Leading the Charge in Cybersecurity Investment RICHARD SEEWALD
In a digital age where cyber threats loom large, Richard Seewald and Evolution Equity Partners stand at the forefront of cybersecurity investment, dedicated to protecting what matters most. With a rich history of success stories and a strategic vision for the future, Seewald's leadership and Evolution's robust investment playbook have cemented their place as leaders in the cybersecurity domain.
By Hillary Latos
The Evolution Equity Playbook
Seewald’s journey began over 25 years ago, with the founding of a cybersecurity company that would eventually go public on the New York Stock Exchange. This experience laid the foundation for Evolution Equity Partners, which has since raised four funds and invested in over 60 cybersecurity companies. Their latest fund, a $1.1 billion investment, is the largest dedicated cybersecurity fund globally.
"Evolution Equity Partners is a growth and early growth stage investor entirely focused on the cybersecurity space and adjacent markets," Seewald explains. "We’ve developed a playbook specific to the cybersecurity space that guides our investments in key categories that every company addresses, from marketing and
sales to technology and M&A strategy.”
This playbook, honed over decades, provides Evolution’s portfolio companies with a strategic advantage. By sitting on the boards of directors and integrating companies into their centers of excellence, Evolution ensures that each investment is supported by a robust framework designed to drive growth and resilience.
"Our playbook is a collection of insights, experiences, and lessons learned from building a cybersecurity company from the ground up. It’s about understanding the nuances of the market and the unique challenges that cybersecurity companies face," Seewald elaborates. "This allows us to help companies navigate those challenges and achieve success.”
Investment Strategy and Success Stories
Seewald’s investment strategy is multi-faceted, focusing on great teams, solid technology within different stages, and large markets. This approach has led to numerous success stories. For instance, Carbon Black, a market leader in next-generation endpoint security, was taken public on the New York Stock Exchange. Security Scorecard, another portfolio company, has grown into a global leader in cybersecurity ratings, continuously monitoring over twelve million companies across 64 countries
"We’ve invested in companies like Carbon Black, Arctic Wolf, and Security Scorecard. These are well-known names in cybersecurity, as well as younger companies that start off early and grow into sizable businesses," Seewald notes. "We write tickets up to $100 million per company, providing diversified exposure to a hard-to-access category.”
One of Evolution’s notable investments is in Arctic Wolf, a leader in managed detection and response services for midsize companies. "Arctic Wolf went from zero to multi-billion in value, addressing a critical gap in the market for highquality cybersecurity solutions tailored to midsize enterprises," Seewald says. "This demonstrates the potential for substantial growth in underserved market segments."
Addressing Modern Cybersecurity Challenges
Seewald is acutely aware of the evolving nature of cybersecurity threats and the need for continuous innovation. "The biggest area of growth for our companies is automation in the cybersecurity space," he says. "With a global shortage of cybersecurity professionals, automating capabilities and driving further ROI in the cybersecurity infrastructure stack is crucial.”
Machine learning and AI play significant roles in Evolution’s investment strategy. Seewald emphasizes the importance of these technologies in enhancing detection, response, and cost savings for organizations. "We’re investing in companies that use machine learning and AI to bring efficiencies to security operations centers, automate threat detection, and improve cybersecurity postures.”
The Future of Cybersecurity
Looking ahead, Seewald identifies several key areas of opportunity. Midsize companies, historically underserved by cybersecurity solutions, represent a significant growth market. Additionally, the human factors of cybersecurity—addressing the behaviors that lead to security breaches—are another critical focus. "Human behavior is probably the most difficult part of the cybersecurity attack surface to tackle," Seewald states. "Machine learning and AI can enhance our ability to address these human factors.”
The threat landscape is continuously evolving, with adversaries increasingly using automation and AI to launch sophisticated attacks. Seewald underscores the importance of resilience in cybersecurity strategies. "The CrowdStrike issue highlighted the impact of a misconfigured update on software resilience. It points to the need for a diversified cybersecurity stack to reduce single points of failure.”
Leadership and Vision
Leadership plays a pivotal role in Evolution’s success. Seewald and his team bring unparalleled experience in the cybersecurity industry, with backgrounds as investors, operators, and technologists. This deep expertise allows them to partner effectively with entrepreneurs and drive the growth of their portfolio companies.
"One of the most important attributes of a leader is being coachable and open to new learning opportunities," Seewald says. "The ability to articulate values and align them with day-to-day operations is crucial for the success of a company experiencing rapid growth and technological development.”
Seewald’s mission with Evolution Equity Partners is clear: to invest in and grow companies that defend and protect the critical infrastructure of our digital world. This mission is more important than ever as the number of connected devices and the complexity of cyber threats continue to grow.
"Our team has had a front row seat in the development of the cybersecurity industry over the past 30 years. First as investors and executives at AVG Technologies, and now as leaders at Evolution Equity
Partners, we’ve contributed significantly to the industry's growth and maturity," Seewald remarks. "We’re committed to leveraging our experience to support the next generation of cybersecurity leaders.”
Evolution Equity’s Global Reach
Evolution Equity Partners is distinguished not only by its strategic investment approach but also by its global reach. With teams in New York City, Palo Alto, London, Zurich, and significant investments in Israel, the firm operates as a truly international cybersecurity investment platform.
"The mission to invest in world-class cybersecurity companies is an international endeavor," Seewald asserts. "From the very start, we were a global investor, very aware that the demand for cybersecurity technology is handled differently in global markets.”
This global perspective allows Evolution to identify and capitalize on unique opportunities in various regions. For instance, the firm’s investments in Israeli cybersecurity startups leverage the country’s renowned tech ecosystem and innovative approaches to cybersecurity challenges.
The Role of AI and Machine Learning
AI and machine learning are not just buzzwords for Seewald; they are critical components of the cybersecurity landscape. "AI and machine learning have been part of the cybersecurity technical stack for over a decade," he notes. "These technologies enable us to better detect and respond to threats, automate processes, and ultimately enhance the overall security posture of organizations.”
Seewald highlights the transformative potential of generative AI and large language models. "The onset of large language
models presents new opportunities to use AI technology to detect threats more effectively, respond to incidents faster, and automate previously manual tasks," he explains. "This is particularly important given the global shortage of cybersecurity professionals.”
Human Factors in Cybersecurity
While technology plays a crucial role, Seewald emphasizes that human factors remain a significant challenge. "Human behavior is the most difficult part of the cybersecurity attack surface to tackle," he says. "90% of cybersecurity incidents are caused by human error, whether it's falling for phishing attacks, downloading ransomware, or misconfiguring systems.”
To address this, Evolution Equity Partners invests in companies that focus on improving human factors in cybersecurity. These companies develop solutions
that help organizations educate their employees, reduce human error, and enhance overall security awareness.
Resilience and the Cybersecurity Ecosystem
Resilience is a recurring theme in Seewald's discussion of cybersecurity. The ability to withstand and quickly recover from cyber incidents is crucial for modern organizations. "The CrowdStrike issue is a perfect example of the importance of resilience," Seewald points out. "It wasn’t a cybersecurity failure per se, but a misconfigured update that highlighted the need for robust and resilient security systems.”
Seewald advocates for a diversified cybersecurity stack to minimize single points of failure. "Relying on a single vendor for your entire cybersecurity stack can create systemic risks. Diversification reduces these
risks and enhances overall resilience.”
Richard Seewald and Evolution Equity Partners are not just investors; they are pioneers in the cybersecurity industry. Through their strategic investments and robust playbook, they have built a portfolio of companies that are leaders in protecting our digital world. As cybersecurity threats evolve, Seewald’s vision and leadership ensure that Evolution Equity Partners remain at the cutting edge, ready to defend and protect what matters most.
The future of cybersecurity is undoubtedly challenging, with evolving threats and increasing complexities. However, with leaders like Richard Seewald and firms like Evolution Equity Partners, the industry is well-equipped to tackle these challenges head-on. Their commitment to innovation, resilience, and global collaboration sets a benchmark for excellence in cybersecurity investment, promising a safer digital world for all.
GERRY POIRIER
Unleashing the Economic Power of Women with AngeLink, The World’s First Social Fintech Built by Women
With heated political rhetoric in today’s current climate, the divide among individuals is greater than ever. Gerry Poirier, who has dedicated her career to the financial sector, understands the power of creating unity through a trusted and safe online community called AngeLink. Developed to address socio-economic barriers and bring women together on a crowdfunding digital platform, AngeLink is a social impact company that truly delivers on its promise of breaking barriers.
“Early on, when I was working on Wall Street, I was often the only woman in the room. But when I worked overseas in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo, I was sometimes the only woman in the building. I experienced firsthand the economic disparity women face around the world and saw a significant problem that I wanted to solve. Women were being underserved across the entire economic spectrum, so I vowed one day to start a company to help level the playing field for women,” said Poirier.
Poirier started AngeLink with the idea of a “Female-Centric GoFundMe” to create a radically new ecosystem of financial inclusion and to elevate women to their highest potential. The company’s innovative crowdfunding platform enables a large number of individuals to come together and support those in need with small amounts of money shared through collective unity.
