DR ALICE BUNN OBE FIMECHE CEO, INSTITUTION OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS
Welcome to Formula Student 2023
As CEO of the IMechE, it gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to this special anniversary year of Formula Student.
From the heat of last year’s competition that saw our first Scottish champions crowned, I am excited to enjoy an exciting five days of engineering in action and hopefully in the same glorious summer weather.
From its small, humble beginnings in Birmingham to becoming the biggest event of our calendar, the importance of this competition cannot be understated, and Formula Student remains a crucial part of the Institution’s vision to engage with and support engineers of the future.
Our values of impact, inclusivity, integrity and innovation continue to be well represented in the garages this year as teams from around the world hone and demonstrate their skills learned inside and outside of classrooms.
Between the growing number of FS-AI teams, electric vehicle development and the use of biofuels for the first time, it’s clear that the competition and the wider automotive and motorsports sectors have a bright and sustainable future ahead of them.
I want to remind all participants to take some time over the competition to get out of your garages and visit all the partner and sponsor marquees lined along the
paddock. This is a unique chance to meet and speak with those in industry to get their advice, secure future support for your team and most importantly, to learn about placement and graduate opportunities.
Who knows, you may just meet with an organisation over the next few days who offers you your first role, so don’t miss out!
A massive thank you is due to all the volunteers who help put on Formula Student throughout the year, from the committee members, judges, scrutineers and safety professionals to the marshals, live dynamics team and sim racing experts – and everyone else!
I would like to thank all the volunteers who help run Formula Student and without whose generous support and commitment, the competition could not take place.
To all the young people watching the action, whether spectating in the trackside stands or the online livestream: this is what a career in engineering looks like!
To all the teams, I wish you the best of luck this year – I’ll be in the stands watching all the action!
Dr Alice Bunn OBE FIMechE CEO, Institution of Mechanical Engineers

02. Welcome 02. Welcome
DR ANDREW DEAKIN FIMECHE CHAIR,
FORMULA STUDENT ORGANISING COMMITTEE
Welcome to Formula Student 2023!
How time flies; it seemed like only yesterday that we were marking our last big anniversary in the hot summer of 2018 and I am delighted to be celebrating the competition’s 25 anniversary in the UK with you all. With more electric vehicles competing than any other powertrain entry, 2023 is clearly the tipping point where more and more teams will make the switch from traditional combustion engines in the coming years. After many teams experienced growing pains in 2022, this year will be a chance for students to show what they’ve learned over the past twelve months and incorporate feedback from last year’s competition. We will continue to support teams developing combustion vehicles as part of our broader strategy to enable as many students as possible to compete in Formula Student. Thanks to our partnership with Motorsport UK and Coryton Fuels we are pleased that we are able to offer 100% sustainable fuel options for the first time. Whether the E85 or a 95 RON E10, this represents a step in the right direction for making the competition more carbon neutral.
Elsewhere, the FS-AI competition continues to go from strength to strength and at over 20 teams FS-AI is the largest it has ever been, mirroring the growing needs of industry to develop accurate and robust automated systems. Meanwhile, our dedicated Sim Racing committee have continued to host monthly races with even more teams around the world, providing new opportunities for students to learn about virtual dynamics setup, testing and
optimisation while participating in lively, competitive online racing.
No matter which area of the competition you participate in, Formula Student continues to challenge thousands of students with a fully-fledged project that is as close to the real world as it gets. With well over 50,000 students and counting having benefitted from the last 25 years of the competition, I am proud to have helped support and develop the talents of young engineers and hope that your new skills and experience will serve you well as you move into your first roles in industry. On behalf of the Organising Committee and the IMechE, we are grateful for the continued support of our event partners Ansys, Bentley Motors, MathWorks and Red Bull Engineering Academy, FS-AI Partner Babcock International, Category Sponsors MAHLE Powertrain, Polestar, RS Grass Roots and The Faraday Institution and sponsors Mercedes AMG HPP, Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One, IPG Automotive, McLaren Applied, Newton Europe, AB Dynamics, Embed UK, PTC, Royal Automobile Club and Multimatic.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our committee members and volunteers past and present for their expertise and dedication over the years. It’s been a pleasure working with you all to make Formula Student the biggest and best event in the IMechE’s calendar.
Best of luck to all teams taking part; we’ll see you and your cars out on track!
Dr. Andrew Deakin Chair, IMechE Formula Student

