Dental implants are an ideal tooth replacement solution as they are virtually identical to natural teeth in strength, function and appearance. Everyone deserves a beautiful smile and with advances in implant dentistry, there is no need to settle for anything less. Although revolutionary in restorative dentistry, dental implants are amazing in their simplicity and have a very high, long-term success rate. Â They are virtually identical to natural teeth in strength, function and appearance which means they can blend seamlessly with your remaining natural teeth. https://thedentalpractice.com.au/dental-implants/[20/08/2018 9:06:19 AM]

Our hygienists work collaboratively with the dentists to provide you with exceptional care and valuable oral health advice. The combination of a thorough at-home care plan and regular active maintenance appointments will ensure your smile stays healthy for life. Gums perform an important role in protecting the underlying fibres and bone that hold teeth in place. Additionally, there is considerable evidence showing links between your general health and the health of your gums. Research shows connections between gum disease and heart disease, vascular disease and diabetes and it has been proven that people with gum disease are significantly more susceptible to other health issues. If you have noticed any of the following symptoms, you should see one of the hygienists at The Dental Practice to discuss a personal care plan: Bleeding when teeth are brushed or flossed (healthy gums do not bleed) Gum tenderness Red and/or swollen gums Bad breath and/or bad taste in your mouth One or more teeth becoming loose or “wobbly” Teeth appearing longer because gums are receding Gums are itchy or sore Spaces appearing between teeth

Veneers Veneers are finely crafted shells of porcelain bonded on the front surface of your teeth. They are an ideal way of closing gaps, improving the appearance of slightly crooked teeth and masking chips. Veneers offer a conservative cosmetic dental approach that can create a fantastic smile. Further information in regards to Veneers can be found Here.
Crowns Combining great strength and function with a natural appearance is what makes dental crowns an excellent restorative solution. Crowns are also the final restoration for dental implants and create a natural finish to your new smile. We also offer zirconia crowns at The Dental Practice. Zirconia is the strongest ceramic material available and  offers a superb final aesthetic look. Zirconia is ideal for people who are sensitive to metal and prefer metal free restorations, as it is virtually identical to natural tooth structure. To find out more about Crowns click Here.
Dental Implants The ideal solution to replace one or more missing teeth are dental implants. Made from medical grade titanium, an implant replicates a missing tooth root as it bonds with your jawbone to become a solid foundation to which a crown, bridge and full or partial denture may be secured. A dental implant appears and functions just like a natural tooth, enhancing your smile to its full potential. Every member of The Dental Practice team is committed to helping you achieve a beautiful, natural looking smile, whilst maintaining exceptional ongoing oral health. https://thedentalpractice.com.au/our-treatments/cosmetic-dentistry/[20/08/2018 9:09:17 AM]

What is a Crown?
would love to hear from you.
A crown, which is sometimes referred to as a cap, is a gold or porcelain restoration that is designed to completely encase a single tooth. Crowns provide strength and support to a tooth that has become weak. This can be caused by decay, loss of a large filling, if you

Placing a crown enables our team to restore the natural function of your tooth and appearance of your smile. While a crown is often used for rehabilitative treatment, they

are becoming increasingly popular in cosmetic dental procedures to help achieve a new straight smile. As a commitment to excellence in all facets of your care, we insist on using only the highest quality materials to create your restorations, ensuring their strength, longevity and your continued oral health and appearance.
When Crowns are necessary Crowns are needed when a tooth has a significant amount of structural damage and a normal filling would not be adequate. This damage can be caused by decay, trauma or wear. Some examples include: Heavily filled teeth that have broken or that are likely to break in the near future. Teeth that are heavily decayed and there is insufficient tooth structure to support a normal filling. https://thedentalpractice.com.au/Crowns/[20/08/2018 9:09:27 AM]

