Common Name: Green Imperial Pigeon Scientific Name: Ducula aenea

LEAST CONCERN Green Imperial Pigeon Distribution: Southern Asia & Indonesia Habitat: Forests Length: 45 cm Weight: 400 g approx. Diet: Herbivore

The Imperial Green Pigeon is a large pigeon. These birds have a grey head and belly, with green wings and maroon under their tails. They have orange eyes and pink legs. They inhabit the forests of southern Asia and Indonesia. These birds live and forage in the trees, forming small groups. They do not live in large flocks like other pigeons. This pigeon is a herbivore eating a variety of plant material. They build a nest of sticks and lay one white egg. This pigeon has a deep reverberating call, this is often the first sign they are in the area as they spend so much time in the canopy. They fly like most pigeon species, with fast, direct flight, occasionally sharply flicking their wings.