02. Welcome
02. Welcome
What is Formula Student?
Formula Student is Europe’s most established educational engineering competition which uses motorsport to inspire students. Backed by industry and high-profile engineers such as Patron, Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to develop enterprising and innovative young engineers and encourage more young people to take up a career in engineering.
The competition is split into two parts: static events, which test the team’s business logic, design and costing skills, and dynamic events, which test the performance and durability of their vehicle.
All students get a chance to demonstrate their technical, engineering design and manufacturing skills while meeting deadlines. Gaining experience in teamwork, time and project management, budgeting and more, students come out of the competition with valuable and practical skills that set them up for a bright career in engineering.
THE CHALLENGE
The competition is split into two parts: static events, which test the team’s business logic, design and costing skills, and dynamic events, which test the performance and durability of their vehicle.
The teams are tasked to produce a prototype for a single-seat race car for autocross or sprint racing and present it to a hypothetical manufacturing firm. The car must be high performance in terms of its acceleration, braking and handling qualities whilst being low in cost, easy to maintain and reliable. During the competition the teams must demonstrate the logic behind the proposal and must be able to demonstrate that it can support a viable business model with rigorous testing.
Developed with FS partners IPG Automotive, the now mandatory Lap Time Simulation event will also see students develop skills in developing vehicles using virtual testing techniques, further adding to their skills.
Growing each year, Formula Student –Artificial Intelligence (FS-AI) challenges student teams to develop an AI driver capable of controlling a vehicle through a series of real-world challenges. The competition is designed to evolve to keep pace with the skills requirements of the UK Autonomous vehicles and Artificial Intelligence sectors.
Teams compete across several event categories, including the requirement for the students to consider Real World Autonomous scenarios
Students have the option to design and run their own autonomous vehicle while developing their AI code. Alternatively, they may use the competition’s purpose-built Autonomous Driving Systems Driverless Vehicle (ADS-DV), which has been developed by the IMechE with funding from the Centre for Connected & Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) via Innovate UK.

