The Grey Peacock Pheasant is distinguished from others in its family by its overall grey/brown colouration. Their plumage is mottled with dark grey, white and buff. The males feathers have a metallic blue/green tinge on their wings and the back of their neck. Their cheeks and throat are white and their crest is grey, which they raise during courtship. Females are similar, but much smaller and their colouration is duller. Both sexes have ocelli (imitation eyes) on their feather.

The Grey Peacock Pheasant is found in the lowland and hill forests of mainland south east Asia.

They are omnivorous eating fruit, seeds, berries, invertebrates and small mammals. These birds are secretive, foraging quietly on the forest floor singly or in pairs. These pheasants breed from March to June. They build their nests in hollows, often at the base of bamboo clumps. The female usually lays two eggs.