“I founded AngeLink to address pervasive gender inequality and economic disparity that continues to deny women a voice on a global level,” said Poirier.
By Amy Poliakoff
Her idea was simple: to develop the world’s first female-powered crowdfunding community to connect, empower, and amplify female voices and improve the lives of billions.
“Every day, women struggle. No one should have to choose between feeding their children or paying rent. Women live a shared experience, being disadvantaged in so many aspects of their lives. Change is long overdue. The world faces a reckoning from centuries of gender bias and economic inequality in nearly every country,” said Poirier.
Women control over 85 percent of household spending on a global basis. However, they face significant economic inequality and make 20 percent less than men for doing the same work. According to a recent Forbes article, 78 percent of the U.S. population now live paycheck to paycheck.
"What people don’t realize is that the vast majority of this number are women, leaving them with less savings for unexpected expenses such as medical bills or emergencies. What’s worse is when women
try to start a small business to earn more money and boost their income, 98 percent of them will be turned away from venture capital firms, leaving women disillusioned and economically disadvantaged,” said Poirier.
With AngeLink, Poirier is on a mission to unleash the economic power of women on a global scale, giving them a voice. “With a focus on female-forward missions, we’re helping to fill the gap for women who represent the global majority of underserved communities in every country,” said Poirier.
Having launched in June 2022, raising $8 million and gaining over 80,000 users thus far, AngeLink is growing rapidly. The company recently won the Best New Marketplace Bold Award by Crowdsourcing Week as well as the coveted Mindshare Award. AngeLink surpasses competitors with its innovative safe, secure, and trusted AI-driven platform, user-friendly free tools, and empathetic, caring female-centric community. The company announced the first AI-driven fundraising technology to help users share their stories. AngeLink’s unique, first-of-
its-kind AI Wizard™ helps users create a more compelling narrative and catchy title to boost their fundraising success.
AngeLink is a social impact company where investors and philanthropists can see with total transparency where their money is going. With a 4.7 Trustpilot score compared to a score of 1.5 for the industry leader, AngeLink provides a safe haven for fundraisers and donors. With training videos and innovative tools to ensure transparency, AngeLink is the key to storytelling for fundraising campaigns. The platform is deep linked to all the major social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, Pinterest, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter) for users to easily share their fundraisers with friends, family, and community—all with the click of a button.
AngeLink’s impactful social impact platform can help to raise money for millions for cancer survivors seeking funds for medical
co-pays and procedures often denied by insurance carriers. Noteworthy AngeLink campaigns raised $200,000 for Turkish earthquake victims and over $150,000 for hurricane victims in Florida. Other AngeLink fundraisers helped to pay for infertility treatments, school lunch debt, veterinary bills, educational expenses, after-school sports programs, and startup business expenses.
Since its inception, AngeLink’s journey has been about female empowerment, and Poirier credits her female-powered team with AngeLink’s incredible success thus far. Poirier has assembled top-tier talent, and over 90% of the AngeLink team are women. AngeLink’s CTO has a PhD in artificial intelligence, the company’s CFO comes from the largest payment company in the world, and the Head of Customer Operations led customer support at a major bank. All are women.
Poirier took the transactional approach to helping women through a peer-to-peer
donation platform a step further when she founded the AngeLink Community Foundation (ACF) 501(c)(3). Poirier started ACF to advance economic equality and gender parity by building the world’s largest community to support women. At the forefront of impact philanthropy, ACF promotes scalable funding models to create the world’s largest donor community.
“ACF helps to address the root cause of economic disparity that continues to deny women a voice on a global level. We fuel creative initiatives through grants to charitable partners to create a better future and affect real and positive change,” said Poirier.
ACF is focused on three E’s: Education, Emergencies, and Entrepreneurship to amplify the power of AngeLink’s crowdfunding platform and provide matching funds and in-kind support to women.
Change is long overdue. The world faces a reckoning from centuries of gender bias and economic inequality in nearly every country.
Poirier is a member of the Women’s Business Owners Association, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women, and The Association of Women’s Business Centers. With AngeLink, Poirier is helping to curate solutions to support female entrepreneurs with management education, mentoring, networking, and access to capital. Not just in her company’s philosophy, mission, and team, but in her personal organizations and commitments, Poirier is dedicated to helping break the ceiling for the disparity in gender inequality.
“In nearly every country on earth, women are disadvantaged from centuries of economic inequality and gender bias, and change is long overdue,” said Poirier. The time for women has come, and they are rising up to secure a better future for themselves and their families.
“AngeLink’s female empowerment crowdfunding platform serves as a haven for everyday heroes and the angels among us. Through our platform, we’re not only empowering women, we’re bringing innovation to social impact for the things that matter most. We’re giving women the power to change the world and shining a light for all of humanity,” said Poirier.
Intersection of FINTECH, AI, LOGISTICS & E-COMMERCE Entrepreneurial
Spotlight on Shay Bichler
By Cristina Carbo
Shay Bichler is a leading entrepreneur in Israel’s tech sector with significant expertise in e commerce, logistics and fintech. He was enticed to move to the US by other tech leaders. Shay grew up in a close-knit family with 11 siblings, an upbringing that ingrained in him the importance of community and collaboration. These values have been integral to his entrepreneurial journey. At the young age of 19, he founded his first business, marketing consumer products and food across Europe. This venture laid the foundation for his later successes in fintech and e-commerce. Shay observes that fintech has revolutionized business operations by democratizing access to financial services. This transformation has enabled businesses of all sizes to compete on a global scale. Fintech offers secure, efficient, and cost-effective solutions for managing transactions, securing financing, and streamlining operations. Shay emphasizes the particular benefit fintech provides to e-commerce, where seamless payment solutions are crucial for success.
How has fintech revolutionized the way we conduct business?
Fintech has democratized access to financial services, enabling businesses of all sizes to compete globally. It offers secure, efficient, and cost-effective ways to manage transactions, secure financing, and streamline operations. This has been particularly beneficial for e-commerce, where seamless payment solutions are crucial for success. How has Fintech transformed the retail landscape in e-commerce?
E-commerce has broken down geographical barriers, allowing businesses to reach customers worldwide. Today's consumers demand end-to-end solutions, regardless of where they are trading from. They expect their products to be delivered quickly and affordably, with tracking options. This is where the power of collaboration comes in.
Can you elaborate on the importance of collaboration in the shipping and logistics industry?
The future of shipping and logistics lies in international and local collaborations between various suppliers. The era where suppliers believed they could achieve everything on their own is over. By leveraging each other's
strengths and addressing weaknesses, businesses can create efficient, cost-effective solutions that benefit everyone involved. In companies like Shippiz, we embrace collaboration as a core principle. It might feel risky to partner with competitors, but these collaborations have proven invaluable.
Tell us about Shippiz and how it is revolutionizing logistics.
Shippiz is a standout solution in our collaborative approach. By saving about 20% on shipment costs, Shippiz significantly increases the sales and transaction closures for e-commerce merchants across all platforms. This cost efficiency is a gamechanger, allowing merchants to offer competitive pricing while maintaining healthy profit margins. It also enhances customer satisfaction by ensuring timely and cost-effective deliveries.
Can you tell us more about the price comparison engine you developed that's gaining significant attention
The price comparison engine is a revolutionary tool that offers a transparent and competitive way to compare shipping costs across different providers. By empowering merchants with the ability to choose the most cost-effective shipping options, this engine plays a crucial role in optimizing their logistics and increasing their overall efficiency. It's been a game-changer for many e-commerce businesses. Shopping cart abandonment due to high shipping costs is one of the biggest problems for e- commerce merchants so by addressing that issue we can help businesses increase sales and profits. What do you think the future holds for the software world, especially for e-commerce merchants?
I believe that in ten years, a small number of players will control 70% of the software and management market for e-commerce merchants. Today, there are over 26 million sellers and e-commerce merchants worldwide. Any software providing local solutions will need to find partnerships with other countries to offer comprehensive and
attractive coverage. Currently, advanced e-commerce merchants in the US use multiple platforms for inventory management, listing, smart selling, orders, invoices, and delivery management. In the future, we'll see more mergers and collaborations, streamlining the software ecosystem and making it more efficient for merchants.
How do you see globalization and AI impacting fintech and e-commerce?
Globalization continues to shape our world, and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in fintech and e-commerce cannot be overstated. AI has the potential to bring about unprecedented efficiency and innovation, creating platforms that cover areas and services around the globe. Within the next decade, it will become clear who the dominant players are. Those who master the art of collaboration and leverage AI will be leading the charge.

THE RELATIONSHIP ARCHITECT Demetri Argyropoulos and the Future of Strategic Investment
One brisk afternoon in Silicon Valley, Demetri Argyropoulos sat across from a potential partner. The deal on the table was promising, but something felt off. Trusting his instincts, Demetri decided to dig deeper. What he discovered changed the trajectory of his career and solidified his approach to business relationships. While he calls Greece home, he often finds himself on a plane to various other corners of the world, including his birthplace of California. This global approach is key to his strategy for building enduring personal relationships. Nothing beats the connection formed from a face-to-face interaction.