Sim Racing Series
A “Fun E-sports Series” exclusive
to Formula Student competitors.
The 21st century has seen demands from the engineering industry evolve as computer, simulation and data-based methods are seen to be just as important as traditional means of mechanical and design engineering – moreover, the disruptions and adjustments forced on organisations just to survive the COVID pandemic escalated the need for these modern solutions.
Formula Student has always been seen as the testing ground for the next generation of world-class engineers to utilise their skills and the challenges we create have always been about providing students with scenarios relevant to what you will experience after graduating.
The origins of the series trace back to 2020 when the COVID pandemic forced that year’s contest to be run entirely virtually. Even though the competition returned to Silverstone in 2021, demand for the virtual contest to remain was strong as firms in industry noticed the increasing number of individuals transferring the skills gained from their respective e-Sports antics into their professional engineering careers.
Hence, Formula Student launched a dedicated Sim Race Series in October 2021, with 26 universities logging onto a server once a month to out-race and outstrategise their rivals on a variety of car and track combinations. The final round of the inaugural series ran during the Formula Student 2022 competition, with Southampton securing the overall title.
For the 2022/2023 season, the competition attracted a bumper grid of 47 universities around the world and has been further developed with a combination of races and other challenges throughout the academic year. Teams have the chance to work on a variety of data analysis projects to provide vehicle dynamic evaluation, driver training and coaching, split second race strategy decisions and other “teamworkdependent problem solving” criteria that will benefit their team’s preparation for the formal Formula Student competition.
8x Rounds of Sim Racing held between November 2022 and July 2023: from racing MX-5s in the pouring rain at Portimao to DPis at Spa-Francorchamps at Sunset and everything in between, teams enjoyed monthly races online. A limited allocation of tyre compounds and reduction of ballast or “joker” for the season has meant teams needed to test and simulate combinations well in advance to identify which strategies would work best at each round. Being forced to commit early in the season to their strategies left rivals second guessing as to who each round will be quickest as they wait to see when the faster soft compound or weight reduction joker has been unleashed! This has resulted in some superb and at times unpredictable racing to watch on Formula Student’s YouTube channel.
4x Engineering Challenges: Hosted between Sim Racing rounds, this competition is unique compared to other e-Sports as teams win points based solely on their engineering interpretation. Teams are provided with a scenario where the vehicle does not perform as expected and must resolve the issue using restricted setup parameters on the vehicle to
achieve a stated objective. This is not simply a case of the team posting the best or most improved lap as they must submit an engineering analysis on a single sheet of A4 paper to determine the problem and solutions they used, implementing data from their MoTeC files to support their theory. A suite of engineers from various disciplines then judge the reports, using a benchmark submission from Williams e-Sports for comparison.
The Sim Racing Series is run separately from the main Formula Student competition and currently no points count towards a team’s final score. Despite this, students remain incredibly committed to the challenge and several achievements in learning by participating have already been realised; from one team transitioning from “never heard of Gran Turismo” at the start of the season to podium contenders by season end, to another team who regularly commit 400 laps of practice per round and apply these skills into their full Formula Student team, to even individual drivers who use their experience of the FS Sim Racing Series to obtain a related job in industry.
As our event captain James Montgomery has always said to the competitors: “the Series is for you, what do you want to get out of it?” If you’re thinking of joining for next year, what can we do to make your Sim Racing Series more fun? We look forward to welcoming you next season!
The finals of this year’s Sim Racing Series will be livestreamed on the afternoon of 21 July 2023 during the FS2023 competition; to follow all the action simply visit the Formula Student YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@fsimeche

The 2023 Formula Student competition is a fantastic opportunity for the automotive and motorsport engineers of the future to experience and deploy leading edge technologies in a stimulating motorsport scenario. By funding the use of sustainable fuels for those teams that choose an internal combustion engine, we hope to inspire the next generation of engineers to have a broad view of the future technologies of propulsion.
Hugh Chambers, CEO of Motorsport UK
Formula Student partners with Coryton Fuels and Motorsport UK to offer sustainable fuels
We’re delighted to be involved with Formula Student and to get the opportunity to showcase the potential of sustainable fuels when it comes to the continuation of the ICE. As we often say - the ICE in itself is not ‘dirty’, it’s only the fossil fuels used within it. Sustainable fuels are here and ready now and should be used alongside every available technology to help tackle climate change.
David Richardson, Business Development Director, Coryton
In 2021 Motorsport UK launched its sustainability strategy wherein we laid out our commitment to reducing the emissions of motorsport across the United Kingdom. Sustainable fuels are one of the tools we have to make that change happen. They are compatible with existing ICE architecture with very little if no adaptation and offer similar performance, however can reduce the emissions of one car by as much as 85%. The engineers of the future will be critical to showcasing this technology and pushing development beyond motorsport. We are delighted to provide them with an opportunity to work with these more sustainable options.
Jessica Runicles, Head of Sustainability of Motorsport UK
For the first time, Formula Student will offer sustainable fuel options for teams developing internal combustion vehicles in the upcoming competition
Motorsport UK, the governing body for motorsport in the UK, has provided a grant for entrants to use Coryton sustainable fuels in ICE powertrains within the Formula Student competition.
The sustainable fuels offered by Coryton will offer an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for the combustion vehicles using it at Formula Student, when compared to fossil fuelbased equivalents, without sacrificing performance. It will also bring the competition in line with Motorsport UK’s objectives to achieve greater sustainability across all motorsport series.
First announced during the 2022 finals event, teams running internal combustion vehicles will now have the chance to use one of two 100% sustainable/non-fossil fuels – an E85 and a 95 RON E10 - as well as the standard 99 RON that has traditionally been provided.
The sustainable fuels are second generation biofuels, made from agricultural, forestry and food processing waste. The carbon in the fuels is effectively recycled from the atmosphere, rather than additional CO2 being released from fossil fuels.
While the number of university teams developing electric cars for the competition mirrors the same trend in the automotive industry, the provision of these new sustainable fuels is part of Formula Student’s commitment to support teams of students that are not able to make a change to electric powertrains in the near future, whether due to economic or technical limitations.
“Offering sustainable fuels for the IC entries is a key part of our broader strategy to remain technology agnostic and keep the barriers to entry as low as possible,” said Dan Jones, Chief Judge for the Formula Student competition. ”This ensures that as many students as possible have the opportunity to take part in Formula Student, as well as demonstrating that combustion powered motorsport has a sustainable future.”
This development follows the growing trend across all motorsport series, with race series such as Formula Two and Formula Three also debuting a 55% mix fuel in 2023 and Formula One working to develop a 100% sustainable fuel as a key part of its commitment to reach Net Zero Carbon by 2030 and full use of sustainable fuels by 2026.
The Organising Committee would like to thank Motorsport UK and Coryton Fuels for their support of this endeavour.

