Mahabaleshwar Maharashtra’s priced possession, and the state’s largest hill station, Mahabaleshwar is a picturesque place that lies at a distance of 120 km, southwest of Pune. With salubrious environs, and picture perfect panoramas, Mahabaleshwar is one of the most sought after honeymoon destinations in India. Venna Lake, Mapro Garden, Pratapgad, etc. are the most attractive points in this city. The place is ideal for a rejuvenating holiday experience without having to shed a heavy amount of money.


2. Solapur A bit towards the south-eastern part of Maharashtra, lies this little, less visited city of Solapur, or Sholapur. The distance between Pune and Solapur is 252 km by road, which can be easily covered by a car for a leisurely road trip. One can also opt for a Solapur to Pune train, that takes about 5 hours to reach the destination, but is comparatively cheaper, and more comfortable. The city has striking fortifications with the likes of Fortress of Naldurg, Parenda Fort, etc. Other attractive tourist spots include the Trivikrama Temple, Pandharpur, Vithoba Temple, etc.


3. Satara Formerly, this town of Satara served as the capital of the great Maratha Empire, under Shivaji’s grandson, Shahu. Today, this quaint town of Satara, has an opulent appeal with several palaces embellished to its glorious image. By any chance, do not forget to visit the magnificent Kaas Plateau in this region. It is truly a wonderland, a land full of flowers. Other significant sites to tour around in Satara are Thoseghar Falls, Koyna Dam, Pratapgarh Fort, Natraj Mandir, etc.


4. Pune Pune, which was once a base to the ministers of the Maratha Empire, is now a sprawling city, famous for its Aga Khan Palace, built in 1892. It is emerging as a pulsating metro which is a hub of education, IT industry, entertainment, and a lot more. The gorgeous twin hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala are just a few kilometres away from this place, and are the favourite jaunts for people touring Pune.

5. Kolhapur Kolhapur, famous for its namesake chappals (Kolhapuri chappals), lies 115 km south of Satara. The city has a plethora of intriguing tourist attractions, and also serves an important travel base to explore other places in Maharashtra. The distance between Pune to Kolhapur is 237 km, one can take Pune to Kolhapur train to reach easily. And, since this city is well connected by roads and railway to major cities around, it is pretty easy to reach Kolhapur.