Teeth that show symptoms of micro cracking. Teeth with old amalgam fillings often crack around the filling causing pain when chewing. If left, these teeth can eventually break in half. Teeth that have had root canal therapy. Teeth where damage has affected the appearance. (This is not confined only to front teeth as many people show back teeth when smiling) Where teeth are missing completely, dental implants can be placed. The implants function as artificial tooth roots and once healed have crowns placed on them. In some people, teeth can wear down to the point where chewing becomes difficult. In these cases crowns can be used to build the teeth back to their original shape. This restores both appearance and function.
How are crowns placed? The procedure can vary depending on the situation but in most cases the tooth is reduced in size by about 0.6mm. A mould is then taken of the upper and lower teeth and sent to our laboratory where the crown is made. With the help of our technician a record of the colour of your adjacent teeth is taken so the crown can be matched to your teeth. A temporary crown is placed which you will wear until the final crown is made. At this time the temporary crown is removed the final crown fitted and adjusted to fit your bite exactly. It is then cemented with a special adhesive. When we recommend a crown we always consider your individual needs to ensure the procedure is as pleasant as possible. Any concerns that you have will be addressed before we begin. https://thedentalpractice.com.au/Crowns/[20/08/2018 9:09:27 AM]
Crowns, Dental Crowns, Dental Crowns Sydney
The main advantages Crowns are the strongest possible solution for damaged teeth and if done well should function for many years. They are made to match the colour and shape of your natural teeth.
Are all crowns the same? Definitely not! Broadly speaking, crowns can be classified into 3 main types: Full metal– These are placed on teeth that cannot be seen and where the utmost strength is required. They can be made from different materials but we choose either cast gold alloy or milled titanium. Porcelain bonded to metal– This is the most commonly used crown. They are excellent for back teeth but are not used as often on front teeth. Non Metal– Over 10 years ago in conjunction with our laboratory, we were among the first to place all ceramic crowns. These crowns have a vastly superior appearance to conventional crowns. All ceramic crowns are more biocompatible meaning that the body accepts them more naturally. The ideal choice of crown will be discussed with you before or at the preparation visit. A WORD OF WARNING… Many dentists who place cheaper crowns use porcelain bonded to cast non precious metal and often have them made overseas to save cost. We will never use these types of crowns, as they are inferior in every way.

Before treatment commences, The Dental Practice team will ensure your mouth is in good oral health, as this will enable the dentist to get an accurate fit for the veneer at the gum line. Meticulous preparation by your dentist prior to placing your veneers ensures a long lasting result. Each tooth receiving a veneer will be lightly prepared to remove a very minor amount of its outer layer so it appears the same size as your natural teeth when the veneers are placed. Once prepared, a mould of your teeth is taken, and used as a template. From this, a skilled technician in our dental laboratory will then create your veneers. During the time it takes our technician to craft your new smile, we may place temporary veneers so you can retain a natural appearance. At the appointment where we place the finished product, if temporary veneers were placed, they are removed and your teeth cleaned before the final veneers are bonded. This will ensure that when your veneers are secured with a formulated dental adhesive, the strongest bond possible is achieved. When your veneers are placed over the teeth, they are adjusted for comfort and fit against your gum-line. They are examined for their colour match prior to being permanently bonded, creating your new beautiful smile.
After care Although veneers are crafted from high-grade porcelain, your gums and supporting teeth to which your veneers are secured still need to be kept healthy. Dental veneers should be treated with the same care as your natural teeth and therefore maintaining a thorough a home oral care routine is very important. Your regular care appointments with The Dental Practice hygiene team will also assist in keeping your new smile looking bright and healthy for many years.

Inlays and onlays are made in a dental laboratory from tooth coloured materials such as porcelain or other resin based materials however, sometimes gold is recommended due to its strength.
Why would I need an inlay or onlay? Inlays and onlays are an ideal solution to restore your tooth as close as possible to its original strength and appearance. There are many reasons why inlays and onlays will be recommended to you by the team. Most commonly, because you have one or more of the following problems: Large cavities or decay A tooth with cracks in it Large amalgam fillings which are failing Teeth that require strength due to heavy biting force https://thedentalpractice.com.au/fillings[20/08/2018 9:09:50 AM]

Fillings for Teeth, Dental Inlays & Onlays
What is the difference between inlays, onlays and other white fillings? Inlays and onlays are different to resin fillings done while you are sitting in the chair as they bond to the tooth and are custom made in a laboratory. The materials used to make inlays and onlays are stronger than other white filling materials. Another difference when comparing inlays and onlays to other fillings is the amount of tooth structure which needs to be removed during preparation. As inlays and onlays are bonded to the tooth there is no need to cut away excessive amounts of tooth. Many patients are now choosing to have their amalgam fillings replaced with these tooth coloured options. Inlays and onlays are the ideal solution for replacing old fillings as they will strengthen your teeth and enhance the look of your smile.
After Care Caring or your inlay or onlay is just as important as for your natural teeth. Although the restorations are made from the highest quality materials, your natural teeth and surrounding gums can still develop plaque and tartar build-up which could lead to gum disease. A thorough at home oral care routine and attending active maintenance appointments with The Dental Practice team of hygienists who will keep your teeth and gums healthy and add to the long-term success of your inlay and onlay.