ASU RACING TEAM
Ain Shams University Racing Team was founded in 2010 with the aim of reviving the automotive industry in Egypt. The team consists of multidisciplinary students all aiming to design, build and test a formula student vehicle. The team is structured according to the design requirements and later restructured to accommodate the manufacturing of the vehicle and the competition events.
This year the team will be targeting a solid performance in both static and dynamic events as the vehicle is designed with a certain philosophy and reasonable targets focusing on durability and cost efficiency.
The new 250 kg vehicle features a steel tube space frame with 10” R20 Hoosier tires and a 4-cylinder Honda CBR600 RR that outputs 69 hp and 58Nm torque.

CARDIFF RACING
This year Cardiff Racing are returning to FSUK for their 20th Competition with their latest and greatest car – CR19. After competitive entries over the last two years, CR19 learns from past successes, building on areas of strength and ironing out areas of weakness. Visibly CR19 will retain the team’s stale hybrid aluminium honeycomb and steel space frame chassis, this year with a greater emphasis on optimising accessibility and serviceability. Powered by a Triumph 675 Street Triple
fuelled by E85, CR19’s 102BHP punch will be controlled by an E-Throttle, and their optimised active aerodynamics package will help to optimise their performance. Cardiff Racing have been working tirelessly to fine-tune CR19, and are excited to compete and show off their hard work. With high goals for the competition, they are eager and excited to hit the track. TEAM!

A team still in their infancy, SBR had a promising start by passing scrutineering (the 1st debut team to do so in 10 years) with only 5 minutes to spare. This year, the team want to pass scrutineering before the dynamic events on Saturday start. They will achieve this by: focusing on reliability and simplicicty, and ensuring the car is developed in time for substantial testing.
The team turned up to the event with no previous experience of the competeition. As such, extensive notes were collected from the 2022 competition to bolster development and preparation for 2023. The team is ready and raring to go for this year’s competition, and is aiming for a top 10 position, having competed in every dynamic event not just endurance.

