodes; Arrival, The Easter Bunny, The Engagement and Radio Dibley. Of course we can’t forget a few Alice jokes, escaping cows, disastrous sandwiches and Kylie Minogue along the way. The directing duo have assembled a cast of the most talented, lovable and enthusiastic actors

on the Coast. Local favourite Jillian Logan will be stepping into the shoes of Geraldine Granger, with Coast Theatre Company regular Scott Russell as Hugo Horton and fresh face Gabby Brooks as Alice Tinker. Coast Theatre Company stalwarts Laszlo Weidlich and Hagen Heinrich will join them as Jim Trott and Frank Pickle, along with popular Woy Woy actor Greg Buist as David Horton and newcomers Justin O’Connor and Donna Brooks as Owen Newitt and Letitia Cropley. “The Vicar of Dibley is a modern day classic,” said Travers, “we couldn’t be more excited to bring this show to life with a talented cast of experienced actors and newcomers alike!” “We were both brought up on The Vicar of Dibley and just love it,” said Parker, “we can’t wait for our and our cast’s passion to be shared with all the Dibley fans out there.” The Vicar of Dibley will run from March 17-25.

"Water" Paintings by Cathryn McEwen 7th March - 30th April, 2017 Based on the Central Coast of NSW, Cathryn has exhibited in Canada, Italy, Mexico and here in Australia over the past four decades. More recently she exhibited with 2 others at Artsite Gallery Sydney in "The Energy of Water" (February 2016) and had in a solo exhibition, "Wavelength" at the Gosford Regional Gallery (Dec 2016 - Jan 2017). I am particularly enamoured with the junction of sea and land and the visual ever-changing myriad of colour, light, and forms – providing me with endless possibilities to rediscover through the painting process. I think we all have a fascination for water – in any form and anywhere. It is at once power, peace, perfection, primal, playful, poetic – connecting us all in its mystery and meaning. The challenge as an artist is trying to make “oil and water” mix to capture its changing personalities, its exquisite essence. She will be exhibiting at Kooindah Waters Golf and Spa Resort from March 7 to April 30 2017. 16

The Carousel This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

What to See & Do The Pelican Feeding in The Entrance Memorial Park is a highlight of any visit. Daily at 3.30pm The Entrance Heritage Walk is one of the best on the Central Coast and visitors will also enjoy the Coast to Lake Walk. MARINE RESCUE CENTRAL COAST

ANCHORING IN CHANNELS Just as with parking a car, you’re not allowed to anchor your vessel wherever you like. It’s an international maritime law that vessels are not allowed to anchor in a channel. Anchoring a vessel in a shipping channel is a dangerous activity for boat owners, as small vessels might obstruct the approach of all other vessels using the channel. It can be especially dangerous at night. Narrow channels are in use 24 hours a day every day, so anchoring in a channel at any time is dangerous for both the anchored vessel and the vessel underway. Anchoring in the channel may seem the ‘best spot’ to enable those fishing to cast towards the bank where fish feed, but it impedes safe passage for other vessels. The speed of a ferry can be deceptive and it can take up some times for a large vessel to stop, even with its engines full astern. Large vessels must maintain some speed to steer, and they must stay in the channel – it's the only place deep enough for them to operate. Large vessels cannot manoeuvre as easily or as well as small ones. So take care not to anchor in channels. You will avoid potential for a collision, damage, injury or even death. www.centralcoastimag.com.au

The Peninsula Ettalong Beach, Umina Beach & Woy Woy

The Peninsula a truly special place For those who live on the Peninsula, we all appreciate how truly special the area is with its safe and beautiful beaches, picturesque waterways, accessible National Parks, vibrant town centres, good transport and easy access to Sydney. Woy Woy is one of the busiest rail stations in New South Wales as locals commute to Sydney for work each morning and return each night to the relaxed Peninsula lifestyle. It is no wonder that more people choose to live and visit the Peninsula as they discover its wonderful attributes. Few places can boast one of the best ferry rides in Australia from Ettalong Beach to Palm Beach via the Palm Beach Ferry or the spectacular train ride from Woy Woy to Sydney via the Hawkesbury River. Nor can you ignore the wonderful Ettalong Beach Foreshore, the Woy Woy Waterfront or the many spectacular lookouts and National Parks. Without doubt our beaches are the cleanest and