By Angela Gorman
In an ever-evolving business landscape, where digital interactions often overshadow personal connections, Demetri Argyropoulos stands as a testament to the enduring power of trust, relationships, and strategic team building. As the founder of Avant Global, a firm that has generated over $20 billion in value, Argyropoulos has built his career on the principles of emotional intelligence, clear communication, and shared values.
From Vision to Reality
Demetri Argyropoulos founded Avant Global in 1999 with a vision that transcended traditional business models. "My journey began with early experiences working alongside individuals with a relentless drive for capitalism and volunteering for President Bill Clinton," he recalls. These formative experiences underscored the immense value of relationships and the transformative power of open networks. Over two decades, Avant Global has not only generated substantial value but has also become a catalyst in founding or co-founding 18 companies and investing in over 100 ventures.
Argyropoulos's approach to building and maintaining successful relationships has evolved, but the core principles remain unchanged. "Trust and shared values have always been at the heart of how I create true lasting relationships," he explains. Through the years, he has honed his ability to understand and align with the goals and values of others, making emotional intelligence and clear communication integral to his strategy.
The Irreplaceable Value of a Handshake
In an age dominated by digital interactions, Argyropoulos emphasizes the irreplaceable value of face-to-face connections. "Personal interactions allow for more effective communication, deeper relationships, and the ability to read non-verbal cues, which are essential for building trust," he asserts. He shares a pivotal moment in his career where a personal connection significantly impacted a business decision. A promising deal fell apart due to the disingenuousness of a potential partner, teaching him the importance of thorough due diligence and the value of building trust over time.
Crafting High-Performance Teams
When it comes to assembling teams for new ventures, Argyropoulos prioritizes shared values, complementary skills, and mutual accountability. "It's crucial that team members are motivated by the same goals and can work together harmoniously," he states. This philosophy is underpinned by the sustainability of their skillsets, mental stability, and most importantly, integrity. As businesses grow, so do their needs.
Argyropoulos emphasizes the importance of continuously assessing and realigning the team's capabilities to meet evolving demands. This involves sincere evaluations, providing opportunities for professional development, and sometimes bringing in new talent to fill specific gaps or drive new initiatives.
Investing in Tomorrow
Argyropoulos's investment interests are diverse, with a keen focus on artificial intelligence, sustainable technology, health and wellness, agricultural technologies and financial technologies like blockchain. "These sectors have significant potential for growth and innovation," he explains. His approach to identifying and evaluating new investment opportunities is rooted in building a global network of high-caliber relationships and leveraging this network to gain diverse perspectives and insights.
One recent project that stands out to him is his advisory role with SandboxAQ, a company at the forefront of quantum computing and AI. "SandboxAQ's innovative approach to solving complex problems through quantum
The continuous pursuit of learning and the desire to build meaningful relationships keep me inspired. Seeing the positive outcomes of our work and the value we create for others is incredibly rewarding.
Lessons from the Bookshelf
Building and maintaining a strong network in today's business landscape comes with its challenges. "Maintaining the depth and quality of relationships as our network grows is crucial," Argyropoulos notes. Navigating the rapidly changing business environment requires adaptability and continuous learning. By proactively identifying emerging trends and leveraging his network for diverse insights, Argyropoulos stays ahead of the curve. For aspiring entrepreneurs and investors, he offers invaluable advice: "Focus on building genuine relationships based on trust and shared value. Be proactive in reaching out and nurturing connections, and always look for ways to provide value before seeking it."
Argyropoulos believes the key to sustaining long-term success lies in building a strong foundation of trust, maintaining a clear vision, and being adaptable. "Surround yourself with a capable and aligned team," he advises. Balancing multiple roles requires effective time management, delegation, and prioritizing tasks that align with overall strategic goals.
Looking ahead, Argyropoulos is excited about continuing to expand Avant Global's network, investing in innovative sectors, and creating deep value for partners and co-investors. "We aim to stay at the forefront of emerging trends and technologies, and maintain our commitment to building sustainable, impactful businesses," he says.
technology aligns with our mission of investing in transformative and high-impact ventures," he shares. The project's potential to revolutionize industries such as healthcare, cybersecurity, and financial services exemplifies Avant Global's commitment to supporting cutting-edge technologies.
Throughout his career, Argyropoulos has drawn inspiration from various books and mentors. "Books like 'Think and Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill, 'Essentialism' by Greg McKeown, 'The Changing World Order' and 'Principles' by Ray Dalio, 'Super Bosses' by Sydney Finklestein, and 'The Happiness Advantage' by Shawn Achor, and "Discover Your WHO" by John Stix have been influential in shaping my approach," he notes. ELIXR The App Bringing the Innovative Hybrid Approach to Deep and Meaningful Love
By Hollie McKay
Exiting the COVID 19 pandemic, society viewed communication and connection in a new way. The working world migrated to a work from home digital space where interpersonal connection developed into a new digital realm of reality. Generation Z, those born between 1997 and 2012 and aged around 18 to 29, have found themselves the first social generation to have been raised with the internet and portable digital technology from a young age. As digital natives, Gen Z has been thrown into the digital sphere and have found themselves longing for a desire for a deeper connection and real love in the online world of dating. Sarrah Rose, a female CEO and intimacy coach has found a way to give Generation Z the right coaching and connection through her innovative dating app called Elixr.
“Eixr is an AI powered coaching app where we prioritize mental health to improve self-love, dating and relationships. I founded Elixr because I have been coaching for the past 11 years and I have two Generation Z children myself with struggles that can benefit from coaching. I am helping this target demographic with a new approach to dating and relationships. Gen Z is looking for love and genuine connection often lost in this digital age,” said Sarrah Rose.
On September 1, 2024 Elixr will launch to the public and can be found on the App store and Google. Focusing on the five different pillars: dating, relationships, sexuality, self-love and manifestation, the app uses workshops, 24/7 AI powered chats, one on one coaching and Elixr mixers to create true online reflection for better intimacy. Every person who signs up for an Elixr membership takes an assessment allowing them to find out which essence is the strongest within their being. The seven essences of the Elixr way are: instinctive, creative, powerful, heart-centered, truthful, mindful and visionary.
“When it comes to dating relationships and the relationship with oneself and self-love we usually have a lot of internal conflict that impacts us while dating. Through our one-on-one coaching we really support our members in self-love first and foremost to really develop that healthy foundation. Everything we do is designed to have a healthy dating experience,” said Rose.
With a current team of eight coaches and growing, Elixr provides a haven for those who seek betterment for a better connection. The additional AI chat, able to provide guidance at all times, has been fed thousands of transcripts to allow for direction to be given according to Sarrah Rose’s Elixr essences and pillars.
Eixr coaches have even created personal video workshops and lessons where deep topics like how to ask someone on a date, maintaining boundaries, how to navigate dating and social media, how to take the next step after one has gone on a date and what this means and what stage of the relationship are you in are explored. In addition, coaches provide video mixers where patrons of the app can interact in a genuine and authentic way while engaging through a guided experience.
With the ability to explore topics such as sexuality, self-love, dating and relationships members of Elixr have found themselves at home in a judgement free zone where open and effective self-exploration is conquered. Through structured practices, self-awareness is harnessed
and as a result better dating and healthier relationships are achieved.
Elixr, currently growing with the goal of gaining 100 million users and more, has a myriad of diverse investors that include those who have invested in the marketing, information technology, and financial ratio of the company. With memberships at an affordable price, the team behind Elixr aims to eventually make a tiered membership.
For Generation Z, Elixr takes the impersonal nature out of the traditional online swipe right and picture match dating by providing true interpersonal connections online. This innovative and hybrid app, Elixr is a forward-thinking avenue for finding real and authentic love.
“Members have been really excited about meeting each other in our events. We really focus on community night which are our Elixr mixers and our group workshops. We really provide not only selfdevelopment for better dating but a way for our singles to meet each other with less pressure. Gen Z really doesn’t like the swiping and the dating apps. We provide a brand new and different experience where members can grow, get to know themselves better and get to know each other in an organic way,” said Sarrah Rose, CEO of Elixr.
The Elixr team and coaches are putting together multiple ingredients to create the magic of love. As a love app helping people to date and build healthy relationships for a real connected love, Elixr is the new magical potion for meaningful connection.
Revolutionizing Agriculture for a Sustainable Future INSIGHTS FROM WATER GARDEN FARMS
By Hillary Latos
In an era marked by climate change, resource scarcity, and a rapidly growing population, the need for innovative agricultural solutions is paramount. Water Garden Farms (WGF) is at the forefront of this transformation, leveraging advanced Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) 2.0 technology to address these pressing challenges and ensure a sustainable future for food production and Dennis Levine has found a viable solution to address these environmental agricultural challenges facing our planet.
This is a critical time in human history. What are the biggest challenges you see going forward?
This century is turning up to be a critical one for humanity and our planet. Climate change is forcing us to address a host of issues: extreme weather events, resource scarcity, environmental degradation, population growth, supply chain disruptions, income disparity, geopolitical tensions, and ecoanxiety. These challenges are both global in scope and profoundly interconnected.
We’re on the brink of significant ecological shifts due to climate change and at a tipping point in our ability to feed the world. Arable land and freshwater supplies are dwindling, and global deforestation is threatening our remaining biodiversity. We urgently need effective and responsible solutions to address these major issues.