Staffordshire Uni Racing are entering their seventh year of competition with their fifth dynamic vehicle. The team have accomplished many successes in recent years. In 2021, they won the 1st year vehicle class, placed 2nd overall and received the Spirit of FS award. In 2022 they finished 4th overall and achieved the fastest lap award. These achievements have cemented SUR as one of the UK’s front-running teams.
As a small team of less than 20, they pride themselves on their build quality and reliability. This quality is evidenced by being the only team in the competition’s history to be first through scrutineering two years in a row, with the aim to make it three. The team are targeting another overall top 5 finish in 2023. The Team would like to extend a massive thanks to our Faculty Advisor, Martin Dunn as well as all of our incredibly generous sponsors.

MORE MODENA RACING COMBUSTION
MoRe Modena Racing Combustion is an italian team from Modena, in the heart of the Motor Valley, aiming to compete at the top level in the Formula Student competitions. The team has been competing in Formula Student since 2003. It consists of approximately 100 undergraduate students who study a range of courses such as Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Business. High power-to-weight ratio, full monocoque and longitudinal mounted engine represent key features of MMR Combustion cars. The M23-L features a custom four cylinders inline engine based on the Suzuki GSX-R, with a custom crank mechanism to bring
displacement to 708 cc; the engine is mounted longitudinally, with the use of a self-developed bevel gear final transmission. Moreover, the team aims at having a performing car but also cares about present necessities, choosing a fuel with a low carbon footprint, such as E85. The suspension layout is a pull-rod in the front and a pushrod in the rear. Most of the front suspension elements are hidden under the chassis in order to avoid their influence on the aerodynamics. MMR team can’t wait to catch up with all the teams at Silverstone as did on the 2019 wining the first position overall.

UCL FORMULA STUDENT
UCL Formula Student made a strong return to competition at FSUK 2022, drawing attention as they finished 2nd in the sprint and claimed an overall finish of 21st, the best for a UCL team. There was heartbreak in the endurance, with their car crawling to a halt metres from the finish, however, this couldn’t have left the team more motivated. Having shown the merits of a compact car design for navigating the tight Formula Student circuits, the team is continuing to pursue this concept, focussing on reducing mass and maximising
mechanical grip rather than adding prominent aero features which can detract from manoeuvrability. For 2023, the small and diverse UCL Formula Student team, with 20 members hailing from over 10 countries, is aiming to complete all events and have their eyes set on the podium.

they encountered challenges due to the pandemic. This year, the team dedicated significant time and energy to overcome these obstacles and improve their car’s performance and functionality. They are now determined to regain their position among the top competitors! Clear River Racing owes much of their success to the generous support of their sponsors. Clear River Racing would also like to express their gratitude to Karlstad University and their team advisors, Kent Evermark and Caroline Adolfsson Åhs, for their unwavering trust and support throughout the years.

LJMU E-RACING TEAM
LJMU e-Racing Team will be competing this year with their electrically powered vehicle at FSUK 2023. The team has a successful history of competing with an IC vehicle, and FSUK 2022 was their first opportunity to showcase the EV car, the LJMU 22-e. This year, they are aiming their sights on successfully navigating through scrutineering and to see the car perform on track in the dynamic events.
Upkeeping with their heritage in FSUK, the e-Racing Team will look to score highly in the static events. The design of LJMU 23-e centres around the YASA-750 electric powertrain, and engineering focus lies specifically within
incorporation of robustness and dependability. Through use of various testbeds and dynamometer testing, the reliability of the control systems that characterise the powertrain have been rigorously analysed to ensure satisfactory operation. The LJMU e-Racing Team would like to extend a huge thank you to sponsors and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Liverpool John Moores University their ongoing support of the Formula Student programme and enabling the Team to compete at Silverstone again.

UMD RACING
After developing eleven combustion cars, UMD Racing decided to switch to electric cars and built the first electric car “E-Bert” in 2022. Although we managed only 2 out of 4 technical inspections at Formula Student Czech Republic, we received a lot of praise from other teams and judges for the reasonable and clean work, which makes us even more proud as a first-year team. A few weeks FSCz we were able to collect more than 100 testing kilometers within just a few days. Now everyone finally agrees: an electric race car was absolutely the right decision! We are now in the middle of the 2023 season and production of our latest
electric car is in full swing. We are looking forward to competing at Formula Student UK and Formula Student Germany this summer and representing not only the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, but also, as the only team in Saxony-Anhalt, our entire state. The team is highly motivated to pass all technical scrutineering this year and to finish the Endurance with a respectable time.

