He knew the significance of the city as an important waterway landmark, so he also constructed a grand Fort along the banks of the Sangam. The fort is called the Allahabad Fort and is today an important attraction and source of knowledge to the tourists, historians, and architecture buffs. The city was also an important cantonment during the British Raj. Today, some magnificent remnants left by them stand as the mute testimonies of the bygone.
