Kasauli, a cantonment and a town located in the state of Himachal Pradesh, is one fine destination for a brief holiday. Bestowed by the nature’s riches, the town sits in the verdant regions of the Solan district. Like most of the hill stations, this little town was also developed by the British. The British established their cantonment in Kasauli in 1842. Besides being their cantonment, the town was also a summer resort for them. The town is the neighbor to Shimla which is 77 km away, and is also a good getaway for the locals of Chandigarh and Delhi.

Kasauli has a simple minded, happy-go-lucky populous that spend most of their time in some small local businesses, farming, handcrafts, and worshipping the lord. Legend says that when Lord Hanuman was searching for the Sanjeevani hill, he placed his foot at the very place where the town today sits, and that is how the town came into existence. Despite of its natural beauty, Kasuli still has a lot to move forward in order to find a spot in the nation’s most popular tourist destinations. Kasauli still is a quaint-tranquil hill town that oozes its world charm and unspoiled natural beauty. However, note that winters here are bit chilly with temperature being 2 degree Celsius. The roads are the only ways to reach the town. The nearest airport to Kasauli is at Shimla. The Shimla airport is a typical modern airport and is served by flights of all major air carriers like Jet Konnect, Air India Express, IndiGo, and Spicejet etc.

Kasauli is not big. The tourist attractions are limited and besides them, there is precisely not much to do in the town. Still, anything and everything that is available here is sufficient enough to offer you a trip that is going to stay in your memories for a considerate time. The Baptist Church is one major attraction in the town. It was built in 1923 and is made up of brick and wood. According to The Indian Express, the church is “considered a unique example of colonial architecture of the British era". There is also a Christ Church that was inaugurated on 24 July 1853. It was originally an Anglican church and contains Italian and Spanish imported stained glass beautiful windows with figures of Christ, Mary, Saint Barnabas and St Francis. There are two Gurudwaras as well, one is located in the Gharkhal bazaar and the other lies on the way to Mashobra from Kasauli.


Another must see place in the town is the Kasauli Brewery. The town takes pride of the brewery as it is Asia’s oldest extant distillery of Scotch-Whisky. It was founded in 1820, a time before the British established their cantonment.