An infected tooth does not always cause pain, so you may be unaware of a problem. However, as the infection develops, the severity of pain will increase. Some symptoms to indicate an infection include: A tooth with severe sensitivity when you bite Sensitivity to hot and cold that lasts for more than several seconds Swelling of your face or gum around the infected tooth A tooth with deep decay A fractured tooth A broken or missing filling An accident that has damaged the pulp even if the tooth itself does not appear damaged

A tooth that has turned grey or black in colour
What does the procedure involve? Following a thorough examination, which will include detailed x-rays, we will explain the procedure in depth and answer any questions you may have. Root canal is done in three stages: Stage 1: all canals are located and negotiated to the tip of the tooth root. Stage 2: all canals are shaped to receive a root filling Stage 3: a root filling is placed to fill the inside of the tooth
How many visits does it take? On average, root canal treatment will take one to three visits. Every effort is taken to ensure that treatment is successful and this involves placing an antibiotic dressing inside the tooth between visits.
What’s next? While root canal treatment deals with the treatment and prevention of pain and infection, the tooth still remains weak and prone to breaking. As a small amount of tooth structure is often left, we usually recommend a crown to be placed on the tooth in the future to prevent fractures and possible loss of the tooth.
After care for your treated tooth An effective oral hygiene routine of brushing twice a day and flossing once a day are essential. With regular active maintenance appointments with our hygienists every six months this will keep your teeth and gums healthy and help avoid the need for future treatment. https://thedentalpractice.com.au/root-canal/[20/08/2018 9:10:01 AM]

Crowded or crooked teeth Crowded teeth look unappealing and are more difficult to clean. This can occur due to the difference between tooth size and jaw size. Spaces between teeth Large spaces between teeth look unattractive and can interfere with speech. This may be due to a difference in tooth size compared to jaw size or by tongue thrusting as a child. Missing teeth Apart from aesthetic concerns, missing teeth have an impact on your long-term oral health as teeth on either side can drift into the space creating further problems. Orthodontic treatment can be used to solve this, often in conjunction with other permanent tooth replacement options such as dental implants.

Protruding teeth Protruding teeth are more prone to accidental damage and are usually the result of the upper and lower jaws being out of alignment. Protruding teeth can wear unevenly and over-erupt, causing gum damage and speech difficulties. Bite malalignments and chewing difficulties This includes cross bite, open bite and under or over bite. In a normal mouth, the upper teeth should fit together with the lower teeth closing together on the outside like a lid on a box. Any variation from this can cause long term problems with eating, speech, uneven tooth wear , over eruption and jaw pain. Impacted teeth A tooth is impacted if it fails to completely erupt from the gum. This can lead to gum problems, decay and damage to other teeth. Orthodontic treatment can be useful to create space and aid the tooth in erupting. Speech difficulty Some speech problems detected in children can be corrected at an early age through orthodontic treatment. Grinding or clenching of teeth Grinding or clenching your teeth can lead to other health problems including headaches, head, neck and even shoulder pain. Orthodontic treatment may help to prevent this from occurring. Painful or clicking jaws Apart from being sore and sometimes embarrassing, painful or clicking jaws can cause https://thedentalpractice.com.au/orthodontics/[20/08/2018 9:10:12 AM]

long term problems including headaches, head, neck pain or earaches. Orthodontic treatment may help ease these symptoms. Thumb sucking Thumb-sucking can lead to long term problems with teeth and bite alignment. Appliances can be used to help children break this habit.
Treatment The most important aspect of orthodontic treatment is the planning and consultation stage. Following your initial examination, your dentist will request a series of special x-rays, photographs and plaster models to be made of your teeth. These records will be used to determine the treatment options available for you. During the consultation appointment, the treatment options and costs will be discussed with you prior to your treatment commencing. There is a wide variety of treatment strategies used for orthodontics depending on your age and /or condition. Treatment may consist of removable plates or fixed appliances (eg. braces) or a combination of both lasting anywhere from 18 – 36 months. The treatment will vary from case to case and will depend on the severity of the original problem, type of treatment required and the co-operation of the patient.
Treatment for younger patients Orthodontic treatment on younger patients is called orthopaedics. Whilst similar treatment solutions are offered, early intervention is often preferable as children’s bones are still developing, therefore making teeth easier to move into the correct position. Assessment and diagnosis at around the age of 7 or 8 is ideal as it may be possible to prevent serious problems from occurring as well as reduce treatment time.
Treatment for adults Standard orthodontic treatment is commonly used for adults, however, another popular https://thedentalpractice.com.au/orthodontics/[20/08/2018 9:10:12 AM]