FORMULA ELECTRIC RACING NUST
Formula Electric Racing –NUST (FERN) is Pakistan’s first Formula Student electric team and has previously participated in FSAE Electric 2016, Formula Student UK 2018, 2020, Concept Class 2021 & Formula Student Russia 2021. The team has made 4 Formula style EVs since its inception, and is going to participate in FSUK 2023 with its fourth EV. The team consisting of four divisions (Mechanical, Electrical, Autonomous, & Marketing and Communications) eventually reports to a team lead and a team manager.
For this year’s participation, the car’s reliability, rule compliancy and compact packaging was of paramount importance.
PCB manufacturing was outsourced, instead of inhouse etching. The 2023 battery pack uses Li-ion cylindrical cells in modules of 8 compared to previous cells consisting of Li-Po pouch cells. The cells were purchased and the modules designed by the team itself. With the help of various technical sponsors, a new self-designed BMS was also incorporated this year.

VERMILION RACING
Vermilion Racing, representing the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), is gearing up to compete in this year’s FSUK competition with an electric vehicle. This will be the new team’s second appearance, and after a year-long hiatus caused by the pandemic, we have come back stronger with a renewed focus on reliability. Our team has been working hard to design and manufacture components with a focus on simplicity, to increase our chances of competing in the dynamic events.
Our main goal for this season is to make it through scrutineering for the first time, and we are also aiming to perform well in all of the static events. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of our sponsors, team advisor Professor Nenad Mijatovic, and DTU for their unwavering support.

Accompanying a refined spaceframe chassis, tailored to an electric powertrain, is an allnew high-voltage accumulator, constructed of Enepaq cell modules providing 350VDC to the EV powertrain alongside a custom AMS. Additionally, the team will refine last year’s
composite aerodynamics package with sustainability as a focal point, using recycled carbon fibre and recycled plastic wing elements. For the team’s first electric vehicle entry, the primary focus is on EV scrutineering with a great emphasis on safety and testing, as well as maintaining the comprehensive mechanical understanding within the team. The team has achieved recordbreaking success in recent years, and while a naturally ambitious team at heart, cost and manufacturability will be balanced against performance to meet the ultimate goal of a running electric car at competition.

UH RACING
The 2023 season sees UH Racing, from the University of Hertfordshire, design and manufacture UH26, which the team hopes will produce one of their best performances yet. Following the Coronavirus pandemic and technical hurdles, the team is looking to build on their strong static performance at the 2022 event and produce their first electric vehicle in over 13 years. UH26 is the most ambitious vehicle UH Racing has produced, with the introduction of a 579.6VDC, 7.45kWh accumulator housed within a Kevlar and FR4 accumulator container designed to transfer power to all four wheels through a control system utilising a Cosworth PDU and two LenzeSchmidhauser inverters.
Custom Fischer motors provide 29.1N/m of torque to each in-house designed 9:1 ratio epicyclic gearbox. The chassis is a high-strength tubular T45 steel spaceframe fitted with Ceconite, fibreglass and CFRP bodywork. UH26’s front suspension system implements decoupled roll and heave using previously procured Multimatic Formula Student dampers. Even though the team has faced several hurdles since the initial conception of design, the team has and will continue to persevere to achieve a successful 2023 competition season.

