Boat Tour: Submarines, Battlefields and Betrayers. The Military on the Thames. City Pier, Thames River Heritage Park, City Pier-New London, New London. July 4th Reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Steps of HoytBarnum. Stamford History Center, 1508 High Ridge Rd., Stamford. SHC’s Rick Petersen will once again recreate the atmosphere of 1776 Stamford in proclaiming the words of the Declaration from the steps of Stamford’s oldest dwelling, the Hoyt-Barnum House! He is also accompanied by Frederick Douglas and Elizabeth Cady-Stanton to give their history-making speeches. Kick off your 4th of July in the proper spirit! 10am – 12pm FREE

Litchfield Hills Triathlon, Brodie Park, 580 West Hill Road New Hartford. Start with a 1500m swim in the crystal clear waters of famous West Hill Lake, among the cleanest fresh water lakes in Connecticut, followed by a 40K bike course with stunning mountain vistas and finish with a 10K run on rural back roads. 7th Annual NICE Festival, Oyster Shell Park, North Water St. Norwalk. The NICE Festival Series celebrates the rich global heritage and culture so evident in the music, food, art, and talent of which we in Norwalk are so proud. The festival host dancers, musicians, food, and craft vendors from multiple traditions and customs, and encourage the community to spend the day together. 11 a.m.-10 p.m. FREE