treatment alternative is Invisalign. This is a series of custom-made clear aligners, similar to a sport mouthguard (Only much finer) that places pressure on the teeth moving them into position. The aligners are removable so you can enjoy all your favourite foods and clean your mouth normally. Replaced approximately every two weeks, Invisalign is virtually invisible, so no one can notice you are wearing them. Although clear aligners are very popular, they are not suitable for every situation. At The Dental Practice, ceramic fixed braces are an alternative to metal braces and being tooth coloured, they blend with your teeth making them less noticeable. Cfast is another way to straighten teeth in as little as six months that is also discreet and reliable. It is often recommended for adults that want to straighten their teeth but don’t want to have metal braces distracting from their appearance. These clear braces are used to cover the part of your smile referred to as the ‘social six’ which are the six most visible teeth when you smile. These are straightened with a tooth coloured wire and clear brackets that comfortably straighten your teeth. However, Cfast does not work towards correcting your bite alignment and therefore, is only a cosmetic procedure. Traditional orthodontics usually takes a lot longer as you’re trying to improve the position of your jaw as well as the teeth; some people do not need this, which means Cfast might be the right option for them. In some adult cases, because facial bones are no longer growing, some malocclusions cannot be corrected with braces alone. Orthodontic treatment combined with jaw surgery, dental implants or other dental treatments may be required to achieve the desired results.
Oral health during treatment It is never more important to have good oral hygiene than when undergoing orthodontic treatment. Regular cleaning with a soft brush, fluoride toothpaste and floss is essential. At the beginning of your orthodontic treatment, you will be given special instructions on how to effectively clean your teeth, gums and braces which will help keep your treatment time on course and may even help reduce it. https://thedentalpractice.com.au/orthodontics/[20/08/2018 9:10:12 AM]

equal to a vacuum cleaner at a three-metre distance! In addition to disrupting sleeping patterns, loud snoring may also indicate the more concerning condition of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).
What happens when you sleep? As you drift off to sleep the muscles responsible for holding your airway open begin to

relax, allowing the soft tissue at the back of the throat and your tongue to collapse and obstruct the air flow. This causes an insufficient amount of air to enter the body. As a response to this, your brain sends a message to the rest of your body causing you to
partially wake and gasp for air.
Phone Once your breathing resumes you fall back to sleep. Most of the time you won’t ever remember waking up however if this happens continuously throughout the night you may feel fatigued in the morning even after a full nights sleep. In severe cases people can wake up to several hundred times a night with non-breathing lasting anywhere from 10 seconds up to 1 minute!
The Solution Many patients of The Dental Practice have had great success using the SomnoMed MAS™ to treat snoring and OSA. By moving the lower jaw forward slightly the airway is enlarged and held open. The SomnoMed MAS™ looks a little like a double sports mouthguard and is worn during sleep. It is custom-made to fit over your teeth comfortably. If you wake feeling un-rested or your partner’s snoring is keeping you up at night, call and schedule an assessment appointment with one of The Dental Practice team so you can have something you have not had for some time, a peaceful night’s sleep.

At The Dental Practice in Burwood, we use a combination of whitening treatments including in-office and take-home whitening trays to ensure that the best possible results are achieved for our patients in the most convenient way for them. Generally, patients will find an improvement of 0.5 – 2 shades immediately, which gradually improves over the next 3 weeks. Individual results vary from patient to patient and will depend on your initial tooth colour, type of stain, oral hygiene habits and diet. Most people are candidates for teeth whitening, however, there are a few restrictions so you will need to have a consultation with the dentist before you can proceed. Teeth whitening is a safe procedure and does not affect the structure of the tooth or the enamel. It has been used in dentistry for many years. The procedure does not affect existing restorations and these will not change colour with the bleach so the dentist may https://thedentalpractice.com.au/teeth-whitening/[20/08/2018 9:11:56 AM]

recommend changing them to achieve the best results.
How does in-chair teeth whitening work? In-chair teeth whitening generally involves the application of a whitening gel which may or may not be activated by the application of a special light. Generally this procedure takes up to an hour and it will not require a serious of appointments as the results are generally achieved within the one teeth whitening session.
How does take-home teeth whitening work? Take-home teeth whitening requires a set of custom made trays to fit your teeth. You will then apply a small amount of whitening gel to each tooth area, so that each tooth has an even application of whitening gel. You will then wear this tray on both your top and bottom teeth for a number of hours or overnight. Your dentist will be able to prescribe the correct length of time to do this treatment. Results will take longer than they would with in-chair whitening as you will require multiple applications using your trays to achieve the same results.
How long does teeth whitening last? Typically, teeth whitening may last 12 -24 months. However with regular use of the home whitening kit, results can last for much longer. Other factors such as smoking, poor oral hygiene and diet can affect the longevity of the results.
Is teeth whitening safe? Teeth whitening performed or recommended by your dentist is safe and has been used in dentistry for many years with no serious adverse effects ever being reported. Teeth whitening does not soften the enamel or tooth structure nor does it affect the quality of existing restorations. Your dentist will do everything they can to maintain and improve the health of your smile, https://thedentalpractice.com.au/teeth-whitening/[20/08/2018 9:11:56 AM]

problems. Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the ball and socket joint that connects your jawbone to your skull. It’s one of the most flexible and frequently used joints in your body, enabling you to move your jaw freely so you can speak, chew, yawn and laugh.
Some factors that can contribute to the development of TMD include:

