This part of the town is also called McLeod Ganj, after Sir Donald Friell McLeod, the former British Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab. The other major part of the town is the Lower Dharamshala. Unlike the Upper Dharamshala, the Lower Dharamshala is quite and is the seat of administration, education, hospitals, and commerce. However, there are not much in this part of the town to explore, and the Upper Dharamshala remains the dominant attraction of the town. In addition, there are a couple of other interesting places in the vicinity of the centre of the town. Located 2 Km to the north-east of the town is Bhagsu. It is a small bustling town, replete of restaurants, shops, and public places. Another interesting place in the town is Dharamkot which is 3.5 km from McLeod Ganj and is set on top of a hill. It is an ideal place for the sightseers and those who like some outdoor actions.

The Gaggal Airport near Kangra is the nearest airport to the town.
