L
otte Pakistan PTA Limited has completed 40 Million Manhours without Lost Time Case on 24 October 2012 of employees and contractors. This significant achievement is an excellent demonstration of the company’s unwavering commitment towards Health, Safety & Environment. An unblemished record of 40 Million man-hours since the company’s inception clearly marks the successful implementation of our HSE Policy. Efforts are in progress in making our company a safe working place for our employees, contractors and visitors and to raise
HSE performance to the next level of excellence. Since the inauguration of the plant on 7 May, 1998, all safety incidents and unsafe acts are reviewed with reference to behavior, equipment, environment & management to ensure that standards are met. In order to celebrate this significant milestone, a ceremony was arranged on 27 November, 2012 at the Lotte PPTA Plant site. Mr. Asif Saad was the chief guest of the ceremony. Financial Results for the Year Ended 31 December 2012
otte PPTA’s much-awaited, final edition of the 2012 newsletter is here. The passing year has yet again been a remarkable year of achievements, recognition and success. The highlight of the year was the successful commissioning of the Lotte Co-Generation power plant, with honorable mentions for OHSAS and ISO 18001 certification, and the successful completion of 40 million man hours without LTC. Our CSR efforts were taken to a next level where we saw maximum employee participation in the “community wellness” month, where a series of activities were carried out, all focusing on the wellbeing of the community that we operate in. Apart from this, we also continued our partnership with FESF, KUFF and WWF. For the second year in succession, the learning year extravaganza was also organized for the employees of the Company. This is a clear indication of Lotte PPTA’s commitment to promote a learning culture within the organization. With this we conclude 2012 and enter 2013 with the hope that we continue to build on our achievements and success. The editorial team once again thanks every one for the support and encouragement shown towards “Life@ lotte PPTA” and hope you all continue sharing your success and achievements with us.

otte Pakistan PTA Limited achieved its second Fire & Safety Excellence Award and Certificate from the National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) & Fire Protection Agency Pakistan (FPAP), at the Marriott Hotel, Karachi, on 13th December 2012. He emphasized for the same commitment on HSE performance in the upcoming overhaul as well. Mr. Asif Saad appreciated the efforts of the employees and contractors in helping achieve this world-class benchmark. He explained how this significant achievement is a matter of pride for all Lotte PPTA employees and contractor staff for their continued commitment, positive attitude, adherence to safety rules and responsible approach towards HSE. He stressed on continued efforts in making Lotte PPTA a safe working place for our employees, contractors and visitors and raise HSE performance to the next level of excellence. In the end certificates were distributed to all contractors recognizing their efforts and contribution in achieving the millstone. otte PPTA’s philosophy has always been to nurture and develop its employees, to offer them more challenging roles, and ensure that every effort is made to enable them to achieve higher levels of success. Last year, the Human Resource department organized a Learning Extravaganza, an event that proved to be hugely popular with the company. As a result, we revisited the idea of another such event in 2012. Professional trainers were invited to conduct a series of sessions that provided Lotte PPTA employees with new skills, management expertise, and general knowledge. The sessions were open to all employees, and each session warranted a huge audience. The Extravaganza came to a conclusion with a session on Lotte’s Values, conducted at the DHA Creek Club. The session turned into an official ending to the whole affair, with a celebratory High Tea following the event. Medical Camp
Lotte PPTA supported this program for the concept of “Better Tomorrow”. Employees of Lotte PPTA voluntarily visited the Gharoo Creek High Water Coastal Area of Port Qasim region for plantations of mangroves and trees.
A Medical Camp was set-up at Mehmood Goth near Ghaghar Phattak by the Company. This area was selected due to lack of medical facilities available for the locals. Medical camp was set up by Lotte PPTA to provide free of cost check up for the locals. Medicines were also distributed to those in need.