Missing teeth cause adjacent and opposing teeth to move out of alignment Repetitive strain on the jaw muscles caused through stress or physical activity Clenching and grinding of teeth (Bruxism) A fracture or dislocation of the jaw caused by an accident or sport injury Degenerative bone disorders. Eg. osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis
Send message TMD can evolve over a long period, and so corrective treatment may need to be ongoing.
Some symptoms of TMD include: Head, neck or facial pain Pain when chewing Chronic headache similar to a migraine https://thedentalpractice.com.au/tmd-treatment/[20/08/2018 9:12:07 AM]
TMD Treatment, Bite Correction
Shoulder or back pain Grinding or clenching of teeth (bruxism) Ear pain with no sign of an infection Limited jaw movement Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) Clicking or popping jaw joints Pain behind the eyes Unrestful sleep Dizziness General lack of energy
How do you treat TMD? Neuromuscular dentistry looks at the relationship between the teeth, surrounding muscles and the jaw joints. When these three factors are not ‘working together’ this is when you experience the associated pain. It is possible to correct these joint, muscle and teeth issues by having a custom splint made by The Dental Practice team. These splints which look like a mouthguard fit over your teeth. They can provide relief for much of the symptoms caused by TMD. Alternatively TMD may be treated by simply adjusting the bite of your opposing upper and lower jaws.

How To Choose A Dentist For Your Dental Implant Procedure
While finding the financial resources to undergo a dental implant procedure can be quite difficult, it’s important not to shop based solely on cost. Seeking out the cheaper alternative, or travelling overseas for treatment will often result in the need for further extensive and expensive repair, which will likely cost you more in the long run.
Consider technology and quality of material There is a growing trend for dental practices to seek out cheap prosthetic components (usually from overseas) to complete dental implant procedures. Ideally, the material should be sourced and constructed here in Australia avoiding cheap shortcuts. Technology is also a key consideration in selecting a dentist for your dental implant procedure. Modern, cutting-edge technology can remove human error, reduce time and costs, and increase the longevity of a dental implant procedure.
The Inner West Dental Implant Centre The Inner West Dental Implant Centre is dedicated to the provision of high-quality dental implant procedures. They have successfully completed more than 4000 dental implant procedures over the past 20 years. “There are a lot of practices offering dental implants today, however, many of them have limited experience. Our practice has been doing dental implants for over 20 years. We were one of the first general practices to be offering dental implants in Australia.” — Dr Glenn Willey

Can I Get A Dental Implant If I'm A Smoker?
General Dental Inner West Dentist Latest News and Information Orthodontics Porcelain Veneers Sleep Apnoea Teeth Veneers Numerous studies have pointed to a higher likelihood of dental implants failing in patients who are smokers. Here at The Inner West Dental Implant Centre, we want you to know that whatever you do, we will respect your choice and support you. Many of our patients

Why does smoking affect the success rate of a dental implant?
View Latest Posts By now it’s a commonly accepted fact that smoking has numerous health concerns attached to it. When it comes to your oral health, smoking can have a massive impact on

your body’s ability to heal problems in your mouth and throat. This is due to smoking How To Choose A Dentist For Your https://thedentalpractice.com.au/dental-implants/dental-implants-for-smokers/[20/08/2018 9:15:10 AM]

reducing the blood flow to the area, and causing blockages to the salivary glands. This results in an increase in disease-causing bacteria staying in the mouth, rather than being flushed away. In the long-term, this can cause an increase in the likelihood of smokers developing mouth and throat cancers. The success of a dental implant is very much dependent on your body’s ability to heal and fuse your jaw to the implant; the process known as osseointegration. As smoking affects the body’s ability to heal the mouth, you can then see that this also has some serious implications on the success rate of dental implants for smokers. Further to this, a slower healing rater can promote infections, which can lead to an early implant loss, often in the first three weeks.
So you’re saying that means I can’t get an implant? While smoking does definitely increase the likelihood of your implant failing, it doesn’t mean that the treatment is completely off the table. There are a few things you can do to bolster the success rate. 1: Stop smoking completely. We understand that this is a very difficult process, and not something you can necessarily just achieve overnight. However, when you think about it, quitting smoking altogether has so many health benefits beyond your ability to get a dental implant, that it really should be something you seriously consider. While your history of smoking will still impact on the dental implant process, quitting will greatly amplify your chances of success. 2: Stop smoking for the healing process. If you simply can’t fathom the idea of stopping smoking entirely, we’d strongly advise you to at least try to refrain from smoking from about two weeks prior to your implant surgery, and for the duration of the healing process. Again, your history of smoking will have an impact, but refraining during this period will certainly improve the chances of success. https://thedentalpractice.com.au/dental-implants/dental-implants-for-smokers/[20/08/2018 9:15:10 AM]

