Pune: the Cultural Capital of Maharashtra Pune is a beautiful city located in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is known for its rich cultural heritage and old world charm. Pune is a city situated in the Indian state of Maharashtra and lies around 560 metres above sea level. It lies in the Deccan Plateau on the right bank of the Mutha river. Pune has been a historically significant city for centuries. During the eighteenth century, the city of Pune became the political centre of the Indian subcontinent because the Peshwas took a seat here and they served as the prime ministers of Maratha empire. Pune has several old economy industries that continue to burgeon even today. it as one of the most important landmarks of Indian history. This palace was built to help the poor and poverty-stricken people in the neighbouring areas of Pune who were drastically affected by a famine and thus was built as an act of charity. The Aga Khan Palace is an important landmark for the Indian Freedom Struggle as it has also served as a prison for several notable freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai. It is also the death palce for mahadev Desai and Kasturba Gandhi. This palace has been declared as a place of national significance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