Lotus Notes Applications / Systems Developed in 2012 ith the passage of time, the use of lotus notes database has increased tremendously in our organization. Its usage has been increased from an e-mail system to a level where users are now demanding more systems and applications. In the year 2012 various applications and systems were developed and implemented, ranging from plant related systems to human resource related applications. Following is a brief introduction of the important systems and applications that were developed / modified during 2012:
HR Library System The HR department maintains an internal library. The books are regularly borrowed and returned by the readers. The problem with the manual system was that not all people were aware of books availability and its addition in the library. With the implementation of this system, the users can now read book’s profile, informed queued; informed about returning the book before its due date. Moreover, the librarian can easily track each book that has been issued and manage other tasks easily.
Post-Training Feedback System Benefits Processing System This system was developed for HR department. The staff attend a training session / course must fill out the post training feedback form. The feedback form is an auditable form and failure to complete these forms could result in a non-compliance issue. With the introduction of electronic version of the form, it has now become easy to generate, send and keep track of these forms.
The system was developed for the HR department. It is being used to process car loan, house rent advance, and house building assistance. The advantage is quick processing and tracking of these benefits. Moreover, users can also view that in the past which benefits they have availed.
Exit Interview System Market Research System This system was developed for the Commercial department. The market research team was finding it difficult to consolidate their documents. With this system, all their documents now are in one place making it possible to manage and search them easily.
The system was developed for the HR department. The purpose of this system is to record reasons for employee resignation. The form is initiated by immediate supervisor and finally reviewed by the Chief Executive. With the implementation of this system, the HR department would be better able to analyze the leaving reasons.
Plant Modification System Show Cause / Demand Database This system has been running for quite some time. Over the years, this system evolved and matured. Last year, valuable changes were made in the system and now it is fully digitized up to step 6. The advantage is easy tracking & retrieval of a mod.; raising a query and its resolution.
ECM Database This system was developed to ensure that ECM members are notified of ECM related notifications. Moreover, it also provides them a place where they could find relevant documents and other material easily.
This system was developed for the Finance department. The finance department received various notices and demands from various govt. department / bodies. These notices are time bound and therefore, need to be replied within a certain time. With the development of the system, it would be easy for them to keep track of these notices and demands. Moreover, it would also help them to quickly search for a particular notice / demand and its reply along with the documentation sent to them.
Progress Review Report As all of you are aware of the perfor-
mance appraisal system for the management and non-management employee. A similar system exists to evaluate the performance of management probationers and trainee employees. Earlier, the PRR of these categories of employees were paper based. With the introduction of this system, their periodic progress review reports can raise electronically. This would essentially help the concerned manager and HR to keep track of their progress and performance.
HSE Database A number of changes in the HSE database have been made. Notably, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 related procedures, internal and external reports, manuals, audit schedules, etc. has been segregated and can now be viewed separately.
Performance Appraisal System The development section of the performance appraisal system has revamped to make it more understandable and easy to enter the training and development needs of employees. The new format would also help the HR and training departments to view the progress of the training and development needs mentioned in the appraisal system. You may have noticed that last year HR and other departments were very keen to improve their old / manual systems. All the requested systems have developed and implemented which results in increase efficiency and reduce cost in terms of time and paper. Therefore, we encourage other departments to come forward and share their ideas and feedback of IT systems that are being used. We consider this to be an important tool which will not only help identify our strengths but, more importantly, will allow us to focus on areas of improvement in existing systems and to develop and implement appropriate solutions which ultimately save time and cost to the company and allow us to provide better service. So, let go of paper, embrace technology tools to automate systems. Our Slogan is “Information Technology… helping you do, what you do better”

Training on Internal Auditing for OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004

otte Pakistan PTA Limited has successfully achieved certifications of OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004 after a formal external audit conducted by URS on April 2012. For an effective implementation and continuous improvement, HSE and Technical Training department organized one day training session on Internal Auditing for the internal auditors’ team. The session was conducted by URS.

Its 20.5 MW synchronous motor is an engineering wonder and it has state-of-the-art control, protection and starter systems. The expertise of such a complex system is not available in Pakistan. In order to reduce the cost of spares and procurement, the Electrical team initiated to repair the cards and modules of the PAC. The Electrical team approached the manufacturer of the Excitation unit and after thorough technical and commercial discussions, OEM agreed to repair the unit and reprogram it as per the existing setup. For the repair, the unit was sent to France and was received after repairs. This repair has resulted in a cost saving of PKR 1.7 million approximately. s a commitment towards the timely commissioning of a power plant, Lotte PPTA Power Gen’s electrical team showed remarkable self-reliance in commissioning Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS) and DC chargers. Gutor Electronics, the vendor from whom this equipment was purchased, had declined to send engineers to Pakistan for security reasons. Uninterrupted Power Supplies and DC Chargers are essential to electrical and control systems as they provide continu-
ous power to critical equipment. The unavailability of the vendor’s engineer at the most critical phase of commissioning would have resulted in delays. However, the genuine cando attitude of Mr. Imranullah Khan and Mr. Mansoor Alam came to the rescue. They proceeded to commission the UPS and DC chargers themselves, proving that the Projects team has the potential By Faiza Malik to get past all obstacles in order to meet a deadline.