General Dental immune system is on high alert. Your mouth is not exempt from this. The mouth and gums have a lot of blood vessels under the surface and are likely to express inflammation and

redness when the body is under stress. Inflamed gums can cause weakening of the teeth which, in association with sugary foods and bacteria, can lead to cavities.

A common habit when patients are under stress is the clenching and grinding of teeth. This practice can cause excessive force to teeth wearing down protective enamel and

causing cracks or fractures. Weakened teeth are more susceptible to cavities. We can treat this condition with a splint or mouth guard worn at night. This stops further damage from occurring to teeth, maintaining their strength and health.

Why Do I Suddenly Have More Cavities?
Many cough lollies, mixtures and even natural remedies are high in sugar and acid which are detrimental to your oral health, particularly when you are sucking on them throughout the day. Increased bacteria in your mouth during sickness don’t help either. Bacteria react with sugars turning them into acids which erode healthy enamel leading to decay.
Ageing teeth Did you know your teeth change as you age? This can present in shifting and moving position as mouth muscles relax and bone structures change. This can cause overlapping and gaps where there were none before which can compromise your cleaning technique. Food can get caught more easily, and it may become harder to brush and floss. This will increase your risk of cavities as your teeth aren’t getting the clean they need. If you have noticed your teeth move over the years and would like to rectify this problem, The Dental Practice offer a range of discreet straightening options ideal for adult patients. Receding gums are another common condition that occurs to ageing teeth, especially for patients who have suffered gum disease in the past. As gums recede, they reveal more of the underlying tooth. This section of the tooth isn’t protected by enamel and is therefore more at risk of damage and decay. If you are experiencing a sudden influx of cavities and think you may have an underlying issue, contact The Dental Practice today! We offer comprehensive and compassionate dental care to all patients and would be happy to discuss your concerns with you. Posted in: General Dental

Invisalign is worn over the outside of the teeth and is extremely subtle. So when it comes time for those family photos around the Christmas tree you, won’t have to worry about embarrassing braces.
Comfortable Made of smooth, comfortable, BPA-free clear plastic, Invisalign aligners are comfortable to wear. Whereas traditional metal braces have wires that can poke and cut the sides of your mouth and tongue causing discomfort.
Removable Invisalign aligners are fully removable meaning you can eat, drink, brush and floss more naturally. Traditional braces which are not removable require a lot more effort when it comes to cleaning, as food can become trapped and cleaning in behind wires can be difficult. Traditional braces can also restrict the kinds of food you are able to eat, not the kind of thing you want to hear when lining up around the table for Christmas dinner. Although Invisalign aligners are completely removable, it is recommended that aligners are left in for 22 – 24 hours per day over the course of your treatment.

Latest News and Information Orthodontics‎ Porcelain Veneers

In order to receive dental implant treatment you need to be in an ideal state of dental health. The good news is that as The Inner West Dental Implant Centre is partnered with our general dental clinic The Dental Practice, we can help you get there. Treatment to get your dental health up to scratch is then added to the full cost of your dental implant

procedure. Why Do I Suddenly Have More Cavities?
Why does dental health matter? The dental implant procedure involves a process called osseointegration which involves the implant integrating with your existing jawbone. The success of this process is not guaranteed and your chances can decrease if you suffer from certain illnesses or if you smoke (which dehydrates you). Illnesses such as gum disease which stem from poor oral health can be treated at our sister clinic The Dental Practice so you have the best chance of dental implant success.
Find out more about our dental implant procedures: We use advanced technology to complete our dental implant procedures including Nobel Biocare and their range of technology. These tools make a big difference to how effectively we can design and place implants as your treatment plan is managed digitally and completed using Nobel Clinician for accurate placement. Where's The Money Really Going?
General Dental Inner West Dentist Latest News and Information In 2008 I wrote an article detailing the corporatisation of dentistry and what I considered at the time, to be the biggest threat to the dental health of Australian families. Six years on, I thought it might be worth revisiting this topic to see
Orthodontics Porcelain Veneers
where we are heading.
Sleep Apnoea
I would like to say from the outset that the ownership of The Dental Practice and The Inner