26

safest on the Central Coast boasting Ettalong Beach, Umina and Ocean Beach, Pearl Beach and Patonga. Importantly, our town centres have become more vibrant with the bustling Umina Beach one of the busiest retail strip shopping centres on the Central Coast. This is supported by major shopping facilities in Woy Woy including Deepwater Plaza and Peninsula Plaza and boutique shopping in Ettalong Beach. In recent years we have seen the emergence of a great cafĂŠ culture and a range of high quality restaurants especially in the Ettalong Beach village centre. With great schools, terrific services and a full range of shopping centres, the demographics of the Peninsula are changing with young families and professionals moving in to complement our older population. No longer just somewhere to retire (and why not), the Peninsula has become a place for younger people to raise families and enjoy a lifestyle that is the envy of Sydney. Come visit the Peninsula and discover the reasons why others have chosen to make this area their home and a holiday destination.

David Williamson’s

“When Dad Married Fury” Septuagenarian Alan Urquhart (Andy Kabanoff ) has made millions! Some thought that the investment funds he hawked in widely popular television commercials were dodgy right from the start, but as his family fly in from around the country for his birthday, the ‘old man’ still has a few surprises up his sleeve - including his brash new American wife (Kellie Martin) almost half his age. What portion of the fortune can his sons, academic Ben and engineer Ian now expect with the ‘gold digger’ on his arm? Meanwhile, Ben’s daughter, Adele, reveals that she has inherited her grandfather’s talents to stir up family tension! David Williamson’s "When Dad Married Fury" is a blackly funny story about family, loyalty and new beginnings and is directed by Terry Collins. ‘Fury’ will be presented by Woy Woy Little Theatre at the Peninsula Theatre, Woy Woy, for 10 performances only. Dates: Fridays @ 8pm March 10, 17 & 24. Saturdays @ 8pm March 11, 18 & 25. Saturday @ 2pm March 25. Sundays @ 2pm March 12, 19 & 26. Tickets: $30 Adults, $25 concession, $8 Children up to 16 years. THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

London’s biggest comedy hit, the riotous theatrical disaster The Play That Goes Wrong, described as Fawlty Towers meets Noises Off, will have a limited season at the Roslyn Packer Theatre from 5 April. The Play That Goes Wrong introduces ‘The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society' who are attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong…does, as the accident-prone thespians battle on against all the odds to get to their final curtain call. The Play That Goes Wrong is a highly physical comedy packed with finely-tuned farce and Buster Keaton inspired slapstick delivered with split-second timing and ambitious daring. The Play That Goes Wrong, which started its life at a London fringe venue with only four paying customers at the first performance, is now enjoying its third

Currently CCHMM members are working on projects in private studios and workshops across the Central Coast but they are expecting to move into premises at the Gosford Showground in March 2017, which will provide space for the next 1 to 2 years, where bigger exhibitions can be assembled, displayed as ‘works in progress’ and ‘finished works’. Good support for the project has come from both Council and State Government, as this is seen as an important boost to the local tourist industry.

On board the ferry ‘Sorrento’, displayed on a large A/V screen, specially prepared Award Winning graphics, historic and onsite photographs, plus video of working models and animations. Shown throughout the tour with live commentary.

We had had a scary start to the day, driving in the pouring rain and blowing a tyre right off the Volvo halfway to the Central Coast. We have been to the Italian restaurant many times but thought a rainy day and the new menu were perfect matches. One hitch - Klara has become Gluten intolerant however the staff were so helpful, and sorted out every item. The menu is clearly marked with (GF) to make it easy. We shared most items so we could comment.

