Eyebrow Grooming for Men

Most men want to create a clean and pulled-together look, yet hold on to a natural and masculine appearance. Believe it or not, the brows are one of the first things that people notice, outside of a winning smile, of course. The eyebrows are a hallmark of who you are—they give you expression. They can make a man appear tough or weak, approachable, or standoffish. If he’s too strong or even too weak, people may not give him a second look. So, how can he get a great look that truly reflects his personality? From trimming a few stray hairs to taking out that unibrow, here are a few easy and relatively painless steps to getting the brow that’s perfect for his face.

The unibrow. Thinning out the middle. A popular misconception is that the unibrow should be removed completely. That is not always the case. The best rule of thumb in this area is to take out a few of the thicker hairs, leaving some of the finer ones. This will make the unibrow appear less noticeable without going entirely hair-free. Find out where the eyebrows start and end. Using a straight edge, line it up along the outer ball of the nose to the brows. This will be the inner edge of the brow. Don’t go too deep. Just stick to the stray hairs along the bottom part of the brow, removing ones just outside of the brow’s natural shape.

Tweezers. Use good quality tweezers to make the job quicker and less painful. Slanted tweezer work the best for eyebrows. To avoid a tear-inducing trim session, try trimming right after a shower, when the skin is relaxed. The hair will slide right out without much pain.

Waxing. Waxing can remove the fine hairs, so it’s a better choice for anyone who wants a hairless, super clean look. However, if new to grooming your brows, try tweezing them first.

Shaping. Sometimes, a simple trim is enough. To trim, brush brows upward with a comb and trim away the hair above the shape with a pair of hair scissors. Next, take a fine-toothed comb and place it down into the brow at a 45 degree angle, then trim away the excess hairs, as short as desired. Be careful, however, not to take away too much.

Final steps. Follow the steps once more and attend to any extra stray hairs, if necessary. To maintain, clean up the stray hairs every few weeks.