West Dental Implant Centre has remained in the hands of the dentists that treat you and in addition we have kept complete independence from the health insurance companies. Hell

will freeze over before this will change, although I genuinely fear a chill in the air.
The Dental Practice
In the early part of my career, a dentist could either own their own practice, work for

Where's The Money Really Going?
Along the way the dental insurance companies were keen to see an American style health system where treatment was completely controlled by them. For those who are not aware, if you go to the vast majority of dentists in the US, treatment plans need to be submitted and approved by the insurance companies before beginning treatment. If you do not want
Dental Implant Procedure Can I Get A Dental Implant If I’m A Smoker?
to do this, completely private dental fees are exorbitant. The bottom line is that there is them.
Why Do I Suddenly Have More Cavities?
The result is that dentistry in the US is a two tier system where the extremely wealthy get
Transform Your Smile With Porcelain Veneers
very little freedom of choice for the patient to decide the treatment they believe is best for
first class treatment and everybody else gets very basic care and still at a high price. To make matters worse, a number of entrepreneurs have decided there is money to be made out of dentistry and there have been two or three groups buying private practices, making them effectively part of a chain. Curiously this has been done by stealth in some cases, in that these practices do not advertise that they are no longer privately owned. Many patients in Australia think the owner of the business is treating them when in fact a large company employs the dentist. One such company is Dental Corporation, this in turn has been bought by Bupa, one of the world’s largest health insurers!
So how does corporate interference affect you, the patient? If you talk to anybody in the car repair industry they will tell you that insurance companies have a strong hold over what happens when a car gets damaged. It’s all about the profitability of the insurance company and quality comes last. There is no doubt that this is happening in dentistry and there has been a steep decline in standards as result. For the remaining private dentists it is a daily battle to compete with the large companies. This has led to many offering cheaper treatment by cutting costs. For the patient there is one upside, the prices of dentistry have come down, but I question whether the decline in treatment standards will lead to more cost in the long run. https://thedentalpractice.com.au/latest-news-and-information/wheres-the-money-really-going/[20/08/2018 9:16:58 AM]
Where's The Money Really Going?
If you are reading this there is a good chance that I am “preaching to the converted however, it is perfectly understandable that many people have to consider the cost of dental treatment very carefully. So in evaluating how to spend your hard earned dollar, it is worth considering the following: 1
The cost of dental treatment in Sydney has increased less than CPI in my 30 years as a dentist.
2
The cost of health insurance has increased by much more than CPI during my 30 years as a dentist.
3
Health insurance rebates have increased marginally in the same period. For example most insurance companies were paying back around $500.00 for a crown in 1985 and the best you can get now is around $800.00.
4
If you are being treated by a large company and you have reason to complain about quality, you will not be dealing with the dentist that did the treatment.
5
Insurance companies need to take more in fees than they pay out to remain profitable. For dentistry this means you will pay in more than you get back, even at their own clinics.
6
There are certainly good dentists that work for insurance companies and dental chains but I believe that there must be an effect on quality that comes with the lessened individual responsibility for the dentist doing the treatment.
If a large company is treating you, you are providing income for shareholders and others who have little or no interest in your well-being if it means reducing profit. Posted in: Latest News and Information

remaining teeth and this in turn will cause them to fail. This damage does not stop at the teeth, the jaw relies on an even load so both sides of the jaw can work together to chew. If one side needs to work harder it could result in temporomandibular joint problems, this https://thedentalpractice.com.au/all-on-4-implants/bone-grafting/[20/08/2018 9:17:09 AM]

state. In the past, certain circumstances made it difficult to provide dental implant solutions. Bone grafting was very complex and required multiple operations and time to heal. There were other options like bridges but in most situations, this means cutting down a healthy

tooth for the bridge to be supported. Patients were then left with the option of dentures. Dentures do replace missing teeth and assist with chewing but they are also a breeding ground for bacteria. The mouth is full of bacteria, which is why brushing and flossing are required twice a day along with regular check-ups by your Dentist. Teeth are made to resist the bacteria and use saliva to fight it to a certain extent, however, dentures are acrylic; a plastic which cannot do this and cannot be cleaned as well. Therefore they add to the build-up and bacteria which affects the surrounding teeth. Partial dentures were designed as a first step to eventually getting a full denture. Unfortunately, implants do have their disadvantages, the most important being not enough bone. Bone is a vital element for a successful implant. If there is not enough bone, the patient can either not have the implant, settle for dentures or undertake extensive surgery to have bone grafted from their hip. Advances allow us to provide patients with an array of alternative options to hip grafting. Some can be as simple as using a bone substitute out of a bottle which the majority of our patients undergo. This is a minimally invasive procedure that can be done in-house under just a local anaesthetic, or if preferred, with the use of sedation therapy also.

