ome is where the heart is, and this adage stays true to Rany Moran’s credo in choosing her dream house. Rany is the mastermind behind the Batam TV station and has lived in Singapore for quite some time. But her residence in Jakarta, the one with which she fell in love at first sight, is exactly where her heart is.
Sitting on a 500-square-metre piece of land, Rany’s residence in Kebayoran Baru boasts a Middle-Eastern and European concept, with some Javanese influences here and there, as reflected in the custom-made carvings on the doors and wooden ornaments decorating most of the corners—all made by Jeparan furniture artisans. Meanwhile, the strong Middle-Eastern nuances are shown in the façade and stained glass windows. The property underwent a major renovation, yet it still retains the façade as one of its most attractive elements. Although the renovation was finished early this year, the homeowner says she and her family seldom stay in the beautiful residence. “We come home only during the Lebaran holiday, or we stay there when indonesia tatler

we’re on a business trip to Jakarta,” says Rany, who is currently busy running her fashion line, Palmorano; a family entertainment centre, Amazonia, in Singapore; and a family project hotel in Bali. Rany also now serves as CEO of Office Tower Jakarta. The residence’s first floor houses a neat, modern foyer and spacious living room, which is perfect for an intimate gathering or house party. Next to the living room is a 10-seater dining area that serves as a meeting room, with a sliding door that leads to the kitchen. A library, swimming pool, bathroom with an outdoor Jacuzzi, and green lush garden—all are also located on the same floor. Going to the second floor, visitors can take the option of using either a lift or a spiral staircase. The second floor contrasts with the first, as it has more private sections, including an entertainment room and four bedrooms, each equipped with a private bathroom, living room, and balcony. Before she decided to buy the house, Rany and her family lived in their apartment in the Dharmawangsa area. “One of the main reasons why I picked this house is because

of its strategic location. I’m used to living in the neighbourhood because we lived in the Dharmawangsa area before. Also, our office is located nearby, not to mention the fact that I’m currently working on the Wowzonia project in Kemang. That said, I guess it makes more sense for us to live in a neighbourhood in which we don’t need to spend much time sitting in traffic,” she explains. “In addition, I also like the layout of the house. It’s not too big, nor too small. I grew up in my parents’ house, which was so huge that the maintenance at one point became quite a hassle. That’s one thing I want to avoid.” Asked about the importance of Feng Shui when choosing or building a new house, Rany says: “I believe in it.” She consulted with a Feng Shui master when she bought her residence in Singapore. But it’s a different story with the house in Jakarta, as she hired only professionals to deal with the design concept, without involving any Feng Shui master in the process. “There’s also one thing you need to note, though, that is, although I got a professional architectural firm to take care of the blueprint, my father largely took part in conseptualising the design, with his great artsy ideas mainly shaping the house’s interior style,” Rany concludes.
