Black Howler Monkeys come from the New World (South America). They inhabit the countries of Bolivia, southern Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina. They mostly live in the rainforest but sometimes venture into the mangrove swamps and secondary forests of South America. These monkeys are strict vegetarians. Their diet is mostly made up of leaves, fruit and any other vegetation. Howler Monkeys live in groups with group size depending on the amount of food that is around. Usually groups contain a few adult males and females and their offspring. Howler Monkeys have the loudest call of any of the primates. They have a special organ in their throats that helps them amplify the sound. A calling Howler sounds a bit like a very loud cough. They use their calls to communicate with each other.