Here are the facts. We must increase global food production by 70% over the next 25 years to feed 9 billion people. Without sweeping solutions, this could equate to clearing out an area of trees as large as the entire Amazon rainforest, which provides 20% of our planet’s oxygen.
These problems are not cyclical, they are seismic. Global food prices, adjusted for inflation, have risen by more than 50% since 1999. Meanwhile, agriculture’s productivity growth globally has dropped by 35% in the last half century, while our soil has been depleted through industrial agriculture and the increasing use of chemical fertilizers that damage our downstream aquifers, drinking water, and ocean ecosystems.
The demand for accessible freshwater – which represents less than 1% of Earth’s water – is set to triple from current levels during this 25-year period. As a result, 2/3 of the planet will face freshwater shortages by 2050 and more than 3 billion people are expected to be trapped in uninhabitable zones in the second half of the century. Without immediate action, the geopolitical impact will be catastrophic, leading to billions of climate migrants seeking basic survival.
Even in our own backyard, the U.S. relies on California and Arizona to supply more than 90% of its fresh produce. The West Coast has been battered by an increasing number of droughts, fires, and floods. Water rights have been a major source of contention among states connected to the Colorado River, a vital water source that has been under unprecedented strain. This has led to huge pressures on our agriculture supply chain. We are now basically shipping water (in produce) from water-starved states to waterabundant states. The situation is worsening and leading to a matter of national security.
How can we ensure food security in a fastchanging world and how Water Garden Farms will help to solve these problems?
I found that the most effective strategy to implement sustainable solutions at scale is through controlled environment agriculture (CEA) in greenhouses. CEA is a proven, high-tech driven approach to indoor farming that optimizes resource use (water, energy, space, and nutrients) by controlling environmental conditions 24/7. This agri-facturing method involves continuous monitoring and adjustment of factors such as light, temperature, humidity, nutrient, and CO2 levels to enhance crop yields and quality, resource efficiency (water, energy), and food safety.
I have spent the last decade investigating, testing, and collaborating on these issues with the world’s leading experts in their respective fields, ranging from agriculture and biology to land and water management, AgTech, artificial intelligence, and greenhouse engineering.
WGF is transforming agriculture by introducing unprecedented crop production yields in the U.S. to grow, harvest, and distribute local organic produce every day of the year. By consolidating the numerous steps of our broken supply chain under one roof, we not only enhance food safety but also ensure that produce reaches the market at its
nutritional peak, mere hours after harvesting. This integrated approach also insulates us from the climate-related disruptions that frequently impact traditional open-field farms.
We are now ready to break ground on our new flagship 500,000 sq. ft. facility, an hour away from Washington, DC. This will be the most advanced fully automated CEA greenhouse in the world. Our carbon footprint is 85% lower than California open field farms and we draw less than 2% of the water for a 44x greater production yield per acre and no agricultural runoff. Our facility is 100% solar powered and uses very little energy (unlike vertical farms) as we rely on sunlight for crop production. We are bringing sustainable farming to the frontlines at a lower price point. We are looking at $75 million in revenue in this facility alone, with a 60% EBITDA margin.
Our long-term goal is to expand over the coming years, building more facilities across the U.S. and eventually globally to meet increasing demands for food and resource conservation. We are leading the way with solutions that can ensure food security and can drive capital flows in sustainable agriculture.

Back Again: RICHARD TAITE
Opens the First True Ultra Luxury Treatment Facility for UHNWI's
Substance dependency strikes indiscriminately, impacting individuals from every corner of society. However, the elite face unique pressures that often heighten their vulnerability to addiction. In these circles, where maintaining a certain image and upholding family legacies are paramount, the struggle with substance abuse can be particularly silent and profound. Carrara Treatment Wellness & Spa steps into this niche, offering a refuge for those needing specialized, discreet care. Combining luxury with a holistic, evidencebased approach, Carrara sets a new standard for addiction treatment, ensuring that even the most discerning clients receive the support and healing they deserve..
The Visionary Behind Carrara: Richard Taite
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Richard Taite is a celebrated entrepreneur and visionary leader in addiction treatment. Taite's journey began with the founding of Cliffside Malibu, a boutique luxury rehab that grew into the world's premiere addiction treatment facility under his stewardship. From his early years, Taite's life was marred by adversity. Growing up in a difficult family, he faced the challenge of protecting his brother Todd, who suffered from severe mental illness, from their physically abusive father.
Despite these hardships, Taite graduated from UCLA with a Political Science and Public Law degree, intending to become a lawyer. However, the demons from his past led him down a dark path, culminating in a severe crack cocaine addiction. His recovery journey began in earnest on March 3, 2003, and using seed money from his medical bill collection and consulting company, he purchased a property in Malibu, initially transforming it into a sober living facility for men.
By Hillary Latos
Taite's approach to addiction treatment was revolutionary. He integrated holistic, evidence-based treatment protocols with intense one-on-one psychotherapy, physical activity, and rejuvenation. This comprehensive, personalized approach, coupled with his philosophy that "the world would be a better place if everybody could make a living helping people," laid the foundation for his success.
In June 2018, Taite sold Cliffside Malibu, marking the end of a significant chapter in his life. However, his commitment to helping others did not wane. After a five-year hiatus due to a non-compete agreement, Taite returned with Carrara Treatment Wellness & Spa, a facility that he describes as "the first true ultra luxury center... ever."
The Unique Approach of Carrara
Carrara Treatment Wellness & Spa distinguishes itself by offering more than just sobriety. It caters to the nuanced needs of its clientele, understanding that the journey into addiction is personal and
often complicated by societal pressures. The treatments at Carrara are meticulously designed to address not only substance dependency but also the psychological and emotional catalysts behind it.
The center has three estates, two atop the world famous Bird’s streets in the Hollywood Hills, and one located in Malibu on Broad Beach Road, one of the most sought after strips of beach front, all of which provide an environment of unparalleled luxury and privacy. Each estate features six private rooms with en suite bathrooms, individually temperature-controlled settings and TV’s, a juice and smoothie bar, and amenities akin to those found in five-star hotels. Carrara's Malibu home offers private stairs directly to the beach, a sprawling sundeck with whitewater views, a hot tub overlooking the ocean, 2 spa treatment rooms, a fabulous gym, multiple lounging and dining areas, an outdoor kitchen, and firepit. And of course both have a world class spa designed by the renowned director of the Ojai Valley Inn, a top 100 spa in the nation. The Hollywood
Hills location boasts additional amenities such as 3 pools, 2 Jacuzzis, panoramic city views, a eucalyptus steam room, an infrared and regular sauna, and a movie theater.
Carrara's holistic approach encompasses physical health, mental well-being, and lifestyle adjustments. The center offers a range of holistic healing experiences, including meditation, aromatherapy, acupuncture, trauma-informed yoga, chiropractic care, sound baths, breathwork, and reiki. Medical care is comprehensive, with 24-hour nurses, medication management, pain management, psychologists, therapists, addiction specialists, and medical doctors available.
One of the standout features of Carrara is its Somatic Trauma Therapy, which helps clients process and release trauma from the body. This therapy is part of a broader treatment framework designed to meet the high expectations of Carrara's discerning clientele, ensuring that the path to recovery is as dignified as it is effective.
Richard Taite's philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that self-care is the foundation of self-esteem and self-love. He states, "I have yet to witness a person who loved himself while simultaneously killing himself with drugs and alcohol... It just doesn’t happen." This belief permeates every aspect of Carrara's treatment approach.
Taite's commitment to his clients extends beyond their initial treatment. Carrara offers ongoing support, recognizing the continuum of recovery. Post-treatment services such as continued therapy, case management, and individualized resources ensure that clients feel supported as they reintegrate into their evolved roles and routines.
In interviews, Taite often reflects on the importance of providing a supportive and loving environment for clients. He believes that shame is a significant barrier to recovery and works to create a space where clients feel
valued and understood. "Everybody comes into treatment with a certain element of shame," he says. "We just tell them, 'Hey, this is your turn. We’ll get you back on track.'" Richard Taite's insights into addiction treatment are profound and illuminating, reflecting his deep understanding of both the personal and societal dimensions of substance dependency and here he shares his perspective on the best approach to treating addiction problems before it's too late.
IW: Why is seeking treatment urgently important today?
Richard Taite: The dangers associated with modern substance use have never been higher, particularly due to the prevalence of fentanyl. With the fentanyl epidemic running rampant and killing 200 people per day, we’re out of time. The current drug landscape has rendered the old attitudes toward experimentation obsolete. The stakes are now higher than ever, and the window for casual experimentation has closed. This urgency underscores
Carrara's mission to provide immediate, effective intervention for those at risk.
IW: How does personalized care play a role at Carrara?
Richard Taite: My commitment to creating a personalized, luxurious treatment environment at Carrara is evident in my dedication to comfort and convenience. Carrara was literally built for me because I am the most spoiled person on the face of the earth. This focus on personalization ensures that each client's experience is tailored to their unique needs, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the treatment. By providing a familiar level of luxury and comfort, clients are more likely to engage fully with the treatment process.
