5 Must Visit Places in Allahabad Allahabad, formerly Prayag, is one of the most sacred and culturally rich cities in India. Conveniently located in southern region of Uttar Pradesh, it is the second-oldest city in the nation and plays a significant part in Hindu scriptures. Theologically, it is believed that Brahma, the Hindu lord who creates, chose this land on which three most spiritually significant rivers, namely Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati flow.

The city is also referred as King of all pilgrimage centres or Tirth Raj. Plus, there are also several references of the city in many of the Hindu scriptures including the two most significant scriptures, namely Mahabharata and Ramayana. The confluence of the aforementioned two rivers Ganges and Yamuna, is known as Sangam, and is among the most vital part of the city. The confluence is considered to be a very sacred place and is the major reason that attracts the people from different parts of the nation to the city. Sangam is an important venue of many sacred rituals, worshipping, and fair. It is believed that bathing here will wash-off the sins and also helps in reaching the final attainment. The third river, Saraswati is believed to flow underground the city and meets at Snagam, which is why the confluence is also called Triveni. Besides Snagam, the city is also world-famous for its Kumbh Mela, which is one of the biggest spiritual gathering among Hindus. The number of visitors simply swells to millions during the time of Kumbh Mela. What's more, Allahabad is also the home to many medieval caves, forts, temples etc. It always have been an important seat to the Mughals as well as Hindus kings, and there are several ancient monuments and their remnants scattered throughout the city.