ue to changes in electrical network after commissioning of Gas Turbine, Instrument Air Compressor’s (C1-2902A) supply was through utility during normal plant operation. Unstable power supply from utility company resulted in frequent tripping, which could lead to mechanical damages on the compressor. Therefore, Electrical team took an initiative to shift power supply of IAC from utility supply to Gas Turbine, thus making the supply more reliable and stable.

The job was completed efficiently within agreed time frame during which motor power and control connections were modified and motor protection relay was installed and tested. The job was carried out in-house and this proactive solution has prevented mechanical damages. To ensure safe use of radiation sources, strict control and monitoring system is available at Lotte PPTA including regular inspection with radiation meters and monitoring of radiation dose level of selected workers by providing Thermo Luminescent Dosimetry (TLDs). On basis of dose limit analysis set by Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), all necessary precautions are taken where applicable and Lotte PPTA’s strict standards ensure that all exposure is below limit values.

A few months back, one of the two main steam isolation valves (6”, 1500lb gate valve) of Boiler ‘A’ was leaking excessively from the pillars supporting the hand wheel, apparently due to a damaged body-bonnet gasket. Due to the unavailability of spares, the body-bonnet gasket was welded to contain the leakage. The ultimate solution was either the

پورٹ قاسم پر مینگر ّووز لگانا /شجر کاری لوٹی پی پی ٹی اے نے اس پروگرام کا «بہرت کل» کے تصور کو فروغ دینے کیلئے کیا۔ لوٹی پی پی ٹی اے کے مالزمین نے مینگر ّووز اور درخت لگانے کیلئے رضاکارانہ طور پر پورٹ قاسم کے بلند سطح آب والے ساحلی عالقہ گھارو ندی کا دورہ کیا۔ میک اے وِش -پاکستان میک اے وش جو کہ ایک عاملی غیر رسکاری ادارہ (این جی او) ہے جو ایسے بچوں کی دلی خواہش پوری کرتا ہے جو کسی ناقابلِ عالج مرض کا شکار ہوں۔ لوٹی پی پی ٹی اے نے 03بچوں کی خواہشات کو حقیقت کا روپ دینےکیلئے میک اے وِش فاؤنڈیش کے ساتھ ہاتھوں میں ہاتھ ڈالے۔ از :رضوان احمداور راجہ وحید اللہ خان
ایس او ایس ولیج کا دورہ
ایس او ایس چلڈزنز ولیج (یتیم خانہ ملیر چھاؤنی )،خاندانوں کو طبی سہولیات ،تعلیم اور مشاورت کی شکل میں دامئی معاونت فراہم کرتا ہے۔ لوٹی پی پی ٹی اے کے رضاکار مالزمین نے ایسے بچوں کے ساتھ وقت گزارنے کیلئے اس ولیج کا دورہ کیا۔
ط ّبی کیمپ کمپنی کی جانب سے گھاگھر پھٹاک کے نزدیک محمود گوٹھ میں ایک طبّی کیمپ کا اہتامم کیا گیا۔ اس عالقہ کا انتخاب مقامی افراد کو دستیاب طبّی سہولیات کی کمی کے باعث کیا گیا۔ لوٹی پی پی ٹی اے کی جانب سے طبّی کیمپ کا اہتامم مقامی افراد کو بال معاوضہ معائنہ کی سہولت فراہم کرنے کیلئے کیا گیا تھا۔ ساحل کی صفائی ہاکس بے پر ساحل کی صفائی کی رسگرمی کا اہتامم کیا گیا ،جہاں متام رضا کار مالزمین نے ساحل کی صفائی کی۔