IW: What can you tell us about identifying candidates for treatment?
Richard Taite: Understanding the varied motivations of individuals entering treatment is crucial for effective care. Only about
50% of the people coming to treatment are truly seeking help. The other 50% are here to get the heat off. Despite this, even those who are initially resistant can find success if they are provided with the right environment and support. Just recently a client who had been to roughly 25 rehabs without ever staying longer than 3 days completed 30 days at Carrara and continues to thrive afterwards, demonstrating the transformative power of our approach.
IW: What makes Carrara's holistic approach unique?
Richard Taite: Carrara's comprehensive wellness program is designed to foster selfcare, which I see as foundational to recovery. We have a spa where you can get wraps, scrubs, facials, foot detox, mani-pedis, reiki, massage, and an entire menu of services. This extensive array of treatments is not just about pampering; it's about instilling a sense of self-worth and care in clients. Self-care leads to self-esteem, which turns into selflove—a crucial component in overcoming
My vision for Carrara extends beyond the immediate treatment phase. The importance of ongoing support to ensure long-term success cannot be overstated.
addiction. This philosophy is integrated into every aspect of Carrara's treatment program, from the luxurious accommodations to the individualized therapy sessions.
All of Carrara’s doctors and therapists have over 10 thousand hours treatment experience, most have over 20 thousand hours experience. What makes us really special is that all 120 employees were hired by invitation only because it was critical that we find the finest practitioners in substance abuse treatment. We spend more time discussing as a clinical team which of our therapists fit best with each client than any center spends with clients alone. Thirty employees left Cliffside to be a part of Carrara when it opened.
IW: How does Carrara support clients after treatment?
Richard Taite: My vision for Carrara extends beyond the immediate treatment phase. The importance of ongoing support to ensure long-term success cannot be overstated. When you're here, you're part of our DNA. We offer ongoing support, and if you hit a rough patch, you just come back. No shame, no nothing. You're part of this thing now. This commitment to lifelong support helps clients maintain their sobriety and continue to grow and thrive after leaving the facility. Our comprehensive post-treatment services, including continued therapy and
case management, ensure that clients are not left to navigate their recovery alone. We can even send you home with a sober companion or sober coach to titrate you back to life so that all good habits learned at Carrara continue back at home.
IW: Why is a loving environment essential in addiction treatment?
Richard Taite: Being attuned to our clients’ needs, and meeting these needs before they even know they have a need is critical to our approach to addiction treatment. A supportive, compassionate environment is essential for recovery. I call it a love call. It's about creating a culture of love, empathy, and respect. We don't just treat people here; we care for them. We are emotionally invested in our clients' well-being. This philosophy is
reflected in the way Carrara staff interact with clients, providing a nurturing environment where clients feel safe and valued. By fostering genuine connections and offering unwavering support, Carrara helps clients rebuild their lives on a foundation of love and respect.
Carrara's Impact and Future
Carrara Treatment Wellness & Spa has quickly established itself as a leader in luxury addiction treatment. The center's commitment to providing the finest care, tailored precisely to the circumstances of each client, has set a new standard in the industry. With a focus on holistic healing and ongoing support, Carrara offers a transformative experience that honors the lives clients have crafted while fostering a journey towards balance and fulfillment.
Taite's philanthropic endeavors are also noteworthy, as he continues to provide treatment to wounded warriors and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds in his affordable centers that will be scaled to treat as many people as he can. Carrara however will never have more than 18 beds.
Carrara Treatment Wellness & Spa represents the pinnacle of luxury addiction treatment, offering a sanctuary where clients can heal in privacy and comfort. Under the visionary leadership of Richard Taite, Carrara is not just a treatment center but a place where lives are transformed, and hope is restored. Carrara is truly “One of One” and is the only choice for people who insist on the finest possible experience during a difficult time.

WAYNE THIEBAUD Summer Days
By Michael Klein
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
I imagine this sonnet posted on a wall in Thiebaud’s studio as he chooses and works on his various summer themes. Delicious ice cream cones, cupcakes, girls in bathing colorful swimsuits long stretches of the beach along the Pacific ocean.
This exhibition of paintings works on paper and prints is first since his death at the age101 in 2021. Regarded one of America’s finest painters his career spanned some 80 years a career that brought us views of his native California, his family and friends and the content of everyday life in America: highways, delis, bakeries and the modern skyscraper. But there was nothing ordinary in the manner in which he documented what he painted a master of both refined line and intense observed color.
Keep it simple he told his students and remember , “ Art is not delivered like morning paper; it has to be stolen from Mt. Olympus “ it must be imbued with greatness.
Like a student of sociology he noted and documented so many parts of the American life, character and subject. At first they were united under the label of Pop art but missing was the irony of the subjects. Thiebaud is ultimately a realist but the edge of his work is how he composes and then edits his subject keeping things brief and to the point.
Sandwiches; deli counters; cakes and cheese boards… banal when you write the words ….but remarkable when you see the finished painting or watercolor.Encyclopedic in scope there seems to be little that doesn’t merit observation and then a painting or prints or watercolor. An again this was the misinterpretation of these being imagined as representations of Pop art . Like a Dutch master Thiebaud planned the painting as being solemn representation of figures as well as objects. Nothing to distract us from the subject at hand. Two Cakes 1980 prime example , a pair of home made cakes the same but different flavor and color palette. Their symmetry outstanding a real treat for the eye. This is Thiebaud at his best a painterly geometry , forms reduced to their basic shape and then explored using many layers of paint replicating frosting.
Cheese Display 1969 again relies on reducing each cheese to a geometric shapes but here color is flat . This process or formula is used and reused as Thiebaud builds an encyclopedic overview of American life from tables settings to highway traffic and farm lands. And as commonplace his focus he manages find in the ordinary a way to keep the viewer amazed delighted and charmed by his visual musings. The magic of each work jumps off canvas or paper “I believe very much in changing, “explained Thiebaud in an interview, “ I paint people, places, and things, which gives me the option of painting anything. I would like to believe I could paint anything, any day, any time, any way in which I would like to do.” And in the end he fulfilled his own desire as demonstrated by this concise and extremely handsome exhibition. The exhibition is accompanied by an extremely well researched and designed catalogue, written by Steven Nash former Director of the Palm Springs Art Museum. It is a great addition to a Thiebaud library.
NICLAS CASTELLO Culminating Change through Meaningful and Innovative Art
Art can be defined as the tangible creation of the aesthetic. It is the selfexpression of one’s personal vision of creativity. It can be anything expressed in a medium. Art is important because it is the representation of life created at a given point in time. History dictates the field’s definition. What defines and creates art are two different things: history and social discourse. They shape an artist and define his or her work. What makes the arena known, or creates its celebrity is the collective agreement to promote the representation of social discourse as a conceptual idea in an art form.
What makes a great artist is his or her pivotal ability to define the future through his tangible representation of an idea that has never been done before. For example, with impressionism, Monet redefined the way we see reality by capturing the very effects of light and its effect on reality at a given point in time. This new perspective redirected the direction of the art world very much like how Picasso and Braque brought different views of subjects together in the same picture, resulting in paintings that appear fragmented or abstracted known as Cubism.
Today, we look for leading artists whose creative vision reflect a defining movement in the arts. Niclas Castello, is a forward-thinking visionary whose approach to art solidifies him as a truly innovative artist because he takes two traditional mediums, painting and sculpture, unifying them to create a fresh perspective known as his cube paintings.
By Amy Poliakoff
“I wanted to create something new that nobody had done before. There has been a fight in art for many many years. What is the better piece of art: painting or sculpture? In the past DaVinci said painting is the better work but always sculpture has been chosen as the better work of art. Now I have come out with my cube paintings combining both painting and sculpture,” said Castello.
In 2015, Castello began a focus on the creation of somethings new and innovative that had never been done before. With the creation of a painting, which he then frames, Castello then destroys his work. Breaking the canvas, the frame, and the very structure of the work, Castello then takes a two-dimensional piece of art and makes it a three-dimensional sculpture through his placement of the deconstructed canvas in a plexiglass cube. Through his conceptual work of art, the viewer must hunt for his neo-
expressionist figuration on the compressed canvas inside the plexiglass cube.
For Castello, the cube became his signature work and in 2022 he created what is known as the Castello Cube, a conceptual 410 pound 24-carat gold cube that transcends art to focus on a universal theme connecting all. The gold itself represents the golden rule for humanity.
“I created a piece of art for everyone on this planet. It is not for sale. My vision is that everyone has a chance to see this work of art one time. For me, every time I watch people seeing this work, I understand the intangible. It is out of this world,” said Castello.
The 12-million-dollar 19685x19685x19685 inch cube has traveled the world. Not to be seen on a pedestal, the cube has been placed on the ground on view in Central Park, Venice,
Zurich, and more collecting a global footprint. It’s use of the purest gold is a metaphor for not only the questions of how we treat humanity through the golden rule but on the uniting qualities of the commodity’s use in society today. The Castello Cube accomplishes what all great art intends to do- it makes us think. It makes us aware of value, strength, love, money, and life through its medium.