The University of Nottingham Race Team is passionate about working at the forefront of electric racing car development. This group of capable and determined students are look looking to build on the successes of the 2021 competition, focusing on three key areas. First, reliability of the vehicle and new powertrain is continually being improved through rigorous static and dynamic testing. Second, the new vehicle design is considerably lighter. Third, the second generation accumulator under development offers
significantly increased power and energy densities, accomplished through a new cylindrical cell-based layout. In parallel, UoNRT is working on the drivability and strategic aspects of the competition experience. They hope to achieve more responsive and lighter steering for the driver, and better fuel economy through smart energy consumption per lap during the endurance event. Overall, UoNRT endeavours to inspire and equip students to work towards sustainable transport (and racing!) in the future.

FORMULA STUDENT BIZKAIA
Formula Student Bizkaia team has yearly built a single seater type vehicle since 2008. During its history, several technological steps have been introduced, with the aim of reaching the technological level of the leading teams of Formula Student competitions. The FSB2023 is the successor of the FSB2022, the 1st AWD vehicle of the team, which failed to achieve any point in the dynamic tests. That is why the FSB2023 has been designed with the objective of fixing those parts that did not work correctly on its predecessor, without making major changes on those other parts that worked properly.
All this, trying to maximise reliability, as 200km of testing are wanted to make, in order to validate all the assemblies which were firstly introduced for the AWD concept last season. Most of the changes are mainly focused on mitigating Electromagnetic interferences and preventing electrical contact failures on the electic side, which were the principal source of problems in the last seasons. With the FSB2023, Formula Student Bizkaia aims to return to the top positions of the competitions, by adding Dynamic event scores to the great performances in the last seasons’ Static Events.

Warwick Racing, the University of Warwick’s Formula Student Team, are a cross disciplinary team of tenacious engineers fixed on one goal: producing a performance electric racing vehicle. The team are aiming for competitive performance in the dynamics with the next generation EV, WRe2, continuing on from the successes experienced with WRe1. WRe2 features all new custom accumulator packs made in-house - a rarity amongst FS teams.
Having spent much development time on motor control and facilitating torque vectoring, the batteries are expected to deliver formidable performance across all dynamic events.
Leveraging the team’s experience with topology optimisation, components such as bulkheads, uprights, and brackets have been optimised to the lightest practical mass. Warwick Racing would like to thank all those involved with the project for their ongoing support.

MORE MODENA RACING HYBRID
MMR MoRe Modena Racing was born in 2003 in the heart of the Italian Motor Valley, thanks to the initiative of 5 passionate engineering students. Over the years, the team has evolved and expanded and in 2017 the new Hybrid Team was born. Debuting at the FSUK2018concept class, MMR Hybrid is the first team to partake in a Formula Student Competition with a Full Hybrid Prototype.Combining a Single-Cylinder 477cc engine based on the Ducati 959V2 ICE with an electric motor, the team seeks to maximize the benefits of both technologies, producing a prototype that not only has high performance, but also low emissions. The Power Unit is mounted longitudinally, its power is delivered by means of an in-house developed Bevel Gear Transmission.
It aims at delivering the same driving experience of traditional ICE powered cars with an eye to environmental impact and improved overall performance. As a result, driveability is greatly improved, thanks to a more responsive throttle and a higher torque output. More than a combustion car, more than an electric car: this car takes the best of both worlds.

FS TEAM UTTEJIT
FS Team Uttejit is going to take part in a competition associated in the FS calendar for the first time. The team considers FSUK as a platform to upscale themselves and as an opportunity to exhibit their potential at an international level. The team specifically chose FSUK as the competition due to the flexibility in terms of categories. As the team is participating for the first time in FSUK, their main aim is to build a reliable car which will successfully complete all the dynamic events.
The team roots extend back to 2013, where its groundwork was laid to manufacture a highperformance vehicle keeping environment in mind.
Five years on, as the reigning champions of Asia’s largest formula student competition:
The ISIE-Hybrid Vehicle Challenge (HVC), Formula Imperial, we can say that they have been successful in that pursuit. Last season, Team Uttejit stood 3rd overall and 2nd in Business and Cost.
This season the team aim’s to achieve even greater heights than their previous seasons.