Lotte PPTAکیلئے 9واں ساالنہ اینوائرمنٹ ایکسیلنس ایوارڈ (امتیازی اعزاز برائے ماحولیات) Lotte PPTAملیٹڈ کو 12جوالئی 2012کو نیشنل فورم فار اینوائرمنٹ اینڈ ہیلتھ (این ایف ای ایچ) کی جانب سے 9منقدہ ایک پُر وقار تقریب میں 9واں ساالنہ اینوائرمنٹ ایکسیلنس ایوارڈ (امتیازی اعزاز برائے ماحولیات) عطاء کیا گیا۔ Lotte PPTA کو اس اعزاز کی دوڑ میں شامل 175نامور کمپنیز میں دورسے منرب پر نامزد کیا گیا۔ جانچ کاری این ِ مجلس منتظمین کے ایک غیر ایف ای ایچ کی جانبدار پینل نے کی۔
اعلی کو ان کی قابلِ تحسین کارکردگی پر رساہا اور ٰ معیار کے اگلے درجہ کی جانب پیش قدمی جاری رکھنے کی رضورت پر زور دیا۔ یہ کامیابی Lotteکی ماحولیاتی تعمیل کے بہرتین طریقہ ہائے کار برقرار رکھنے کے عزم کا نتیجہ ہے، جس کا نتیجہ پالنٹ سائٹ پر ایک بہرت ماحول کی صورت میں ہے۔ کمپنی کا سختی سے ماننا ہے کہ ماحول کے تین ‘Reduce, Recycle and Reuse - ’R – طویل مدتی معاشی بقاء کیلئے الزم ہیں۔

جاسکے اور ان سے منٹنے کیلئے درکار اقدامات کا ایگزیکٹیو درجہ پر نگرانی کی جاتی ہے۔ اس اہم ِ سنگ میل کے حصول کی خوشی منانے کیلئے 27نومرب 2012میں Lotte PPTAکی پالنٹ سائٹ پر ایک تقریب کا اہتامم کیا گیا تھا۔ جناب آصف سعد (چیف ایگزیکٹو Lotte PPTAملیٹڈ) اس تقریب کے مہامنِ خصوصی تھے۔ اس میں کمپنی کے متام مالزمین اور کنٹریکٹرز (ٹھیکہ داران) نے شمولیت کی اور مہامنوں کی فہرست میں پورٹ قاسم کے عالقہ کی ہمسایہ صنعتوں کے مالزمین بھی شامل تھے۔ تقریب کے پروگرام کا آغ��از جناب ان��ور حسین (اسسٹنٹ پرچیز مینیجر) نے ‹قرآنِ پاک› کی تالوت سے کیا۔ ابتدائی کلامت میں ،جناب طارق مہدی (ایچ ایس ای اینڈ ٹیکنیکل ٹریننگ مینیجر) نے پالنٹ کے فعال ہونے سے اب تک ایچ ایس ای کی کارکردگی کا اور Lotteمیں حفاظت کے بلند ترین معیارات کے رسبلند رکھے جانے کا ِ پس منظر پیش کیا جس کو سینرئ مینیجمنٹ کی جانب سے مضبوط لگن اور یکساں نفاذ سے قوت ملتی ہے۔ جناب قمر ایچ منظور (جی ایم مینیوفیکچرنگ) نے Lotteایل پی پی ٹی اے کی جانب سے قائم کئے گئے امتیازی ریکارڈ کے متعلق بات کی اور سمجھایا کہ یہ کس طرح ایچ ایس ای کی پالیسیز
اور طریقہ ہائے کار کے سختی کے ساتھ نافذ کئے جانے اور 1998میں امور کے آغاز سے لے کر اب تک سائٹ پر کام کرنے والے ہر مالزم اور کنٹریکٹرز (ٹھیکہ داران) کی کارکردگی پر انتظامیہ کی شدید توجہ کا نتیجہ ہے۔ جناب محمد وسیم (جی ایم آپریشنز) نے اس پر روشنی ڈالی کہ یہ کامیابی -Lotteپی پی ٹی اے میں مالزمین اور کنٹریکٹرز کے ایچ ایس ای اینڈ ایس کے معیارات کے ساتھ لگاؤ کا عملی ثبوت ہے۔ انہوں نے ایچ ایس ای کے نفاذ کے متعلق بھی بات کی اور اس بارے میں بھی بات کی کہ مختلف ادوار میں مرکزی سقوق ب��رداران (شئیر ہولڈرز) کی تبدیلی کے باوجود ادارہ میں کارکردگی اپنی چوٹی پر ہے۔ انہوں نے آئندہ آرہی اوور ہال میں بھی اس ہی لگن کیلئے زور دیا۔ جناب آصف سعد (چیف ایگزیکٹو) نے اس عاملی ِ نقطہ حوالہ (بنچ م��ارک) کے حصول درجہ کے میں مدد کیلئے متام مالزمین اور کنٹریکٹرز (ٹھیکہ داران) کی کاوشوں کی تعریف کی۔ انہوں نے وضاحت کی کہ کس طرح یہ اہم کامیابی -Lotte پی پی ٹی اے کے متام مالزمین اور کنٹریکٹرز (ٹھیکہ داران) کیلئے ان کی مسلسل لگن ،مثبت رویہ ،حفاظتی اصولوں کی پابندی اور ایچ ایس ای کے متعلق ایک ذمہ دارانہ رویہ کی وجہ سے ِ باعث فخر ہے۔ انہوں نے Lotte PPTAکو ہامرے مالزمین ،کنٹریکٹرز (ٹھیکہ داران) اور دورہ پر آنے والوں کیلئے کام کرنے کی ایک محفوظ جگہ بنانے

