Welcome

Babies brighten our world, don't they? And for those of us who are knitters, a baby is a wonderful excuse to get our needles out and make something adorable.

Girls will be as pretty as a picture in this pinafore and beret set, page 21

This issue, we've got some lovely knits you'll want to make. There's a pretty dress with matching beret (page 21), a terrifc jumper decorated with a cute dog's face (page 6), plus coats, hats, booties, blankets, nursery decor and a delightful monkey toy (page 29) for babies to cuddle. Special this issue is a feature about knitting toys for a premature baby charity (page 60) and our own collection of knits for tiny early arrivals (page 41).

Dog jumper

Wof, wof! Cast on Jo Allport’s adorable intarsia jumper, adorned with a cute dog’s face – it’s perfect for a playful child who loves pets

T

his delightful jumper is worked in stocking stitch and has striped sleeves. The dog’s face is knitted in the intarsia method, though his ears are knitted separately and stitched on afterwards. There’s a

nicely tactile contrast between the bouclé yarn of the dog contrasted with the smooth yarn of the jumper. Kids will love to tickle the little dog’s fur! We’ve used strong colours but this jumper will work just as well in brighter shades.

hat child won’t want to play with this cute monkey toy? He’s made in separate pieces, which are then joined together, stuffng as you go. Knitted in stocking stitch, with a bit of garter stitch at

the edges of the ears, the stripy body and head are one piece and the arms, legs, ears, muzzle and nose are sewn on to it. Remember to stitch all parts on securely to prevent any part being pulled off during rough and tumble play.