For Castello his passion for the unification of society is seen through all his art. From September 17th to November 19th 2023 Castello’s exhibition, “Born to be Alive” in conjunction with Osthaus museum, one of the oldest contemporary art museums
in the world, located in Hagen Germany explored the very crucial need to protect the environment for future generations.
“Art is very very important for our communities. Art is a weapon you can use to be able to do things. You can even talk about dangerous things and what happens in our world. Born to Be Alive was my museum show focusing on a message,” said Castello.
The show focused on the message that every living being, from the moment of its birth, has the right to be alive and has the right to life. The architectural design of the exhibit intended to make people reflect on nature’s
In the past DaVinci said painting is the better work but always sculpture has been chosen as the better work of art. Now I have come out with my cube paintings combining both painting and sculpture.
gift of life in keeping us alive and our necessity and obligation to care for nature. Castello took sick trees and put them in hospital beds with heartbeats and heavy breathing to show the sounds of ailing breath. There was a microphone where people could interact with the exhibit to hear the heavy breathing. He put trees on operation desks with lots of blood as if in the emergency room. He took sick tree stalks and put them in wheelchairs with a mirror in front of them with the question “Do I Look Good?”. In addition, he did 180 works on paper where the age rings of the trees were shown.
“I put humans on the same level as trees. When the human is sick in the hospital, he or she gets help. But for the tree, nobody cares. Now, everyone is realizing we have a problem. But nobody is doing anything about this problem. Art needs to speak up against climate change and I feel it is my responsibility as an artist to open a dialogue about nature’s exploitation. I hope my art inspires people to step in and start generating positive approaches, to advance the future generations in efforts of a better planet. It is time to take action,” said Castello.
Castello’s passion is palpable through his lifelong commitment to contemporary art. Born in 1978 in East Germany he grew up inspired and fascinated by graffiti artists. Having lived in Paris and then ultimately settling in NYC. Castello developed his style under the mentoring of Arleen Schloss while in Manhattan. Much like Andy Warhol, Castello’s figuration in his neo-expressionist deconstructed canvases pay homage to pop culture and comment on cultural contemporary society. Influenced by Jean Michel Basquiat along with his adoration for the use of bold color, Castello’s art is praised by galleries, auction houses, and collectors in the international art world. Most recently he was awarded the European Art Prize in 2022. Today, he currently lives in Germany but constantly travels. With a strong love for the arts and humanity, his footprint is pervasive among all countries in the world including the US.
Through the symbiosis of painting and sculpture to create the Castello Cube sculptures, Niclas singlehandedly redefines art genres through the unification of mediums. With an innovative and groundbreaking role in the contemporary art market, Castello has solidified himself as not only a forward-thinking creative but a passionate advocate and activist for climate change.
“I want to change the world with my art and my projects. To influence, to change people’s minds, to inspire as an artist, it really is the best thing you can do with your life,” said Castello.
KATHERINE PORTER Now
By Michael Klein
Porter’s last solo show in New York was in the spring of 2018 by invitation from Sean Scully a colleague snd friend who invites artists to use his public space 447 Space on 17th St. In the show some 25 works In these very intimate works a wide selection of colorful canvases to some very subtle works focused on monochrome one in oranges another in whites. All in all groups of color transforming these square window like canvases into individual units of contemplation and reflection . Icons of the abstract
Porter lived and worked in upstate New York; then a brief period in Maine and now Santa Fe NM. And thought the landscape and climate
has changed from east coast to southwest the woods the seacoast and now the desert she has remained attentive to her keen interest in the process of painting, both as a cerebral exercise and visual game She synthesizes elements of abstraction with a passion for color and the colorful.
In the past much content was drawn from the outside world, headlines, political turmoil, now an internal dialogue has emerged and the viewer is left to ponder the act and art of painting. There has been a significant shift of scale from the larger canvases of the 80s and 90s when she was showing with two pioneer New York art dealers David McKee and
Andre Emmerich now to a smaller seemingly portable format of recent years,Visit her country studios or an exhibition of these paintings and equally beautiful works on paper and you will discover French titles abound. An unapologetic Francophile Porter who have lived in various part of the world and also the nearby French enclave Montreal delights in her love of things French underscored by the titles of works such as Notre Dame and Versailles and works dedicated to Matisse and a moody abstract landscape titled After Bonnard. Drawn to the Fauves because of their inventive palette ; combinations of sharp distinctive color contrast but arranged so that harmoniously so that each element orchestrated its part in the overall composition.
Her very recognizable big canvases swept up in the real energy of a city and the politics of the time. Now evolved into a more quieter temperament. of say Richard Pousette Dart or Sam Francis more painting less talking.
Another notable work, Notre Dame. is in honor of the Paris cathedral whose roof caught fire in 2019, painted from memory it is a re minder how fragile the world is even its grand cathedrals Such fragility is at the core of Porters work, the fracture; abbreviated forms samples of color are there are in a moment can be reformed into an entirely new
arrangement neither better nor poorer just different .It i s this endless exploration of difference that haunts her imagination and bings her back each day to a new canvas.
Porters invented mode of abstraction draws from other painters of course but it is hybrid of geometric patterns an arrangements inserted into seas of painterly color and texture.
There is a playfulness in the works, games of juxtaposing geometric elements squares rectangles curves circles and spirals each different yet in sync with each other. Each draws us in to contemplate and experience another kind of action painting…the action here not brushstrokes nor the push and pull of Abstract Expressionist works but vibrant hues charged with the energy and complexity and ultimate balance akin let us say to Kandinsky.
Perhaps her real kin are among the post-war European artists compare her to Hans Hartung; Serge Poliakoff or even Nicholas de Stael. Color is all pleasure not didactic to illustrate a story or narrative Intuitive maps, if you will interspersed with geometric messages, notations and cryptic doodles. Theirs is a means toward mystery revealed to the viewer one picture at a time the same way Porter instructs us.

ME AND MICROSOFT
It has been 20 years since I joined Microsoft as its first in-house curator. My life shifted from the East Coast to the West Coast, from people and places I knew for ages to a new town, new people, and a very new job. The job was new for both me and the company. "We hired someone to do this?" Bill Gates queried at a budget meeting one day. Yes, and it was me.
By Michael Klein
June 1, 1999, was a red-letter day for me since it was my first day at Microsoft. My first day as the first in-house curator for this 24-year-old tech company. My appointment even made it into the Wall Street Journal! Windows 98, a smash hit, was changing the world, transforming how we communicated, changing the world of business and commerce in so many ways, and making many investors millionaires.
I was hired to work with the art committee made up of employees. With the growth and expansion of the company into other regions, the demands on the collection necessitated professionalizing the process of acquiring works of art. We needed to prepare a business plan and educational plan for the collection in 1999 and plans for expansion into the 21st century.
That summer, the focus was on the forthcoming conference center. There were numerous meetings to review floor plans and, as construction progressed, tours of the building. During one of those tours, I inquired about a large room at the top of the stairs to the second floor. “What will be here?” I asked. The manager said there were no plans for the space yet, so I immediately suggested a gallery for the collection. He liked the idea, and so it came to be: a showcase for the collection and a place to hold social events for employees and customers. We prepared quarterly shows, one of which was “Recent Acquisitions,” to give visitors a view of how the collection was growing.
The building opened with several major works on view: Beverly Semmes' grand relief sculpture "Six Silvers" and Gregory Amenoff’s magical landscape "Arbor," both illustrated here. In its first year, the conference center had 250,000 visitors. There was no honeymoon period as one might think. I arrived, went through the one-day company orientation, and then straight to my desk. No introductions, no social gathering—just get to work. The head of my group was leaving as I joined, so we chatted at her going-away party, and that was it. I learned quickly that technologists have zero social skills. I wouldn’t call them insensitive, but they all share a grand sense of self and, because they are key to the software empire, no one else is really that important. In many ways,
they are catered to and indulged, showing little respect for others or their work.
A case in point was the completion of our Sol LeWitt wall drawing in that very tough year of 2001. Following a social event at the new cafeteria, the work had been splattered, the concrete floor covered with silly string, and everything needed to be cleaned. I was furious. Though my assistant told me there was nothing we could do, I fired off an email to the new President of the company. My group was not going to pay for this cleaning job, nor would I have my team's work disrespected by this behavior. The bill came to $25,000 and was paid out of the funds of the group responsible for the party. What really came out of that situation was respect for the collection, for me as a professional, and for my team who had worked to make it happen. This was a company where you had to take a position and be tough as nails because you would immediately have detractors and dissenters.
I managed a small team with managers over me, all of whom needed to be in the loop on the work but were mostly unaware of how the art world functioned. Despite being more than 3,000 miles away from its center in New York, I still had to reckon with the art world. Along with the problems at hand was the fact that there
had never been a program statement outlining the goals of the collection, its mission, its practices, and its management.
At Microsoft, I came to understand that I am now an expert in my field, having worked with many artists, organized exhibitions, published articles and reviews, and taught art history. It was at Microsoft that I learned new skills and had to unlearn old habits. Planning and decision-making were key to the success of the program, and “execution” became the watchword of the day. Budget was king; policies and software changed almost overnight as the company grew, expanded, and faced new challenges. Innovation was not frowned upon, and risk-taking was applauded only if that risk had a positive outcome.
