February 2: Middlefield Celebrate Groundhog Day with a Storytime, Lyman Orchards Apple Barrel, 32 Reeds Gap Rd. Middlefield. Join Miss Vicki and Miss Pam from Levi E. Coe Library as they share stories inside the Apple Barrel. Enjoy indoor family fun at Lyman Orchards. Lunch available for purchase from the Apple Barrel. Reservations are not required. 3:30pm & 4pm. Free February 5: Middlefield Family Race, Powder Ridge Mountain, 99 Powder Hill Rd., Middlefield, join the Powder Ridge Alpine Race Team for a family fun race. On-site registration in the Training Center is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and racing begins at noon. All are welcome and registration is free with the purchase of a park pass. Never raced before? Instructors will be available to help you give it a try. Begins at noon February 5: Washington Library Love, Gunn Memorial Library, 5 Wykeman Rd.,Washington. Celebrate our love for libraries with Valentine’s crafts. There will be lots of pink and red, as well as glitter and lace to make your creations extra special and uniquely personal. All supplies provided. Registration required. 10am – 2pm February 5 - March 5: Wilton Tap-a-Tree Maple Sugaring Program Ambler Farm, 257 Hurlbutt St..Wilton. Learn the science and history of maple syrup by being a hands-on part of the process. There will be two informational sessions offered; only ONE session is required. On that day, you will choose a tree and hang your sap collection bucket. You will be sent regular updates on the sap progress, so you know when to collect it. The sap is boiled down in our sugar shack and each family receives their very own bottle of Ambler Farm maple syrup. The season runs from early February to mid-March. A typical season is five weeks long. $70, members $65 February 5: Wilton Kids! Scherenschnitte Valentine’s Day Card Making, Wilton Historical Society, 224 Danbury Rd.,Wilton. According to Quiet Valley Historical Farm in Stroudsburg, PA, “Scherenschnitte (pronounced something like Sharon-Sh-knit-a) is the German and Pennsylvania German tradition of cutting paper. Traditionally, these paper designs were done by folding the paper and cutting to make a continuous design similar to the childhood craft of creating paper snowflakes or paper dolls that hold hands.” The Wilton Historical will be offering a Valentine’s Day card-making program for kids, featuring scherenschnitte and its popular hearts and flowers motifs. Kids will make their own Valentine cards and heart-shaped sugar cookies with a scherenschnitte-inspired decoration. 11am – noon, $15 February 5 - 6: Bridgeport “Rapunzel”, Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 263 Golden Hill Street, Bridgeport. A new “twist” on the classic tale about the girl with the long golden hair. When the young Rapunzel has been locked in a tower by a wicked enchantress, it takes a handsome young hero to help her escape, and that’s just the beginning of the story! Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair. Sat. & Sun. noon & 2:30 p.m. Jan. 15, noon only. $25 February 11 - 13: Salisbury 96th Annual Jumpfest Festival – Eastern States Ski Jumping Championship 80 Indian Cave Road (off Rte. ) Salisbury. Jumpfest will be back again for the 96th year at Satre Hill in Salisbury with a roster of exciting talented ski jumpers. The Satre Ski Hill is the site of the oldest ski jumping program in the nation, built in 1926. There is a fee for some events and some are free. February 11 - 12: Waterbury “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical”, Palace Theater, 100 East Main St.Waterbury. She was a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn’t know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed. With a score featuring more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits including “Love to Love You Baby,” “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff,” this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation. Musical takes us through Donna Summer’s tumultuous life, tempestuous loves, and mega-watt musical hits. Spend the night in her electrifying universe. Fri. 8 p.m., Sat. 2 p.m. & 8 p.m, $49-$89. February 12: Middlefield Downhill Grip & Slip Competition, Powder Ridge Mountain, 99 Powder Hill Rd., Middlefield. This is extreme downhill mountain biking on snow! This contest is free to enter, all you need is a Lift Pass or Season Pass and you’re in. Divisions men’s, women’s, boys and girls, with great prizes. The course is gated and all runs will be timed. Your bike needs brakes and all riders must wear helmets. Begins at 9am. February 12 - 13: Norwalk Seal Spotting & Birding Cruises, 10 North Water St, Norwalk, Cruise out for the chance to see some of the seals and waterfowl that spend their winters in Long Island Sound. R/V Spirit of the Sound has a climate controlled cabin but, because the best viewing is outside on the deck, participants should bring plenty of warm clothes. Advance reservations are recommended. $34 February 13: Canton Love our Animals, Roaring Brook Nature Center, 70 Gracy Rd., Canton, Celebrate Valentine’s week with the wonderful animals. Make special Valentineds for the animals and loved ones. Special visits with the animals throughout the day. Crafts and animal visits free with admission to the Nature Center. Masks required inside the building. 1pm – 4pm February 15 - March 2: Hartford Winter STEM in a Box – Celebrating Black History, Connecticut Science Center, 250 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford. Bring the fun of going to the Connecticut Science Center home with you. STEM in a Box is a do-it-yourself at-home program with all the materials provided. Virtual sessions with Connecticut Science Center STEM Educators will take place on specific days February 15-March 2. More information on the virtual sessions will be sent once registration for the box is complete. Non- members $120, corporate rewards employees $110, members $95. February 17: South Windsor Performance Lecture Series: Aesop’s Fables, Wood Memorial Library, 783 Main St. South Windsor, Aesop’s Fables is a 45-minute whirlwind adventure through the beloved 2600–year old tales. Bright Star’s professional actors bring to life the stories of The Tortoise and the Hare, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Fox and the Grapes, The Lion and the Mouse, and The Monkey and Her Pail. Brimming with audience participation and character education, this production celebrates the moral lessons available in each of these charming tales. This hilarious play is guaranteed to leave audiences of all ages rolling in the aisles with delight! Bright Star Touring Theatre is a national professional touring theatre company based in Asheville, NC. 10 a.m.-10:45 a.m., FREE February 26 - 27: Norfolk 3rd Annual Winter Weekend in Norfolk, Main Street, Norfolk, Norfolk’s annual Winter Weekend highlights the town’s winter beauty during two days of fun and activities for all, both indoors and outside. Enjoy food, live music, art shows, and films, curling and skating, hiking (on feet, snowshoes, or skis), stained glass window tours, kids’ activities, a bonfire, and more during those two days. February 26 - 27: Middlefield 2022 Special Olympics Winter Games, Powder Ridge Mountain Park, 99 Powder Hill Rd. Middlefield. Powder Ridge is proud to host Special Olympics Connecticut 2022 Winter Games. Come cheer on the athletes of all abilities from across the state. Events are free and open to the public.