Lotte PPTAکا فلسفہ ہمیشہ یہ رہا ہے کہ اپنے مالزمین کی تربیت کی جائے اور ان کی استعداد بڑھائی جائے ،ان کو زیادہ محنت طلب کردار دیے جائیں ،اور یقینی بنایا جائے کہ ان کو کامیابی کے بُلند تر درجات حاصل کرنے کے قابل بنانے کیلئے ہر ایک کوشش کی جائے۔
گزشتہ سال ،ہیومن ریسورس ڈیپارٹمنٹ نے ایک لرننگ ایکسٹرا ویگنزا کا انعقاد کیا ،ایک ایسی تقریب جو کہ کمپنی میں بہت زیادہ مقبول ثابت ہوئی۔ نتیجتاً ،ہم نے 2012میں ایسی ایک اور تقریب کے خیال پر غور کیا۔ تربیت دینے والے پیشہ ور افراد کو ایسے سیشنز کا ایک سلسلہ منعقد کرنے کیلئے مدعو کیا گیا جو Lotte PPTA کے مالزمین کو نئی صالحیتیں ،انتظامی مہارت، ِ معلومات عامہ فراہم کرے۔ یہ سیشنز متام اور مالزمین کیلئے دستیاب تھے ،اور ہر سیشن میں سامعین کی ایک کثیر تعداد کو یقینی بنایا گیا۔ یہ ایکسٹرا ویگنزا Lotteکی اقدار پر ایک سیشن پر اختتام پذیر ہوا ،جو کہ ڈی ایچ اے کرِیک کلب میں منعقد کیا گیا۔ یہ سیشن اس متام معاملہ کے رسمی اختتام کی شکل اختیار کر گیا ،جس میں
تقریب کے بعد جشن منا ہائی ٹی کا اہتامم تھا۔ Lotteکی اقدار کے متعلق لرننگ ایکسٹرا ویگنزا کے آخری سیشن میں رشکت کے بعد ،مالزمین نے تقریب کے متعلق اپنے خیاالت کا تبادلہ کیا؛ « Lotte PPTAکے ایکسٹرا ویگنزا نے مالزمین کے درمیان اپنی قدر منوا لی ہےاور ہم ہر سال اس تقریب کا انتظار کریں گے۔» کیپشنز Lotte :کی اقدار کی تربیتی تقریب کے رشکاءشیشن کے بعد اپنے تربیت دہندہ کے ساتھ تصویر کھنچواتے ہوئے۔ تربیت کے بعد ناشتہ پیش کیا گیا ،اور ایکسٹرا ویگنزا کے رشکاء ک و t�e PPTA Lotکے سی ای او ،آصف سعد نے اسناد پیش کیں۔