Sakarya Racing was founded in September 2021. Our team consists of 16 students active members and also the team includes over 50 students in the reserve team who students are from mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical and electronic engineering. Vehicle and Performance Strategy; to manufacture a high-performance auto-cross vehicle, we are planning to optimize the weight of the design every part in the vehicle, and to make sure that our vehicle will give the
best driving experience we are going to build the critical parts – especially unsprung mass and rotating parts - from low - weight materials like Carbon fibers, Mg, Al, etc. On the other hand, to lower the manufacturing cost and increase the sustainability of our vehicle we will build our car’s frame using steel tubes, and acquire major parts like engine, ECU, differential, dampers, etc. through suppliers so we decrease our initial investment. as designing and manufacturing these parts is not economical.

The EUFS team from the University of Edinburgh is entering their eighth car, SISU23E, which marks their first fully electric vehicle in the FS-Class. Their full commitment to the electric drivetrain this year has led to remarkable progress, supported by internal restructuring which saw the merge of the Powertrain and Electronics sub-teams from both the AI and FS-Class. At the outset of the year, the team identified three primary objectives to guide their efforts: complete all dynamic events to maximise dynamic points, conduct 500km of testing for better powertrain and dynamics understanding,
and place greater emphasis on knowledge transfer through comprehensive documentation and increased hands-on opportunities for newer members. The EUFS team wishes to express their immense gratitude to the University of Edinburgh for their unwavering support during this challenging year.
The team also acknowledges the invaluable contributions of their sponsors, whose unwavering commitment and support have been instrumental in the team’s success and progress.

UGRACING
UGRacing’s concept team will enter FSUK 2023 with passion and motivation after record breaking success in 2022, where UGR were crowned FSUK champions. The team’s concept entries have succeeded in recent years with a 3rd place finish in 2021’s Design Event and 9th overall last year. This year they look to take inspiration from technology used to create the first electric car the team will manufacture for FSUK 2023 and build on ambitious plans for the future. This year’s concept car will
include a refined aerodynamic package, a hybrid chassis with a monocoque and rear spaceframe, custom accumulator, and twin electric motors. Furthermore, this entry will begin UGR’s transition to a combined electric-driverless future, and aim to implement their DDT development in preparation for an EV-ADS entry in years to come. The hard work done by this year’s concept team will continue to lay the foundation for the future vehicle iterations, and ultimately play a pivotal role in the team’s future success.

WARWICK RACING
This year Warwick Racing is proposing a new innovative chassis type, namely that of an adhesive-bonded aluminium monocoque structure. After first introducing the concept last year we have moved forwards with the idea and developed a full chassis around it. The construction of the chassis consists of 5 bulkheads along the vehicle with 4 extrusions connecting bulkheads to each other. In between these sit honeycomb panels.
All parts apart from the fixtures connecting the extrusions to the bulkheads are adhesively bonded using an industry-standard structural adhesive. The new concept meets the team’s goal of developing a novel design that significantly reduces weight while improving the vehicle’s performance.

WARWICK RACING
Warwick Racing AI is the University of Warwick’s first ever Formula Student AI Team! It is a diverse team of innovative engineers working to achieve one goal: producing a student-built, autonomous vehicle with an efficient electric powertrain. Following vigorous research and extensive experience from designing two other Formula Student EVs, the team debuts WRai1 for the ADS entry. It is expected to be truly competitive across all dynamic events while taking on the next challenge in motorsport – autonomy.
The team will be electrifying a previous ICE car and using recycled materials to reduce cost and carbon footprint. WRai1 will also feature Warwick Racing’s custom accumulator packs, made in-house. By building on nowledge of vehicle dynamics and drivetrain design, WRai1 will no less be a culmination of durability and innovation. As the industry moves towards automation and intelligent systems, the team aims to foster competent and skilled engineers that can contribute meaningfully.
