January 1-2: Meridan Festival of Silver Lights, Hubbard Park, 1000 West Main St. Meriden. Illumination of more than 350,000 twinkling, white lights. There are over 200 figures and buildings that are decorated with the lights in this spectacular display. Dusk to dawn, FREE

January 1-2: Fairfield Holiday Express Train Show, Fairfield Museum and History Center, 370 Beach Rd. Fairfield. The Museum is transformed into a winter wonderland, with antique model trains traveling through villages, mountainsides, and snowy fields. Holiday gifts are for sale in the gift shop, and fun, family workshops take place throughout the month of December. Mon.-Thur. 10 a.m.1 p.m., Fri.-Sun. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Dec. 26-30 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Closed Christmas Day & New Year’s Day. Free with regular museum admission.

January 1: Mystic Holiday Magic, Mystic Seaport Museum, 75 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic, The presents are unwrapped, and the kids are home for a week! It’s time to relax and soak up the last of the holiday season. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

One of the largest holiday light display in southern New England begins with over a half-million lights will decorate the Olde Mystic Village square of shops and restaurants for families and holiday enthusiasts to enjoy. 5pm – 10pm, FREE

This family-friendly exhibit, created by train artist Steve Cryan, features more trains, new scenery, and lots of surprises to be found in the fully operational 26-foot model train layout. Visitors can also challenge themselves with the I-SPY scavenger hunt for objects hidden with the displays and throughout the exhibit gallery. Smaller visitors set can get hands-on at an American Flyer and Lionel Train layout designed for toddler size viewing. The exhibit is a true locomotive extravaganza and a perfect outing for train fans and all who are young at heart. Tue.-Sun. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission

Grab your Mickey ears and get ready for the ultimate party when Disney On Ice presents Let’s Celebrate skates into your hometown with more than 50 unforgettable Disney characters.
