Aims of the Workshop : -Use of grasshopper’s Plugins -Data tracking -Data visualisation
Based on the “Smart City” concept, the workshop will be focused on the analysis, understanding and proposal of this new approach through the next three steps: Presentation of three case studies regarding the concept of Smart City in the Urban Public Space developed in the Master of Advanced Architecture of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), specifically in three different streets of Barcelona: Pere IV, Meridiana and Paseo Grácia. Approach to the first visualization tools and based on the mapping concept (data collection, interpretation, representation and new analysis strategies). Tools application over different urban contexts in order to understanding the relation between Paris and the smart city concept. The workshop results will be published in the collective blog and web page, with the goal of amplifying the range of influence of this developing concept and bring to public view the work of all the people involved in this knowledge incubator.
SMART CITY CONCEPTS According to a forecast by the United Nations (UN), 70% of the world population will live in urban courts in 2050. In addition, the UN warns that the increasing population in cities can become a serious urbatn issue, unless citizens reach a balance between the social and environmental aspects and among themselves. The concept of “Smart City” (associated to the concept of “Smart Growth”), is proposed in a social context where infrastructure and population of urban areas continue to grow, in many cases, dispro- portionately. Therefore a “Smart City” is the one that uses technological advances and tools to support and improve the quality of life of its citizens. As a result of this phenomenon of transformation, it is imperative to recognize and understand the new schemes and systems of configuration, growth and development of cities, related to the Informa- tion and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Smart cities make instrumented, interconnected and intelligent systems. This new urban concept is generated by the lifestyle of today’s citizens, who increasingly use digital devices to maintain them informed of local and global happenings. According to studies, almost 90% of the citizens had at least one account on social sites in 2012. This kind of urban behaviors affects the role of the architect as a urban designer, demanding knowledge, understanding and application of new analysis and design tools, in order to consider several variables that have an impact in the design parameters of any project. For instance, the analysis and design of a city project should consider: Data-driven analysis of economic activity, human behavior, mobility patterns, resouce consumption, etc. in order to inform an evidence-based process of designing new cities. Parametric urban design tools to schematically define mobility nodes, streets, building massing, and location of resources to create nested compact urban cells (walkable neighborhoods).
Urban energy, mobility, water, food, and waste simulator for new, post-oil cities. Typology of streetscapes, pathways, mobility nodes, and responsive technology for cities. It is important to understand the city as an interconnected urban ecosystem, where changes or a variation in one component affects directly or indirectly the overall system.

Seine. J’ai effectué une année de master à Queens University de Belfast, et j’ai travaillé en Tunisie où j’ai de la famille. Aujourd’hui je m’intéresse aux processus de fabrication, qu’il soient alimentés par des outils paramétriques, conventionnels ou bien traditionnels. J’ai aussi une fascination pour les environnements interactifs et les logiciels open source.

Superbelleville
Superbelleville coworking is a a collaborative space for architects, parametric designers, visual artists and slashers. The term “slasher” was coined to describre the rising trend of the “one person/multiple careers” and it refers to the ‘slash’ in the job title of someone who is, for example, a designer/manager/web editor. At superbelleville we encourage design transdisciplinarity and we believe that creation has no borders. Superbelleville is located in the heart of Belleville district, in Paris. It is a quiet and friendly place and it is designed on a human scale (it is the smallest coworking space in Paris). Superbelleville coworking has been cofounded by Concetta Sangrigoli (oikos.pro), Pierre Cattan (smallbang.fr) and Francesco Cingolani (immaginoteca.pro) and it is driven by a community effort of about 20 amazing people.

REaction workshop was an amazing experience in which we experimented how to track urban information, how to make it visible and understandable and, finally, how we could use this information to improve the design of our environements. As designers, I think the most important thing today is to have a general vision of what technology can do. I think it’s more important to know which technology we can use to acheive something, more than control every detail of the technology itself. That’s why I said that “KNOWING WHAT YOU CAN DO IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN DOING IT.” With REaction workshop we wanted to create a learning environnement to help urban and architectural designers to take into account information exchanges in our cities, in order create better experiences in our built environnement. «DATA AND INFORMATION ARE THE OIL OF THE FUTURE». Today, we can say that almost everything is an information exchange. If you talk, you are exchanging information. If you are here, in a physical space, your body is exchanging heat with the environnement. And if you walk with an smartphone in your pocket, you are producing (end exchanging) information about your localisation, your speed and your direction.