A more recent option which was designed to completely avoid bone grafting is called AllOn-4. This procedure was developed in partnership with Dr Paulo Malo and Nobel Biocare, the first implant company established. This innovative concept allows for a bridge of teeth to be fixed to 4 Nobel Biocare implants immediately and without any grafting. There will still be those situations that are more complex and will need more bone to allow for this. There is now a protein called Infuse BMP-2. This protein once injected stimulates bone growth. At The Inner West Dental Implant Centre, we work closely with our consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr Khaled Zoud to make this new procedure a success. We have helped change our patients’ lives and contributed to the improvement of our advancing technologies. To hear more about these options, please do not hesitate to call and have a talk with our friendly staff. Posted in: All-On-4

system used to improve your smile. Invisalign can treat alignment problems such as crowding or excess spacing of the teeth as well as more complex cases such as overbites, underbites and even crossbites.
First Name Invisalign uses a series of clear, plastic removable appliances (‘aligners’) that gently move teeth to their desired final positions. Invisalign significantly reduces hygienic and aesthetic limitations associated with braces. This is because you can remove your aligners to clean

Invisalign works much like traditional braces. The constant pressure from your aligners will gradually align your teeth without the need for metal brackets and wires. Approximately every two weeks you will swap to a new set of aligners – gradually getting straighter and straighter teeth. In order to get started your dentist will take a digital scan of your teeth. These scans will be sent to Invisalign headquarters where Invisalign uses cutting-edge three dimensional computer graphics as part of their patented software which manufactures individual Invisalign aligners for each patient. Patients wear each set of aligners for approximately two weeks before moving on to the next set in the series.
How long does Invisalign take? Treatment duration varies from patient to patient, however, is typically between 6-14 months. The length of time Invisalign takes will also depend on how dedicated you are to https://thedentalpractice.com.au/invisalign/[20/08/2018 9:17:43 AM]

treatment. Compliance is the second most important factor in the success of your Invisalign treatment – other than receiving the Invisalign aligners in the first place.
Should I choose Invisalign or braces? Many adults choose Invisalign because it is removable and clear. This makes it a great choice if you don’t want the appearance of braces impacting your appearance at work or in your social life. Invisalign can be removed for those important meetings and dates so that you don’t have to feel self-conscious about your smile while receiving treatment.
Does Invisalign work for all problems? No Invisalign doesn’t work for everything – in some cases braces are your better or only choice. If you need a tooth pulled down then it is likely that you will need traditional braces as Invisalign doesn’t have the wires that make pulling down a tooth possible. Some people choose to combine traditional orthodontics and Invisalign when braces are needed in the initial phase of treatment. Your dentist will provide an official recommendation based on your individual needs during a consultation at The Dental Practice in Burwood.
How much does Invisalign cost? Invisalign will cost roughly the same as traditional braces. Your dentist will be able to give you a price recommendation based on your initial assessment at your first appointment.

What is Cfast?
would love to hear from you.
Cfast is a way to straighten the teeth in as little as six months that is also discreet and reliable. It is often recommended for adults that want to straighten their teeth but don’t want to have metal braces distracting from their appearance. These clear braces are used to cover the part of your smile referred to as the ‘social six’ which are the six most visible teeth when you smile. These are straightened with a tooth coloured wire and clear brackets that comfortably straighten your teeth.

a Cfast retainer including a fitted retainer or a removable retainer. People often neglect wearing their removable retainers, so we recommend having a fitted retainer which is secured to the back of the teeth where it is unnoticeable. It’s imperative that you wear your retainer if you want straighter teeth for life.
The benefits of straighter teeth 99.7% of people think a smile is an important social asset – and as dentists we completely agree. Not only is a straight smile generally healthier, they also look appealing and may help you to appear more professional. According to studies, 74% of people think that an unattractive smile can adversely affect a person’s chance for employment and success. While this statistic may seem extreme, when you consider that your smile is one of the first things that people will notice, this does not come as a surprise.

appearance. If you want to find out more about Cfast please don’t hesitate to contact The Dental Practice in Burwood. We are a dental practice with an advanced range of treatments and state-of-the-art equipment – including Cfast.
When is Cfast suitable? Cfast is a cosmetic procedure and if your main goal is to improve the straightness of your teeth then it may be suitable for you. Upon your first meeting with the team at The Dental Practice we will take a look at your smile and determine if any specialist orthodontic treatment is required.
How is Cfast faster than traditional orthodontics? Cfast does not work towards correcting your bite alignment and therefore is only a cosmetic procedure. Traditional orthodontics usually takes a lot longer as you’re trying to improve the position of the jaw as well as the teeth, though some people do not need this which means Cfast might be right for them.