The art collection had begun in 1987 at employees' requests to make the work environment more pleasant. By 1999, when I joined the company, the needs for the collection were changing, as was the scale of the collection. A consultant team had been hired two years earlier to assess the situation, concluding that in order to both maintain and grow the collection, the company needed a professional curator in charge. To date, there had been an employee-based art committee, a motley crew of mostly arrogant technocrats with little or no knowledge of art but a desire to spend money where and when they could.
Over time, I was able to correct mistakes, such as the full-frontal female nude photograph, the series of small oils of the Crucifixion, or the portrait of Bill Clinton. Sex, religion, and politics don’t belong in a corporate collection serving a very diverse community of some 50,000 employees and their customers.
At the same time, we began to expand our education program, including monthly tours, Artists’ Talks, and symposiums on collecting. I became known at work as “the art guy.”
Why? Because I introduced guest speakers for these new programs. As new buildings came online on the Redmond campus and other regional campuses wanted art but couldn't compete with the demand, business managers would allocate funds for their buildings based on meetings with “the art guy.” Thus, the overall collection remained consistent, and these internal business arrangements became collaborations. With the success of the conference center’s collection, other groups wanted a similar look
and appeal for their teams and customers.
I arrived that summer, hitting the ground running. With all that was happening, we needed to create a template for what was to be collected, its many purposes, and ultimately, what the collection would be about and give focus to. We decided to focus on emerging and mid-career artists, first and foremost from the Northwest, then other regions in the U.S., and finally, artists from the 60-plus countries where our software is translated. We avoided works containing religious or political imagery. Nudity, as previously noted, was a no-no. We wanted to showcase artists working now in a variety of mediums, including oil paint, carved wood, glass, ceramics, or works on paper.
To keep the employees of the company informed about the collection, we rebuilt an internal website for employees to learn about each work in the collection. We created online exhibitions and published installation views of the collection so that employees in other locations could see what might be on the walls of the Redmond or Mountain View campuses. All part of our education program to keep employees informed about our collecting and ultimately our engagement with contemporary art.
Looking back now, what were the challenges? There was much to be accomplished each fiscal year as the company expanded: setting parameters for the collection, working with the architectural teams on new buildings, the issues of storage and maintenance, and the expansion of the collection to new office sites.
For me personally, it was knowing the market, matching works to locations, and ensuring that money was well spent. Here are a few examples of some purchases then and today's current market values:
Roger Brown: $5,000 / $300,000
Joan Mitchell print diptych: $6,500 / $48,000
John Zurier painting: $3,000 / $22,000
Akio Takamori ceramic sculpture: $3,000 / $25,000
Peter Schuyff painting: $7,000 / $75,000
One employee came to me and said she had been to Atlanta and visited the museum there where she saw a Sol LeWitt wall drawing “like the one in our collection.” She was quite proud that we had an artist who hangs in museums!
Insights into SOUTH FLORIDA'S REAL ESTATE BOOM with Veronica Gorson
By Hillary Latos
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, South Florida's real estate market has undergone significant growth, establishing the region as a sought-after location for both domestic and international buyers. Veronica Gorson, the Managing Director of Development Sales and Marketing at Property Markets Group (PMG), offers a detailed look at the elements driving this growth, the influence
of major corporate relocations to Miami, and the stability of the luxury residential market. Gorson also discusses PMG's current projects and provides her perspective on the opportunities for real estate investment in South Florida. With nearly two decades of experience in the region, Gorson's insights reflect the dynamic and evolving nature of South Florida's real estate market.
IW: The South Florida market has seen significant growth since COVID-19. Do you anticipate this slowing down?
VG: Following COVID-19, the South Florida real estate market experienced rapid growth and appreciation. Now, we are seeing a return to more typical growth levels. Despite this, South Florida's market remains strong due to various factors, including a growing population and its status as a global hub for arts, culture, architecture, and business. Originally, Latin American buyers were predominant, but now there is an increase in European and other international buyers, as well as a significant domestic migration from the Northeast, Midwest, and California.
IW: How have the relocations of major corporate headquarters to Miami impacted the real estate market?
VG: The move of major corporations to Miami has significantly transformed the real estate market, making it a key business destination. Companies like Citadel, Elliott, Blackstone, Carl Icahn, and Goldman Sachs relocating their headquarters has led to increased demand for commercial space and employee housing and created more high-paying jobs. This trend is expected to continue due to South Florida's favorable tax environment, business climate, and overall appeal.
IW: What factors contribute to the resilience of the luxury residential market?
VG: South Florida has become a desirable location for Ultra-High-Net-Worth Individuals (UHNWI) from around the world, who are drawn to the region not only for its tax benefits but also for its quality of life and waterfront living options.
IW: Can you tell us about some of your current projects?
VG: Some of our current projects include:
Waldorf Astoria Residences Miami: This project will be the tallest building south of New York City, offering high-end living with prices starting from $4.42 million.
Sage Intracoastal Residences Fort Lauderdale: A boutique luxury property along Fort Lauderdale’s Intracoastal Waterway, with prices starting from $3 million.
One Twenty Brickell Residences: This development offers luxury residences with deeded office suites, focusing on wellness and social spaces, starting from $800,000.
One Park Sarasota: Positioned above downtown Sarasota, this project offers spacious living areas with views of the city and bay, with prices starting from $3 million.
111 West 57th Street: An architecturally significant building in Manhattan, combining historic Steinway Hall with a new tower, with bespoke interiors.
IW: For investors, what do you see as the biggest upside for investing in these ultra-luxury developments?
VG: With the influx of major corporations, a favorable business environment, and increased wealth, the biggest advantage is the early stages of what appears to be a sustainable high-end market. Historically, high-end properties in Miami have appreciated over time.
IW: What are some of the most exciting aspects of real estate as an alternative investment?
VG: Real estate is a cornerstone of longterm wealth creation and has been a reliable investment historically. In the luxury residential space, the architectural
design and the ability to enjoy the property add value beyond financial returns.
IW: Can you share more about your role at PMG, your background, and what you enjoy most about working in the South Florida market?
VG: I have spent 19 years contributing to South Florida’s real estate market on a global scale, developing sales and marketing strategies for prominent luxury real estate projects. As the Managing Director of Development Sales and Marketing at PMG, I oversee over $4 billion in sales. What I appreciate most about the South Florida market is its dynamic nature and its evolution into a more sophisticated destination. It’s rewarding to be part of its growth and to help future homeowners find an improved quality of life.

LUXURY CAR INVESTMENT
Fractional Ownership Opens
Doors to Everyday Enthusiasts
By Hollie McKay
Forget "keeping up with the Joneses" – the luxury car market is roaring past them, fueled by a global appetite for high-end vehicles.
According to Fortune Business Insights, analysts predict a stunning growth trajectory for this niche sector, with the market size projected to balloon to a staggering USD 2.79 trillion by 2032. This isn't just about flashy rides – it's an investment opportunity. But here's the catch: for the average car enthusiast, this exclusive world of classic Lamborghinis and pristine Ferraris remains frustratingly out of reach.
Until now.
Enter MCQ Markets, a company with a business model its management/founders believe to be visionary, led by the talented Curt Hopkins. MCQ Markets, also known as McQueen, isn't just about luxury cars; it's about shattering the glass ceiling that's kept everyday enthusiasts out of this high-octane investment arena. With a groundbreaking approach, MCQ Markets is building an inclusive platform, opening the doors to a world once reserved for the privileged few. Through their investment model, MCQ Markets is putting the power (and the potential for high returns) in the hands of a new generation of gearheads.
"It's an incredible cross-play between starting one of the biggest super communities in the world of luxury investment, but also creating a platform where normal people can invest in luxury goods – goods that would normally be out of reach for most folks," MCQ Markets CEO Curt Hopkins told Impact Wealth Magazine. "And that is the power of financial technology."
At the heart of everything Curt and MCQ Markets stand for is making this onceclosed-off arena accessible—a process the company refers to as "democratization."
By wrenching open the entry point for investing, MCQ Markets injects fresh fuel into the luxury car market. This broader participation creates a more dynamic and inclusive landscape, shaking up the old guard. Forget the days when luxury car investment was a billionaire's playground.
"The U.S. market trades over $200 billion daily, with a significant portion from retail
investors. So, we are opening access to this market by allowing car enthusiasts to become collectors," Curt enthused. "Traditionally, luxury car investment requires hundreds of thousands of dollars. Now, with fractional ownership, you can invest as little as $500 and own a piece of some incredible cars."
In particular, one of MCQ Markets most exciting initiatives is their plans to offer fractionalized ownership of an initial fleet of cars, including a 1986 Lamborghini Countach 5000QV, a 2012 Lexus LFA (one of only 500 manufactured) and an Ultra-low mileage 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi. This fractionalized investment platform is expected to be live by Q4 of 2024. And here's the beauty of MCQ Markets’ model: it lets multiple individuals co-own a slice of automotive history. This shared ownership structure offers a win-win.