The mains were perfectly done with tasty potato gallettes and broccolini. Choice of Salad or vegetables is readily available if you want to change accompaniments.

Entrees: We had a new dish Seafood Share (for 2), a selection of chilli lime Scampi; Prosciutto-wrapped Scallops; Lobster Ricotta Chorizo mousse stuffed cucumber; cream-cheese filled roasted capsicum wrapped in smoked salmon. Beautifully presented with such lovely tastes this platter was a delight. We accompanied this with the freshest oysters natural we have ever had.

Sweets; a delightful cheesecake, Creme Brulee, and wild strawberry & Balsamic Mouse with chocolate sauce. There is a choice of 13 sweets and it is hard to choose, ours were fantastic.

Mains: I had the Meat and Seafood Grill, Angus Sirloin, Med-Rare topped with prawns mussel, calamari, fish, scallop and bug with Citrus Chilli Aoli. Ian had Grilled Scampi (GF) with Garlic Parsley marinade served on Salad (he is a lighter

Our favourite Italian restaurant and its staff ensured the day improved. The new items on the menu were superb, the chef blew us away and we felt 150% better than we had. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant. They provide for every taste and pocket.

Bowen Therapy Bowen therapy has been developed into a modality used to treat many imbalances, discomforts and conditions. A large percentage of pain that we experience in the body is due to postural imbalances, which affects the mechanics of the body. The pain is usually a symptom or effect from the postural imbalance and most body therapists tend to go straight for the pain and rub or treat the sore bit. All though this usually feels good and temporarily relieves the pain, it does not fix the issue and in most cases the pain will return with time, however, to correctly treat this issue, we need to dig deeper using assessments and testing, to find the underlying cause of the problem and treat the cause, resulting in the symptoms to subside and along with self-help exercises and/or stretches bring about a longer lasting, if not permanent solution to the problem.

and/or help alleviate symptoms of medical conditions such as Planter Faciatis, Tennis Elbow, Chronic Headaches, Migraines, Asthma, Parkinsons, MS and Cerebral Palsy just to name a few. There are also specific treatments for organs of the abdominal cavity based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine technique of Chi Nei Sang. There are hormonal treatments used for treating many issues from painful periods to help with pregnancy to menopause, developed using ayurvedic principles. With such an amazing therapy developed and available right here in Australia, if you haven’t experienced it yet or you have an issue that other modalities just don’t seem to be helping, then give Bowen therapy a try.

Bowen therapy can also be used to treat

www.monthlyimag.com.au

The annual extravaganza held in the small town of Aberdeen in the Upper Hunter, renowned for its strong Scottish heritage, is being held on Saturday, July 1 at Jefferson Park, Aberdeen. Now in the 18th year, the highland games is an event for the whole family. It features the massed pipes and drums, individual pipe band displays, Tartan Warrior’s with their feats of strength, Scottish highland and country dancing and many stalls. Being Aberdeen’s signature event, the highland games involves the whole community and in the past has been well patronised by families from all over the Hunter Valley and beyond. Visitors, guests, pipe bands and others will be coming from as far as Lithgow, Moree, Dubbo, Tamworth, Armidale and the Sydney metropolitan area as well as interstate to take part in the grand combination of history, pageantry and novelty. A grand parade within the grounds will kick the programme off at 9.00am. Honoured Guest for this year’s event will be Hon. Sandy MacDonald of Wallabadah. Aberdeen Highland Games president Charles Cooke said, “We are indebted to the mining industry, the thoroughbred industry and many others within the Upper Hunter region for their ongoing support. Surplus funds, have each year been put back into the local communities which has amounted to a figure close to $100,000.00 has been returned to the local community groups since 2000.” The games will be followed by a Ceilidh, a Celtic social gathering with a fine meal, music, stories and dancing at St Joseph's high School MPC on Saturday night from 6.30pm. For more information visit the website at www.aberdeenhighlandgames.com or Facebook. Tickets may be purchased on line via TryBooking. com.au or through the Scone Visitor Information Centre.