Collectors can diversify their portfolios and pay handsome returns without needing a fortune upfront. Traditionally, the luxury asset market has been a velvet rope affair. Owning a piece of automotive art came with a hefty price tag, not to mention the logistical headaches of storage, maintenance, and authentication. MCQ Markets dismantles this barrier with fractional ownership. By investing in portions of these coveted cars, the market becomes significantly more accessible.
The result? A broader audience of passionate car enthusiasts can finally join the game. Fractional shares make it possible to own a piece of a masterpiece – a classic car legend – at a fraction of the total cost. This expands the investor pool and allows for portfolio diversification, potentially leading to better returns and reduced risk. MCQ Markets
Despite inflation and rising costs, a lot of discretionary investment cash is still available. People are looking for investments that appreciate over time, like tangible assets they can own.
doesn't just offer luxury cars; they offer a chance to rewrite the investment rulebook. "We're also going to be able to do restoration projects on amazing vehicles, too," Curt continued. "There are just so many good things that we're able to do that can bring a level of enjoyment and joy to people. And bringing that joy to a wider audience is something that I find motivating."
For Curt, a Chicago native now based in London – who previously served as the founding CEO of Zefiro Methane, held senior executive positions at Vodafone and Nortel and was later CEO of two leading tech firms, Redeem and Telenomics – MCQ Markets provides a unique opportunity to engage with new and diverse audiences, which includes working closely with the company's 21-year-old Co-Founder & Chief of Cars Lachlan DeFrancesco, a retired go-kart world champion.
Under Curt and Lachlan's leadership, MCQ Markets' strategy focuses on investing in cars with enduring value, ensuring long-term stability for its investors. Another prominent component of the company's democratization model is making the actual investment process more diverse and attainable. The MCQ Markets team has thus created a secure
platform using blockchain technology and SEC regulations for
safe transactions.
Curt highlighted that they are launching a traditional share-based system, where people can buy shares through their website, essentially participating in a car's "IPO." This is fractional ownership in action. As it stands, MCQ Markets’ offering is already qualified by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), ensuring a safe and secure process for all investors.
"Despite inflation and rising costs, a lot of discretionary investment cash is still available. People are looking for investments that appreciate over time, like tangible assets they can own," Curt pointed out. "This makes fractional ownership of luxury cars appealing. The luxury car market is a growing $30 billion industry with potential for value appreciation, especially for well-positioned electric cars. Overall, this offers a potential for steady returns on a real asset class."
From his perspective, one of the most interesting aspects will be what happens to asset prices now that MCQ Markets is opening these assets to individuals outside the typical circle of high-net-worth collectors. By making luxury cars accessible, Curt and his team empower everyone, from aspiring collectors to the general public. The question remains: How will this affect asset values and demand? Additionally, will new models emerge that offer even more ways to experience these cars and the lifestyle they represent?
Only time will tell.
Moreover, MCQ Markets, less than a year old, is already on the fast track to going public. They're currently in discussions with well-heeled shareholders and investors, intending to hit the open markets within the next two quarters. Beyond that, MCQ Markets is opening a warehouse in the
chic Miami district of Wynwood, the new mecca of all things tech and crypto, where enthusiasts can come by and see the vehicles they have invested in – and, on occasion, meet some racing superstars who have also climbed aboard the MCQ Markets fleet.
The company has already captured the attention of the high-profile car-racing community. Its partners and investors include the iconic Andretti family, several Indy and F1 drivers, entrepreneur Justin Waller, and reality TV stars, the Diesel Brothers.
But what is so special about MCQ Markets is that it has removed the intimidation factor from the investing equation— and Curt has a few words of wisdom for those just getting started.
"Getting a good price is key to any investment. Ideally, you want to buy low and sell high,"
he asserted. "While that sounds simple, entering the market with a platform with curated assets and knowledgeable experts can be a smart strategy."
Indeed, MCQ Markets has something for everyone – from the muscle maven to the speedy sensation to the elegant art piece. Nonetheless, there is always that special one that captures the eye and doesn't let go.
"I have to say that some of the most recent classic Porsches have been really of interest to me, especially what Singer (a California company famous for its celebration of the Porsche 911) has been doing," Curt added. "They've been doing these special modifications and some brand-new cars, but they do it based on the older body style. That's what I found fascinating.”

By Hillary Latos
Global leaders, billionaires and family office CEO and CIOs converged in Palm Beach at a private country club for the 1640 Society Family Office Wealth Forum limited to 200 people. The Forum was held in Palm Beach with family moguls, billionaires and entrepreneurs flying in from across the globe. Most of the guests own private planes so could easily fly in safely for the Forum. Participation in the network is by invitation only and includes some of the most prominent family members, heirs and high net worth investors from across the globe including Asia, Mid East, Europe & Latin America, as members of its exchange. The 1640 Society annual private meeting is an exclusive invitation-only event that brings together leading family members, family offices, and wealthy leaders from around the globe for a closed door private discussion about issues affecting the global elite and top one percent.
The Forum began Sunday evening at an iconic private 10 acre estate in Palm Beach with Grammy award winning singer Cody Johnson belting out hits until late in the evening while guests mingled over cocktails and dinner. The Forum on Monday had discussions ranging from leading CIO’s comparing asset allocation strategies, a panel with leading CEOs from across the globe, several billionaires including one of the wealthiest families who had flown in from the Middle East alongside several of the wealthiest families from Latin America, business leaders and sports team owners Gary & Amy Green discussed their philanthropy together with the Siegels who started a large foundation after losing a child to an opioid overdose, a leading hotelier discussed the transition of the business to the second and third generation. Stephen Kennedy Smith joined the healthcare panel with several serial entrepreneurs who had sold several healthcare businesses, while the former CEO of T. Rowe Price Todd Ruppert gave a great overview of investments and early stage venture capital. Later in the day geopolitical issues were covered as Ambassador Wos moderated a panel with the former Governor of Virginia. The day ended with a European business tycoon speaking alongside Kimberly Guilfoyle, CEO of American Dream Corporation speaking on launching
a consumer brand while promoting classic American values together with entrepreneur and philanthropist Dan Newlin who felt that his success was largely due to his give back and focus on helping others. RE-ALIGN BUSINESS AND INVESTMENT CONFERENCE
Succeeded in Removing the Barriers
By Dwight Bellafante
Chairman of the NCB Group, Michael LeeChin has touted the benefits of investing in order to build wealth over time. Assuring potential local investors that there was no time to waste, he noted that “the time value of money gained by the right decision today is significant”. He was addressing the recent Re-Align Business and Investment Conference held by Entrepreneurial Partners at the AC Hotel in Kingston under the theme ‘Removing the Barriers’.
In underlining his point, Lee-Chin quoted from the legendary billionaire investor Warren Buffett who noted that “to invest successfully over a lifetime does not require a stratospheric IQ, unusual business insights, or inside information. What’s needed is a sound intellectual framework for making decisions and the ability to keep emotions from corroding that framework.”
Giving a breakdown of the time-line gains on Jamaican money markets, Lee-Chin showed how a J$1 million investment would deliver exponential returns from 10 to 40 years at an interest rate of 11.40 per cent. For 10 years the investment would yield $2,943,418; 20 years, $8,663,708; 30 years, $25,500,913; and in 40 years,75,059,840. “Total rate of return over a long period of time makes an exponential difference,” Lee-Chin noted, citing Albert Einstein’s pronouncement that “compound interest is the 8th wonder of the world”.
The billionaire banker who successfully leveraged Canadian wealth management and mutual fund company AIC from less than Can. $1 million in assets when he purchased it in 1987, to achieve over Can. $10 billion by 2002, gave the assembled large and SME businesspersons, professionals and top business students from the Jose Marti High School key pointers on achieving wealth, while urging prospective investors to live by the three Ps, Predict, Plan and Persevere.
He revealed his three-step formula for success which included: “Securing access, most often through education; develop and stick to a sound intellectual framework that is absolute, not relative; and control your emotions. Be disciplined” He further recommended Warren Buffett’s advice to “identify a role model, get the recipe and, follow the recipe faithfully,” noting that too many businesses were becoming commoditized and that led to stagnation.
In his presentation to the gathering, Founder and Chairman of Entrepreneurial Partners, Garfield Daley addressed the role of his company in facilitating the development of Micro, Small and Medium (MSME) scale entities which were often hobbled by a lack of managerial skills and good governance practices, although many Jamaican’s had been “bitten by the entrepreneurial bug” which was positive. He highlighted Jamaica’s history of producing innovative entrepreneurs in industry, finance and other sectors, noting that at various stages Jamaica had led the Caribbean Region in these areas.
“Jamaica had the largest insurance company in the region, Mutual Life, we produced Desnoes and Geddes and a world class brand, Red Stripe Beer, Life of Jamaica (LOJ) driven by Danny Williams and many others. We produced Michael Lee-Chin, the first black billionaire in Canada, and Chairman of the NCB Group and Jamaica at one point Jamaica had the leading stock exchange in the world headed by Dr. Marlene Street Forrest. We need to rekindle these big ideas and through our quest towards the re-alignment of businesses we are assisting companies to scale up and to take advantage of the $750 million available today through the Jamaican Stock Exchange and other sources,” Daley noted.
